This school, amongst many other questionable decisions, has decided that for the final two weeks of the school year students will not be allowed to use the restroom during any of their classes. School hours are from 8:50 am to 4:25pm, meaning that for 7.5 hours, over 3000 students may only relieve themselves during their 7 passing periods of 5 minutes. This is inhumane and truly represents the careless direction the district is heading.

Transferring to this district from Southwest High School has been a frustrating experience. From my very first day, I noticed how disorganized things were. During passing periods, the hallways are so crowded that I’ve been elbowed and bumped into multiple times, which makes moving between classes stressful and uncomfortable.

Another issue is that the school seems to prioritize minor rules over more serious concerns. For example, I received two days of lunch detention simply for forgetting my ID at home and having to use a temporary sticker. Situations like this make it feel like the administration focuses more on enforcing small policies than addressing bigger problems that affect students daily.

The school environment itself is also overwhelming. The building is old and poorly maintained, with flickering lights, holes in the walls, and an overall appearance that feels neglected. This creates an uncomfortable atmosphere that makes it harder to focus and feel positive about being there.

Additionally, interactions with administrators have been discouraging. They often come across as rude, frequently blowing whistles without clear reason. Even when walking outside, conditions can be unpleasant, as dirt gets blown into your face, adding to the overall frustration of the school environment.

Overall, my experience in this district has been disappointing due to the lack of organization, poor conditions, and what feels like misplaced priorities.

As a current student here at Medina valley highschool, I came from Earl Warren Highschool last year in February and I truly dislike this school so much, the environment makes me feel overwhelmed and admins can truly for sure be rude. Last year before this whole cell phone law they were already very strict and was a dramatic change from Earl Warren highschool, i feel so out of place here at this school and have begged my mom to unroll me and take me back but I am unable to because my mom doesn't want to make the 12 min drive for me, MY POINT IS if you're student wanting to enroll or wanting to enroll your son/daughter I would highly suggest move your kid into NISD and make an out of district transfer, I do have dyslexia and do need help with things but counselors don't want to help me get extra help or even let me change classes, NISD will help with all of that I would have yearly check ups with all my teachers and parent and would talk about how I'm doing in school but here at MVISD the teachers/admin/counselors could really care less about their students, they pay much more attention to cell phones and ID's. There disciplinary rules are overdramatic and any kid can be sent to DAEP/alternative, you can get DAEP due to attendance or even getting bullied and trying to defend yourself. parents do yourself a favor and do not enroll your kid into this school, save your kid from feeling out of place or feeling overwhelemed in this school in the middle of nowhere

as much as I hates last school year, I would do anything to be back at school with my old friends and in a school knowing I have teachers who care.

On the outside, this school seems to be a very nice rural high school right? Well, on the inside it's a complete and utter mess. Every period, the halls are overcrowded when you're trying to get to class, and almost EVERYDAY AND PERIOD an administrator blows a whistle in a part of the school that echos, effectively deafening anyone near them as basically everyone is trying to get to class. Speaking of halls, one of the halls has a few holes and are a bit sunken with tiles broken, and they've refused to fix them over the summer. Going over special education, it's handled decently but could be way better as a friend of mine is in special education for a very small brain condition that would allow him into the general population. The way this school handles student conflicts is horrible as a female friend of mine suffers sexual harassment nearly everyday, and after bringing up to her counselors and admin, the perpetrator gets ONE DAY OF IN SCHOOL SUSPENSION FOR SEXUAL HARASSMENT. The administration also got rid of 9 periods, which sounds good for everyone, but screws over everyone that wants to take block classes, like automotive, and other electives that would help students with their careers and reverted EXCLUSIVELY FOR ATHLETES. If that isn't favoritism, I don't know what is. Speaking of periods, the school enforced that no one could leave class early, even if your class is located far from the main buildings such as agriculture, the portables or AFJROTC, causing people, like me, to receive tardies that still won't be appealed. Communication with family members is also nearly non-existent as whenever my father tries communicating with transportation, he is put on hold for a considerable amount of time, and when transportation DOES answer, the answer isn't the best and is vague. Safety isn't the best here either, as during the first semester, several fights broke out involving a gun that the school tries to deny. If you don't pack lunch or your family makes "too much money" for you to receive free lunch, you'll be overpaying for frozen, reheated food with the broccoli looking like it came from a toy kitchen set. If you want to look something up on your phone after school, you'll be forced to connect to a mediocre internet service the school provides that still blocks everything. If not, your cell service will be jammed anywhere within the building. The bathrooms also have no mirrors, are filthy, and the soap dispensers are located OUTSIDE the restroom.

If you are a family of color or have a student of color (African American) I would steer clear of this district. This school is not inclusive or diverse. Your child will be one of a handful of black kids whom they all just lump together. Not to mention Castroville gives sun down town to me. I’ve never felt welcomed in this town. I wouldn’t be caught dead in Castroville after dark. The administration and the parents are incredibly rude.
We moved here after a transfer for my job. Yes, the new homes are beautiful and affordable and I was blinded by all of it. I wish I would’ve just rented in a NISD district. My child has begged me every week to get him out of this school! I have tried tirelessly to transfer him out to no avail. Buying a home in this school district is one of the biggest mistakes I have ever made in my life! It keeps me up at night about how terrible a High School experience my child is having at Medina Valley. I’ve considered renting out my home and moving into an apartment is so bad.

I recently transferred to this school from overseas and I've never experienced anything quite like this. The school is so focused on the technological use of students electronics in the hallways they overlook the fact that a lot of their students can't perform basic math and spell basic vocabulary. The admins are rude and have no respect for their students. The school is also discriminatory and shows signs of favoritism. There are a few good teachers scattered throughout the school. But from an insider the school is very disorganized and can cause some of the worst years of your kids life.

My son was transferred to this high school and went there for 2 weeks before I withdrew him. He ended up skipping a class and was accused of doing drugs. I was called and told he was passed out on the floor which he told me he was not. I panicked and sped all the way to the school! He kept telling them to call his mom and denied him that saying we will after we get done with what we're doing. They made him stand on one foot and count backwards from 100. They also searched his things and patted him down and accused him of flushing drugs down the toilet but because they had no proof they couldn't charge him with that. When I got to the school I was told we are pretty sure he's on drugs when all they did was a stand one one foot test and checked his pupils. He told me he fell asleep in the restroom and so that will explain why his eyes looked that way and he also told them the same. I was told he can't come back to school to he gets a drug test done. I too him in to see his doctor for one and they said they cannot conduct a drug test on him. And that I should contact a lawyer which I am working on now! I will also be contacting the news station. If you feel you found a student passed out on the floor the first thing you should do is call for an ambulance not accuse him of being on drugs! This school district is racist. You probably won't see many reviews here but if you check other sites the reviews are there!! If your African American don't send your child here!my son is a good kid and traumatized by this experience! This is not the last you will hear from me

Admin at this school handle things terribly. They are more focused on taking students phones than the bullying and countless harassment going on.

I really regrets to transfer my son to this school. Eventhough is a small school everything is worse than in a big one. Since the first orientation day I saw the lack of organization and poor gestion of the school,we were about two hour and a half in a line to get the ID.The class periods are shortest than usual. You also have to pay for every college test that your son want to take. The lunch is a mess,there is not condition for accommodate so many children. The menu is far from acceptable. If you have another option keep your children away from this school.

I believe all the older bad reviews are unreliable, as I've been going here since 3rd grade and have seen great things from the district. Bullying is effectively taken care of, as the school does not play around. Very strict, which is good, and great curriculum. Teachers and staff care about school, events the school hosts are actually entertaining. Many things have changed over the years, and I can guarantee you will succeed and have a great future. Clean school, couldn't say I've ever gotten sick from the school. Variety in everything, students generally are good, and "special" students are taken care of nicely and provide for them. Good school, would recommend. Just note of the size and strictness.

Horrible school. Stay away at any cost. My daughter, 10 grade student was verbally and physically assaulted in a class by another female student. This happened in the presence of a teacher at the beginning of May, 2014. Vice-principal, Russell, called me and left a voice message saying that it was a verbal conflict and physical contact was not made. On May 28, 2014 my daughter's brand new white BMW 328i was brutally vandalized on school parking lot. Coke, smoothies, ice cream were all over the car. My daughter told the vice-principle that on that day the student who attacked her previously along with her friends were on parking lot and showed my daughter middle finger. Not surprisingly, vice principal informed me next day that school performed investigation and they didn't find anybody who may vandalize my daughter car. Now my daughter suffers from severe case of anxiety.

I think MV is a great school with high calibre teachers and high expectations of the students. Success is expected and achieved.
