If you are looking for a school with a communal feel where parents are familiar not only with their child's teacher but with all administration and teachers in other grades, this is the school for your child. Even the custodial and cafeteria staff know all the children by name and are greeted by them on a daily basis. Teachers know their craft, know their students and families. This is my 4th year teaching at this school and I have never taught at a school that has felt like everyone is family and everyone's opinion matters. This school is very strong on diversity and social/emotional learning. Children learn that differences are a norm and how to advocate for other children who are having a difficult day. There are times, where I am walking down the hall and I get tackled from behind with a big hug from a student. Teachers absolutely love their little scholars and they feel important and understand that teachers want them to succeed. Teachers are extremely knowledgeable in their craft. Special Education department is flexible and knowledgeable. Special Education teachers advocate for their student's need to provide the tools they need to be successful in the classroom.

The teachers at this school are among the best I have worked with. Their dedication is unrivaled and is evident by the genuine smiles on the students faces and the excitement for learning. In recent years, a lot rigor has been added to the curriculum that has really made a difference in outcomes. I expect we will continue to see great things from this campus.

This is by far the best school with which I have had experiences in San Antonio. My kids moved into the AHISD schools after going to Lamar, and the curriculum was slower, the teachers were less attentive, and the community was far less inviting than Lamar. I miss the teachers, most of the administration, and the environment of this school and have actually thought about moving out of the Heights to get back to Lamar. Never mind that rating, it is a wonderful and safe place for children to play and learn.

My son is in kindergarten, we have been at this school for half a year now. We came her from pre-k 4 SA which is an amazing school. I was worried the next school wouldn't live up to Pre -K 4 SA but Lamar Elementary is amazing as well I love how involved Mr. Sparks Is. You can tell he honestly cares for each student. I couldn't have been sent to a better school .
Thank you Mr. Sparks.

Absolutely amazing! I can not say enough good things about the school and the new direction it has taken. Mr. Sparks and the partnership with Trinity University has taken an already great school to an even higher level. The combination of highly experienced teachers and new innovative teachers is exactly what we want for our children. Stepping on campus feels like coming home. There is a strong sense of family due to the small size and huge hearts of the faculty and staff. We are forever grateful for the tuition based Pre K program, which allows our children to start sooner, rather than later, at their neighborhood school. The small class size, roughly 14 in Kinder, paired with one teacher, and one intern from Trinity University, provides a secure and successful learning environment for our children. LOVE LAMAR!!!

The director and the all staff is very committed. They are always listening to you as a parent and show interest in the kids, they just staretd a student counsil and they are working on a school garden. The school is trying to work on a system of a mentor for each student. They also have parnership with some universities, museums, Botanical garden, slow food and more. My kid is really happy and his teacher is amazing.

Every child is important to the teachers at Lamar Elementary School. Every child is excitedly reaching their potential everyday, and this learning experience is a team effort made by all, students, parents and teachers alike. The teachers present new knowledge as if it is a new experience. The children are continually amazed about how much there is to learn, but what amazes them most is that they are the most important part of it all.
