I have two special needs kids and Brookhaven has gone above and beyond to ensure their IEP and overall needs are being met. The office staff and teachers are super friendly and supportive. I find that they always make the time to listen to your suggestions or concerns. I love seeing the staff and teachers interact with the kids as most of them know them well. Being a volunteer at the school, I am able to see first hand the love the teachers have for their profession. I would definitely recommend this school to other parents.

If I could, I would give this school negative reviews.
Let me start off with I am an employee with KISD and I cannot believe parents are okay with sending their children here. My child was in Pk-4 and was coming home talking about racism and other inappropriate, vulgar language.
The staff here is disgustingly unprofessional. The principal refuses to respond to emails and phone calls. She hires incompetent staff that do not care about children. Since safety is everyones number one concern, we have witnessed abuse once from a teacher throwing a student in the cafeteria and then a few weeks later receiving a phone call that his teacher (the same one) hit him. Theres multiple parents that have stated that their child has gone without lunch on serval occasions.
If your child will have an IEP either through 504 or SPED you can forget it being followed. As a district employee we were barely able to get their 504 coordinator to follow district requirements on providing proper accommodation tracking. There is also an article in the news in regards to this school and SPED students. My child was written up due to their disability by a teacher that did not know of their BIP for their disability. When the AP called to notify us of the referral, the AP did not even know our child was under section 504. The principal has stated to us, via phone since shes too afraid to write anything, that some kids just fall through the cracks. Our child was removed from the classroom for over 4hrs at a time for multiple days without notifying either of us and infringed upon his unalienable rights according to FAPE and IDEA.
We have followed appropriate chain of command and have gotten district officials involved with our grievances, but have not received any follow up and we are currently contemplating legal actions. We were unwilling to have our child continue to loose his love of learning any longer and have pulled him out of this poor excuse of a school. He was unable to complete even one year at this institution. If you are unfortunately zoned for this school, please do your child a favor and apply for a transfer as fast as possible. Please, please, avoid at all costs.
The ONLY good thing about this school is the YMCA after school care which is not on KISD payroll. They have a wonderful care provider at the campus and she is the sole reason why we have stuck around for so long.

My child has always been advanced in math and reading. In 3rd grade, she tested at a 4.9 level. This last year, we had the worst teacher and tried several times to have her transferred to another class but they refused to move her. Just got her test scores and she failed every single subject and even tested at a much lower than she did in previous years. This could have been prevented had the principal listened to our concerns. An advanced child not only failing but also performing at a much lower than in previous years is UNACCEPTABLE.

My daughter is a sweet non verbal autistic toddler. Her teacher abused her physically and sexually from day 1. I reported it to the vice principal and nothing happened. She didn't even bother to inform the principal. We had to do it and still nothing happened.

After reading the reviews from 2 + years ago I can positively say this school has come leaps and bounds in a better direction. My son is only in Pre-k, Whenever we walk home all the teachers and students say hi to him. This tells me the school is very aware of it's students and encourages students to be positive towards each other. I love that the parents picking up pre-k (and I believe kindergarten as well) Students need to walk through the office to pick up their children(and the teachers are always smiling). This makes me feel like my child is safe here because the staff becomes familiar with the people picking up children everyday. I feel like my child is very safe at this school, parents and guardians are not allowed in the school during learning hours which means people with "bad intentions" will not be coming in. Anytime something happens in the school, ( smoke from a heater, blown transformer, etc) I am immediately contacted by phone, email, and a letter in my son's backpack. Considering the neighborhood this school is located in, They are very well organized and professional. My son loves going to school everyday and that alone makes me love this school.

My grandson attended this school from Pre-K thru 2nd grade. I was amazed with the quality of teachers who provided a positive learning environment. The Principal is awesome!

Brookhaven is a nice school. They seem to care about the students. The students seem to like it. My only negative comment would be that I dont like how they dismiss the students because theyre running all over the place and dont stay with the teacher. Other than that its a great school.

To most of the posters on this page: your arguments seem a lot more solid when you spell correctly and use proper grammar. Otherwise, you just look ignorant.
