I taught at this school for 5 years. It gets a very negative wrap from a few bad eggs. The kids here are great, and because of the magnet school, some of the most intelligent students in San Antonio go there. The theatre program is great, and keeps the school culture thriving!

Just like most public schools in San Antonio, there is a lot of positive things happening at Jay that get overshadowed by the negatives. As a substitute teacher on campus, I was treated better than I admittedly anticipated. The students were mostly respectful of me as long as I showed respect for them and the teachers were mostly helpful. Some of the leadership and regretably some other veteran teachers took the approach of I'm better than everyone else because of their job title, but I never let that distract me from helping students from all kinds of adverse backgrounds complete assignments and improve grades.

The teachers were very involved with the students and even allowed them to eat lunch in their classrooms during lunchtime

I transferred from Marshall high school where they limited the classes you could take and had a high amount of bias among the school. My time at John Jay was filled with hands on help from my teachers and lots academic achievements from all the opportunities available. The school is in a not so great area but the students are hardworking and driven by the fantastic staff.

John Jay high school to me is one of the best high schools in San Antonio. Most of the teachers will ensure and try their best to see that all their students excel and pass all classes. It is also very competitive . John Jay High School has the best soccer team in San Antonio with great efforts made by all the coaches .Despite the fact that Mar back road is still under construction , Jay high school is a very unique school. One of the better schools in the area, John Jay has a pretty good reputation. There are good programs and clubs to join in and get into. It's easy to pass the classes. Just do your homework. Kids are nice. You'll definitely make friends. Just don't get into any fights. And don't get into any fights with people of a different race. Because JHS had previously been known to have 'race wars' in the past. Don't want to spark another one. That's why I kept my african american behind in my books, kept my class, didn't act ghetto, and kept myself above the foolishness. The faculty is great and the teachers are excellent. Have fun and most of all enjoy yourself.
