Wonderful school. Our children are surrounded by loving staff who are engaging, supportive, motivated and know our children so well. Their academic offering is really excellent, they have fantastic facilities, and our kids are being raised in a faith-based environment that shows them love, respect and gratitude. St Lukes offers a rigorous, faith based academic education that prepares students for high school and beyond. Our daughter was blessed to be a part of the St Lukes community from PreK-8th grade. During her time at St Lukes she developed a love for learning, life and friendships.

SLES has play the most amazing role in shaping our daughter. She attended St Lukes PK3-8th grade and is prepared socially and emotionally to continue her educational journey through high school. She has a strong foundation of faith and is a confident and resilient young person, achieving both in the classroom and on the sports field. I have all 3 of my children at Saint Lukes- two in elementary and one in middle school. It has been a place that has become so special to my family and I will tell you why:

- my children are exceptionally well known. The teachers in other grades, the administrators, and the lunch lady all know my children by name. That is rare and special.

- I know that they are getting an incredible my well rounded education because I see them becoming confident, collaborative, and wise humans outside of the classroom- thats how I know whats working inside of the classroom.

- the community is warm, enveloping, and accepting. I felt immediately engaged and continue with the value of engaging and welcoming new families.

I would recommend this school to any parent looking for a place where their child is known and cared for- because when those two things happen, they learn!

My kids are thrilled to go to school every day at St. Luke's and are clearly becoming life-long learners. We love the whole child approach that St. Luke's offers. Our kids are excelling academically, socially, and in extracurricular activities. We moved to San Antonio three years ago and the community of parents, teachers, and staff have all been very supportive and inclusive.

Many teachers have left and I hope they don't teach anywhere. The school is very small tight community. It is extremely difficult for newcomers. Most of the kids here have been together since Pre K and aren't interested in making new friends. The parents bully as much as the kids. I would really think twice before choosing this school. The education is above average but Im not sure if it warrants the price tag.

The teachers do not fit the child into a curriculum. They work extra hard to make sure the curriculum is situated around the child and the classroom. They know the children and their families and treat them as their own. The sense of family is not lost on the teachers at St. Luke's.

There probably are not enough words to convey the strength of the St. Luke's message about raising good and kind leaders, citizens, and scholars. The children are led by example and are surrounded with opportunities to grow and learn by adhering to those values. From chapel time to classroom time to outdoor learning activities, St. Luke's strongly promotes and lives by the character traits they encompass.

The attributes of strong leaders are evident throughout the school. Not only does the school possess a head of school, but there are leaders for segments of the school, as in early childhood, middle, and upper school. This makes communication easier for parents and more manageable all around.

While we do not have direct experience with this type of situation, I can gather that the teachers would be in the best position to adapt and modify the curriculum to best suit the needs of the child to the best of their ability.

St. Luke's is a unique place, where each student in known and loved as an individual. The rigorous academics combined combined with a nurturing environment fosters faithful and confident kiddos. I believe a few of their teachers have served there for over 30 years. Despite comments made on this, I've never witnessed any social experimentation. Tom McLaughlin guides his staff and parents with his +- 25 years of HOS experience. The best way to see what's happening at St. Luke's is go to the campus and tour. That's all you have to do to recognize the qualities of the experience. Then you make your own decision.

St Lukes has lost over 100 students since Tom McLaughlin joined as Head of School 3 years ago. The self reported 350-enrollment figure is sorely out dated. Many families, including ours, left due to academic and social experimentation. There is little to no academic tracking in middle school anymore because its viewed as labeling and there were numerous occasions we saw classroom work pace and homework reduced to the lowest common denominator. Have more conservative values? Expect to be either cajoled by Tom McLaughlin, Head of School, or dismissed and told that your view is simply an opinion and that if an issue doesnt bother him then its not a problem. The business world would not tolerate a management team that consistently shed customers over successive years resulting in losing 1/3 of the student body.

The middle school at St. Luke's is exceptional. Over the weekend my daughter was working on a math assignment. During her issues with the problems she emailed her teacher that she was having some trouble. Her teacher emailed her back within thirty minutes on a Sunday afternoon with some feedback on how to move forward with the project. I can't imagine that all middle schoolers are able to have this kind of interaction with their teachers especially on a weekend!

The school has protected citizens and an uneven discipline policy. We had a known behavior issue in a grade level. One kid rotated through the boys and picked whose turn it was to belittle that week (or successive weeks). On occasion, he rallied a few peers to publicly exclude a kid by getting everybody to leave a lunch table as soon a particular kid sat down. A number of parents brought this to the administrations attention multiple times but nothing ever changed from year to year. Of course, it was well known this childs family contributed large sums to the school's annual fund.

The school has a reading specialist (not learning) and, this year, a math specialist who teaches in the middle school. The school does not have the expertise to test, diagnose or develop an IEP.

The politically correct culture thrives at St Lukes. As long as your family shares the exact same values as the administration then everything is fine. Dont expect to pay $19,000 for a Christian environment and get any type of protection from age inappropriate over sharing and a seedy popular culture.

For the most part, the teachers are very well intentioned educators however there are situations where the classes are simply too small and offer a poor learning dynamic. St Lukes continues to utilize a standardized test not recognized by peer schools, which means we did not become aware of any deficiencies until it was time to transfer.

The homework load is uneven from year to year. Some years, not much assigned and other years it was piled on 3-4 days a week. I could never figure out why the homework expectations were so inconsistent.

The schools enrollment dropped by over 100 kids since Tom McLaughlin joined 3 years ago and enrollment sits at 230 students. A St Lukes parent/school board member claimed this Great Schools website months ago and yet the enrollment data presented is totally inaccurate. The school site monitor tends to remove negative commentary so read it until the school censures.

We as PARENTS also benefit from these characteristics at the school as well. We are invited to attend daily chapel with our kids and when I do, it just gets my day started right-I know my kids have the same benefit. I also find that my kids really care about their peers. It's very loving

We get updates from them often, and they are always available to answer questions. Starting in 4th grade, they have office hours, so that students can get their homework done and questions answered right after school if they choose to.

It's not the type of homework I had when I was a young student. The kids are always writing original poetry or preparing for declamations, where they memorize and recite poems, etc. in front of large groups. They seem to really enjoy researching the various things they are working on, whether it is a geography project or the election process. Singapore Math has also been impressive.

I am the father of two current students with another starting next year. Our family has been at SLES for 5 years now, and we've been really pleased with the education our kids are getting. They are happy about school and about learning, and we've really enjoyed getting to know the other families as well.

Service projects and chapel discussions remind students to really think about how their actions affect other people, and the St. Luke's Way seems to really influence their outlook. Kids are courteous, cooperative, and kind. I love to meet all of my kids' friends from school, because they are just genuinely nice little people.

The teachers send home a monthly "snapshot" communicating each student's progress both academically and in terms of social/emotional growth. Class sizes are small, so each student gets a great deal of individual attention. Most importantly, I think each child feels loved and recognized. it's a very happy place!

I've been really pleased with the quality of the homework this year. The teachers spent an extra week of in-service before the school year started, and you can tell by the quality of the curriculum. The projects are wonderful. I haven't seen any busy work, and my kids have both been genuinely excited by and interested in the things they bring home.

Because of the intimate nature of the school, parents are immediately notified when there is a disagreement between students, and the school works with everyone involved to immediately rectify the problem so that it doesn't escalate into a bullying situation. It's been clear to me as a parent that love is the governing principle as administration and teachers guide my kids forward.

SLES has both a full-time reading specialist and a full-time math specialist. They have really enhanced the experience for kids on both ends of the learning spectrum by providing extra help for kids who need it, and providing extra challenges for students who desire more advanced work.

This is our 5th year at St. Lukes. We have 2 children attending. We couldn't be more happy with this school for many reasons. It's a happy, uplifting, and positive community that is welcoming and perfect for our family. The administration and teachers care a great deal for my children, and I am confident they are in the best hands for their education and well-being. They are provided challenging academics and embraced with loving christian influences. Proud my children get to be raised in the St. Luke's way.

St. Luke's really focuses on teaching the whole child to be a better scholar, leader and citizen in a loving, Christian environment. We love that every teacher and staff member knows our child's name and focuses the curriculum on how our child learns best. Our children are happy to go to school each and everyday. My son attended 6-8th grades at St. Luke's. He was challenged academically and well-prepared to enter high school. He made great friends playing soccer and in clubs. The faculty knew him by name and understood his unique gifts. They both challenged him and cared about him. It was a great experience.

Small class sizes really help teachers understand the unique gifts and challenges of each individual student. Faculty and administrators go out of their way to work help students who have unique learning styles and needs. The faculty are incredibly dedicated to their students.

Tom McLaughlin, Head of School, is a passionate educator and a highly organized and visionary leader. He personally knows each student by name and greets them at morning carpool. I felt that the amount of homework, projects, and assignments struck a good balance. Between traditional assignments, science fair project, language vocabulary, etc., my son was challenged but not overburdened by the amount of homework given.

We moved our daughter from public school in the Alamo Heights ISD to SLES five years ago and haven't regretted the decision. Even though the curriculum is accelerated, she is thriving with the small classroom size and the creative approaches to teaching. This is a great school for children with all kinds of learning styles, as the teachers make a big effort to utilize hands on learning, game oriented computer based reinforcement of ideas, and team projects that are actually fun, in addition to the more traditional approaches. The other great thing about this school is that the children are actually very kind to each other and there is a family feeling within the grades. We are so happy that we found SLES!

SLES is a very special school. Nestled in a safe, beautiful church campus it offers individualized attention, a traditional challenging curriculum, teachers that love their job, administration that are innovative, intelligent, wise and approachable, the most friendly student body I've ever seen and families that are kind, accepting and supportive. The one thing that stands out above all else is that each kid is seen as a gift and there are no perceived "problem kids." All kids have their own challenges and the school culture promotes meeting kids where they are and addressing challenges lovingly, directly with a goal of inclusion and reconciliation. It's a fabulous place that strives to help kids find their full potential.

I have two kids at SLES, with my oldest entering his 5th year. I work in the field of education, and can say without any reservation that my bright and curious kids are challenged academically and loved unconditionally. They have learned so much about what it means to be a good citizen, a kind friend, and an empathetic listener, and their confidence has blossomed. The art that they bring home is beautiful and the reading program has turned both of them into avid readers. We feel so lucky to have them at St. Luke's, and confident that they will be exceedingly well-prepared for whichever high school they choose.

Academics are average. Culture of bullying and social cliques based on wealth is pervasive. Aggressive progressive agenda at the expense of those more culturally conservative. Quite expensive for the quality of the educational offerings.

This is the first school that I do not feel I have to supplement my children's education.The curriculum is very competitive. My children seem to be very engaged in their school work. Every morning my children are excited to go to school. The choir is great. The after school activities are great. The lunches are covered in tuition. This school provides after school "office hours" which provide any child extra assistance for classwork. This is at no extra charge.What I have noticed that true sets this school apart from others is that while every school talks of teaching autonomy, this school actually does. If you are looking to enhance leadership qualities in your child, this school will be a real nice fit for you.

Excellent school. We have had an incredible experience in PreK3. Our son loves it and is learning so much. Our parent teacher conference was the most thoughtful experience we have had of this kind. The teacher was very prepared and offered very insightful observations about our son. Five stars!

St. Luke's Episcopal school is a wonderful place. They teach kids from a young age to love Jesus, education, and community. They teach children to respect themselves and other people and their children have impeccable manners. The previous post about the headmaster couldn't be further from the truth. I am not sure how someone could have a negative opinion of the brand new headmaster just weeks after he aquired his new role. Especially when the review was dated before the school year started. Thomas Mcgloughlin is of high moral standards, ethical, and he cares the world of the children he oversees.

I have two young children at St. Luke's and couldn't be happier with the excellent balance of rigorous academics, character development and leadership. The school is preparing students not only to successfully compete in the 21st century but to thrive thru community engagement, a tolerant faith and a lifelong love of learning. The school is implementing a 1:1 laptop program this year for grades 5-8 that will be the first of its kind in the city. There are other good private school options in San Antonio but if character, kindness and tolerance for others are as important to you as academics, then St. Luke's is far and away the best choice.
