Academics are subpar. Punishments are cruel and not disclosed to parents. Retaliation towards whistleblowers. Financials are not fully transparent. Art room floods multiple times a year and staff isnt aware for days to get someone to dry it out. Special education is not offered. Students are not challenged or given advanced work or opportunities. Class sizes are at max capacity. Competition is discouraged. Teachers have to teach art and science as no staff for those positions. Technological opportunities for students are out dated. Library is not accessible and fully functional to students. Teachers are not given supplies and equipment to perform their jobs. Disciplinary actions are biased and focused on nepotism.

I went to St. Mary's from k-8, and I truly couldn't imagine my children going anywhere else. I currently (4/2022) have one about to graduate 8th grade, one in pre-k 3 and one who is more than ready to start. There is no better feeling than knowing when we take our boys to school that we do not have to worry about what they are being exposed to or taught. Teachers and staff are always in communication and never hesitant to speak with me whenever I ask, and it really does feel like we are all family, The morals and values that my children are being taught are hands down the best and I know they are being challenged academically, it's a win-win. I love volunteering at the school and being involved as a family. So thankful for Mrs Wyles and everyone here.

As our children finished their fourth year at St. Mary's Catholic School, I have never been happier with the education that are receiving. In a year where online was our new normal the school went above and beyond to ensure my children were engaged and stayed caught up with their school work. When they did slip I was notified immediately by their teachers and they were given ample time to make up or make corrections on their work. Which I was thankful for as it was reinforcing what we as parents are teaching at home, responsibility. It is the student's responsibility especially in middle school to make sure they get work turned in and on time as this is preparing them for middle school. As a parent I am thankful their teachers and I are a team and we work together to ensure my kids success. So many parents blame a school when if they would work with the teachers and not against the teachers and also, realize kids are kids and they have to be held accountable then their success would be so much more if they would become a team with the faculty.

Some things I feel need to be addressed from a previous review -" online schooling was pitiful",. our experience was just the opposite as the teachers kept me informed via phone calls and emails if my children were not completing their work as stated above. Also, if you ask any teacher who teach in both the private and public sector they will all tell you that online schooling was challenging for all but with parents that worked with the school and teachers it worked great.

Safety concerns - there was only one lockdown this year and it was toward the end of the school year as there was a situation near the school, several blocks away and the school resource officer deemed it necessary to place the school in a lockdown for their safety as it was getting towards dismissal time. The children, faculty and staff were never in danger as Mrs. Wyles (principal) was in constant contact with parents throughout the situation that lasted only 7 minutes long.

St. Mary's is a safe school and again if you look at other schools in the area, both private and public you will see that every school as been in a lockdown or had a safety issue. I have no issue sending my children to St. Mary's as I know they are considered family and are protected as so.

I could go on and on about St. Mary's but until you step foot inside the building you won't know what it is really about and it is the most amazing school!

Unsafe neighborhood (2 hard lockdowns over the last month and a school staff member was wounded by gunfire in the leg in a previous lockdown before the most recent lockdowns). Teacher churn rate is really high. Curriculum isn't that challenging (or at least not as much as the school makes it out to be, more homework doesn't mean the curriculum is more challenging), and several families leave this school every year. Their virtual learning program during the pandemic was pitiful...etc. I'm my kids out in favor of an average local public school system over continuing with this "parochial school"

This principal actually placed a teacher in the school who had a record of misconduct and a license taken away. She didnt tell parents. She also bullied and humiliated two other teachers. Both were liked by the kids but one was very popular. They ended up leaving. Shes been belligerent and dismissive with parents. One family was told to find another school. The school needs to find a new principal.

The families are great but the schools reputation has slumped. More than a dozen families left last year. Staff cuts next year will send good teachers out the door. The principals dictatorial style and poor judgement are to blame. We pray for change.

We had an excellent experience at St. Marys Catholic School. Both of my children went to St. Marys and now they are excelling in their studies, and I am very pleased with the education they received at St. Marys. All the teachers are highly qualified and most of them have more than 10 years experience in the subject taught. St. Marys teaches the students to think for themselves, and not just to take a test. Administration, teachers, and office staff work tiresly to give the best education, and educate the whole child. They work with learning differences, and they take the time to truly care about all their students learning needs. Im very thankful we made the decision to send our children to St. Marys Catholic School.

When my daughter started the school it was better than 2018-2019. The teacher turnover is incredibly high. When good teachers start, they leave. I feel that some of the teachers are not equipped with knowledge to teach the subjects. I feel that the one of the math class is severely lacking. St. Marys is one of the only faith based schools in the area so parents are limited to where they send their children. The office staff seems to disorganized. Middle school especially 8th grade is supposed to get children ready for high school. However this is not the case. I think if students do not go to Holy Trinity, they are set up for failure. Overall some of the teachers are well liked, but well liked does not translate into good teacher. The neighborhood that the school is in is sketchy and feels unsafe. The school practices hard lock downs, but the children are not told how important these practices are.

After decades of teaching in public schools, I have decided to spend my final years at St. Marys Catholic School in Temple Texas, a decision I have never regretted. I consider a recent post to be unfair and I am taking this opportunity to explain why.

Fallacy #1:The attrition rate is high. The person who wrote this did not do his/her research, for St. Marys attrition rate is below the state or national average for private schools. Teachers frequently leave private schools for many reasons and two primary reasons are relocation and a desire for better pay. Both of these are beyond the control of the administration. If we were paid the same salary as public schools the tuition would have to be raised.

Fallacy #2: All the good teachers have left St. Marys. As one of the teachers who has elected to remain, I take umbrage at that. I have years of experience and training, I care deeply about my students, and my students are very successful. I feel safe in saying that this goes for all my colleagues. I know them and their work well and have a great respect for all of them, so much so that I convinced my daughter to send my grandson here.

Fallacy #3:Teachers are leaving because of the administration. Again, not true. St Marys has many teachers who have been here, happily, for years. Most of those that did leave left for personal reasons, not because of something the principal or other administrator did.

The success of St. Marys students, by the way, extends even beyond the building itself. The following is taken from the last newsletter:
Saturday we competed in PSIA in Seguin. Over 600 students attended from 6 schools in Austin and the surrounding area. Our students entered 73 events and placed (1st through 6th) in 49 of these (68%). Fifteen (20%) will advance to the State Competition at Texas Christian University (TCU) on May 4th. And..... we won 3rd place overall for our elementary entries and 2nd place overall for our middle school entries. Our trophies will be on display as you walk in the front door of the school.

In summary, St. Marys is a wonderful place to be, both as a teacher and a student.

We were enrolled for many years, and this school does not follow the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. The example of the administration does not set an example of Catholic values. If you bring up the issue of Catholic values that are conflicting with current school issues, the example thrown at you is "Glass houses".

There does not seem to be a continuum of curriculum from one grade to the next. Teachers appear to be left up to finding or making up their own curriculum. The principal did not appear to have knowledge of what the curriculum should be in order to guide teachers to effectively implement their lessons and ensure students were learning all the concepts necessary.

Overall, we were very disappointed during our time at St. Mary's School. One reason to choose a private school is to receive a quality education in a healthy environment. We did not find either of those at St. Mary's.

Homework was sent home weeks after it was done in class and we were asked to finish what was not finished. There were no literacy books sent home for reading.

The teacher had little awareness of what our child was experiencing in the classroom. Our child was clearly having difficulty with the environment and the teacher dismissed this as normal elementary school behaviors. Our child was sick with 102+ fevers twice in the time at St. Mary's and the teacher was never even aware that our child was feeling ill. The teacher was not able to differentiate instruction from student to student and there was no time for small group instruction. All instruction was whole group which is not effective in identifying those students who require assistance with learning concepts and may be struggling with learning.

My family had to leave the school recently due to circumstances that are just not improving. Many teachers seem unhappy and there is such a high turnover rate of teachers. My son had a very bad experience last school year and he is now very far behind his peers in the public school. Take caution when considering this school. The principal has her own agenda and anyone who questions that is asked to leave.

Our family is so very thankful for St. Marys. Small class sizes and caring teachers facilitate a structured, positive learning environment true to the mission of Catholic school education. The majority of the faculty have been there for years, providing consistency for the children. We have enjoyed the strong and positive leadership of our principal. There is no other school we would send our children. The families are close-knit. Such a huge difference compared to public schools! Great teachers, great principal, great values, fantastic school.

The students are valued as individuals, and we work tirelessly to ensure their social and educational development. As a current parent of SMCS the principal has been so amazing with not only my children but to the teachers and staff. She goes above and beyond to make sure our children are getting the quality Catholic education by leading the school with her example. The teachers at SMCS are amazing, with the incorporation of block scheduling this year, the teachers have a longer period to make sure students are understanding the work in the classroom and can also get the necessary one on one time if needed with the student. Teachers at SMCS also go above and beyond if a student is falling behind or having difficulties with an assignment. I have personally witnessed many of the teachers staying after school for tutoring. They have also come in early to accomodate a students (parents) schedule. My child has been so blessed to have so many of her teachers ready at any time to help.

As a current parent of children at St. Mary's the quality of education that my children are getting goes above my expectations daily. From the incorporation of block scheduling this year that has been such a positive enhancement at St. Mary's Catholic School. I can say in all confidence my child's grades in Middle School have never been better and I truly believe that the improvement in grades is all to the success of block scheduling and the addition to the curriculum support. The teachers at SMCS always go above and beyond with educating our children. Teachers at St. Mary's also know how my children learn which is a huge improvement with them coming from public school which at the school they were at the classrooms were over crowded and we were also dealing with several bullying issues which in turn caused their education was suffer. It is a blessing to know at St. Mary's there isn't a bullying issue. Also with smaller class sizes my children are thriving in their education. After meeting with the principal who was so encouraging that my children would get a quality education at St. Mary's that made all the difference in the transition for my children. Another plus about St. Mary's is that the school does not teach to take the STAAR test which coming from public was such an added bonus and in this day and age children need a strong education foundation to prepare them for high school and beyond. I know in my heart my children are getting this foundation at St. Mary's Catholic School and as a parent I thank God for Him everyday for bringing this amazing school into our life.

My child has been going to St. Mary's for 3 years. She and I have loved every minute of it. Despite the changes that have gone on, all have proven to be the best for my child. It is terrible to see that 1 out of so many think so negative of the school. There are transitions in all schools, public and private. The fact that I am paying money for my child to get a quality education, which my child is, should mean something. Otherwise it would be a waste of money. My grandparents, immigrants, made the sacrifice to send their 3 children here. Then my mother with 5 children did the same. Now with my 2 sons, I follow in their footsteps. The educational and spiritual foundation that SMCS gave me has helped me over the years. St. Mary's Catholic School is my home to me and my children.

The faculty and staff give it their all every day and for that, I am truly grateful and blessed to be able to send my children here. Even with my older son who has some learning disabilities has thrived and doing well at Holy Trinity Catholic High School. I believe that St. Mary's Catholic School helped build his confidence, gave him a good education and the best foundation.

Teacher turnover is unbelievable, good teachers cant stand the environment and leave. New hires dont have proper background checks. St Marys is a school that has it priorities straight. Put God first and everything else falls into place. The kids a prepaid for high school when they get there. The teachers take the time to ensure that no children is left behind. My kids are happy and safe and come home in a frame of mind that is respectful and happy. The teachers we have encountered are kind, caring, nurturing and fair. They truly care about developing the students mind and soul, and hey work hard to provide meaningful learning and service experiences. We love St. Marys and are so glad to be able to send our children there. The school community is warm and welcoming. The teachers truly care for the students, and the curriculum is up to date. I love that the students have opportunities to serve others in the community, and their educators is grounded in Christian values. After struggling for years to foster a positive school experience for my son at his public school, I was at my wits end. He is an intelligent child (in the gifted program) and wants to do well; however, he hated school and couldn't handle the inconsistent discipline enforcement at public school. He frequently got in trouble and would ask me why he was so "bad."
Fortunately, God opened some doors for us at the beginning of this school year, and I was able to send him to St. Mary's. I do not think there has been a day this year when he has not answered the question, "How was your day at school?" with a positive response. He even tells me sometimes out of the blue, "Thanks for sending me to St. Mary's, Mom." Although he has dyslexia, he has been reading books that are two grade levels ahead and actually enjoys writing. I truly believe the atmosphere created by the faculty and staff at St. Mary's has allowed my son the freedom to be himself... and he finally realizes that he is not a "bad" kid.

This is our second year at this school. The teachers are patient and kind and the principal is a good listener and proactive. You can tell how loved the students are by each staff member. BIG difference in both my children who attend. Academics is wonderful and I cannot imagine my children anywhere else.

My son has been at St Marys for the past two years. He was in a large public school and was excelling academically, but he was not being instructed past basic curriculum. My husband and I had a sense that he was being lost in the crowd. So, we decided to enroll in St Marys. We are so thankful we did! The teachers at St Marys have not only taught him the basics, but keep him engaged to expand his knowledge. In addition to the curriculum, as early as first grade, students can participate in PSIA. The school also has a strong focus on serving in the Temple/Belton community. This gives the children the chance to work beside each other to recognize the needs of others in their community.
There is strong parent and administration communication at St Marys. It is common for me to see my childs teacher each day at pick up. The principal is also very visual at the school. Her door is always open. Each week there is a school wide newsletter to keep parents informed of what is coming up at the school.
I appreciate St Marys and all the hard work the teachers and administration do for the students. They are enriching them academically and spiritually.

Both of my kids have started at St. Mary's in the past 6 months and they are flourishing! St. Mary's took my son in when he could not stay at another school due to his behavior problems and have been very supportive and loving and he has made great friends. We love St. Mary's! Not only do the children get a great academic education, but they are counseled spiritually and emotionally. The students are encouraged to get involved not only at the school level but also the community. We drive by many other good schools every morning but this school is worth it. My daughter began St Mary's Catholic school in the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year. I must say, this is a GREAT school with GREAT staff. I love it and wish it went up to the 9th grade. Starting with the principal Mrs. WYLES; the woman is AWESOME! She is compassionate, considerate, impartial, passionate, practical, sincere, professional, etc.

With a great principal comes great teachers. My daughter often tells me how much he adores all of her teachers because they are "nice."

Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend St. Mary's Catholic school located in Temple, Texas to anyone who is in search of their child(ren) receiving a quality education from well trained/experienced professionals.

We transferred from another catholic school in the area after struggling the previous school year for various reasons. The moment we came to St. Mary's we felt like family. Every effort was made to make us feel welcomed and loved.

Within 2 weeks of my child's current teacher working with him, she felt that outside resources from Temple ISD could test him for possibly identifying learning challenges she felt he may be facing. This was handled expeditiously and within days we received a call from Temple ISD. We've determined his teacher is a God send!

It's a beautiful school. The administration has an open door policy (literally, the principals doorway faces the hall and I have never seen it closed!). All of the staff are very professional!

The food is to die for! Many fresh healthy options to choose from. I am always teasing my son that he eats better than us!

They have recently fenced in the entire property and it feels very secure for the children playing and the school itself. The gym is phenomenal. I'm sure it's nicer than any gym you will find in any elementary school. I love that he gets plenty of recess and PE time every day.

I also want to include Music (he loves his music teacher! he is learning the recorder) He also has Spanish class which he enjoys as well. I'm sure I forgetting something...

When I asked my son about going to public school he explains to me that he will not go because " they don't have Jesus in public school and I wants Jesus 7 days a week!" Amen!

We love St. Mary's. As an Army Family we move often and this is our 7th grader's 4th Catholic school. We are impressed with the caring and nurturing environment. The staff is very warm and inviting, went to tour with my 4yr old son. He loved it and cannot wait to start next year. This school just feels like family. Beautiful buildings and a great deal of SPACE!!

The teachers are very caring and provide a positive learning experience for the students. The teachers work directly with the children to make sure no one gets left behind.

The students have homework and are expected to complete it. The teachers also realize that the students do volunteer hours and church activities so they don't over load them with homework. They do a lot of class work so the teachers are watching and making sure the students are comprehending what is being taught.

I am very pleased that the school is teaching the students that if it is worth having it is worth working hard for. The students are learning to respect others as well as respecting themselves. God is a very important part of their school days as well as their every day lives. The students are always being challenged to do their best and work hard. I like the fact that they wear uniforms, that way they can focus on learning and not what someone else is wearing. The teachers are working hard to provide a positive and challenging education for the students. I love the one on one attention that the smaller classes can provide for the students.

God is the center of our school! We have an amazing Priest and Principal who keep the bar high when it comes to honesty and integrity. Problems arise anywhere, even in Christian environments. The difference is, it is addressed immediately and reinforced!

LOVE OUR SCHOOL!! Our kids get to have God at the center of everyday! The blessings and lessons that our kids get everyday extend far beyond helping them individually....it helps us at home AND in our community as well. Our academics are top notch with many added programs this year including Accelerated Reading program, Abydos Writing and many other electives like guitar, AG, drama, and the list goes on. Our school also offers athletic programs ... football, volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, soccer, golf. We have Science Fair, PSIA, Spelling Bee, etc..... so both academic and athletic competitions. We really have it all no matter what you are looking for or what is important to your child. Band starts in the 4th grade!! That is unheard of in public school. Our children still learn cursive which has been taken out of public school. Our kids also take Spanish starting in 2nd grade! Sorry, I am on a roll. The more I think, the more I have to add about our amazing school!

St. Mary's is a wonderful school. Our principal is excellent and has made some very positive changes in the school this year that are working well. I couldn't ask for a more engaging and caring group of teachers at the middle school level. I am thankful for small class sizes and an extra time each morning that the kids are talking about bullying and other social issues. I feel these are important topics and I'm thankful that they can address these in a small group from a christian perspective. I also like that at St. Mary's kids can be involved in most all extracurricular activities and sports that they want to try. Overall, I feel my son is getting an excellent, well rounded education at St. Mary's. There is a family atmosphere and feeling here that I haven't found anywhere else.

At the middle school level, they have homework during the week, and an optional study hall period where they can work on their homework with a teacher available for questions if they need it. The teachers do not give homework on the weekends as they believe this is a time for family, again reinforcing the belief in a well rounded student.

St. Mary's is an Excellent choice! We love that our children are held to a higher standard. We love the family feel here! The new Principal has put several new policies into place that are working very well. All the new Technology that she has added is great. We also love that our kids go to mass once a week and adoration on first Fridays. We have been here since 2008 and it has been a beautiful and faith filled experience. Every month there are fun family events that warms my heart. This is the best choice in the Central Texas Area!

In response to the comment posted on October 22, I realize everyone has the right to express their own opinion. With all do respect, I have to say that's exactly what the post on the 22nd is..opinion. The facts are another matter entirely. Our new principal has focused on making technology a priority at St. Mary's by initiating obtaining ipads for the classrooms along with obtaining other equipment to get the school completely up to date on technology. She has made technology a core class for Junior High students with a certified technology teacher. The other facts are that she has added more recess time into our children's school day, she and our new Priest started the Blessing of the Animals Mass for St. Francis Day, she now allows athletes to wear their jerseys on game days, she and Father have started family mass days once a month at most Catholic Churches in Temple and Belton AND most importantly has given the students ownership and responsibility by allowing them to name the school newspaper (which she brought back this year), participate in writing the articles for the paper and naming the Falcon mascot. School spirit and identity are back!

This school has gone through a lot of changes in our short time here. I do not and would not recommend this school at this time. I would say give it a few years to see if the new principal is a good fit. So far, there are a lot of frustrations with what she is focused on and has taken much of the fun out for the kids. This school is better than the Temple schools, but does not seem to be better than the Belton elementary or junior high schools. The art program is not a selling point and technology is non-existent.

After fourteen years of being involved with this school, I have seen it go through both highs and lows. But a true Christian spirit has remained through it all. The students are consistently well-behaved and kind. I have seen so many students of this school grow into amazing adults. The dedication adn involvement of the parents is amazing. I believe the school is currently in great hands for the future with the recent change in leadership. I am happy that my children attended St. Mary's and I would highly recommend this school to anyone looking for a positive family atmosphere, solid academics, many extracurricular activities.

St. Mary's has been great for our family. We have met so many wonderful people and made lifelong friends. They have lots of fun family oriented events. It is nice to see the same children year after year and truly get to see them grow up together. Faculty and staff are knowledgeable and welcoming. My children love religion class, which makes me very happy. The children are challenged to do their best and they excel academically.

My child is currently attending her 4th year at St. Mary's Catholic School. We LOVE it! The small but largely supportive family that is St. Mary's has made such a difference in our lives. Mrs.Wyles' strong foundation emphasizing the importance of faith, family and friendship, along with the amazing teachers and staff, has motivated the students to not only excel academically but also to be Christ like leaders in our community.
