Don't send your kids here unless you want them to have a horrible time. Phone policy is horrible, teachers don't care, students are rude and the teachers don't do anything about bullying, the staff and administration is a joke. Genuinely horrid school. There are fights basically everyday, and teachers can't do anything about it. I would sooner send my child to Alcatraz than this school.

La Porte ISD. Lets talk about LP priorities, La Porte ISD. Lets talk about LP priorities $54 million football stadium. but teachers have to beg on Amazon for class supplies. over $1 million a year dumped into LP Sportsnet. But career and technical education has to beg for money from local industry. Zero transparency, and where funds are spent and zero accountability, and where funds disappear to. LP priorities.

La Porte is has a "small town" vibe with a very supportive community. The vast majority of the kids are great kids - the high school provides an opportunity for alternative learning for those who would like to be on their own pace, graduate early, or need extra help on their "sister campus" The Academy of Dewalt. I feel like my daughters 504 plan has always been supportive, and teachers are great about communicating. This year they really seem to be cracking down on phone use during class, which personally I love - I'd rather my children pay attention than worry about where their friends are in that moment. They offer so many programs to the students - something for everyone. I have one child traveling down an Animal Science path, and one child traveling down a Health and Science path - both attending classes specific to those interests, in additon to their "basic" courses. I feel like they're better prepared for college with this plan. Junior year has been by far, one of the most stressful - but overall I think this school has been great, the people are great - I do wish they had a larger cafeteria or one additional lunch period - as the kids really struggle to have time to eat in the time alloted. I'm also hopeful that someday that we can losen up the bathroom rules a bit, but I also know that's not just our school.

I actually attended/graduated from this school and now my eldest son attends.
I'm not sure why the rating for this school is so low because they literally have something for everyone. From every sport you can think of (even water polo & canoeing) to an animal sanctuary to vocational courses, they even have programs in place that can allow your student to graduate w/ a college degree. If your student is falling behind, they offer free after school tutoring.
We've moved a lot and my son has experienced schools rated 9/10 that were HORRIBLE as far as the culture & course availability. Despite the fact that his schedule is more academically challenging, I've never seen him happier or applying himself more. Definitely recommend!

This school spends ton of money on sports. The band has way less resources than the other schools in the area. I want to pursue a career in engineering but the school refuses to supply resources to make the engineering program anywhere near other programs in the area. Clear creek and the schools in baytown are way better. But this school spends money on outrageous basket ball stadium and a useless planetarium. I know many students have tried to talk to the principle about this but he ignored us and avoids us until we give up on trying to get a meeting with him. We even had a student talk to the superintendent with no results.

I am going to go to clear lake next year. This school does not students learning engineering. We spent all last year cleaning out a shop to work in to have the school take it away and give it to AG even though they already have a shop and barn. I spent all this year trying to talk to our principal but he ignored me and will not even set up a time for us to talk.The engineering teacher is to good for this school and should go to a better school. If you want to really learn so you can get a job around here after you graduate to some where else.

This school has its priorities all backwads. They have a huge Basketball stadium that they spent a couple million on a planetarium that they spent a million on. What in my grandsons Automotive class they can not diagnose any vehicles less than decade old they school will not spend money on programs and tools for current vehicles.There are far more jobs for mechanics than basketball players and astronauts. My grandson says all the vocational programs have old tools or no tools to learn from where did my tax money go? That what that ridiculous bond was for. Wasting my tax dollars. They are all show and no go.

I was initially worried about sending my daughter to LPHS due to its lower rating, because I had gone to a 10/10 rated high school in the north houston suburbs, but this school blows that high school out of the water. I don't know why it's rated low, because it has more programs than any school I've seen. They have a brand new pool, a planetarium, a huge animal sanctuary (like a little zoo) where students can learn to care for animals, a full welding shop, a car shop, a culinary school, I'm not kidding you it's incredible!! My daughter loves her high school. The things I love about it is that it's small, so she doesn't get lost in the shuffle. It feels like a neighborhood high where kids walk to school and everyone knows everyone else. I love the theater program and that the seniors get to decorate their parking spots. I also love that there isn't an emphasis on name brand clothes or having a fancy car. Very down to earth kids. Also a good mix of diversity. Much much better than the 10/10 high school I went to which was filled with drugs and too much $.

I have been involved with the high school since last year and I have to say they have a few teachers working hard to make young people better. Mr.Ruley, Mr. Jobson, and Mr.licon are awsome. They really try to help student's be better. The school is moving in the right direction.

I strongly disagree with the person who said the level of education was behind. I attended 2 different high schools after attending La Porte High and was placed in advanced courses in both after leaving just standard level classes for La Porte even the kids in the school would ask me how do you know all this stuff are you some uber nerd? My response was simply I already learned all this 2 years ago. I've seen an unknown number of sports scholarships come from this school and the theater program and the musicals it puts out yearly are the best I have seen or even heard of.
