I would rate my experience at this school fairly average. The teachers and office workers are wonderful people who will do the best they can for your child. However, the school has issues with bullying, effectiveness, and has no program for students with learning disabilities. There has been issues with admin with paperwork, though that is easily fixed, if someone were to put extra effort into it. The environment is one of faith, though to hear some students talk, you wouldn't think so. Safety is another concern; there has been incidents with crimes brought over from across the street (ie drugs) though they have been contained fairly efficiently. There is certainly hope for this school.

Some of the homework received was useful, while other homework was simply busy work, which the students DO NOT need. They are busy enough as it is.

The teachers care about there students, and only wish the best for them. There have been experiences that contradict this, of course, but the current teaching staff shows lots of love.

The students with leaving disabilities simply have to try to keep up; there is no program in place to assist them, and very little teachers can do to help without being reprimanded for "slowing the others down". At the same time, there are no AP courses for those who are fast, but don't want the stress duel enrollment brings.

Students have had many issues with bullying, and are often told to suck it up; the few times admin has gotten involved, the matter worsened.

I was blessed to teach at this school and have my children attend this school and I cannot express accurately how wonderful the administration is, from both perspectives as a staff memeber and as a parent! This school is small enough to be personal and caring and large enough to offer team sports. It is a gem in Killeen to be sure!

As you can read from the previous comment, the writer is a disgruntled employee ("from an insider"). How sad that someone claiming to be a Christian (a requirement to work at MCA) would disobey Biblical principles and disparage their fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Lift your fellow Christians up in prayer. Do everything as unto the Lord. Be it all joy. Come for a tour and see for yourself what MCA is all about.

From an insider, this school has really gone down the tubes. The new administrator, Bebe Carpenter, has replaced Memorial's superior Abeka system with common core and fired all the dissenting teachers. Teachers with high Terranova scores were let go because they voiced reservations about common core, and ones with low scores were retained simply because they "fell in line". The end result is severely lowered standards. Parents are being duped, as they are paying for the equivalent of public education (or worse) that they could be getting for free.

Although there are several teachers trying their best, the atmosphere in the school is no longer what one would expect of a Christian education. Bullying is rampant, there is no discipline in the classroom, teachers have little authority and are not backed by the new administration. The problem for the last 3 years has been bad, unethical leadership, and many parents have jumped ship. Stay well away.

As an educator myself, I strongly feel the teachers go through countless hours of training to better assist them in making a great learning environment both in and outside the classroom.

Both teacher and staff are just an amazing group of people. Being an educator myself, I am constantly looking for schools with the best learning environments both in and outside the classroom as well as superior state testing scores.
As soon as you step in the door you feel the warmth and how each teacher seems eager to help each student reach their maximum potential.

There is a lack of consistency in discipline. There is a strongly worded policy that details expected behaviors for students, staff, and parents. However, it is not enforced for all. If a student is popular or friends with staff, they get a pass. This creates a hostile learning environment for the kids they choose as targets for bullying. Additionally, some (not all) staff members lack professionalism and integrity when dealing with students and their parents. The unwritten motto is, "if a parent questions something or voices a concern, attack the parent. Never admit you were wrong or address the issue." If the child is voicing concern, tell them to grow a spine and stop whining. Then continue to ignore the problem.

Had a great curriculum. Some really good teachers, who truly cared about the students. However, the unchecked bullying that is allowed creates a hostile learning environment for many. Parental involvement is encouraged, only if they deem you worthy. Some staff members will bully, lie, attack and avoid the parent, if ever questioned about issues in their classroom, and/or curriculum issues.

The school has a new administrator who has already made changes to the curriculum to bring it in line with the public schools and has fired all but one of the elementary teachers. What is stated on the website as curriculum used, will not be true of the upcoming year(s). None of this was revealed to the parents at the end of the prior school year. For a school that professes Christian values, there is much ungodly behavior taking place.

Many kids are leaving for other schools. Ask yourself why...

Really depends on the teacher. Some were great, but in all honesty it was a teacher's behavior this past year that was the final straw for us.

The administrator is not a good man. He took over a few years ago and while the school did become accredited it's due to the dedication of many not just him. He is an ungodly man and he is disliked by staff and students alike.

The teachers in general below 8th are good, above that there are inappropriate things happening from grades being given and even inappropriate conversations between students and teachers.

MCA is a wonderful school. They help students of all types achieve greater academic standing. The loving and nurturing environment encourages children to learn and the small class sizes encourage student involvement. Parent involvement is spectacular and the PTO actively raises funds for renovations, special programs, and fun activities. MCA is an extension of our family. We love MCA!

There are some ungodly things going on in this school. I have been involved with this school for two years and have been very unhappy especially the leadership. If you are looking for a real Christian environment this is not the place at all.

Memorial Christian Academy has been a blessing to our student and family. We are natives of Killeen and had always been involved with the public school system. We prayed for another option as our older children were in public school. At that time there was no accredited private school. One day as I was praying over my child as I dropped them off at school, God spoke to me about inquiring about MCA. I got to work and called, MCA was not accredited nor did they go through 12th grade at the time but I knew the strong pull that God wanted us to make a move from the negative influence of public education. We toured, enrolled and continued to pray. MCA has now become an accredited school and is now celebrating its second graduating senior class! God is so good and faithful to those who seek his direction. MCA is a positive learning environment where staff strives to help develop a strong foundation of Christian education. Students are able to build Christian relationships as they prepare to become independent adults defending their faith. Thank you MCA for all you have done and continue to do!

Memorial Christian Academy has been absolutely great for our daughter and family. I personally know most of the staff and they deeply care for the students and do all that they can to solve any problem. I don't see how anyone can say anything bad about the staff or the school. This is the first educational institution that I've experienced where parental involvement is discouraged unless is involves fundraising for the school . Parent/teacher conferences was not encouraged and communication to parents lacking. When we initially attending MCA we were told by others about the school lack of ability to admit fault even in the face of wrong doing and sadly the rumors rang true. In fact, we found the students were often blamed and called liars in order to remove fault from the teachers and school administration. This is not the type of christian environment we envisioned for our children where twisting of the truth in the school /house of God is so easily expressed. Those who dare challenge their indiscretions are called harassers and instructed to find other educational institution of learning for their child. If a teacher violates the rulebook, parents are told that no faults was found, but if a parent questions a staff on an academic rule, an email is generated to parents on what will not be tolerated. if you are a parent involve in the type of education their child receives, this is not the school for you.

My child attended this school for 2 school years. The curriculum is advanced compared to the local public schools and my child ended up skipping a grade when he went back to public schools once we moved. The teachers are caring though there are a few that could use some lessons is grammar especially those that speak English as a second language. I think if you can get the better teachers, then your experience will be 5 star.

The overall school is great. It is better than the alternative, going to public schools here. The academic program is advanced which is great for getting your children ready for their future. The only issues thus far since having our children in the school is in certain areas. Our children have not had much teacher involvement minus what's offered during the day, and when trying to have parent/teacher involvement it is quite difficult unless you want to communicate via email in which we don't like to address our children on a non personal basis. There has been issues with bullying in which we were told was a zero tolerance for. As parents, we can not be with our child 24/7 or we would to protect them, and we were hoping this school would help eliminate bullying and harrassement or correct it. Our children are happier being out of the public schools but they struggle with teacher involvment. At public school, although overcrowded, etc..the teachers did take time to calmly, softly, non judgementaly address each situation. And there was never judgement placed upon anyone. Overall, it's a positive environment and our children love having GOD being a part of their learning experinces.

Awesome school! This is my daughters 2nd year and she loves it! I had to take her out of public school because no teachers would take their time with her. Every single teacher here works together and is involved with the students. And they encourage parent involvement. I could not have asked for a better school that also invovles christian learning. Although we will be moving we hope to find another school like this one. Thank you MCA!

The people at this school make all the difference! The teachers are great, the staff is wonderful and the principal is man of God. There is a suprising amount of extras for a small school. I wish we could return.. we're hoping for Ft. Hood again!

We were are Memorial Christian Academy for 4 years and we loved it. They have a lot to offer at this school including sports for students in Elementary school through high school, theater, music and many more extra- curricular activities. The teachers and staff are wonderful and work very hard to give their students the education and biblical principals that you would expect. Their academics are challenging, and give the students a advantage above the rest. My four kids will never forget the foundation that was instilled at MCA. The military has moved us to another state, but we will take all that we learned to our new school. Thanks MCA
