The principal, teachers and staff did not care that my daughter was being bullied. I thought schools had a no bullying policy. My daughter was bullied by the same group of girls for 2 years, from first to third grade. Numerous talks to the principal and teachers were the same. "We have talked to the students." And...that's it? These girls had their friends and a boy corner her in the playground and were pushing her, pulling her hair and calling her names. My daughter finally stood up for herself and she is the one that gets in trouble? After two years and numerous reports my daughter was the only one reprimanded. Her teacher even told her she was the bully, which infuriated me. I withdrew her immediately after that incident and have home schooled her since. This is appalling and unacceptable.

I live in the neighborhood. Both my grown children attended Coker Elementary and now my three grandchildren are there. Coker is a fantastic school with exceptional teachers and staff. The new principal (couple of years now) is amazing. She has made wonderful improvements to one of the oldest schools in the district. The feeder schools of Bradley MS and Churchill HS are also great. No complaints from this former parent and now grandparent.

I hand selected this school for my son. I have been a NEISD parent for 8 years. I could of selected different preferred dual language campuses, but chose Coker for various reasons. Other campuses may be newer, have better technology, and have more resources, but what makes Coker special is the community (parents, staff, teachers). Coker is one of the oldest Elementary schools around. Full disclosure- Ive been an educator for 20 years. My opinion should mean something for people wondering if this is a good school. The faculty at Coker is excellent!

This school has been nothing but great in our experience ever since weve enrolled our son since Kinder. He is now in 4th grade. Each year has proven their attention to academics as high focus. The GT program and HAM program teaches on such a high skill level as well, that its great and comforting to know that the children are getting quality attention and education. This school is very highly recommended!

I really appreciate the dual language program at this school. It is a great opportunity for kids to learn Spanish.

Kids at this school get 15-20 minutes of recess per day, regardless of grade level. They will keep the kids inside if it rained earlier in the day, if it's a little chilly outside, or if they want to punish children.

My kids had about 50/50 odds of getting a wonderful teacher, or a teacher who yelled at and punished kids all the time.

The school fought us on getting an IEP and it was very challenging to get teachers to follow through on the accommodations written in the IEP. If your kiddo is neurodiverse or BIPOC, do not expect to get good support here from admin or teachers.

All in all the school environment is to have a successful child...all teachers and staff deeply care for the children and will work endlessly with the parent to provide the best education possible

We love Coker Elementary! We love the teachers and administration. Parents have a lot of opportunities to volunteer as well.

With the exception of a kindergarten teacher who has since retired, all the teachers my w kids have had have been kind, yet effective.

The school houses the dual language program for the cluster. There are a lot of opportunities for children to interact with children whose primary language is not English. There are also many activities for children to help and volunteer at the school along with their parents through PTA. Volunteering at the school or participating in programs gives them a sense of ownership and pride in their school, further developing a sense of community.

We have had a high rate of turnover in principals. The current one has been there only 1 year. The 2018-2019 school year was very good under her leadership. She has brought fun activities and seems to be respected by the teachers. I didnt rate this category 5 stars because shes only been there 1 year so the jury is still out. I hope her trend continues.

I have not had any experiences with bullying in the school. Im sure it exists, but if so, it must be dealt with promptly.

Teachers give homework packets at the beginning of the week. Assignments can be completed in approximately 20 minutes a day. This has helped teach my kids discipline to sit and complete their assignments and learn responsibility for remembering to turn homework packets in on Friday. My two kids dont have to be told to do their homework. They know the routine and take ownership. However, receiving the entire packet at the beginning of the week gives us flexibility to double up on homework a five day if we have another event scheduled.

I can't say I've heard of a bullying incident but feel they are open and honest about the topic which, in my opinion, helps prevent the situation. Kids at this age are developing their personalities and I like that they confront issues head on.

I have dabbled with the idea of charter schools or private schools but always said that as long as Coker is doing a good job for my kids, I'm not going to assume somewhere else is better just because it's trendy. I've had a great experience so far.

In my experience, the homework has not been too overwhelming but at the same time helps the kiddos establish discipline and routines. Granted there are times I wish they didn't have it but for my own sake.

One of our children has special learning needs, and the school has been wonderful in providing the right accommodation, extra care and flexibility. As a result, our child is progressing at pace or faster than more typical peers.

The school has been recently renovated, and is now an even better and more resourceful place for our kids to learn. We have two students enrolled and have been very happy with the level of attention and the education they are getting.

I'm one of the Watch D.O.G.S. at the school and I'm always amazed at how they are able to keep so many kids so well behaved and moving smoothly between activities. My kids are in the dual language program and they're learning a great deal. Great school.

ANYONE who is displeased with Coker teachers or staff administration HAS TO HAVE A PERSONAL ISSUE that is causing the problem. I have had children here since the 1980s and now have grandchildren there TOP NOTCH school in everyday and teachers/staff show genuine affection and concern as they teach our children and grandchildren an education to last a lifetime

If I was able to give zero stars I would. The staff at this school are rude! Unrealistic inconsiderate baboons ! I'm looking to purchase another home in a different district please! Please!please ! Do not send your children here!

Our kids attended Coker and now our grandkids are there in the dual language program. We have had excellent experiences with the faculty and staff who have always been helpful and encouraging. We are a family of educators and realize attitudes can make or break a school year. Keep up the great work Coker Cubs!!

This school is average at best. Staff and faculty are as cold as ice. Located right off a main road it has the feel of a high school and the number of students to back that statement. Not somewhere I would be happy to boast my child goes here. We live in the district so are basically forced to go here as we missed the deadline for School Choice due to military relocation. Parents are not allowed to drop off their children inside the building. I would not recommend this school to military families or newcomers to San Antonio. It's horrible and we are only two days in. If you are used to high quality education this school is not for you.

Love love love Coker!! Our son is in the dual language program there and is doing well. The school is a happy, well-run place!
