We have had two kids at St. Pius for multiple years now. It's been a great experience for the kids and us. The children have been scoring above average on the NWEA tests and it appears they are on track to be successful in high school and beyond. One of our children has the opportunity for extra reading tutoring through St. Pius and the NEISD special needs org. The school has a counselor and resources for those who need it. The teachers are great and very caring to ensure the students are progressing and learning in a supportive environment. The teachers have reached out to us directly when appropriate. They also make themselves available through email, text, and in-person when needed. The kids are in a number of extracurricular activities including sports, elective classes (theater, art, mathletes, etc.), market day, volunteer opportunities, and participating in weekly masses (readings, altar serving, etc.). PTC is very active and has monthly spirit nights at local restaurants where families can gather and meet each other and it raises money for the school. The Gala is awesome and so is the Halloween carnival. Different classes get involved in different events around the campus to help support the school. CYO sports for elementary school is very popular and has grown tremendously the last few years. The church is very supportive of the school and is it's biggest mission. There are tons of opportunities for parent involvement at big events but also day-to-day helping around campus, Watch DOGS, etc. The school could use some upgrades in the classroom building but overall the campus is very nice and well maintained. I highly recommend.

There is a reason that staff turnover was so high during the school year.
It is disappointing to witness how SOME parents' attitudes and poor treatment of staff can overshadow the larger goal of creating a nurturing and effective learning environment. The lack of support and respect for educators not only demoralizes the teachers but also sets an unfortunate example for the students who are watching and learning how to engage with their peers and mentors.
It is my sincere hope that St Pius X can address this issue and work towards fostering an environment of collaboration, and genuine support for its teachers and staff.

We were shocked to learn how far behind our children were after transferring to another school, after years of earning high honors at St. Pius! Classroom misbehavior is ignored. Multiple (more than 5?) teachers left suddenly this year. Parents verbally assault each other in the parking lot. There's a handbook to address all of these issues, but it seems to exist simply as a though exercise. If the administration addressed bullying and misbehavior, the school has a lot of potential.

If I can give them 0 star, I will. The teachers there are horrible and no emotional with kids at all, it’s break my heart and they have no patience at all. They won’t listen to them and they expect every kids are the same.

The personnel are friendly and willing to work with the children and parents. There is high, high academics and expectations. Many fun activities balance the academics. Students are ready for high school and beyond.

The girls were not going to gave a softball team were it not for one student who got a petition going. There other similar incidents of leadership that is encouraged amongst the students.

We are coming up on our 1 yr anniversary at SPX and we couldn't be happier. Having come in mid-year we were a little worried about the adjustment, but the students, teachers and administration couldn't have been more welcoming. The academics are challenging but rounded out with wonderful athletics offerings. The Catholic foundation the school has helped to reinforce in my child is priceless!

At St. Pius X, the students are happy and actively demonstrating their Catholic faith. They participate in weekly masses, lead service projects for the entire school, practice virtue education, and are encouraged to develop their talents and share them with the school and church community. Their motto is "Building Leaders for Christ" and this is evident when you walk through the halls of the school.

As a parent of several children whom have attended and are attending St. Pius I have been very pleased with the education they have received. I choose to send my children to a Catholic school primarily for them to be in an environment that parallels our family's morals and beliefs. In a culture that is trying to destroy our Catholic Identity, St. Pius continues to excel at teaching our faith to our children. They are well prepared to enter High School in the core subjects and knowing the true values of our Catholic faith.

As a parent of two middle schoolers attending St. Pius, I have to say that I've been very pleased with the level of care and attention my children have received, along with the depth of educational opportunities. In a profession where the educators are primarily female, it's so important for adolescent boys to have appropriate role models, and in the middle school, my boys have that. The History teacher is a retired military officer, with an adventurous spirit, who views this career path of teaching as both a mission and vocation, is fully invested in both the students and the curriculum, and brings this enthusiasm to the classroom. The other middle school teachers are just as dedicated to the students--as well as the subject matter--and work tirelessly to ensure that every student has the opportunity and the means to succeed. My boys are being prepared both for high school and for life; they are on their way towards becoming young men of character, in part due to their experiences at St. Pius.

I started living in San Antonio 6 years ago. I have 3 young sons. I was blessed to have a private education as a child and teenager. I had them at a difference school which was a horrible experience regardless of the high ratings it has received. My sons have extremely well at St.Pius X. The parents in each class know each other and participate in most events year round. All my sons are doing extremely well in all subjects and each of their teachers are responsive to any concerns. I read the past negative reviews and it seems to be written by same person. Please ignore those reviews. It seems they have a personal problem with someone at the school. In fact St Pius X after an exhausting search is the best school in San Antonio area.

This school encourages well being of the students. They have a "buddy" system where older students help the younger ones. Most importantly the parents are highly involved in the school and the teachers.

For three years we have seen a decline in this once great school. It seems like every year more and more good teachers leave . the senior administration staff seem oblivious to the real needs of the school and families. several families have tried to meet with the principle to express ideas and yet he seems to be uncaring in both thought and faith for the well being of the school. for these reasons we are moving our children to another catholic school we may drive farther but we feel it will be worth it.

I think that this school needs a clean slate. The teachers really need to focus on making EVERYONE feel comfortable---they rarely make eye contact with the parents AT CHURCH no less. It appears that the old timers could care less about what they are teaching or bring or how other catholic schools are evolving-----there is NO innovation here whatsoever!!!!

I was surprised by one of the negative reviews for St. Pius (the one that talked about a public school teacher now at St. Pius). My family's experience at St. Pius has been enhanced by a teacher who came from public school experience - he sets high expectations for the children, believing that a Chrsistian school should meet or even exceed the academic standards of the public schools. The students are expected to give their best and perform all tasks (from turning in homework assignments to participating in those wonderful History Days) and all of this is in the environment of support and care. The leadership of the school is interested in the total development of each child. I sometimes think some parents don't understand the importance and ultimate benefit of students being engaged, participating enthusiastically, and meeting deadlines - and St. Pius instills this kind of connection with its students -- the kind of attitutde we all like to see in schools, in the workplace and in our homes. I would recommend St. Pius to any parrent.

This school is nothing but a private school teaching a common core curriculum; they tried to deny this when confronted by several parents, and they hastily asked their book supplier to change their language on the texts, but in comparing their program with the public option there is no difference whatsoever. We withdrew our child because the teacher was an uncaring product of the public school system from which he came. Our child has actually ended up worse off and we are now home schooling so he can advance to the next grade - Give this school a wide berth, parents.......

It is interesting to read all of the reviews about this school. I have found that there are excellent teachers there. The middle school science teacher is brilliant and I'm still not sure why she is at St. Pius X when she could be making much more money elsewhere. I believe it is her true compassion for the children and belief in rigorous curriculum that will prepare them for high school that motivates her each day. There are a few teachers who I believe are not the best fit but we use this situation to teach our children how to interact in the real world where everybody will not be their best friends. The assistant principal is always willing to help. She is continually available, listens to concerns and finds resolution. My daughter in elementary is encouraged and receives individual attention from people who know her as an individual. I will say that the loss of Ms. Songco was was a tragedy as math is a difficult subject and she had an amazing way with explanation so that students really learned. Ms. Pritchard is missed as a teacher but it is exciting to see that she has moved up to high school and that she is still around as a parent this year.

I feel a need to reply to some of the negative comments (opinions) with facts. The middle school teachers are one of the most talented group of individuals I have seen on any campus. When two of them left this year it was for promotions which they deserved. However, the positions they left were quickly filled with other dedicated and capable teachers. The test results show that our eighth graders were second in Algebra in the Archdiocese. Children get all of the help they need with a Reading Specialist, math tutoring, and a Learning Lab. Learning is supported with IXL math, ABC Mouse, Accelerated Reading, and many educational field trips. The Administration has always responded in a timely manner. Sometimes the answer is "No", but then the explanation and reasoning make perfect sense. No school this size does more. I am very satisfied and recommend St. Pius to everyone.

Yes they are skipping and smiling. I've seen it myself. I'm sorry if St. Pius was not a good fit for you. I hope you find a school that fits you, but please don't be unkind to people who love the school and administration. I've done research and there are families that have had, and still have their children attending this school for over 20 years. I like it at this school and so does my daughter who has her children, my grandchildren, attending. Don't discourage others because it didn't work out for you or make another parent feel bad because she likes what you don't, just move along and keep shopping. St. Pius is the best community and school that could have ever come into our spiritual path. If you like an awesome church, priest and principal, not to mention life long friends, then this is the school for you. If you are the type of parent that thinks you can run the school, then it's probably not a good fit. The principal will listen to GOOD IDEAS but if it's not best for every student, teacher and parent, he probably will thank you for your interest but will keep the intrest of the rest if the community first.

St. Pius X is a wonderful school! My children love going there each and every day. The teaching staff is strong academically, and spiritually. The principal truly cares about the teachers,students, parents, and the entire community. It is a blessing to be a part of St. Pius, and I am so thankful God led my family to this school.

We gave this school a chance and it backfired. Morale is low for parents and teachers. The principal lacks leadership and communication skills. He is sloppy and veiled with school's finances and misleading about its academic achievements. Questions and concerns are either ignored or minimized. When researching this school, make sure to ask about retention rates, teacher credentials, school lunch pricing, fine arts, safety protocols and ITBS testing. Ask to see the school budget and you'll get an excuse about why it is not available. Be prepared for tuition increases and additional fees without warning or explanation. While every school is going to have issues, other schools are offering higher quality programs at a comparable tuition. Do your research.

St Pius X is a fine elementary with a nurturing and competent faculty. Educational standards are above satisfactory and the focus is on providing each child with a solid foundation for academic success. The middle school however is disappointing. The academic standards are not much better than what one might expect in a public school and the teachers do not demonstrate a concerted effort to communicate with all parents equally and appear to favor certain families. It has the potential to offer a much more cohesive and professional environment but lacks leadership. In addition it's focus on the arts is poor if not missing entirely, which is unfortunate for those students that may excel in this area and not sports. It needs new leadership and a fresh perspective. To increase enrollment and become more competitive with other schools, start focusing on nurturing inclusion of all family members treating all children the same based on their unique interests and talents. If your friends with the students parents that's great but don't forget other parents are paying you to educate their child and expect a professional approach that doesn't succumb to nepotism.

Nice campus. Great gym if sports are your most important area. Declining in educational quality. Principal can't keep up with the issues that seem to be worsening. The best kids are leaving. Shop around, there are better Catholic schools in the area that are actually doing a better job. Lots of drama..

Great elementary school, but the worst middle school! Parents and students are wonderful! All of our kids went there through elementary and thoroughly enjoyed it. The teachers and parents seemed to work as partners for the good of the children. Now we're experiencing middle school. Totally disappointed! The teachers are either: (1) incompetent (2) bring baggage from home to school (3) gang up on parents and students for minor infractions. The problem stems from a lack of good hiring practices. Core subjects such as math and science are taught by what seem to be public school rejects who have some sort of connection with the principal, so they're hired on. We're looking at moving our kids to another nearby school which is affiliated with St Pius X, but seems to be doing a better job with middle school. It's a shame since the campus is very nice, especially with the new gym and classrooms.

Wow!!! What a fantastic school, and it's only getting better and better! The new gym is absolutely amazing!! The administration and staff are wonderful, the academics are great, the athletic program and extra curricular activities are growing! I am truly blessed to have my child at St. Pius X. What a difference a year makes. Last year SPX was in turmoil, the ship was sinking, rats were abandoning ship. Discontented parents were running amok & some teachers, now gone, weren t teaching but playing basketball & playing with students. This summer, a dedicated group of staff and members of the community went looking for new leadership. They hit the jackpot . Mr. Deming came in with fresh exciting ideas, a wonderful moral value system & the belief that people should be put into positions where their passions & abilities allow them to blossom. The staff is outstanding & dedicated. The students are happy & challenged. SPX has broken ground & the new gym is coming alive. Hallways buzz, the negative has been replaced with SPX is becoming the example that all other schools should aspire to be. The Core Knowledge curriculum is amazing, new Athletic Director is passionate & has energized students. Making Spanish a core class is great. We considered leaving St. Pius X but made the right decision, it s the best thing we ever didn't do. Discontented families & staff who have left , we wish you well, hope you find happiness at your new schools. We are happy & excited about the future.

What can I say about St. Pius X? It is an amazing school. I have been here for 3 years and on the first day I fell in love with this community. The teachers that are here are always helpful and have a strong Catholic identity. The new teachers that we have received are willing to go above and beyond and want to make this school the best it can be. I have truly enjoyed the Core Knowledge curriculum we teach. The children enjoy it and they learn and retain so much. Every year parents continually tell me that their child comes home telling them so many things that they didn't even know about History or Science topics.
