Would not recommend it’s the new school year it’s only been three days and the first two days my daughter comes home each day saying “teacher was yelling” second day “teacher is mad because she don’t like us” like what !!! Never moved my kid faster AND their ac don’t even work ! It’s always hot in that school and the front lady at desk is rude ! Very rude she’s an old lady with white blond ish hair

I think a teachers job is to create a safe and fun environment for kids to learn. However, my experience was far from that. First of all, my kid is mixed (and not at all Latino) when signing my kid up I checked off the appropriate boxes as a parent would do. Only to find out the school administration took it upon themselves to change my answer you Hispanic. Why are they messing with my answers?
Second of all during a parent teacher conference I was asked to talk to my child about “lying” . The teacher said my kid was lying about where she is from. My kid is mixed and might not look like it but was honestly answering the questions when prompted. My kid was being called a liar due to the ignorance and a teachers personal prejudice. How is that supposed to cultivate a successful educational environment when my kid is uncomfortable and frustrated? Besides the racial discrimination when talking to the teacher it was clear that the mindset was the teacher is always right. However, I will stand up for my kid in any situation. When it was clear that I was not siding with the teacher my child felt more targeted than before. We finally just had to leave that school the things I shared were just the tip of the iceberg… if you could believe that. It’s an elementary school my kid shouldn’t have to worry about any racial profiling or prejudice.

Most students in my son's class were bilingual. Unfortunately, he was not and did not understand the students and teacher speaking Spanish. He started calling himself "the sometimes kid". Sometimes he would get a little bit of help but the priority was to teach the kids who spoke Spanish in class. Is language immersion necessary? Of course, it's an effective program. Leaving other children out that do not fit into that mold is NOT OK. I also could not believe the things I was hearing coming out of the mouths of elementary school children. We came from a different state, if our students had behaved that way at home, their little butts would have been kicked out the door. All of the kids at this school deserve a better chance. I know some teachers are probably trying...but some are not.

Three out of my four children have attended this school. My other child had aged out of elementary before we moved to the district, but I wish she had been able to go to Howsman.
The teachers and staff are caring, kind, and exceptional. I absolutely love this school and want them to be able to stay here for their entire elementary school experience.

I absolutely love this school .. My children have been coming here for the past 3 yrs and I have had no problems there. The front staff is very friendly and caring and so are the teachers even the volunteers. The school is the reason why I wouldn't move elsewhere. My children have also learned so much more here than in neisd. This is highly recommended school

ITS SMALL BUT A VERY NICE TEACHERS TEAM. MY TWO DAUGHTERS LOVE IT. ONE IS IN 3RD GRADE AND THE LITTLE ONE IN PRE K AND BOTH ARE LEARNING IMPORTANT MANNERS FROM THEIR TEACHERS, ALSO MY OLDEST DAUGHTER SAY THAT ALL HER CLASS GROUP MATES ARE VERY RESPECTFUL AND THEY CARE ABOUT EACH OTHER.

My boys have been students at Howsman for 3 years, and they love it. When we first enrolled our oldest son back in 1st grade, we sat with the teacher and discussed all of our concerns about the possibility of him having Autism. The entire staff moved quickly, tested him thoroughly and placed him in specials and other recommended curriculum. He has since flourished more than we could have imagined. Both of our boys' teachers throughout the years have been extraordinary, more than willing to go the extra mile and genuinely care. The vice-principal and other support staff are incredible. They send home plenty of homework, which my boys hate, but it is not overwhelming. A couple teachers are already fighting over who gets to have our 3 year old daughter in their class when she starts school. As a parent, I feel my confident that my kids are safe and secure while at Howsman, and the staff have gone above and beyond in my children's education and well-being.

My kids have been here the last three years. They like the school. They complain about bullies sometimes, but I think that is typical. Unfortunately, this is a public school in Texas so everything is focused on the TAKS tests. We did not hear much about science until after the Reading and Math TAKS and then they got a packet or two and took the Science TAKS. I can't imagine they did very well. This school needs to step up the homework and raise their expectations. Over-all the school is alright.
