Spicewood has been coasting on its reputation for far too long unfortunately. There have been 3 principals in the last 5 years with a ton of teacher turnover. Many experienced teachers left due to poor leadership. The majority of the student population comes from high achieving and/or affluent families so they will do well academically bc they have parent or outside help. The school community is becoming less diverse as more people who like country club life move into the neighborhood. They need to get leadership right at this school before things can be turned around, and that will take time as well.

In my experience, I had really fun and a lot of students I interacted with were really friendly and I had a nice time with my teachers because they made all the students participate and I really enjoyed my time there now I am in middle school and I am still with my elementary school friends because friendship bonds at spicewood are very strong that you cannot break them forever. I loved my time in Spicewood. Go Panthers!!

There are few IB primary education options at RRISD. Spicewood Elementary is one of them. I like the school because of a few reasons:
1. IB program builds fundamental of children`s future learning
2. The school put a lot of effort on academy. Math and science program and TAG are excellent.
3, The school has its uniqueness in many ways. Chess club, DI, robotics, those are top level among ISD.
4. Teachers and staff are so devoted. There are many excellent teachers there I wish they can teach our children from kinder to 12th grade. They are that good. They are dedicated, passionate. Simply lovable and they have our respect.
5. PTA--They are one of the best, organizing all events and fundraising, very inclusive with diversity as well.

Both of my kids attended this school and they have loved their experience there. The teachers are very caring and inspiring.

My daughter has had some learning difficulties and this school has gone above and beyond to give her extra support! We feel so lucky to have SWES as our neighborhood elementary school.

Hard working teachers and Admin. Plus the IB program promotes advanced learning for students and character building for students. My child has excelled against tough odds at this school due to teachers who care and admin. Who maintains high standards.

This school is overrated in every aspect. Unless you child can get into TAG, it is no better than an average public school. And you better hope that your child never gets into any kind of trouble or you will have to deal with a admin that is only interested in blaming parents and students to protect themselves instead of offering help and standing up for justice. Kids who excel are heavily tutored outside of school. Save your money on mortgage payments--the houses in the area are old and overpriced due to this overrated school (which is old and overcrowded). The large Asian population (falsely) inflated the school ratings and home prices. Save your money for tutoring by living in a newer/cheaper home somewhere else.

Not sure how much it helps the kids learn. Student : teacher ratio is 25:1 due to population expansion and lack of space and maybe funding.

It depends on who you get. Some teachers at this school are horrible--teaches the wrong math, spells wrong, show favoritism, never returns emails and disappears when students need assistance. School has a policy that parents cannot request teachers--which shows that there are clearly significant differences between quality of teachers.

How can unkind and dishonest adults nurture strong character in kids? Teachers and parents alike. Plus teachers are over worked these days. Time to issue a raise and hire more qualified people.

Insecure and weak leadership that's not an advocate of students and parents. All the admin really cares about is promoting business and securing their own position. The principal is Korean and hires Korean nurse and cafeteria workers--possible sign of favoritism.

They teach in the middle like all public schools. Unless advanced students test into TAG, they will be bored. They are not interested in providing help to struggling students either. Teachers spend way too much time focusing on preparing for standardized STAAR tests under pressure from an admin that cares too much about scores and ratings for their school.

I have had two African-American daughters that have been to this school and is still attending. To a school that is predominately white and I had some concern at first. But this school sees no color. The principal Mrs. Kim is great. The children are engaged and are prepared when going into middle school. They enable creativity with the children and encourage activities outside the school. You will not go wrong sending your children to Spicewood.

Very nice school, my two children are at their 3rd year here and only 1 out of the 6 teachers I've met was not the best at communicating with me about some issue with one of my kids, but things were eventually resolved.

Teachers at the school are still fantastic and there are a lot of good kids. Principal has managed to alienate a large number of parents in only 1.5 years. Very difficult to work with on any issue. School needs new leadership.

We couldn't be happier with the teachers, administration, or the school environment. Our children receive a fantastic education in a caring, supportive environment that brings out their best.

Excellent environment for my two kids; they are taught to question rather than just memorize. Teachers and administrators are very approachable.. and the principal, Ms. Kim, seems to know the name of every kid despite being her first month at the school. Parents are involved.. and they care. I was surprised that someone commented earlier that the parents were snobs--there may be clicks, but that's the same with all neighborhoods. However, I wouldn't look to the school to fill my social calendar--I'm just looking for the school to truly educate and prepare my kids. From this perspective, Spicewood truly excels.

Is this school easy? No. Is every day Rainbows and ponies? No again. Do I compare my child out in social settings and see her light years ahead of other children her age from private schools? Yes. The parents that are involved do a great job here. Having a school in a golf course community helps because there is a lot of interaction among the neighborhood beyond the school if you wish. The school can be a little intimidating at first but once you grasp the interaction between teachers, administration, and parents it is a great environment. Is not what my elementary was but it will give my children the best opportunity to be successful and quite honestly could not be happier.

Negative experience all year long: un nurturing environemnt. The extra curricular are a joke, only opened to certain grades. Chess starts at 6.30 AM. The Spanish club is only for 5th graders. The majority of teachers are being moved grade regularly. This school si a very big disappointment compared to his old reputation. Parents are snobby and some come to school on their golf carts !!

Horrible environment for younger children, very competitive and mean to the kids. Most teachers are new to the profession, at any age, and very limited in terms of knowledge of the IB. The Spanish teaching is every 6th school day for 20 min in English adn 20 min of numbers, colors and basic review over and over. The books they sent home to read with the kiddos are not even level appropriate. I would not recommend this school for anyone.

If there was a ZERO star button, I would use it. We are so happy Ms. June is leaving. She is a mean, unethical, uncompassionate, old-school, very strict hypocritical, the worse Principal I have ever known. She bullied and ridiculed Kidnergarderners in front of me and did not listen to parents' comments. We are so glad she is leaving. This school has a loud reputation for nothing. We are very disappointing in the level of acadmics and the IB program (is a joke). We strongly do not recommend you to put your child there.

My kids love going to Spicewood. Mrs. June is an amazing leader. She knows every child personally. All of my kids' teachers have been exceptional. I would highly recommend this school.

This is one of the best schools in Round Rock / Austin area. I am impressed to see how my 1st grade child can read better than others in her level. I owe an appreciation to Mrs. Martinez, the class teacher, for it. My child continues building her self-confidence through the school's program. Mrs. Devine is the kindest counselor ever! She gave my child tickets for the spring carnival while I couldn t afford it. That one moment turned my little kid to be a sympathetic & compassionate human being. Unfortunately, Mrs. Devine is retiring and will not go back to the school next year. I highly recommend this school.
