The smaller class sizes allow the teachers to really get to know their students and love them and teach them in a very personal way. The love of God is not just taught at the school - it is lived out every day.

We are currently sending our 2 daughters to the preK program here. We originally were at a mother's Day out program but the girls needed more attention and we wanted them to be learning more to prepare for school. After only a semester both kids have learned far more than we expected while also truly being excited to go. The preKs teaching is quite traditional which is something that we were looking for. Smaller classrooms give the kids more one on one time. Also the kids AND parents are involved for any extra activities. One thing I love is that the girls know the name of all the preK teachers/staff and the staff all know the kids names.We are very proud to say that our kids go here and I know that our third child will join when she is a little older.

We couldnt ask for a more better school for our child to attend. The classrooms are small so our kid gets to have the opportunity to get the necessary attention she needs to excel. I worried about my child going to school with todays world but the safety that this school has is more than I could expect. My daughter loves being at school everyday and learning about God as well.

We have had a wonderful experience at this school with our two children. The class sizes are small which has allowed for more individualized attention. The teachers all care about the students and clearly want them to succeed. My youngest needs weekly speech therapy sessions and the school was amazing at helping us get that set up and making accommodations to ensure we had the support to make it happen.

Best decision ever made as a parent of switching my daughter to this school. Northwest Christian School has been very welcoming to us as a family and most importantly to my daughter as a new student. Her grades have improved drastically and her attitude did a 360 about going to school. We are blessed to have found this school and love it!

My daughter has been in this school for several years. The quality of education is far above public school and they do a great job incorporating Christian values and Bible teaching into the program. We have never had any problems other than typical kids having disagreements as they do at young ages. I plan on keeping her in the school thru all grade levels offered.

I cant say enough great things about this school! The teachers genuinely care about each student and go above and beyond to support their individual learning needs. One of the standout features is the small teacher-to-child ratio, which ensures that every child gets the attention and guidance they need to thrive.

My little has attended NWHC since PK3 and is currently enrolled in her 6th yr. She was reading to us by PK4 and writing in cursive by the end of kindergarten. As long as we live in SA, our little will attend NWHC.

Can't say enough about our experience at NW Hills, the entire staff cares about the mission, our children learn and thrive while experiencing the love of Jesus. There are always activities, plays, chapel, food, sports, etc. They offer services starting at PreK2 - 8th grade. Our children are well ahead of where they would be in a public school.

My two kids have been attending this school for a couple of years now and we couldnt be more satisfied with this wonderful school. The principal, teachers and staff are so amazing with each student. We are truly grateful to have found this school and will continue to

My children have been part of the NWHCS family for three years. They are excited to go to school everyday due to the caring and safe environment that NWHCS provides. Mr. Peyton is the epitome of a wonderful leader. All the NWHCS staff care for the children and know every child by first name. My student is completing their second school year at NWHCS and I encourage any parent looking for a faith-based education for their child in a more personal setting, where families work together to help the school succeed to meet with Principal Peyton and take a tour of the school. NWHCS does have high expectations for its students. The Pre-K classes begin learning to read and write the alphabet and numbers at age 3. By the end of the Kindergarten year, the majority of students are reading at a 2nd grade level and taught beginning level cursive/handwriting. In 1st Grade, the students are expanding their reading skills and most have fully grasped cursive/handwriting skills by the end of the first school semester. If your child needs extra help or is struggling with keeping up with the curriculum, the teachers are readily available to help with after school tutoring or work together with parents on different approaches to learning that will help your child stay on track.

NWHCS has received the blessing of Principal Gilpatrick Peyton, he works extremely hard on developing relationships with all students and parents. He is always visible at school and his door is always open, he responds quickly to parents e-mails and phone calls. I have personally brought concerns to him and he has acted diligently and always addressed them quickly and satisfactory. NWHCS is a tight network of families that work together to help the school succeed.

NWHCS is not equipped to handle Special needs students, however, if your student is struggling the teachers will do all they can by way of offering after school tutoring or presenting additional ideas on things that you can do with your child at home to ensure that they are grasping the curriculum to their full potential. The teachers are also very keen on identifying learning roadblocks such as dyslexia and speech impairment and will work with students and guide parents to outside resources to help the student.

Harassment and/or bullying are not tolerated, I have personally brought a concern of this sort to Principal Peyton regarding my student and my concern was validated immediately and actions were put in place to resolve the matter with an outcome that was satisfactory and fair.

I moved my children from public school to private school last year. I was worried my children would have a hard time adjusting but the amount of care and love the staff (and children) poured into my children was overwhelming. I love that that everyone, from the Principal to office staff, all know my children by their name. My children receive personal attention and I am always made aware of any issues or concerns immediately. Mr. Peyton has been a great leader for this school this year and I love the middle school staff and the way they push my daughter to do her best. This is a great Christ-centered school.

This is simple case of not practicing what they preach. The teachers really didn't have the first clue what the students said in private conversations. Kids said all kinds of awful things, racist, homophobic, etc. We swore, talked about sex, and gossiped every chance we got when teachers weren't looking or listening.

When I was there, the policy was terrible. There was no such thing on fair treatment. If someone was messing with you and you defended yourself, you would both get an equal punishment - regardless of who instigated or what actually happened. Rather than actually deal with problems, it was easier to just punish everyone involved as quickly as possible to get the situation over with. And that's only how they handled physical bullying. Verbal harassment and threats were thrown around whenever teachers weren't in earshot. Homophobic slurs were the most popular at the time. It's such a small environment that if you were to actually complain to staff, someone would just get a slap on the wrist and would know within an hour who complained about them.

All in all, it's not surprising to see their number of staff and students decrease every year. The teachers are picked faith-first, and skill-second, meaning it really doesn't matter if they're good around kids or skilled at teaching. The environment is suffocatingly small, making it difficult to get away from problematic students. They do a bad job attempting to reconcile religion with science, but what can you expect when trying to reconcile fiction with facts?

NWHCS is a wonderful school with amazing teachers who nurture and love their students. My daughter was in the Pre-K 4 program and has learned so much this year because of her great teacher. She learned how to write all her letters (uppercase and lowercase) neatly and legibly on lines, she is able to read very well, knows how to add, and has become more comfortable socially. But above all, the school has instilled the value of a strong Christian faith, which was so important for me. My daughter woke up every day excited to go to school and learn here, and that made me so happy. Every teacher she has come in contact with has shown so much care. If we did not have to move away, I would still send my daughter here. I highly recommend this school for your child if you are looking for a great Christian education!

It is a very comfortable family environment here. Every teacher that comes into contact with my child seems to have a vested interest in his well being; from the car drop off line, to his teacher, cafeteria staff, all the way through to the after school care. My family has seen quite a few health struggles this year and every time we've gone to the Teachers and Staff for help, relief, or questions, we've been met with nothing but compassion, patience and kindness.

Words can not express how much we love Northwest Hills Christian School. All I was looking for was a PreK class for my son that shared the same core values and with a reasonable price. And we received so so so much more. Not only is it a plus that my son loves his school, he really enjoys getting to go to gym everyday, and then art, music, and library once a week. But my pleasant surprise is his education. He has learned so much this year with a really sweet teacher and he reads so well. Reading is a complete bonus, I didn't think those skills would develop until Kindergarten. Its makes me very happy that he is more than ready for next year. So glad we found this WONDERFUL school.

Both of my children have attended this school for 5 years and both of them have excelled beyond my expectations. The reason is...God is at work at this school. He has brought really great people to the school and I feel safe in trusting the staff with my children. All of the staff welcomes my family with a smile and hello everyday and are always willing to meet with my husband and I for any concerns we may have, and to pray with us. I recommend this school. When negative things happen at the school, parents are not notified. For example when a teacher leaves without explanation, or if a parent has a complaint or concern, the school goes by what teachers think and there is little recourse since the school is not accredited and therefore, no outside governing body investigates the matter. There also seems to be an abnormal amount of negative gossiping among staff and parents.

The enrollment has plummeted over the past years and can be verified. The school is not accredited and therefore no organization reviews policies or academic standards. The school does not offer drama, gospel choir, AP classes and many things like enrollment numbers need to be updated on websites. Teachers leave without notice or explanations and this makes it hard on students. If you are going to pay for a private school, you need to review the cons of not being accredited and how that can affect your child in the future. If you are looking for a homeschool type of education, then being accredited may not matter.

The school is struggling to maintain enough students to continue because many parents have had bad experiences and because the school is not accredited, their is no recourse. The principal is on the school board that oversees her actions and this alone is not fair or represents integrity. Many parents have enrolled their children for next year but are withdrawing them even at the cost of losing their registration and book fees.

I hope parents understand that any christian school disciplines different then a public school. They discipline with talking through the problem and by prayer. I have personally seen this work with my own child who was hurt by another child, I was immediately alerted to what happened, the vice principal spoke to my child and made sure he was ok and explained that it's not ok but sometimes these things happen and the other child was spoken to and apologized. The problem starts with us parents, to jump and say "call the police", these are children, they have to learn how to handle situations and learn how to deal with all matters. Spanking and jail or court doesn't fix anything it only puts a bandaid on an issue that is in the heart. And to say "they push religious field trips", you put your child in a "Christian School" you signed papers telling you that your child would be taught religion, this is a bible based school. The problem is within the home NOT THE SCHOOL. To many issues arrived when our GOD was pulled out of Public schools.

To a comment about teachers not being certified:
EVERY teacher at NWHCS has #1 GOD
& high experiance and no teacher is working there without a college degree and certified, if they are not certified they are currently enrolled to do so. But I personally know that you can not teach there unless you have a college degree and training in numerous educational classes, cpr, first aid, fbi check and this school makes sure the teachers are going to classes all the time for higher education. In public schools anyone can substitute your child at ALLLLL SA schools, no degree, no classes, no ged, just a background check. At NWHCS to even substitute you HAVE TO HAVE a degree and your child is never left alone to a parent that stopped by, or someone random, even if the teacher just runs to the bathroom someone from the office or another teacher has to watch the class. Having a smaller school, your child is constantly supervised PERIOD. This school allows no room for error in that department. They do a buddy system on bathroom/water breaks, office visits etc. The teacher does not have a high ratio, they take safety extremely high. You cannot walk past the office unless you signed in a computer with the office and wear a badge. The entire office watches every door/hallway of that school, and trust me the principal watches all for safety of our kids. The relationships built at this school are for a LIFETIME.

My child has gone here many years and has succeeded IMMENSLY. I agree there may have been some things I didn't agree with "until" I learned to just ask. Then I would see the other perspective. When our child is in a Christian school they will be challenged and pushed to succeed because everything they are taught is ABOVE ALL public schools in SA. The 1st graders here are reading at a 3rd grade level when they finish the year, they can read write cursive better than most of us parents at the end of 1st grade. Our public schools do not even teach cursive anymore. They are doing school work while at school because it's school not daycare. I hear a lot of people complain that they don't get enough "free play", if our children are going to succeed then they have to learn to be pushed now and not when its to late. Our society is Lazy and has expectations of "give me". Our children are being taught to work hard for the reward. I have personally spoken to high school children in private who tell me they see parents put a child from public school in private and they don't last because they are not used to the amount of work and being pushed to Excellence and they end up leaving. This school will not tolerate anything but "yes/no mam" "please/thank you and much more that I don't see at our public schools. Violence does not happen, in all the years here never have I heard of a fight and I know many teachers. Try to understand you may not agree with the superintendent but she is on your child's side and only wants the best. As far as the "high turn over" please know that a teacher got ill and passed away, another had a husband that was in military and got stationed somewhere else, and another left due to same reason. The teachers leave not by choice but because our Lord is leading them into different paths. The ones who are still there are truly AMAZING. And also to give notice on going into the classroom is only respect to the teacher and what there plans are and it does disrupt the class, but of course as a parent you can go if you want. It's a matter of respect, just think how they have to get your child's full attention and gain the trust in order to really capture all the teachings. This school is a wonderful school, remember nothing is perfect, only our GOD is.

We were looking for a Christian school but were not able to afford one of the big name schools in town. We found NWHCS and thought it was a great deal. As they say, you get what you pay for, we found this so true with our child! As long as you don't question anything Mrs. Donna Beaver does, as principal, you can stay in good standing. As soon as you question anything the school does, and you will, you find out what it means to have your children in an unaccredited school where academics are not reviewed or monitored. You also have little leverage, unless you are prominent, since you agreed to place your child in an unrecognized school. We should have paid more attention to the reviews. If you notice, the 4 and 5 star reviews are skewed around 2010, when the past principal was still in charge. We experienced lack of respect, self-serving attitude and no accountability of the administration. I would definitely recommend looking for an accredited school that offers financial aid to make up the difference in tuition Be sure to check on enrollment and staff turnover this summer before you make a definite decision.

Instead of reading posts that are subjective or requested, look at it objectively. Do what many wish we had done before you make this investment. Find out why the school is not accredited. Will your children be caught up with schools that offer stronger curriculums and electives? Have they been awarded any school-related honors? Is financial aid or assistance offered and why not? Ask to see how much enrollment has decreased over the past few years. This is important. Data online may not be accurate. How much turn-over is there among the administration and staff members? Are current job openings and turn-over normal? I would then compare this information to other private schools. Are you allowed to sit in class without plenty of advance notice? Will your children be ready for middle or high school down the road? Do your research. Besides just reading experiences, we considered these things to help decide if it is a good fit for our children. We want a positive reinforcement school that has a reputation people have heard of as a "great school".

I've been attending NWHCS for 10 years. From Pre-K to 8th grade. I am currently in 8th grade. Mrs. Damschen, my pre-k teacher, was the best first teacher i could ask for. Yes she was a little strict but she only did so to mold her students into great people. Mrs. Todd, my third grade teacher, was a very strict, but amazing teacher. She taught me responsibility. Mrs. Priest, my fourth grade teacher, was also very strict but she is a very sweet lady. All of these teachers are still working at the school and I am very glad. They are amazing teachers. They teach you things you will need later in life at a young age. Strict teachers are what your children need. If i didn't have strict teachers I wouldn't have honor roll every year and be attending a magnet school next year. My brother and sister also came to this school and absolutely loved it. They graduated with honors at their high school and are now attending college.

My children (PreK - 3 to 1st grade) have been at NWHCS for 2 years now. The staff has always been nice and helpful. You enter the school and are overwhelmed with the love that everyone has for each other. My children have grown not only academically but spiritual. Anywhere you go there are issues, at least at NWHCS there is an open line of communication. Questions and concerns are address as soon as possible. If you're new to the area or are looking for a new school for your children, contact the school. Review pages are often used by individuals that have only negative things to say or underlying issues that they didn't speak up and have addressed.

My child has been attending NWHCS for 2 years. My child has thrived in the schools high academic standards and the positive, loving, Christian environment. My child's teacher is so in tune with all of her students. There has been been communication with her all year and she has helped my child work thru his disability and thrive in school in all aspects. I get emails, notes, phone calls just letting me know how my child is doing daily/weekly. I wish I could say it more, but this school cares about the success of your child not only academically but socially as well. One review stated this school is too strict which is nonsense. NWHCS holds the kids to a high standard of excellence which as a parent you want your kids to thrive and succeed and this school provides that foundation. My child has been involved in every sport the school offers and the coaches have been so enthusiastic..teaching the kids not only the sport at hand but also such positive sportsmanship. My family is truly blessed to have found and be a part of the NWHCS family!

Teachers are not certified and Administration is not properly trained. Please be aware that supervision is lacking and if your child gets physically hit by another this is to be reported to the police. This is the policy of public schools when a child is consciously physically injured by another, a policy not followed at this school.

Both of my children have had the Pre-k 3 teacher at this school. We LOVE her!!!!! I have both types of kids. One that was quiet and one that was not. She is what I would call "real" with parents. She does not sugar coat things. Maybe the previous parent couldn't take the fact that their child needed help. This school is a wonderful place for children.

Bullying is shoved under the rug. We felt Religion was pushed with mandatory high adventure field trips linked to religion. They do nickel and dime you with fundraisers (many fast food events.) The administration refuses to meet in person when conflict arises, minimizing problems and encouraging families to leave the school if you don t agree with their policies. I wished someone had warned me about this place and I had checked other schools. We lost an investment of time and money that we sacrificially made for what we thought was a better education for our child. Unfortunately, we had to learn the hard way that the school had bullies, clicks, uncertified teachers, and an administration not interested in our concerns. We were amazed that the public school we switched our child to is more advanced academically and tailors to our child needs. If you want small environment for your child check the charter or magnet schools in the area. They are free and open to the public, and if you don t like them, you don t lose your tuition money, so you can afford going on vacation or improve the quality of your life!

My Nephew has attended this school since he was 3 yrs old. I also taught in the middle school for a semester. In addition, I VOLUNTEERED my time to coach the middle school basketball team for several years. I feel since the previous Director left, the current Director is more about the quantity than the quality. The classs I taught had 12 kids, my nephew's current class has 22. In addition, although the majority of the teachers have Degrees, they do not have their teacher certification. I am certified by the State of Texas to teach PE, Science, and Health. During my time as a public school teacher I was observed by my administrator 2 times per semester. I would be interested to know how often the middle school teachers at this school are observed. Two of the 3 teachers in the middle school are extremely disorganized and if you read the Bios on the NWHCS website you will notice they do not have a teaching background. They have a Degree, but they did not spend the hours observing classrooms that most education degrees require. I do agree the Abeka Curriculumn is a very good curriculumn and if taught currectly will give a child an advantage over a public school child.

The pricipal is not able to handle conflict between staff or parents. A great kindergarten teacher was abruptly let go against her will becuase the principal could not or would not resolve the conflict. Two more kindergaten teachers quit or were fired that same years. The parents were very upset and confused by this. There is no appropriate chain of command when conflicts occurs. Also, some teacher are not certified and the school is still not accredited!!!

The Pre-K program was great and cheaper than daycare. However the elementary curriculum is unorganized and inconsistent. Some classes are much more behind than others. They had 3 faculty members abruptly resign last month alone which caused classes to fall behind and tough transitions for young Kindergarten kids. When I followed the grievance policy for my questions/complaints, I was given the run around by the director & the pastor and was refused any further information. One told me the director and superintendent were the same person which I believe is a conflict of interest but couldn't get any clear answers. Tuition jumps annually however the education, resources, and organization is not improving and athletic programs are almost non-existent due to poor communication. If you get a good teacher that the director likes the class is great, if not, look forward to a bumpy year for all.

This is our second year with the school and we have two children enrolled, one in Kinder and one in first grade. We have been very happy with the education they are receiving. They have been transitioning away from worksheets and incorporating more "center-based" learning. This has really helped my child in kindergarten excel. They are growing rapidly leading to difficulty with long pick-up/drop-off lines and limited parking at school events. Overall, it is a great school that is growing rapidly. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a quality Christian education.
