Fights between students are blamed on teachers citing poor classroom management rather than exploring what causes lead to the fight between the students.

I had some good colleagues. They did the best they could. But our instructional coach was not available to use as a resource because the district always had him busy with something else, many times off campus. The principal regularly responded to entreaties for support with threats.

Students do not take administration seriously because they are inconsistent in enforcing disciplinary action when teachers request it. They prohibit teachers from taking certain actions, such as sending a disruptive student out of class, but fail to provide any recourse for what to do with a student who is a danger to themself or others. Students get the message loud and clear: “You can’t really do anything to us.”

September 2018, during morning announcements, the principal berated teachers over the loudspeaker. She said if students were not spending advisory period well, the school was going to close this year. From then on students talked incessantly about what school they would go to instead.

As a former teacher, I had no legal access to worksheets to assign students. I had to either copy them illegally or make them myself. Students would often tear papers up and throw the pieces around the room.
