My son did the Headstart’s program here but the overall experience with the school horrible. I have never once seen the principal wait I seen her once coming out her car she walked in disappeared never seen her again when you walk through the halls all the teachers are gossiping yelling at a kid and just look miserable . I don’t understand the need for background check if Headstart parents can’t go back there when it’s urgent !! They put so much rules on Headstart parents like not parking in the front but there own parents do it . Staff needs to be more approachable

For the most part the teachers here are wonderful. A lack of educational resources for struggling students is the only thing from holding the teachers from being extraordinary.

Ms Johnson is everything you could ask for in a principal. There’s probably over 700 kids at the school and I bet she knows every single one by name. If you ever have an issue she shows a willingness to listen and help provide solutions.

Bullying happens at every school. If you think it can be eradicated you may be delusional. Bullying is tragic and I expect the school to handle it adequately if it escalates beyond “meanness” as this school does. These kids need some adversity to develop problem solving skills so it is wonderful that this school doesn’t insert into every disagreement

Not all teachers in the same grade follow the same homework policy. Had 2 kids in the same grade. One kid had zero homework and the other had an abundance. Every teacher needs to be on the same page.

All of my kids have attended this school. Top to bottom it’s is a great school. The only thing holding it back is Northside ISD. If they would put more money into the school it would look better. Also if the district didn’t serve food that the prison system would turn their nose at, These kids would have a better experience. If you send your kid here pack them a lunch. The food is barely edible. It took going to eat with my kids to learn that lesson.

My daughter has attended for kinder and is 3/4 way through her 1st grade year. Kinder was very rough, her teacher threatened to hold her back because her reading wasn't improving fast enough. This resulted in us living and breathing homework and reading. I'd actually have my daughter read to me every time we were in the car, it didn't matter, the threat to retain her in kinder still persisted. First grade has been a completely different experience, her teacher has been fantastic, reading is no longer an issue and my child is advancing as expected for her age.

Perhaps it's the neighborhood and parents, but a major complaint of mine is the complexity of drop off and pick up. Parents can't seem to grasp the concept of parallel parking and dropping off parents refuse to pull all the way forward. Also, possibly because many parents may not have internet access loads and loads of loose papers are sent home almost daily. Pro: you'll always have scratch paper. Con: they're killing all the forests in the worlds to notify you about the free domestic violence class on tuesday. Last complaint is that most of the extracurricular fun activities involve fast food PTA nights or "snack attacks", hardly beneficial to children.

Her kinder teacher was difficult but her first grade teacher has been amazing.

Kindergarten homework was extreme and overwhelming as a parent.

This school is substandard to say the least. The office staff really pulls together to try to hide this schools problems rather then fix them. The teachers are under staffed and over worked. Which makes them short tempered at times. There standardized test grades have dropped steadily every year. It's sad really, but this school is going down hill fast. Most parents are very unhappy with this school but don't really know what to do about it. They need to have a clean out of the office staff who seem confused at even the simplest task..

Ed Cody has an incredible their staff. Ms. Johnson & Ms. Castillo, very accommodating to parents & students. Nurse Jana is extraordinary. Great teachers. Unfortunately overwhelmed by the # of students they must teach. Many students have emotional needs, lag developmentally which leads to disciplinary issues. Above average/good students get little any academic attention. Learning Tree Program is horrible. The after-school "teachers" do not have nearly enough training/supervision. They YELL at the children & use fear at times to control them. They require all the students to put their head down on cafeteria tables toward the end of the day. They do not allow parents inside even a minute earlier and often open the doors late. The director of Learning Tree will appear to listen, but the problems continue. The children are not adequately supervised. Homework is not done. Children are corralled into the library/classroom to watch a movie while the "teachers-aid" eat or chit-chat. Children are favored over other children as well. Learning Tree Program at Ed Cody is barely deserving of one-star and is not at all up to the standards that Ms. Johnson requires during school hours.
