i was a former student at this school when i lived here. i am far past the grade that i was when i was here but i feel as if its important to let people know what i experienced when i was here.
my years here were my 2nd and 3rd grade years, 2015-2017. this school was miserable. it starts way too early and ends way too late, i recall waking up at 5am on some days just so my mom was able to get ready to leave on time.
not to mention my experience with counselors. i experience major depressive disorder, and as a child, it was very evident. my counselor did not care. i told her these things when she had kept me in her office for hours and pressed on me to admit, and then proceeded to kick me out of the school because i was a danger to others and could spread my sadness. these teachers didn’t care for your student, and they probably still don’t.
they restrict learning if you’re in second grade and under. you’re not allowed to go to specific sections of the library, and you get in trouble if you do. you get in trouble for *reading* if you read at a higher level then normal.
this school also facilitates bullying. luckily, i wasn’t, but the teachers wouldn’t care if you were. no one cares about anything here, they just want your paycheck.
the only redeeming thing i have to say is that the specials were kind of fun and i had good friends. that’s it.

The administration at Mountain View Elementary School is fantastic. The teachers are just as amazing and go above and beyond for their students. Communication with our students teachers is phenomenal. Our boys have thrived at this school and love learning because of the environment they’re surrounded by. The school counselors are incredibly warm and welcoming, and add that extra support when keeping military children in mind and the issues they face.

Gifted kids are used to teach other children. Child labor laws are in place for a reason. The guidance counselors criticize parents; teachers patronize parents; and administrators use name calling and extensive social harassment towards parents if they do not win a discussion about the child's welfare. Go to another school.

Their best policy is minimal homework for most students. Unfortunately, the gifted program is supposed to be accomplished during the school day, but teachers required work at home.

As a volunteer, I would walk down the hall and listen to teachers yelling at kids in many grades, ranging from preschool up. Children were permitted to run around in the parking lot unsupervised and denied water at the water fountain. Teachers are hostile to parents who have concerns. Children learned very little during the year. It more of a daycare in the younger grades.

Administrators criticize and use name-calling to parents waiting in the lobby. Guidance counselors are more concerned with monitoring parents than actually solving problems with the children and are very sneaky about counseling children - even without permission. Be on your guard!

Bullying is present. Administration will address the issue if you force it, but they will patronize you in the process.

Fantastic school. The grounds are kept beautifully, the people who work there are compassionate and care about their student’s progress. There’s more focus on each individual child and their needs verses just getting high scores on a standardized test.

My 4 year old son was constantly telling me how his pre school teacher was mean and was sad all the time when he knew the next day was going to be school. The teacher was awful.

After speaking with the principle about maybe having my son moved classes I was told they could not do that and my son should wait it out. After I had already given it a months time of my son constantly complaining about his teacher. And then letting the principal know the issues my son was having and that we had already waited long enough.

A zero. If you don't want to be a teacher for young kids then don't. It's not a pay check. these kids are people's kids who send them to school to learn and be cared for with love and compassion. I will never recommend this school. And now my son is scared to enter into kindergarten because of what has happened as this school. He should love going to school not act in fear or sadness when going to school. Also lots of curriculum was pushed on PRE SCHOOLERS. Things they shouldn't be expected to learn while they are PRE SCHOOLERS. If anything it just stresses them out and makes them fear learning. I shouldn't even have to make these points to educators about excessively pushing information on toddlers. but that's just another reason why I hated this school.

The teachers and the leadership are friends so any issues you may have are met with this is a very good teacher. The leadership will not be unbiased and separate there friendships to hear the complaint. Teachers approach to bullying is not zero tolerance it’s more like it depends who is doing it. Teachers do not like to be questioned, or to have to explain situations to the parents, the parent is then treated like the problem for showing concern.

The teachers lie, the leadership is not respectful to the parents concerns, and their idea of being respectful as a student is ignore who ever you have an issue with, not correcting it. They have no compassion or understanding for military families issues that affect the children they teach.

Leadership sides with there teachers on everything reguardles of the issue. Talking to them doesn’t change anything they make it known they are friends first. Their approach to parents an teacher issues are very unprofessional and leaves the parent feeling dismissed and the situation unresolved.

My child has speech I had to argue with the vice principal the importance of him having all the letter sounds checked. While talking to the speech teacher the vice principle had an attitude and abruptly ended the meeting because I asked for take homes of what they were doing so I could reinforce their teachings at home. I still haven’t received anything beside the mandatory progress sheet. I still have no clue what they do.

I told my sons teacher he was being harassesed by a little girl her response was “yes, she’s my little perfectionist” ignoring that it was an issue for my child. My son was touched on the bottom and my son got in trouble for forcafuly removing the child’s hand. When I asked if the school had made note of the situation, I was told they can not tell me what happens to another child. And because the parents communication is limited those same children are harassing a number of children.

This school needs cultural diversity within its staff and teachers. The teachers need training in professionalism while dealing with parents of all cultures. The teachers need help understanding early childhood development so they could better address issues with the children in Lower grades, and military background. Some of there teachers need to understand the difference in questions of concern and combative. This is not a bad school they have great programs, but they needs to utilize more take home apps for accademic improvement. My child’s grades dropped in this school, and I was treated like a threat for being concerned and asking what could I do to help, only to find out I wasn’t the only parent with these concerns. If the leadership was more impartial they could help both sides improve grades and parent teacher relations as of now they need work. (My comments are specific to the issues I had with my childs teacher, the 1st grade VP, and the Principal but I was not alone with my concerns.)

It has been a mixed bag. On the one hand, I have had good experiences with my child’s teachers on the other hand, with the teacher change during my child’s second grade year I felt like the administration was happy to have a warm body in the chair for the remainder of the year. I have been absolutely delighted with my child’s 3rd grade teacher. On the other hand, every interaction I have had with the administration of this school has been sub par to say the least. When policies are inacted and/or changed, the parents usually are the last people to know. Unfortunately, our experience at this school has been mediocre. Unfortunately, that is pretty much par for the course for KISD.

They changed homework management last year during the school year and it is hit or miss depending on the teacher/classroom your child is assigned.

At the beginning of my child’s 2nd grade year, she had a wonderful teacher who embraced all her students and was a dynamic personality in the classroom. Over spring break she has to move and was replaced by a teacher who just was par to say the best and her classroom management skills were in a disarray and applied in an inconsistent manner. This year, my daughter has a wonderful 3rd grade teacher who is passionate, intelligent, and really cares about her students and the parent/teacher connection and communication.

The few times I have had any interaction with the administration of this school it has been extremely poor. Having been in the educational setting as an educator and volunteer, I have never encountered so much negativity and lack of professionalism. It is a shame as we did our due diligence looking for a house in this school zone area because of all of the positives and ratings this school has received. However, over the last year, whether it is implementation of policies by KISD and/or teachering staffing issues or administrative issues, my confidence in this school has dropped significantly.

Unfortunately this is not indicative of this school alone, KISD has implemented measures which hand unlicensed counselors and administrators tools they do not effectively know how to use and are untrained to implement. They are knee-jerk reactions which do not get at the root of bullying. There must be a more comprehensive approach to combat bullying.

If you have a child that needs an IEP, don't go here. Just moved here from Germany where my daughter went to a DoD School. She was given an IEP in April. School ended in June. School stated in August at Mountain View. It is now NOV and the school is trying to take my daughters IEP. My's daughter's counselor told us that we are not the only family going through this. SHe said she has at least 8 other kids losing their IEPs. Granted it is throughout the KISD district but that is telling you something if one counselor has that many kids loosing IEPs. Multiply that 8 by the number of children's counselors at Darnell Hospital and that makes a large number of kids loosing their IEPs.

Mountain View Elementary used be a great school, but over the years it has deteriorated to an average. We have some great teachers, but also many great teachers has left to other schools. We had sudden influx of students last year, not sure, but it seems near doubled the student population. Our top GT students are being unchallenged.

Each year school activities gets cancelled. But this year, seems more programs has been cancelled than any other years. I've confirmed following has been cancelled this year: Chess Club, Orchestra, and CML. I've heard from other parents that there are more, but I didn't check them out.

Not sure if it's a funding issue or lack of volunteers, perhaps both. Also, seems the PTA has become a lip service rather than exploring children's potential.

We've been here five years, and still got three more years to go for my youngest. Mountain View Elementary is still a good school, but we are exploring Skiptcha Elementary for next year.

We were at Mt. View for 3 years. During that time, I was personally able to see how hard the administration works and cares about the success of the children. They have many committees in place to talk about and address issues and concerns. The end goal being to implement positive changes for the campus and children.
No school is perfect but when the administration is approached in the right way they will try to work with you to find a positive outcome. The teachers and staff are fun, friendly and great educators. Some of my children’s favorite teachers are teaching at Mt. View. They have opened up doors and windows for my kids and made learning fun.
The PTA works really hard to provide TONS of opportunities for the students and families. They are always looking for parent involvement!
We were very happy at Mt. View and sad that we had to move. I know this school will continue to do great things!!

ALL schools have good and bad teachers. the best thing about MVES is that the staff seems to be well led by the administrative members. I think the principal keeps them on their toes. He's a good one!

It's not too much or too little...I do like the diversity of assignments his teachers send home. When I was in school all I did was write. My son did a video project. That made him excited and he worked a lot on the project.

We've been with Mountain View for 4 years now. The school has caring teachers and professional leadership. Most importantly, I felt my two boys learned at Mountain View. Some schools seem to be there and go through the motions but MV seems to be a live...you can sense it when you walk into the school. At no time is there any drama or a sense that everyone isn't here for the kids. When my older son left the school last year he was genuinely sick over leaving. I really have been pleased with the school.

We have been at Mountain View for 2 years. No school is perfect and Kisd has issues in general but I wouldn't want my kids going to any other school in the area. The teachers are amazing and truly care about children. My kindergartener is reading well beyond her level and we are very happy overall with the school.

After reading the latest reviews I feel that I must respond to April 29. I do not know how in the world that parent can claim that the principal is incompetent. Dr. Podhaski has been nothing short of AMAZING as he kept the school running smoothly through a long and trying year of major renovation construction at Mountain View. Through it all he has remained the calm, caring, nurturing education professional that he has been since coming to MV two years ago. Had the 4/29 comment been made before that I would not be coming to anyone's defense. But the fact is that there is NO principal better than Dr. P.! To incoming parents: Of course everyone has an opinion, but you can rely on those posted by the vast majority that Mountain View remains an excellent school.

This is a great elementary school. The principal is fantastic and the staff is so friendly. The teachers are so creative and you can really see the love for the children at the school. I am so glad we are zoned for this campus!

I love this school and so does my child. Is it perfect? Of course not, but I think it is the best in the area. I feel that the administration cares very much about the students, and the principal is a great leader while also being a warm, consistent role model for the students. The PTA is very involved and has raised funds for new playground equipment this year, and I'm sure much more that I'm not aware of. One thing that I do wish had happened this past year is that my child's teacher had been more involved with parents, handed back more work throughout the year instead of at the end, and had kept an up-to-date internet page where we could find out more information.

This school is a tremendous disappointment. The principal is incompetent and so are the assistant principals. They want you to believe they are on top of things, but in all honesty, very little gets done and students are not a priority. Some teachers work very hard to provide for the students, but without a strong leadership, its a lost cause. Hopefully a new principal will come along who really knows how to run a school effectively.

This is a great school. My son went to pre-k here and is getting ready to start kindergarten and he is very excited. This tells me a lot about how the faculty and staff are. I think all the staff and faculty are friendly and genuinely seem to enjoy teaching the kids. I would not send my son to any other elementary school in the district after experiencing Mountain View.
