I dress differently and I get bullied almost everyday. Also I don't like the school counselors. I was really struggling once and my friends told the school counselor and she said that my friends needed to tell me to shut up about my problems and talk to a trusted adult instead of my friends. But if your in magnet Mrs bings is the bestest teacher and I feel like a learn a lot in this school. I just don't feel all that safe in the hallways and I don't trust many adults on campus

Parents, if you are thinking about enrolling your child into Zachry, please don'thear me out. Never have I ever associated a place with so much trauma in my entire life. As I am much older, and currently approaching my sophomore year of highschool, I've realized that Zachry had more issues than they were already notoriously known for having. As far as I'm aware, they have done nothing to resolve these issues, as I currently have a sibling who informs me about every incident that happens over there.
One of the most familiar issues with Zachry is definitely bullying. Although staff claims to take bullying seriously, they really don't do their part at all. In fact, most teachers/staff working here will turn a blind eye when it comes to bullyingeven if it's happening right in front of their faces. I strongly remember when two girls working at the table next to me in math class would bully me daily in seventh grade. They would say negative things about me, and would often try/encourage others to steal items from me. As for my teacher? I thought I could trust him in a situation like thisbut he never helped me, despite knowing I was visibly miserable being around my classmates. Nothing I did to handle the situation was effective, which led me to dread leaving my home before going to school.
Additionally, students may take extreme approaches to harassment/bullying. Although it can be in the form of verbal threats, students take it to another level and begin touching people without their consent. From experience, I had a boy come up to me and stroke my arm and make an extremely inappropriate remark. Luckily, a few students saw him do this and eventually the boy had stopped. However, nothing had been done. As for the recent school year, my sister had encountered a similar issue. During after-school hours, a girl had been touching/shoving her without stopping. Nobody was helping her out, nor was standing up for herself effectivethe situation had completely got out of hand to the point where my dad had to step in.
By all means, please enroll your child elsewhereZachry is not a good place for them to be. I wish I was able to write more about past issues that this school continues to face in the present, but unfortunately, there isn't enough space for that to be said. Parents, I really request that you invest in researching a bit more about this school to keep your child safe. I look forward to posting a full review on another platform.

These teachers are okay, but honestly the students here are so rude for no reason. I've been to another campus, stevenson, in the district and it was easier to make friends over there than it is here at zachry. please reconsider making your child go to this school. anywhere but here.

Overall, its a good campus to learn in, the teachers are great and all but i cant say the same about the students attending. The people here are bad, they will make fun of you about everything you do, no matter if you suffer from a mental disability, its the same. As a student i feel pressured to fit into the standards of it, or at least seem like a normal person. Too much social pressure!!!

Worst school I have ever been to. Period. They are ridiculously strict when it comes to the dress code, and allow teachers to bully their students. I was forced to walk home in 90° weather in SWEATPANTS because my shorts were an inch too short. I and several other girls have been watched in the locker room by one of the female coaches while we are changing. Also, none of us have lockers outside of the gym. We have to carry our laptops and all of our books around all day.

I've heard positive and negative statements about staff intervention (or lack of) regarding bullying. Some bullies are sly and staff may not grasp that it's happening under their noses. Students often don't report bullying because they are afraid of reprisals. When observed, it is dealt with according to policy. Teachers' jobs hang in the balance; if they saw bullying and took no steps they could be fired.

As a veteran teacher (20+ years) I substituted here for half a year. I've been to worse public schools where the students are completely out of control. Here, there are many wild cards, but overall it's manageable. However, scores reflect how the school (like most public schools) deal with behavior problems. Teachers strive to make lessons more entertaining and less challenging; if students don't perform well their scores are sharply curved so that they may pass their classes. As proof, notice that students with A's and B's in English or Math fail these subjects in the state testing -- doesn't this seem odd? The teachers are paid very well (given their limited experience, I think they're overpaid) but they get minimal support from administration regarding behavior issues, and they quickly bow to the pressure of passing the students on. Schools (all public schools) worry more about their suspension and pass rate statistics than about keeping order in the classrooms. You can get by with this in middle school, though it makes the situation worse year by year. This is why most students in high school are under-educated, and one of the many reasons I stopped teaching.

Students rarely get homework; when brought home it is very simple. The reason is because homework routinely gets ignored. This translates to poor grades, which translates to failing students, which translates to teachers losing their jobs. Therefore, homework is relatively rare and it is as simple as positive in order to encourage students to do it. This allows teachers to 'check the box' and say that they've given homework, and most students will probably do it in class (if it's simple/easy) so that they are more likely to turn it in the next day.

There are strong teachers, but most are relatively new and ineffective. Teachers are cut loose if they have many failing students, yet if students are unwilling to do their work, there is little for a teacher to do except either 'dumb down' their curriculum or strongly curve their students' grades. Actually, both are common tactics to pass students on. This is why so many students pass their classes with good grades, yet fail simple State tests.

Character development happens primarily in the home. As a teacher, one learns a great deal about the student's home environment via their behavior and habits. Developing character in school is problematic, as discipline consequences are weak and parents aren't generally supportive. When students observe others being allowed to behave poorly, it encourages them to follow suite. Look at it this way: Prior to Christmas break there may be two or three problem students in each class. By Spring break that number will easily double or triple. In a class of 25, that's 12-13% turning into 25% or more. Teaching rapidly becomes more difficult; instruction is hobbled because of discipline issues. Also, it's common for instruction to be 'dumbed down' to get more students to participate, so an unspoken agreement springs up. If students are challenged, they will misbehave more readily. Given more difficult work, students will rebel. Through subtle coercion students learn to avoid difficult tasks. This is not a positive character trait.

Bad behavior, particularly from students with disabilities or from Special Education, is glossed over. Again, some teachers have better control in their classrooms overall, but when necessary to go to admin there is limited support.

Students in Special Education get limited assignments and are allowed to behave poorly with little consequences. This influences the class as a whole. Their assignments don't challenge them at all, yet they're passed on as if they had achieved some mastery of their subjects. They don't learn much because they're not taught much, or at least not held accountable for learning.

This is an overall terrible school. The food, teachers, and even the kids here are terrible. I was bullied by two other girls at this school.

My son is autistic and he receive nothing but bulling and has been physically hurt by other students and doesn't matter how many times my son and I report this, nothing happens, also the special education area coordination try to give special ed. students the minimum necessary, instead of give each student what they need, and she is highly (but very politically correct) of any parental concerns, I so very disappointed of this school. And alcohol and drugs circulate in this school like candy.

The homophobia and racism that goes on in this school is terrible! I can't walk through the halls without hearing some racial slur and my friend who's a lesbian is being talked about behind her back. There is also tons of bullying problems and fighting. The teachers don't try to stop anything. Uuugghhh I just wanna finish middle school already!

This school is TERRIBLE! The teachers and admin are not there to help the students. My child repeatedly seeks help but none is available. She is bullied and made fun of by other teachers but the admin doesn't help. Can't wait till she is out of this school!!

My wife and I have been pleased with Zachry MS. We have our 4th child attending and we're pleased with the comfortable, welcoming and safe feeling we get when we enter the school. Our child stays busy with band and other activities. Staff communication has been good.

My child went to this school. You don't get a warm and welcoming feeling there. Despite the atmosphere, my child continued to excel academically and scored high in the STAAR tests as had always done; we were glad for this. The school does offer a great array of extracurricular activities which is a plus. I also believe the teachers are trying to teach the kids as best as they can. However, many of the students who attend this school lack respect and good manners and commonly use inappropriate language (slang terms and curse words) as a normal manner of talking and supervising adults (teachers) seldom if ever correct or discipline them if and when over heard. A handful of fights were also witnessed. Teaching respect and good manners are not part of the school curriculum, this is left to the parents to teach, which unfortunately some parents are not teaching very well. In this school kids are exposed to every spectrum of society including the good and the bad as well as a diverse social economic background which in itself can all be viewed as a Social Studies learning experience in itself. Despite the pluses and minuses my child seemed to like attending the school.

I have two children who go to this school one in 7th grade and one in 6th grade. I've had nothing but issues with this school. The bullying and gangs at this school is ridiculous, Ive been up there over 6 times for my kid's being bullied. Not to meantion the weekly drug problems. I will be finding another school for my childern to attend next year. I'd rrecommend not taking your children here.. The office never returns your calls either..

awesome. needs more time to get to classes though. 3 minutes is not enough. other than that it is a great school! i am a 6th grader there currently! its great! you'll meet lots of friends and OK teachers!

I am certain that Zachry has many students who are exceptional spellers. How are they to get to the outside competition when there is nothing offered internally?
