Sul Ross Middle School has been one of the most disappointing and concerning school environments I have encountered. Bullying is routinely ignored, and students are allowed to fight outside classrooms with little to no consequence. There is a clear lack of enforcement when it comes to behavior, discipline, and student safety.
Teachers and staff appear overwhelmed or indifferent, and meaningful action is rarely taken even after repeated incidents.

My child has been attacked multiple times, yet the school failed to hold the responsible students accountable they don't care if students get hurt or die. This sends a dangerous message that bullying and violence are tolerated.
Security measures are extremely lacking. There should be stricter supervision, enforcement of dress code, and bag inspections at entry, similar to what is done in other secure facilities. Cameras should be present in hallways and classrooms to ensure transparency and accountability.
Leadership is also a major concern. The administration has not demonstrated urgency or commitment to protecting students. A safe learning environment starts at the top, and unfortunately, that is not what is being provided here.
Children deserve to feel safe at school. Until stronger discipline policies, proper security, and real accountability are enforced, this school will continue to fail the students who need protection the most.

I do not recommend this school as a student who has attended. This school is one of the only public schools with uniforms and I think this rule is flawed. First of all, some students can't afford to buy new clothes from their financial situation. Some students don't have access to laundry machinery or maybe even don't have an adult who would wash their laundry. Does that mean they need to get pulled aside or reported from their classroom? Exactly. Students should be able to go to school and not have to worry about their learning time getting taken away from them just because they wore something other than plain khakis and a school shirt. This rule also limits ways a student is able to express themselves in their clothing. Now my peers, they're loud and uncontrollable and the teacher barely does anything to stop such behavior. I have been picked on at this school by a large group of children who I will not name and the teachers just let it happen. Look, I understand you might want to not listen to another prissy, "bratty" kid, but take my word. I don't want any more children getting hurt, including maybe yours. I have been able to make friends however. There are still good children in this school. Even my friend has faced discrimination for her weight, which is absolutely disgusting. They have been picked on in school and on the bus and they haven't even been here as long as I have (they're new). The children attending this school are cruel and will find anyway to pick on your child. This school is not friendly towards neurodivergent children from my experience. They mock and think it's funny to make fun of disabled children and use SPED as an insult. I cannot speak on the behalf of the physically disabled however and I won't because I am not physically disabled. Overall, I do not recommend all because of the kids here. There are good teachers here, but not all of them are good. I have been yelled at by some of these teachers who should not even be teaching minors. PLEASE. DON'T. SEND. YOUR. CHILD. HERE.
