I started off as a parent over 18 years ago (have 2 graduates and one entering high school) and loved it so much I decided to join the staff over 15 years ago! This school offers great academics (even on level courses are high level- vs. AP classes). This school does a great job at supporting and growing students academically and intentional character building across campus and all grade levels. In lower school, they build foundations and memorize. In middle school, they start to think logically and by high school they are able to have deeper conversations in subjects. The relationships and activities across grade levels are intentional (as all students are on one campus). The academics are strong. The electives and sports are small enough where there is more equal opportunity. Our school wide events and grade level events have stood the test of time (they still have the time-honored 'Camp Watermelon' from when my oldest 1st grade to when my youngest over 12 years ago). This speaks to tradition and investing in children.

We had a very disappointing experience at Hill Country Christian School. My son struggled to stay engaged and focused, and instead of working with us as parents, the principal, Tracy, took it upon herself to intervene in ways that crossed boundaries. After I had specifically told her I would speak with both the teacher and my sons pediatrician, she removed my son from class and told him directly that he needed to see a doctor for his behavior. When I picked him up, he was crying and asking, Whats wrong with me, Mom? No child should be put in that position, and that conversation should never have been had with him that was my responsibility as his parent.

This was not an isolated incident. I had emails to teachers go unanswered, and overall the partnership we expected from a private school simply was not there. Since leaving, Ive learned that other families have had similar experiences, where the principal seemed to push an ADHD diagnosis despite disagreement from teachers and parents. In our case, both my sons third- and fourth-grade teachers at HCCS and his pediatrician did not believe he had ADHD.

When my son transferred mid-year into public school, the difference was night and day. His new teacher said he was incredibly bright, just likely bored, and he immediately began thriving. He made straight As, came home happy, and was excited to return to school each day. The contrast showed me that the problem was not with my son but with the way he was being handled at HCCS.

We expected much better from a private institution, but sadly, our experience was one of disappointment, lack of communication, and a principal who placed her opinion above parents, teachers, and even doctors.

For me, It is a great privilege to be a teacher at Hill Country Christian School. The best part of my job is the main part of my job: the people. Our faculty and staff are excellent at their work, making daily routines fun and smooth. Parents are supportive and encouraging, interested in what happens in the classroom and on the field. The students are not your typical students. Our students are always amazing us with their growth, ability to face challenges and rigor, deepening of heart, and development of "secret" strengths and skills. Nothing and no one is perfect at HillCo, but it's the rubbing against shoulders, "iron sharpening Iron" (inside and outside of the classroom) that is precious here. Christian education is not a competition; it is the construction of community, the spurring on of growth in one another, and Hill Country Christian School's community is inspiring from the bottom to the top. Lord willing, I'll be here for many more years.

As a new family at Hill Country Christian School of Austin, we've been so impressed with how welcoming and organized the school is. The faculty and staff are incredibly friendly, and it's clear that the students are not only happy but also thriving in their learning. The school fosters a strong sense of community, with parents actively involved, and offers plenty of opportunities for both students and parents to engage in activities, clubs, sports, and events, or just as much as you'd like.

What really stands out to us is the school's commitment to a classical Christian education. Every lesson is grounded in biblical truths, while also providing a solid foundation in liberal arts and STEM, helping to develop well-rounded students. Hill Country encourages students to find their voices, participate in meaningful conversations, and prepares them to become future leaders who will carry the gospel into the world. We've also heard that many graduates go on to attend excellent colleges, which reassures us that this school truly cares about preparing our children for success in life. Sending our student here has been one of the best decisions we have made as parents. The academics are rigorous, and expectations for behavior is very high. This allows children to learn and teachers to teach as opposed to managing behaviors during class. Parental involvement is very much encouraged in the primary grades but as students grow and learn, there is more focus on student independence. Our student has learned to think critically, confidently speak in front of others, defend her faith, participate in multiple activities, given leadership opportunities, and access to teacher and staff who know her and whom she can confide. If you are just looking to escape public schools without really committing to the financial obligations or student behavior and academic expectations then it may not be a good fit. Education isnt a bandaid, you need to have the mindset that its a long game going in. Eleven years in and Im thankful we did!

Attend this school only if:
- You want to pay for an environment that is not welcoming or loving (the opposite of Christ-like)
- You want to be stuck with a tuition bill if you find that it is not a good fit for your child. (That's like taking a gamble on ~$16,000, other private schools do not force you to pay for the rest of the year's tuition if you leave)
- You do not believe children should be children (Kids cannot talk for a large portion of lunch, hours of homework,)
- You enjoy homeschooling your child in the evening for a couple of hours (why am I paying someone to teach my child if I have to teach them myself?)

Please look elsewhere when looking at private Christian schools. I should have listened to the advice from fellow parents who told me not to enroll my child here. The school is not driven by good intentions but rather by money. One of the biggest reasons we choose a private school for our child is because public schools treat every child like a number. This school is WORSE than a public school. Public schools get funded by having a child in attendance. Hill Country gets funded even if you unenroll your child from the school. Their tuition policy is to collect the rest of the year's tuition even if you unenroll. Therefore, they do not need to or care to provide an environment that allows all children to succeed. They get paid whether your child is there or not. Private school student-to-teacher ratios are usually better than public school ratios. Look again, the ratios in many of the classes are higher. Furthermore, the education level they provide is purely based on memorization. These children are programmed to memorize a history timeline. They can tell you an event and the date it happened but they couldn't tell you what the event was about. They have the children memorizing large bible verses (which I support) except that the children can not tell you what the verse even means! Knowing the meaning of something is much more important than just memorizing some words. Best of luck in your private school search, you can mark this one off the list.

My daughter has been at Hill Country since Kindergarten and will be going into the 7th grade next year. We have truly loved every teacher that she has had. Hill Country is intentional about knowing your child. Throughout our daughters elementary days we were always greeted with a smile and a "Good morning Grace." I always wondered how on earth they could remember her sand all of the kids so well, and that is when I realized how genuine and intentional they truly are about getting to know your child and that gave me comfort as a parent.

One of the best things about going into middle school was that they offered 6th grade sports, which is not offered everywhere. This opened the door to ease her into middle school life and she found that she loves Volleyball and hopes to continue throughout High School. The coaches are amazing and teach your child to compete and do their best with the love of Christ.

We want our daughter to grow up with a strong faith based background throughout school and feel that we are getting that at Hill Country. We have not been disappointed. I would highly recommend Hill Country to anyone looking for great academics, a wonderful sense of community and people that genuinely love your child.

We can't say enough wonderful things about Hill Country. We made the decision to send our kids there the Fall of 2020 (pre-K & 1st grade) in the midst of the pandemic. Like many people, we were desperately desiring a stable, nurturing environment with a conservative and biblical education for our children in a world that provides the opposite. We knew we would like it, but we were overwhelmed by the love, care, and instruction our children were given from the beginning. The teachers truly know my children and they love them. The classical education model is top notch and has challenged my kids to think critically and take everything to the next level. The Gospel is at the center of everything they do at Hill Country - including discipline and correction. The community of families has become our community overnight. We have made lifelong relationships and could not be more grateful for this wonderful place! Highly recommend to anyone looking for these things I listed above.

When our son was ready for kindergarten, we reviewed many schools and ultimately chose Hill Country Christian School because of the Christ-centered education focus and the feeling of home & community. It is a decision we continue to be grateful we made. He has benefited from strong academics, the opportunity to increase his confidence and public speaking abilities through the annual speech meet, and the ability to participate in other competitions such as Math Olympics, Art Festival, and the Regional Science Fair.

In addition to the academics, we truly appreciate the genuine love and care that all teachers, principals, and other school personnel show for each and every student. They all seem to know the kids by name, genuinely care for them and their education, and are truly devoted to the mission of the school. As the school matures, we have seen academics expand, new programs in STEM and athletics introduced, and we are excited for the years to come.

Our decision to come to and stay at Hill Country Christian School has been especially validated during the COVID-19 shutdown and remote learning period. The school and teachers have done an amazing job providing an organized and high-level learning experience including weekly teacher-led live sessions and detailed lesson plans for the week to include not only core subjects but specials as well. Very impressive!

As we transition to Middle School in the Fall, we could not be happier and look forward to all the new and exciting things to come.

Our family joined the Hill Country Christian School community this past school year. We were immediately welcomed into the community by parents, teachers and staff. We have been blown away by the love that the faculty and staff have for our children. The curriculum is well rounded and includes a different special every day. They do an amazing job at integrating the Bible into every subject. Our children have grown in character, integrity and academics since starting at Hill Country.

I regret having my children at this school for 2 years for so many reasons that there is not enough space for me write all of my complaints. Please do not look at the reviews that are encouraged to be written. Look at the worst reviews first that have been written over the years. Please pay attention to those before letting your child attend this school.

Many concerns raised in past reviews were valid at one point. But over time the school listened to these complaints and made changes. For example, parents complained about the previous Lower School Principal. Well, she left over a year ago. Parents complained about the Headmaster. He left in Spring 2016. Parents had valid concerns about bullying that were chronically dismissed (mainly due to the policies of the previous Lower School Principal who, as I mentioned above, left over a year ago). The school handled these complaints by replacing the Lower School Principal and hiring a full-time Counselor. The Counselor created a zero tolerance anti-bullying policy in 2014. You can submit a confidential bullying report to the Counselor, and meet with her for help. The "Matthew 18" policy used in the past is no longer in effect. The Counselor meets with parents/individual students, and mediates between students. Some complain about a promised Upper School campus that has yet to materialize. Well, the school actually purchased land in 2015 and have plans to start construction soon. Parents have complained about the homework load. These complaints were heard. The homework load (specifically in Lower School) is significantly less than it was 2-3 years ago. Basically, many of the complaints posted to this review site pertain to a version of HCCS that no longer exists. My child has been at this school for 4 years, and I've never heard of a "Dean of Discipline" or a "Mr. M". It would be helpful if people posted concerns that are up to date. Staff and students come and go over time. Even reviews left 2-3 years ago do not reflect what the school is like right now. I do think more policies need to be in place regarding how teachers are expected to respond to bullying complaints. There are some teachers who take bullying complaints very seriously. If your child has one of these teachers, you can bet the situation will be handled. But then there are teachers who handle complaints with a very dismissive attitude. I suspect these teachers are the reason why the school is getting negative reviews in regards to bullying. Parents and students should be able to expect the same standard of behavior regardless of which teacher their student is assigned to each school year. Finally, some negative reviews are posted by the same person, over and over. Your writing style gives you away.

The teachers in Upperschool are incredibly effective, maybe they could go a little lighter on the homework but great one on one time with your student. In lower school they just made the transition to Singapore math, with not stellar results. Teachers try their best, but can only teach as good as the material chosen for them.

Here I am, a graduated student and the question seems to be, "What's the real deal with Hill Country Christian school of Austin?" I attended all 4 years of high school at HillCo and had my younger siblings attend various lower school grades as well. Is the bullying in lower school (k-8) a real issue? Absolutely! Children are children and we all grew up hearing naughty words, seeing kids shoved around and the teacher coming in to save the day. But there's little to no punishment for delinquent or misbehaving kids. The daily special is always a slap on the wrist and a prayer. Although there is a system for dealing with misbehaving children, it seems like the teachers themselves are afraid of sending a child to the Dean Of Discipline's Office. Don't get me wrong, the Dean is a tough guy, but from the tears on my sibling's face, none of the bullies were going to see him! What you see is teachers more afraid of their 4th-6th grade students! Regarding the Upper school, previously Mr. M... was both the principal and headmaster for the entire school. Now it seems with the addition of an Upper school principal the high school and Main school are two separate entities. The upper school teachers are what you really want in a private school education. Kind, firm, and always helpful, these teachers are the salt of the earth and continue to assist your child after they graduate! (Sometimes I need a little math help, okay?) Non-existent musical dept. Great theater dept. If your kid doesn't like Yearbook Sports, or Theater then there's nothing to do. The sports program for all sports aside from football are phenomenal. Not to make it seem like the football program is bad (its actually quite terrific, stellar, and incredibly succesful) it just seems that the conditioning and muscle therapy is non-existent. In any given season only 70% of the team is healthy enough to play, the others are recovering from a variety of injuries (some incredibly serious). All in all, I think that the lower school deserves a 69% overall score. And the upper school deserves an 88% (genuinely consider it for high school).

P.S. They've been promising a new building now for 5 years. If you think your highschooler is going to learn anywhere but portables... think again.

My answer is very simple: My child went there for two years and I know better. No, they do not promote honesty, integrity, or fairness. In fact, what they promote is a sense that if you are a son/ daughter of a teacher or staff, or your parents are large donors, than you're good to go. You can do anything you want and get away with it. And I've seen it MANY times; this was NOT a one time deal.

The GREATEST asset of this school in my experience: the teachers. The average class size is also a major plus! The general environment is "fun" in the lower grades. The parents are very clique-ish which sadly carries over to the children and does not represent the school's intended values. The academics are average compared to 2 other schools we've attended, judging by amount of homework, curriculum, as well as my childrens' information retention and standardized test scores.

We are a new family, but feel like the school is definitely headed in the right direction. Our children have been welcomed by friends and teachers alike. This is not a perfect school, but my experience is that the commitment to academics, athletics, fine arts, and spiritual growth is right where it should be. We did have some challenges with homework, but the school addressed those concerns immediately. We have been very pleased.

It is difficult to put into words how valuable the education is at HCCSA, as the tangible is taught through a biblical world view by the most committed and qualified administrators that I have ever been around, and the intangible benefits and outcomes are endless. My kids are learning at a very high level for their age (8th & 10th), are being challenged on daily basis to strive for excellence, and are encouraged to do it for reasons bigger than themselves.....to impact the world around them for the Glory of God. In addition to the educational benefits, my family enjoys being part of an amazing community where we interact daily with our student's peers, their teachers, the school administrators, and coaches to fulfill the common goal of being known, and loved.

The reason we send our kids to Hill Country is because our kids are challenged in important areas of their lives while also being deeply cared for. We are a community, partnering together, to bring out the best in each student. This is a challenging academic environment but students are motivated because it is also a relational environment. We have been at the school since kindergarten and have seen many changes over the years. The administration really listens to parents and makes appropriate changes to accomodate healthy feedback and growth of the school. I completely trust that my children will be prepared for college and life upon graduation.

The only reason for giving an entire one star is that the Lower School principal is FINALLY on the way out. I hope then that opens the door for the Headmaster to exit as well. Until the leadership tactics of favoring the the annual fund donors and ignoring bullying and discipline problems change, Hill Country will not grow in terms of enrollment. Check the numbers and abysmal standardized test scores before re-enrolling - see what the net gain in students has been in the past few years ... Yes, HCCSA has had new students come in, but many others have left for valid reasons.

Hill Country Christian is a key partner in our hopes to develop our children into Christ-seeking, problem-solving leaders, and the school has exceeded our expectations. The school has top-notch teachers who truly love the children and seek ways to challenge them while guiding them spiritually. We are impressed with the school's ability to teach to a wide range of skill sets among the students. They constantly tell us that all students learn differently and that is their mission to find the right way to teach each child. I have tremendous faith that our investment at this school will pay off as I see the young leaders that our children are turning into. As a result, I expect our children to attend excellent colleges in the future, probably with significant scholarship money based on their experience at HCCSA.

My family has been at Hill Country for seven years and there isn't enough space on this website to express what a blessing it has been for our children. My children have excelled academically, socially, and spiritually at this school. They are confident and able to speak in front of their peers without giving it a second thought thanks to the training and leadership opportunities they have been given over the years plus the support and encouragement from their teachers. My kids feel very accepted here for who they are and how God made them and feel loved and known by their teachers. I'm really confused by all the comments on here that people with money get treated differently. We do not have money, we barely make ends meet with both parents working, we only give a small amount per year (under $100) to the annual fund and we can't afford to go to the Spring events, yet I have NEVER been treated any differently nor have my children. I personally am very thankful for the "rich" people that come to Hill Country because if they are generous and give to the annual fund then my children get to benefit from their giving!!! In my opinion, it's a win/win for my family!

We recently went to enroll our child in this school. We were coming from a very high rated private school where our child had done exceptionally well. His overall GPA was 3.56, and he was considered to be one of the easiest students in his grade level to deal with. He had had absolutely NO discipline issues al his years there. The only issue had been his standardized test scores which were in the 55%. This was primarily due to test anxiety. We were told by Hill Country that he did not meet their standards, and therefore he would not be able to attend. Even the school he was coming from was surprised by their decision. Since that time I have been told that Hill Country can be a little discriminatory which is what we found to be the case. Almost immediately after that he was admitted to another Christian school nearby with no problems. They were actually thrilled to get him after talking to his previous school.

My kids have gone to the school for several years, and my family has had a great experience with academics, the teachers, the staff, and other families. I have seen some of the negative reviews on this site, and I think people should know that most if not all of them were written by one disgruntled person I know who left the school a couple of years ago. This person keeps getting different email addresses over a couple of years to write these anonymous negative reviews, and that makes me sad. I am sorry that you are allowing bitterness to rule in you. You were unhappy with the school you went to before this one, you were unhappy here, and I'm guessing you are unhappy at your new school. I hope that you can learn to let go of your anger at some point, for your sake and for the sake of your child. That's no way to live. For others who are looking for a school for your child, Hill Country is a great choice where your child will be known and loved and won't just be a number or a standardized test score. It is a financial sacrifice for my family, but I believe it has been worth it. I know this is the right place for my kids and I am thankful God brought us to HCCS.

If your child is caucasian, conservative, pretends to love God and baby Jesus this is the school for you! If you or your child does not align with the prior description, it's ok....parents and teachers will pray that you and your child will someday appreciate and know God's grace. The pros: Speech Meet - an opportunity to really understand the nuances of public speaking at a young age. Good, solid math, literature and reading curriculum. They have a school wide strategy for teaching grammar, history, reading and math. The cons: A good dose of hypocrisy daily...from teachers to parents. Bullying and inappropriate practices from the younger boys (elementary school) are addressed but never really mitigated. Parents have established cliques and do not handle diversity well. They seem more interested in showing others how they can praise God versus practicing Jesus's teachings.

Capricious, Duplicitous, and Revenue Driven. That is how I would describe the administration and leadership at this school. I stumbled onto this site today as I was searching for a new school for our children. Although there are positive reviews posted below, our experience at HCCSA aligns to the many negative reviews that have recently been posted. As a departing family from this school, we have experienced numerous issues that cause us to question the foundation of HCCSA's belief statements. The bottom line experience for us is that this school does not truly care about the well being of its students and we are leaving this school heartbroken. We have spent endless hours trying to make this school work for our family, but we receive no reciprocal response from the staff or administration. Their focus is purely on organic growth and not on a Christ-centered environment that values relationships, grace, and excellence in education. If you want your child to be a number that contributes to HCCSA's growth plan, without any commitment that they will actually receive a first class Chris-centered education and experience, then this is your school.

We are leaving the school this year after 3 years of waiting and praying for change. We have seen the school take on behavior problems and bullies and pass off their issues to our kids, telling our kids to simply "model good behavior" and pray that the kids will eventually come around without real consequences. IT'S NOT WORKING! People are really disgusted with this method and it caused a mass exodus last year and another this year. The enrollment last year was stable because new students kept numbers EQUAL but growth was minimal. I wonder if the same will happen this year. We were also very disappointed in the standardized testing scores and the lack of explanations for the dismal scores and the fact that it appears that our kids can memorize but not synthesize information. Other schools use the AR point systems as a mandatory tool, but HCCSA doesn't - there is not reading comprehension REQUIREMENT. The critical thinking component at this school is lacking at both the student, administrative and PARENT level here. Unless you're a big donor ... If you're a person of privilege, then you're good. Enjoy the Kool-aid, Knights!

We decided to enroll in HCCS after a very traumatic experience in public school. We have been very pleased by the commitment to our children's education, spiritual journey, and self confidence. Our children are excited about their experience here and so are we. Some reviews bring up concern about bullying, declined quality, annual fund and elite groups. No community is free from bullying not even a Christ centered community. However, the teachers are easy to communicate with and the parents have been supportive in conflict resolution. The kids become more confident. The quality of their education is apparent in my children's growth. My children come home with a serving heart, great self-esteem & a passion for Christ and learning. As for the Annual Fund ,they don't pressure you to contribute nor do they suggest a contribution amount. You will not have a scarlet letter for not participating in the annual fund as some reviews have made it seem. The families here have been great. The teachers are great. HCCS provides a great foundation for our children and we see our children blossom everyday. That's priceless and worth pouring into positively! Proud to be a HCCS family!

Hill Country has been a blessing to our children. The school offers a challenge in a Christian environment, and both of our children have thrived in this setting. Teachers approach children with a variety of methods to accommodate different learning styles, and the administration has been responsive to parental feedback. I am confident that our children are better prepared for college than their peers from other schools largely because they have been taught to study and have developed the discipline to achieve their academic goals. It is also ingratiating to have teachers affirm Godly values. We have not regretted our decision to put both kids into school there. In response to the assertion that it has become a school of privilege, I don't see it. If money made the difference in influence, then I would be first one out. On the contrary, I see the parents as a community who huddles together when an individual goes through a trying time - thankfully for me.

Our kids have been at HCCSA since kindergarten, and as we have progressed into high school, we have noticed a steady decline in the quality of the education and a lack of sincerity by the administration. HCCSA has turned into a school of privilege. If you have $$ to donate, and the administration recognizes you as a top contributor in the annual fund, you and your kids are supported by the administration and the trustees. If you do not, then you are noticeably ostracized and left feeling as second class members of the HCCSA community. In addition, we have also noticed a dramatic change in how discipline is handled at HCCSA. If your child is in the privileged tier, then they can do whatever they want without regard to their impact to other students. If your child is not in the privileged tier and has any issues, they are dealt with by staff and administration that are cold, arbitrary, spiteful, and in many ways, degrading to your child. It is obvious to me why there are so many bullies in this school: they learn from the administration that they are entitled to treat others as viciously and as cruelly as they want without any repercussion.

I have 3 kids attending this school since pre-k. HCCSA is very strong academically and places a very high emphasis on Christian character development. Every teacher and staff member we have encountered has been a strong faithful Christan willing to pray for and come along side our kids. It's rare to find a private Christian school that succeeds so well in both academics and spiritual areas. The social and extra curricular activities are great with lots of diverse options. The patent network is very socially active. It's like a big family. The administration and faculty do a top notch job of communicating with parents.

Hill Country Christian School has been a blessing to our family for 12 years. The quality of education is excellent. The love of the teachers and administrators for every student is evident on a daily basis. They know the students by name even if they have never personally taught that student. The leadership skills, character, and biblical worldview our kids have developed are invaluable. My kids have been taught how to think for themselves, how to actively engage their minds, and how to evaluate and analyze information rather than just how to regurgitate memorized facts. Students at this school are being prepared very effectively to transition successfully into college and life beyond college.

Our experience has not been positive the last 2 years. We have been here for 5 years. The size of the school has outgrown the capacity and skill of the admistration. They do accept kids with behavior issues and difficulties and it is part of their mission. However, I am ultimately paying for my child to get an education that is better than what we would receive in public school. Public school actually handles the behavior (bullying, boundary issues, etc) better than than HCCSA because they are trained and have staffing for such occassions. Raising the concerns, not over how the issues are handled, but the lack of changes in behavior after "being handled" will be met with defensiveness, ridicule and arogance no matter how far up the admistration/church oversears you take your concerns. We have now spent 2 summers in tutoring, just to get to grade level - in addition to yearly tuition. Both summers it has been clear that it is not a learning issue, but an issue of not being taught (quote from the tutor). I am not willing to sacrifice my children's education (that I am paying for) so that other parents can turn the training/discipline of their children over to the "Christian school".

Well, this is interesting. My review, left this past June, is mysteriously missing. It wasn't good, but there are worse still on here. No language or anything like that, so where is it? Hmmmm. Well, I will just say this: we were here for a few years and I have to say, I agree with MANY of the things said in two previous posts from June 11th and May 20th 2013. Think long and hard before you enroll here. It's not all they make it out to be. Don't be dazzled by the tour and all the hype. You will be disappointed, and you can do better for the same or less tuition money.

On behalf of the school s administration, I appreciate the opportunity to comment upon reviews left at this site. We realize that no school is a fit for every student and no school is a perfect place. We welcome the appropriate sharing of opinion and periodically read the reviews so that we may learn and grow from legitimate feedback. Unfortunately, online review forums also allow individuals to launch personal attacks under the cover of anonymity. As a school, we prefer to resolve conflicts utilizing the biblical principle put forth in Matthew 18:15-19. While that is not possible in this case, we would like to address misinformation put forth in a couple of earlier reviews. The number one priority for our school is to provide a Christ-centered, Classical, college-preparatory education that prepares students to become future leaders for Christ. Our priority is not to increase enrollment. Our recent growth is the result of very high retention rates and a record number of applications, which are two indications of a quality school. We do not accept all applicants and regularly deny admission to a large number of students whom we do not feel are a good fit academically or behaviorally for our school. We do not tolerate bullying and have clear policies in place to deal with behavior issues as they occur. At times, parents who do not have all of the facts may disagree with our application of discipline policies. That is unfortunate, but we strive for fair and consistent application of the policies for the entire student body and cannot adjust policies to please the few. We are committed to being accessible to as many families as possible through our tuition assistance program that historically awards needs- based financial aid to approximately 20% of our student body. The school s administration has never falsely created or seeded reviews on this website. We do have a number of reviews that were posted during a brief time period when we shared information about GreatSchools.org with our school community and encouraged parents to go to the site to rate their experiences with Hill Country. We did not in any way coerce reviews or know what parents would say. I would assume that many parents promptly went to this site, and that is why a number of our reviews occur during a narrow time period. Each year we conduct parent surveys to provide an additional opportunity for feedback, and the vast majority of our parents rate that they are pleased or very pleased with their experience at Hill Country Christian School. We think that these ratings, plus our re-enrollment rate of roughly 90% this year, demonstrate that parents and students are pleased with the education they are receiving at Hill Country. Our 3 children have all been enrolled at Hill Country Christian School since they started school. Our oldest will graduate soon. We have been privileged to walk with the school through both challenging and exciting times, and we would have our children no where else. We have found that the school is attentive to the safety and security of the students, and real issues with bullying are addressed commandingly. One of the things we value most is the school's commitment to KNOW our children and partner with us to see them grow in their relationships with God and man. At every level, from teachers to administrators, school employees invest themselves fully in not just academic development, but spiritual and emotional development as well. Hill Country does an amazing job of responding to the individual needs of the learners as well as the corporate learning environment. Thankfully, the school does not insist that all learners or families fit into one particular mold in order to be accepted here. If you are looking for a school environment that is a community of learners, parents, educators, and administrators who work together, this is the place for your family.

If you are able to contribute thousands of dollars for the Booster Club or the Annual Fund in exchange for special "insider treatment" then this is your place. If you have to voice a complaint about something and want to be ignored, this is your place. If you have a child who is a bully or highly disruptive, this is your place. If you want your child to memorize reams of useless history facts instead of learning valuable writing and critical thinking skills, this is your place. We thought we were the only family with issues at Hill Country this year! There is a strict rule about talking to anyone about your issues with the school, so imagine my surprise to come to this website and see that we aren't alone! Over time,we have seen a decline in education our children received, from the change from Saxon to Singapore Math that involves no skills reviews and the ridiculous amount of rote memory things that fly right out of their brains after each test. Also, the bullying situation at this school is completely out of hand. Mean girls, mean MOMS and out of control kids are creating real problems for this school, including families leaving. Ask the hard questions before enrolling.

Our kid is in their fifth year at Hill Country We definitely recommend this school! I have watched a wonderful transformation of this school over the past few years. Our high school kid feels very comfortable interacting with the staff. There are different academic curriculum tracks. The Learning Center is offered for kids needing extra help academically or a GATE program for kids that needs to be challenged a bit more. The homework load always seemed appropriate (study hall is offered for upper school). The opportunity to play multiple sports has been nice (coaching staff is great). The guidance counselor is there for your kid! She is knowledgeable about the college process and eager to sit with you. Other activities include academic clubs, drama, fencing, a music conservatory and FCA just to name a few. Our kid is very involved in school both academic and athletic activities. Even with this being the case, we still have time for church, family, and community service. I feel it is important to say that this, or any other school, is not Utopia. Hill Country is though a wonderful school where your kid can get a great classical education with Christ-like values.

We have been part of the Hill Country School of Austin (HCCSA) family for the past 9 years and can confidently say that HCCSA s admirable emphasis on education with Jesus Christ fully integrated in every part of the curriculum, has been a blessing for our girls. Hill Country Christian School of Austin is an amazing place. The teachers are committed to the education and training of each student. They do not abandon the students but embrace and support them.The teachers incorporate practical biblical principles into the daily lesson so the children learn to include God in every task and activity. Hill Country Christian School of Austin supported my family while my wife was deployed in Iraq. The administration has a dedicated staff with high standards and relentless work ethics My wife and I searched for the perfect school. HCCS has been a perfect fit for our family. The learning center and experienced diagnostician are rare assets. Having a son with ADHD this program has been very helpful for him. HCCS sports program creates opportunities for all to participate.Our children are 1st and 2nd graders and are die-hard Knight fan.We know our children are being taught to do everything in excellence for God's glory and to never leave a Knight behind or alone. Our daughter has attended HCCSA for five years since Kindergarten, and our son is in Kindergarten at the school and has attended the Pre-K program here. When our daughter was in preschool , we researched various private schools and private Christian schools hoping to find an academically rigorous school that promoted Christian values. HCCSA has fulfilled them both! We have been extremely happy with the level of education they are receiving. The staff and teachers are absolutely wonderful! The teachers are very nurturing and they do a great job teaching academics as well as helping them grow in character. Our children love going to school everyday and absolutely love their teachers!

We've had children at the school for 13 years. At first I was content that my children were getting an education at a Christian private school to help reinforce the morals we were raising our children to have. Over the years, I began to understand the value of the classical education. I began to see that Hill Country Christian School didn't just instill good morals in my children. It also didn't merely teach my children to memorize information in order to pass a state mandated test. Most importantly, Hill Country tought my children how to think. How to use and build upon the gifts God has given them and be prepared for life.

HCCSA has provided my child with a nurturing and supportive learning environment. Above all, the school and it's faculty are providing a spiritual belief system from which he will draw his core values and continue his quest for knowledge and faith. We have no question that HCCSA will provide our son with not only an education standard that will prepare him more than adequately for life and it's many challenges, but most importantly the knowledge and spiritual gifts for a compassionate, well balanced individual within a society that is need of more and more individuals possessing these qualities. We have been at Hill Country four years and are very pleased with the school. Our kids are able to participate in multiple sports and activities, something which would not be possible at a public school. Our kids are able to develop great relationships with their teachers and coaches who feed into their lives both educationally and spiritually.

We have had children at Hill Country now for 7 years and have been very pleased with the outstanding education our children are receiving. Not only is the academic curriculum strong and challenging, but our children are learning about Christ and how to "see God" in all aspects of learning. We love that the school is our partner in raising up our children in the way they should go. The teachers truly care about the students--they do an excellent job of teaching as well as helping them grow in character and Christ-likeness. We also love how the teachers get to know the children so well that they are intentional and prayerful about recommending which class each child is placed in the following year. I am currently a student in the 5th grade, and I've been attending since Kindergarten. Our school is very advanced in academics, my teachers and principal are fair. It is very easy to have fun here. New students don't have to be afraid on the first day because others are very welcoming. There is a wide range of personality from athletic to artists and anywhere in between, so it is very easy to find your own circle of friends. There is also a boys 5th-6th grade flag football team so you get the chance to have fun competing for your school. I get to take guitar lessons at the school conservatory, too. If you are looking for a school, this is the place to choose.

Our family has had one or more of our children attending Hill Country Christian School for 10 years now. OUr son began attending in Kindergarten and is now a freshman. Our daughters have each been in attendance since Kindergarten as well and are now in 6th and 4th grade. We have been very pleased with the school and feel very blessed to be part of such a great community of people. The academics are rigorous, and yet they manage to keep things balanced remarkably well. The quality of teachers is superb, and the staff is always friendly and helpful. We love that our kids are each known by name and that we know almost all of the teachers and staff at a personal level. We also love that they are allowed to openly talk about God and He is integrated into all aspects of learning.

HCCSA has exceeded our expectations since our children joined the school. Our son has attended HCCSA for five years since Kindergarten, and our daughter just started attending Kindergarten this year. Our hope was to find an academically rigorous school that promoted Christian values, and HCCSA has met those needs. Our children are thriving in the school environment, that is challenging but not overly burdensome. Our kids still have time for other activities, like athletics and scouts, and rarely have to stay up late for their work. On a personal note, I am inspired the school's vision, which is a product of the HCB church. Not only is the school inspiring our children to model Christ, but the school community and values are inspiring us as a family to model Christ as well.

We just moved here from another city and the staff at Hill Country have been Great! They gave us an awesome Tour, introduced us to staff and made us feel very welcome. Our questions have always been answered. Our Child loves to go to Hill Country. We have even started attending Church there. We couldn't ask for a better school for our child!

We are so pleased with HCCSA and the way the teachers and staff care for, teach, and mentor our children. The curriculum is fantastic--it teaches them to think for themselves, form their own opinions about this world and God's Kingdom, and is challenging them / preparing them for college. The teachers are very intentional about nourishing the heart and developing character at every turn, beginning in Kindergarten. They not only 'teach' academics (which they do extremely well), but also genuinely care about / for our children. The teachers partner exceptionally well with the parents too. Our kids are definitely experiencing a Christ-centered education at HCCSA--my wife and I are so blessed to be able to partner with the school in educating our kids, and have watched them grow both spiritually and academically.

Hillcountry Christian School of Austin is a superior school in every area!! The classical Christian education is way above par compared to other private Christian schools in Austin. We had our daughter in Regents at Austin and transferred to Hillcountry and found that Hillcountry was a year farther in academics than Regents! The administration has a "heart" for each student and they instill Christian character not only by teaching it to the students, but also by living it! I would highly recommend Hillcountry Christian School!!!

We have been at Hill Country Christian a total of 10 years. In fact, we moved back to Austin because of the school and coaches. There is no place we would rather have our son attend and learn to not only be smart in the worldly sense, but to also have a heart for God. HCCSA has been an incredible blessing to our family. We appreciate the challenging (yet manageable) classical curriculum, but what matters most is the impact that the school has had on the hearts of our 3 daughters. The teachers and staff have genuine walks with the Lord, and our kids have "caught" that. They have been loved on by teachers who pray for them before school and in class, they've been cared for by a school nurse that knows everyone's name, and they have been led by a headmaster who is esteemed and recognized as stellar by his peers. I could go on and on. We couldn't be happier with our school "family". I highly, highly recommend HCCSA.

We relocated to Austin from Minnesota where our two young boys had attended a classical christian school. We wanted the same sort of educational experience in Austin and were referred to Hill Country by friends. We have been very impressed with the leadership at the school and the quality of individuals our boys have had as teachers. They provide a caring and nurturing environment for all the students, and have really challenged both of our boys to excel. They have excellent music programs and we've been pleased with their Gifted and Talented program this year. As evidence, both our boys are reading signficantly above grade level. Most important to us is that everything at the school is Christ-centered. We love the way they challenge the students to think in terms of "world-view" of the Bible and "Biblical-view" of history and worldview.

We are so thankful for HCCSA! This is our 4th year at the school, and I never cease to be amazed at not only what our kids are learning, but how they are learning. In addition to classroom instruction, they are taking educational field studies (to places like NASA, Pine Cove, the Renaissance Festival, etc) and participating in activities such as Speech Meet, Science Fair, Egyptian Day, etc. I also appreciate how much our teachers and staff invest in our kids lives. The entire high school is on a retreat right now with their teachers. If you are looking for a Christ centered school with challenging academics, an excellent headmaster, loving teachers and staff, and a group of parents that will welcome you with open arms, this is the school for you!

My family is new to Hill Country Christian School and have two elementary age children attending. As new parents we have been so impressed with the high level of communication that is provided to parents on a regular basis. It is huge to know what is happening at the school. The faculty has been simply fabulous and this includes not only the grade level teachers. This includes the librarians, school nurse, principal and head master. The beyond academic opportunities are also amazing. The school offers things such as a Chess Club, History Club and Pep Squad. One last point is the welcome by existing parents, faculty and admissions office has made for an easier transition.

We have been members of the HCCSA family for 5 years now and look forward to MANY more! Their newly added Preschool is outstanding and provides a safe haven for our young students! My children still benefit from past teachers as they walk the halls. The staff is supportive and welcoming. I believe the most important thing you can instill into a child is their love of learning (and this school has excellent curriculum that the student's learn by singing, dancing and motions). The strong sense of Christ-centered behavior is evident in the education they receive from day one until the day they walk out the doors in the afternoon, along with great friendships that span many grade levels! We switched from public school to HCCSA when our daughter was going into 1st grade. She is now in 5th grade and our son is in 1st. We love HCCSA and feel that the Christ centered values are priceless and worth the sacrifice that we make to afford a private education. I am a public school teacher and believe that children get a great education in our public schools; however, it is not Christ centered and that is what we want for our children. We believe the moral values and biblical teachings are the foundation for our children s successful future AND they get a great education too! Hill Country Christian School of Austin has been a dream come true for our family! My children have attended public school, home school and other Christian schools. HCCSA has proved to be even more than what we hoped for in our search for an education of academic excellence! Our children are challenged daily in their classes and come home with a love for learning and a desire to learn more. They know that the headmaster, principal, nurse, their homeroom teacher and their Latin teachers know their name and care about them. There are so many opportunities at Hill Country for our children to grown into well-rounded adults: Latin, Speech Meet, Spelling Bee, Music, Art and History Events. Our children have excelled at this school. They were in an "exemplary" school prior to enrolling at Hill Country and the quality of education was much lower at their old school. Their academics are far superior. The teachers absolutely love each child and works very hard to love and encourage each one. My only complaint is that they do not talk enough about other religions. I understand they are Christian focused, but the world is a diverse place. We would highly recommend them to anyone!

Finding a school with very high academic standards was our top priority, and we found that with HCCSA. The teachers are highly qualified and they have high expectations for students. We enjoy having our children in an educational setting with other highly motivated students, parents and teachers. Best of all, all learning at HCCSA leans toward higher education, so you never hear "Are you going to college?" Instead, you hear "WHERE are you going to college?"

This is our first year at Hill Country Christian School and my kids could not be happier! The teachers make learning fun and interactive. They offer so many extra clubs that it is hard to choose! The administration is very organized and there is no pressure to volunteer in order to make the school run.

We chose HCCSA because of the classical education model within the Christian environment. We've stayed eight years because of the phenomenal success our kids have experienced here. Yes, there have been administrative snafus and a few communication missteps along the way. But ultimately our yearly decision to re-enroll is based on the "bottom line" output, that is our children. They love the school mostly because of the supportive and loving environment from teachers and administrators. We love it because we see our kids challenged, enthusiastic and "shining", even at ages when many kids become sullen and withdrawn.

We are so blessed to have found this school. Our son was bored to tears in 2nd grade and now in our 3rd year at HCCSA he is so happy, challenged and still has straight A's! Not only is the curriculum college prep but he has learned life skills from participation in Spelling Bee, Speech Meet, History Timelines, Latin, Bible verse memorization and field studies. As a teacher at HCCSA I see the smile on children's faces as they connect the pieces to the learning puzzle. I love that our curriculum is connected and well thought out. It is also amazing to see the support and love not only within the classroom but from the parents who volunteer endlessly to support us!
