Deerwood Elementary is a school where if you are not part of the PTA, a room Mom or the snobby socialites then you are treated as such. The clicks are so bad from teachers to parents to students, again if you are not in a click you are a nobody. The Principal and the Vice Principal are jokes and favor who they like and which parents they like, instead of actually caring and doing what is right. My daughter was bullied by her Kindergarten teacher, instead of taking care of the problem the only solution was to change her class. Instead that teacher gets moved up to a higher grade! Then she was bullied by girls and the Principals didnt do a fair investigation and only asked the students that were accused of bullying. Again the solution was to move class rooms even after she went to her teacher to discuss the problem and was brushed off. Sad excuse of leadership and allowing people to have a voice. Pathetic representation of education and wouldnt recommend this school whatsoever.

My son has been at Deerwood since kindergarten and is now going into 4th grade. We have been treated like family by everyone. It is such a great environment, full of love and support.

The teachers at Deerwood are a special breed of teachers. We are so fortunate. They truly care about these kids and are good at the delivery of the curriculum.

The teachers and staff teach and encourage manors, respect, compassion and accountability.

The faculty support each other and so many parents are involved and volunteer. It makes for a strong and enjoyable environment.

Had a small increment in 1st grade. Talked to the teacher about it. She got the other parents involved and it was quickly resolved.

My children went to Deerwood for six years, after having been at Greentree Elementary for six years as well. I compare the two a lot! Deerwood was a wonderful experience, I was very active in the PTA, and was a homeroom parent every year. We had excellent teachers, with one exception, and I feel that my children both received an above-average learning experience. The school does tend to be a little political, for the adults, so just be aware of it and all will be fine. I have no complaints, only accolades.

I don't think I'll ever forget routinely passing by a darkened (all-day, every day) 1st-grade classroom where the students were "resting," (another daily event) i.e. crawling all over the floor, and the teacher was painting her toenails and texting. Not at the same time, of course. . .true story. But I guess when you're an "expert" (per the principal) at Writing Workshop, giving children high marks for neatness (coloring well), which we call "quality," you're allowed a litle more slack?

My children went back to Deerwood after a couple of years in a different state. I really wanted to give the school another chance as we have several friends who are happy with the school. I have to say we were still very disappointed. The TAKS is still the main focus and the teachers we encountered were grouchy. My children were very unhappy, so they now attend a different school.I think it is a shame that the atmosphere in this school is so negative, there are a lot of great kids and a lot of terrific parents, but the staff needs some refreshing.
