RMS provides excellent academics. The teachers are outstanding. Unfortunately, administration cares very little for the experience and needs of students who are well behaved, polite, and responsible; if you have this kind of kid, expect them to be essentially used to try to mitigate disruptive/disrespectful students. All decisions are made with those kids in mind, your kid is just there to serve the terrible ones. They are catered to while the well behaved kids are neglected.

My daughter is an 8th grader this year and has enjoyed her time at RMS. Its a middle school, so there are always going to be your typical middle school social drama regardless of the school, but she is so happy to have attended RMS. I agree with some of the other posters about the wealth of some of the families, but I dont see how thats a bad thing. We are middle class, and my daughter has friends that are from many different backgrounds and (parental) financial statuses. It has not been an issue at all and that is part of life at the end of the day. She has lots of friends and enjoys going to school and seeing them. The academics were challenging but she maintained straight As in all advanced classes while also doing athletics. We have been very happy with Riverwood and would choose it again!

My kids have excelled at Riverwood, both have learning differences and it has been a great experience.

Going to this school was the worst year of my entire life. My sixth grade year was ruined by the student body of the school. If you don't have as much money, athletic ability, or intelligence as the rest of the kids, you feel very left out and bullied. The kids and faculty made me feel stupid and unwanted. Leaving was the best decision I have ever made!

Introverted students are at a distinct disadvantage. Group projects are frequent and heavily weighted. My children have been able to occasionally do a group project alone, but it is unfair to make them do double or triple the work and still have to present to the class.

Our family makes less than 200K per year, so we are "poor." We cannot even get personal responses to emails that we send to administrators. We have an annual fund system that ensures the staff knows who the biggest contributors are. The school assumes that everyone has only one child, no other commitments, and a live-in nanny. That is the only way anyone can keep up with events and activities. The students are children of oil execs, doctors, and airline execs, and anyone with an income below the poverty line is shipped in from other parts of the district to even up the numbers.
The academics are good because the parents demand it, but they expect a standard of living that not everyone can maintain. The students are required to have cell phones for class work and homework, but our children do not have cell phones until at least 8th grade.
Overall, it's a private school atmosphere in a public school, which is not always beneficial.

Riverwood is amazing! I went to RMS 23yrs ago & now my son is a student there. He has been very happy & his teachers are outstanding. A shout-out to Mr. Buck Bankston who is retiring this year.. he has gone above & beyond for all of his band students over the last 41 yrs. THANK YOU, Mr. Bankston!! Also, Mr. Jeremy Miller (TX History), Mr. Daniel Green (Science), and Coach Gregg Kite (RELA).. these gentleman have been a HUGE blessing to my son this year and I cannot thank them enough. I highly recommend RMS as a former student & parent! :)

I personally can not say enough good things about this school! Mr. Joseph is the most caring principal. My child left RMS ready to concur high school and has. My children have been to a couple different Kingwood schools and none compare to RMS. I love this school and feel blessed that my child had the opportunity to attend RMS.
