A warm, welcoming community and an exceptional school!
Weve had a fantastic experience at Davis Elementary. From the moment we joined the school, we felt embraced by a truly supportive and inclusive community. Most of the teachers are caring, passionate, and committed to supporting every childnot just academically, but socially and emotionally as well.
The leadership at Davis is strong and approachable, with the principal, assistant principals, counselors, and staff consistently visible, responsive, and clearly invested in every students success. The school offers a wide variety of enrichment programs, events, and clubs that help kids explore their interests and build confidence.
Parent involvement is highly encouraged, and there are so many ways to connect and contributewhether through classroom support, the PTA, or school-wide events.
Our kids are thriving here, and we feel so lucky to be part of the Davis Dolphins family!

We transferred into Davis from out of district when our daughter was starting kindergarten, and it has been one of the best decisions of our family's life. The Davis community has welcomed us. The teachers and staff are supportive, creative, thoughtful, and skilled. Our daughter is now graduating from fifth grade, and we look back on our Davis years with gratitude and joy. We are so glad to have been a part of this wonderful school - thank you, Davis teachers and staff!!!

We've been at Davis for two years now and love it. The only qualms I have with it are the location (it's off of a busy road) and understaffing. Both feel like larger issues than campus related though so I don't necessarily fault Davis. I feel fortunate to be zoned to such a quality and diverse campus for my kids.

Davis has been a wonderful learning environment for my children these past seven years. The teachers are invested in the kids and it is a very nurturing school that keeps learning fresh and fun. Even teachers from other schools tell us that Davis doesnt get the recognition it deserves. The school is diverse with a strong PTA that is very supportive of the teachers and staff. We love it!

Davis has been an excellent environment for our boys to thrive socially, emotionally and academically. The parent community and engagement is strong, the teachers make learning unique and special and I feel my kids are learning academic skills and core competencies in addition to social/emotional values through the Davis Way program. The administration and staff is incredible and the PTA has inspired a true community feel at our school. Fun events like Dolphinfest, Ocean Olympics (Field Day), Culture Fair, Veteran's programming, Book Fair and the adult-only auction and other fun buy in events make school memorable and allow my kids to create incredible memories. Highly recommend Davis!

My student has been bullied by another student for her entire year at Davis. Shes had instances being bullied since she started in 2nd grade, and not enough is done to ensure her safety at school. I understand the staff is doing what they can without completely expelling the other student, unfortunately it isnt enough and is greatly impacting her emotional health. The bullying is known within a group of students, and the staff has been aware for the years these students have been at Davis. My students mental and emotional health has been greatly impacted, she has lost interest in her school work and cries every day about going to school. She doesnt care about learning and finds no interest in any subject. A lot of the time, she feels punished by teachers and staff, because she now has certain restrictions to keep her away from the other student. Its gotten so bad we are now in therapy and considering moving so we can change schools, which is unfortunate for the friendships she has developed.

Completely baffled at how anyone has had a positive experience at this school. It is essentially a day care, only I'd feel much more comfortable and safe with my child at a day care. We are now at a school that is not within the AISD network, and it's amazing! I honestly don't know how parents can consider this school as acceptable. My child is so happy now, and he is thriving educationally.

The principal, staff, and PTA here are amazing! They have always made our family feel welcome. From pre-K to fifth grade the teachers are deeply caring and committed to each child's education. I volunteer at the school fairly often and have gotten to know a lot of the parents, teachers, and staff. It is a very kind and supportive community. Davis also has a high emphasis on Social Emotional Learning which will serve these children well as adults...Where was that when I was a kid? This is also one of the few schools in Austin to have a heavy emphasis on project based learning and other schools in the area appear to be following suit. This rating by Great Schools is a little baffling from a parent's perspective...

It looks like the GreatSchools.org rating is based on test scores, which for Texas schools is the STAAR test. This is also what the Texas Education Agency uses to rate schools. Davis takes test scores seriously but test prep is not the only thing they focus on. There is a big focus on Social Emotional Learning including self-management, relationship skills, and executive function. They do this with lessons by the guidance counselor to the kids, staff training in Responsive Classroom Strategies, morning meetings, a peace area in each classroom, and more. Davis also has a big focus on Project Based Learning which they do in every grade level. I hear a lot about "voice and choice" for PBL which lets the kids give input on their project. One of the tools they use for PBL is a software program called Project Lead the Way Launch which has pre-designed curriculum focusing on science, engineering, and computer programming. I'm not sure how many other schools in Austin ISD do this but I think it's a very small number and it sounds like those Davis teachers who are certified to train others may be training other teachers in the district. This is a real feather in the cap for Davis. Also, Davis applied to be an Innovation Zone school a few years ago and they were accepted into the program that only a handful of other Austin ISD schools are in. And that allows them more flexibility and autonomy to do things like change the report card to be more standards based which has in turn has shifted the instructional practices in a more standards-based direction. Davis (as part of the Anderson Vertical Team) also has the Creative Learning Initiative resources and the Foreign Language Experience program and gets additional professional development days as part of the "District of Innovation". The Davis PTA helps pay for a science lab coordinator (among other positions) who is a great asset to the school, and a rarity from what I hear. My fourth grade daughter has loved all of her teachers and loves the counselor and has enjoyed her time at the school so far! My one wish is that I could have done something about the cafeteria being too loud. Maybe you, dear reader, can help with that! Please volunteer to photocopy for teachers, run a Math Pentathlon group, shelve books in the library, prep art materials for the art teachers, help maintain the website, or help with community-building school events. Volunteering is also a great way to meet other parents.

I cannot say enough good things about Davis Elementary. The teachers and staff are amazing and have gone above-and-beyond to make the 2020-2021 school year the best it could be. Mrs. Daniels is one of the hardest working humans I know and has worked tirelessly to navigate her team and Davis students through this pandemic. The low rating on this site in no way reflects our experience as Davis Dolphins and is an insult to the incredible staff!
We love Davis Elementary!

I was shocked to discover this school has a C rating. We came here three years ago to escape the stress of a "high performing" school and have found this school, the teachers and the administration to be far better in just about every way. Our three children are happy instead of stressed out, come home inquisitive and eager to learn more instead of exhausted and beat down, and have much healthier relationships with their friends. I am newish to Texas and we didn't do the strange emphasis on the star back home but if that is what is used to determine school ratings, maybe there should be a better system. We love Davis and the PTA and the teachers and Mrs. Morley and the principal and the friendly kitchen staff and the amazing special ed aides who have helped one of my three feel "normal" for the first time in his life. This rating is undeserved.

Excellent. My family would rate our experience as a 10/10. Our children have loved being students there. Their teachers have been kind and caring. Administrators listen to parent concerns and make every attempt to address them. Parents are involved and volunteer regularly making it feel like a true community school.

This school has an unofficial policy of no homework for kindergartners, 10 minutes for 1st graders, and so on. Although I have found it is up to the teachers. That said, all of the teachers have been open to parental concern and will reduce a student's homework if a parent has expressed concern that it is too much for a student or causing a lot of stress and anxiety.

My daughter is in 2nd grade and has been in Davis since PK. She is very fond of all her teachers and counsellors. Due to the drop in great school rankings since the past academic year, we were considering to move to our neighboring school district. But my daughter was completely against the idea. We decided to continue in the same school and am happy we made the right decision. There has been greater emphasis on closing the gaps academically. The school has a 'project based learning' approach. My daughter has specially enjoyed the robotics sessions she had in the fall. We also love the amazing PTA and very friendly staff.

The ranking for the 2017-2018 school year is not reflective of the amazing academic and nurturing environment that Davis has provided, not only for our daughter, but for our entire family. We have had outstanding, thoughtful - and thought-provoking - teachers for all of our first three years at Davis. Entering 3rd grade next year will be interesting with all the emphasis in Texas that is put on test scores, but Davis is much more than that. The educators and administration are teaching our children to be creative thinkers and problem solvers as well as work together (project-based learning activities and otherwise), which is already proving to serve them well.

The administration and teachers have poured themselves into making sure my children are happy and successful at this school. We were at another school in our vertical team that was so focused on the STAAR and doing well on that test that our children didn't seem to be learning anything of value. We transfered to Davis several years ago and don't regret it for a second. Our children are all thriving and love to go to school. There was concern that the low rating meant our children weren't getting the best education and even some concern about the math program at Davis. But math isn't even my oldest child's strength and he's in all advanced placement classes, including math, at Murchison and his best friend is excelling at Kealing, despite concern last year that he wouldn't be prepared. Davis is amazing. Don't let the GreatSchools rating trick you. There's more to a school than its test scores.

We are so very thankful to have ended up at Davis!! The administration is working so very hard to add Project Based Learning to all grade levels. The principal wants our kids to be able to learn from experience and hands on lessons. The parent community is highly involved and cares about all the students. Many of the teachers are working hard to change the way they teach to engage our kids in an 21st century way with technology and creativity.
My only hope is that the few teachers that are stuck in their old ways would move on or change the way they view education.

Both of our children have been at the school for almost their entire elementary experience and we have absolutely loved it! All schools have challenges, but the response of the teachers, and specifically the principal and vice principal to address concerns and pursue excellence, make this school great. Of course, without parent involvement, no school will thrive, and Davis parents have been incredible. We feel truly blessed to be a part of this community.

Some of the teachers at Davis are great. Others are bullies who only care about the students who have the highest grades and will shame those who don't in from of the class. When brought to the principals attention no action was taken.

My son went to Kindergarten in Davis for 2014-2015 year for few months and then we had to move. He now goes to a different school. However, we were very satisfied with the class, curriculum taught and the teacher. His teacher was Mr. Moreno. He would select materials for my son according to his capacity and send home works for his level. My son enjoyed his time in Davis a lot and learned a lot too. He took a big leap in his reading skills. Thank you for all your hard work, Mr. Moreno.

My son and daughter both attended Will Davis Elementary. The teachers are very caring and developed interesting lessons. My children loved going to school! There are many enrichment activities from Math Pentathalon to Spanish Enrichment to a school-wide MARE ocean program. Parent involvement is incredible and there are opportunities for everyone to become involved. The school has two computer labs and a science lab. They are part of a new initiative where each grade level learns another language. My son was taught Latin by a High School Latin teacher! Administration is open to parent concerns and welcomes parent involvement at all levels. It's a great school!

Davis is an absolutely amazing school. Staff is wonderful, caring, and responsive. They have numerous unique and interesting programs. They keep students engaged, and set them up for a life long love of learning. The parent involvement is above and beyond. Fund raisers and school functions abound, are well organized, and super fun to boot. Our 2 children are thriving here, and I am eager for our little ones to grow into this school as well.

The school has great programs: lego robotics, math pentathlon, destination imagination, mare week, international week, etc.. Children are excited about learning at Davis. Our family continues to have an overwhelmingly positive experience.
