There are a few gems of teachers. Unfortunately, the ones I have encountered seem uninterested in their charges and how to motivate them or those that ineffectually micromanage them.

Have heard staff told not to model or emphasize polite manners (it is considered rude to expect them to use polite words) or to tell children not to abuse teaching materials or supplies.

They lack compassion. Too much focus on negative behavior and do not know how to redirect childrens behavior. There is a serious lack of classroom management and communication between staff.

While I support different learning styles within a classroom, subs and other teachers are not given notice to be aware of who needs more attention so that one does not walk in cold into the classroom with different expectations. Lack of communication.

I have seen children running away from others who are hitting them while the teacher is texting or chatting with students. It is a common scene.

I rate this school in the negative. In the years I have come in, or spoken with others in the community/neighborhood, my and others views are that those in leadership roles exhibit heavy handedness with students and their staff. Even teachers from other area schools are aware of the Stewarts staffs unprofessional protocols. The comments going around is, No wonder that school got shunted off to the out of state charter company. There is a lot of lip service to being positive. In reality, the atmosphere is heavy with almost nervous tension that comes from the abrupt rudeness from facilitators. They lack finesse and exhibit aggression when they perceive critique or tackling setbacks.

Not able to comment on the homework situation.

Lacking in the most basic of procedures & organization. Encountered several serious issues regarding lack of communication & implementation of procedures regarding children's welfare & safety. Although I have had more than several meetings with them about ways to improve such procedures I have yet to see any improvements. Some mistakes are inevitable & thus not always preventable however in the case this school they are aware improvements need to be but lack organization & motivation to enact such changes. The teachers I must say are friendly & open to communication but unfortunately without results & follow-through it means decidedly less.
