We have been at this school for two years. We have two children attending. I have found the entire staff from the front office, to of course the teachers, friendly and engaging. I think the community is amazing as well and the opportunity to engage with the school or other parents wonderful. I have found the leadership to be solid and hear the teachers praise it as well. I feel really lucky to be a part of this community and see my kids fall in love with learning. And it is not from the point of view where everything was always smooth- both of our kids had some bumps at times with various elements from some school anxiety to reading skills. The school responded beautifully. My experience is that this is a tremendous place with wonderful people and I’m glad our family has gotten to be a part of it.

We have been at this school now for 3 years and I can’t speak more highly of the teachers, staff, counselors and Heath Frazer. So thankful for them all! Highly recommend!

I am writing a review after reading all of the previous reviews written I have a few things to say. I have two kids (twins) that are now in 5th grade and have been there since Kindergarten. I have only had positive experiences with Great Oaks Elementary. I have not met a teacher that doesn't LOVE GOE and many have been there for many many years. This fact is an excellent sign that this school is a welcoming and positive place to work and attend. We experienced the Covid years at GOE when my kids were at end of 1st grade through maybe the beginning of 3rd grade. I was very impressed with how the principal and staff dealt with this very difficult time for the education system. My kids luckily were able to bounce back and really didn't experience any gaps during this time. I have a kiddo with a 504 and he was able to stay on level the entire time. i have only ever felt that GOE provides a well organized, super communicative, warm and welcoming environment. If that doesn't provide an excellent environment for learning then I don't know what does.

I want to like the school, it is only our 3rd year here but I am quite disappointed. The first couple of years are constantly chaos due to class changing. The school is encouraged little kids tattle tell on each other, simple issues are not addressed at school but teacher feels the need to send notes home to parents? It is a very negative approach! My kid is not perfect and we need that nurturing environment, however I feel like mine are being labeled and won’t get the benefit of the doubt. Teacher will send an email summary of what they did for the week and never any homework. I usually don’t know exactly what they do in class or where to help my kid until I see the test result sent home. There is only 1 teacher parents conference for the entire school year. It is an unbearable school year for us, I am looking forward to the next year and hopefully we will have a teacher that is truly care!

We love this school, the principal Heath Frazer is really taking care of the school's needs, the teachers and staff are excellent and overall everything is well organized, a nice variety of after school clubs which is a plus

I am very satisfied with the school. Heat Frazier the Principal is always in communication with parents. I also had a great experience with the language specialist helping onboarding my child to his new school.

My kids attended this school from 1st to 5th grade, and we couldn't be more happy to choose it. It is a great school and the teachers are very caring. The Principal has been great with every question or concern we had, and he helped us until the very last day of school. To be honest, this has been the best Elementary school for my kids. They loved going there every day and they will miss it! I totally recommend it.

We moved so my kids could attend Great Oaks. We are so happy. Kids are welcomed each morning, and my kids love their teachers.

This school is so welcoming and positive. It truly feels like a family. They foster a love of learning and each of the teachers my daughter has had truly seems to love their job. The principal seems very supportive of the staff and the kids love him.

We made several attempts to contact the principal and vice principal to arrange a tour of the school on a recent house hunting trip. Out of a dozen schools that we contacted, Great Oaks was the only one that didn't respond. Even after the trip was over, we sent some follow up emails asking some general, reasonable questions about the school environment (homework policy, discipline approach, etc...) but were completely ignored. I think that says a lot about the administration and their approach to parents -- that parents are a nuisance and their concerns are unimportant

My son was bullied here. One teacher was great, but didn't know what to do to help my son. The other teacher he had was just rude and would send him out of class. The principal here is judgemental and doesn't care about kids with special needs or who are being bullied.

Great Oaks Elementary is a well organized, caring, highly academic, nurturing environment for all children. As an educator and parent, I am thrilled that we have our children at this school. My son is consistently challenged to be his best self, striving for academic excellence and character development. Love that they have leadership training built into the curriculum. Awesome school!

This school's Special Ed services are outstanding. My child can now spend almost all day in a General Ed class setting with his peers. AWESOME!!

I wonder if the 2nd grade teacher from the previous review is the same one my daughter had last year- Yes, There is a second grade teacher that according to my daughter "screams at kids" and is rude -ONE bad apple- HOWEVER, this year my daughter was placed with an awesome & truly positive third grade teacher that goes the extra mile to provide awesome help (extra tutoring) if needed. My daughter comes home happy and always has GREAT comments about her 3rd grade teacher. We also have another daughter in Kinder- she is also having a great experience!!! Learning environment is great. The K-teacher always has a genuine smile in her face and makes kids feel confident & comfortable. She has a "yes! We can" attitude. Yes- there is room for improvement, specially in the morning traffic... But how about dropping off kids early to avoid the last minute commotion!? -The Principal is very engaged, looks for ways to improve the school and 'tries' to be friendly (yes, COULD be better)... but no one is perfect. -As parents, we can engage in activities to get to know the teachers, and hope bad apples change or leave... A great School also needs GREAT parents!

I used this website to decide what school to send my children to. As a parent of a student that has been there for over two years I am saddened to say this school does not deserve 9/10. My daughter's second grade teacher told her that if she were to take medication she would be able to go to University of Texas. Insinuating that if she did not that she would fail. She made her entire second grade year The principal is just a "Yes man" he just agrees and soon as you walk out that door nothing will change. The traffic to drop your children off is unlike anything ever seen. Keep that in mind before choosing this school because all traffic is directed to one small area and dropping off your child can take up to 30 minutes. I wouldn't be surprised if the previous review was by a teacher considering they are actually that childish, rude, and at times condescending. It is sad to hear other parents also have issues with this school and their "methods" of "teaching." As the previous review mentioned, putting your children in a private school is probably a far better idea considering this school teaches to the test. They even tell students, do well or we may be fired! Unprofessional.

I think you're a little off with your remarks. The first question you need to ask yourself is, "Does my child want to be In advance classes to begin with?" Most parents think it's the right move but don't think that it actually takes away from the child learning at his level. To be honest most kids are not ready for advance classes. It's the parents that push them to do it. Kinda reminds me of the show "Toddlers and Tiaras". So many over zealous mothers with faded dreams living their lives through their children. Very sad. With that said, the principal does a great job communicating with parents and children. My son has been there for 2 years and have no complaints.... Except for some of the parents who do not follow rules when dropping of their children. If you feel that your child is not getting the education they need at a public school maybe you should think about paying for a private school. There are plenty here in town that may fit your child's academic difficulties. It will just cost you some $$$.... But that shouldn't matter considering the motivation you have for him/her to learn at an advanced rate.

Terrible school!!! Actually I think it is just part of the Texas public system. They don't push the advance students. Yes, there is the TAG program, but if they don't get in then they just sit there bored. The principal is worthless. All he does is say " Yes, that is a good idea but we can't do that". This school is run like a day care, instead of an academic challenging school. There is no communication with the teachers. They don't want to have parent conferences unless they are failing...

My son went to Great Oaks from KG to 5th grade and my daughter is in 5th grade. We are very happy with Great Oaks Elementary. Teachers are awesome. My kids love to go to school. Both of them actually missed their teachers and school during vacations.

I am curious as the if the other parent review on November 15th is a kinder teacher. This school is wonderful for my 4th grader, not so much for my kinder. He went from being enthusiastic and WANTING to learn before starting GOE to being in tears when I try to teach him at home now. He is totalling shutting down. Handwriting has gotten horrible also and the correct way to write I have taught is being reversed somehow in the classroom. I do agree with the advanced kids not being pushed academically and recommend TAG classes. It also has to do with who the teacher is as well. Do not hesitate for constant communication and if that is still refused go to principal.

Great Oaks has given my kids a wonderful community to support and encourage their education. So many parents are active in supporting the school, and the PTA Carnival in the spring is amazing, both as a fundraiser and as a fun time for kids. The principal is friendly, energetic, and positive. He know kids and often parents by name, and he and the assistant principal are always visible and engaged with the school community. I LOVE the teachers my kids have this year. There are a few teachers who aren't as strong, but on the whole, the teachers are on top of their classes in terms of curriculum and class management. The school also offers excellent support services for kids who need additional assistance, and most teachers are quick to consult with other staff members and talk with parents if they think a child is struggling, so they can get the child back on track asap. I am so happy that my kids are Geckos!

The teacher is new so she may just not know her way around the school yet, but I must say, I am very unimpressed. My son was transferred from Bluebonnet ES in hopes this school would be better academically, and it's not. In fact, it's FAR WORSE! At Bluebonnet he was given special attention because he was much farther advanced, but in this school he is left sitting bored in class, and is falling behind!
