(I was a student at this school)This school was fun and their teaching is very good, and they had a lot of fun activites, and a lot of them included the childs family, but the students are racist and the teachers dont seem to care they dont really do anything about the racist comments or bulling, also they did not treat my brother well, and labled him as "Artistic" but as soon as he went to another school he was acing all his classes and getting honor roll,so overall i would say this school is okay.

I have two children currently enrolled at Baker Montessori, one in 3rd grade and another in Kindergarten.
Although the principal recently changed in June 2022, during our past 4 years at Wilson, now renamed Baker Montessori, the teachers and staff have been so constructive, insightful, and dedicated to their craft. The Montessori philosophy is woven into the culture. Children are encouraged to develop natural social skills along their academic path and work plans leading to curiosity and a focus on academic progress, not perfection.
During the pandemic, our kids were underserved and now throughout the recovery the school administration, teachers, and staff have been working to offer tutorials and new enrichment programs, and meet the vast and various needs of the community.

I'm a current student of Baker (formerly known as Wilson) Montessori. I've attended this school since kindergarten and experienced many changes of atmosphere, teachers, forms of material, and friends, so I hope this review satisfies to the current standard of learning and environment. Teachers at our school are for the most part, very kind and helping. Though, with the amount of students per class room its quite hard to get attention and stay near older students who can help with school work and etc. In my experience I haven't had many experiences with learning troubles and needed help so for many students their experience may differ as heard from my classmates but I have had a pleasant experience overall. In the more social sort of our school, discrimination, and bullying is to a brim, and honestly exaggerated, most occurrences are kept too the party of people in them which causes all sorts of ongoing "drama" which only gets wore over time unless forgotten. Speaking of that, the times I've had such no sorts of adults had any knowledge of the matter. All and all my stay at our school has been full of memories, and pleasant experiences, with just the right amount of troubles to keep it a pleasant time.

I was, I think, the third class to graduate from here start to finish (I did pre-k 4 to 8th) and I had a phenomenal experience. All of my teachers were great, some of them being the best I've ever had. The school really let me go at my own pace and had a great balance between work and play. Being in the same classroom for 3 years at a time really allowed me to develop a tight-knit community with my classmates, which led to a very supportive, fun environment, free of bullying.

Also, reading some of the comments, I saw people complaining about having issues getting their credits counted. I never experienced this. I got credit for Spanish 1 from Wilson and I was also able to graduate 2 levels above in math, receiving credit for both algebra and geometry. In fact, the ability to get a jump-start on high school is one of the things I liked most about Wilson.

Times have obviously changed at the school since I was there (~6 years ago), but, at least from my experience, I would recommend the school to anyone, especially people who thrive on more freedom and flexibility.

My son has been in this school since pre K, now in middle school. Grown to be an outstanding and excellent person with good conduct and integrity. Soaring to greatness academically and socially. The students, the teachers and staff are very thoughtful and accommodating. A place that feels like a second home to him.No discrimination in gender, race, ethnicity, financial background etc. An excellent school to be in. I couldn't be happier. My son is very comfortable in this school. BRAVO WILSON!!!!

I wanted so much to love this school, but after a few months, I'm already considering pulling my son out. The front office can seem uninspired, and attendance/tardiness is super strict, to where I feel we can't stay home when we are sick. My main complaint, however, is their expectations in the classroom. "Correct" behavior is defined fairly narrowly, meaning they want you to fit a mold. There is not much room for error outside of this, at least in the classroom my child is participating in. Again, lovely from the outside, not so great under the surface. Really depends on your teacher, too!

This is not true montessori. There is only one teacher per classroom, hardly any work gets completed, and there is constant testing. We tried multiple teachers and the results were the same. Nothing was being taught. You're expected as a parent to do it all at home. And the bullying. Every boy was a bully in Lower El. and the teachers can't do anything about it because it's public school. There's little oversight on the teachers and they can fail at teaching your child with no recourse. The positives at the school are the emphasis on equality and acceptance, but that is mostly driven by the PTA parents, who are what hold this school together.

The principal is terrible. She is the worst person and leader I have ever met. Ineffective and she bullies good teachers.

The new principal is terrible. She has no understanding of Montessori and enables entitled parents to bully teachers and others parents and children.

The had extremely poor leadership. Teachers were incapable of understanding the needs of Pre-k students or how to handle them. My kid was in Pre-k and I had bad experience with the faculty and the principal(I heard that she retired last year)

Wilson has had many issues this year including the principal and teachers not being very responsive to parent concerns and the principal not supporting the teachers very much. Bullying also seems to be a continuing issue in some classes along with lax disciplinary efforts for problem students. We know of a few students who have left the school, because of these issues.

overall seems to be a pretty good school however bullying is a problem in lower elementary also. i agree that there has been no long term solution and had i not made this a topic for discussion nothing would have been done at all.

I was a student at Wilson from Kindergarten through 8th grade. I believe that Montessori is a great program, and Wilson is a great school up through 3rd grade. However, Wilson has a huge bullying problem in their upper elementary levels, which is 4th-6th grades. I was bullied and sexually harassed at Wilson in upper elementary, and teachers knew about it but made no effort to stop it. Even after reporting it, the students who bullied me were given no punishment. The teachers and administration at this school are incapable of handling bullying and misconduct. The principal makes no effort to actually solve problems, only on keeping people happy for the short-term.
I was also here for middle school. The program is great, my only problem is that I was never awarded credits for the Spanish class I took. None of the students that took a language were, and apparently nobody in the graduating classes before us were given credits for their language classes either. The principal never made an effort to solve this problem, even after calling and emailing several times.
Overall, Wilson provides a good education and has good early childhood, lower elementary, and middle school programs. But the unchecked bullying and incompetent administration left me with a bad experience. I have still never been given an apology or even an acknowledgement for what has happened to me at this school.

My daughter is in the first class to go from Kindergarten through eighth grade at Wilson. Her teachers have been excellent, particularly her Kindergarten, 4-6th grade, and middle school teachers - strict while encouraging, caring and fun. Montessori-style education teaches time management and self-reliance, it allows older kids to mentor younger ones, and creates a supportive community. It has been great for my child. The school walks the fine line between true Montessori and HISD/state requirements very well. It took awhile for the school to find its balance, but with active parents, a great principal and terrific teachers, I can't recommend it enough.
