We have really enjoyed attending SHLS! We have enjoyed the “village” we have created to help raise our children in a loving, Christian environment. We have made forever friends and our children have thrived in this environment. Academically our children have been challenged and they have progressed well. As a parent, I am encouraged to provide input and I have constant communication with their teachers. I’m so thankful for the support we have had while attending SHLS!!!

My child has been attending Shepherd for many years. Our experience has been exceptional. The teachers are truly invested in my child's growth. Small class sizes, excellent Christ-centered curriculum, teachers and staff know my child's name. Shepherd integrates compassion into their teaching standards, emphasizes the importance of values, and helps foster my child's love of Jesus.

The school has made such a difference in our lives. It is more than just a school and it is truly a family and a community.

This school is okay. They don’t tell you about a lot of things and staffing is an issue all the time. In fact one teacher got fired recently. No email was sent to the parents on why or that he got fired at all. There is also certain teachers that can make a child not want to go to school at all. One teacher does not let your child drink water until the end if class. Homework depends on the teacher. The principal is barely involved with the kids, and will rarely see her. Some teachers are actually good role models for the kids. My child has gone here for many years. I think the only reason they still want to attend this school is because of their friends and the sports that can be signed up for.

Shepherd of the Hills, has provided my children with an excellent education and reinforced their relationship with Jesus Christ (a rarity with today's secularism.) I love their "read up" program , allowing advanced readers to read ahead with higher grade levels. Also, they nationally test in the top 10% with students testing on average an entire grade level ahead. The family like atmosphere is contagious, everyone knows everyone and the school hosts many events and dinners in concert with the church to bring everyone together. Extracurricular's and electives are many, all major sports for girls/boys, Drama, Band, Art, Choir, and an award winning robotics program. Another benefit are the smaller class sizes. Just can't say enough about this school.

Make sure you look in to the inappropriate relationship that one of the Youth Minister's had with a student. Charges were filed and he was arrested. School kept it quiet with just a short email to parents. Not a good environment for my kids.

I work in the medical profession and have my infant in the infant care. I am satisfied with this program and recommend to others. Should I have a concern, it has been dealt with in a timely manner. Concerns are heard and honored. Looking forward to another great year with my child in this childcare.

Overall a great school! We started our children in the child care but have fallen in love with the school. It feels like a big family! We see our kids growing academically, socially and spiritually snd can't imagine them anywhere else!!

I love that the teachers have experience, are all certified and many have received their graduate work. They know how to teach and find joy in sharing their love for learning. The care, attention and creativity shown for each child also makes them superb!!

Character and Chrisitian values are one of the main reasons we enroll our children here. We want to impress upon them at an early age the importance of character, integrity, respect, sympathy and compassion. The church and school are mission oriented and emphasize that we are called to serve, lead and love others.

Super school! The staff are caring a at all levels. Our children have always had a great school year while they were students. Actually I was a student at Shepherd and brought my own kids back to this school. Wouldn't have them anywhere else.

The principal touts her availability to parents, which is great, but she chooses to leave it at just lip service with no action.

The early childhood director is wonderful & responsive!

In the end, I guess it is bipolar leadership.

It is hard to say because my children get that at home. I know they have it, and I presume some comes from the school. The early childhood teachers definitely model compassion and respect, so I believe they get it there.

Three stars overall, but **five** for the childcare! We love the childcare program and the teachers--they are absolutely the best in San Antonio.

I have concerns that as my children grow the elementary and junior high programs are not as caring (1-2 stars there). The principal does not appear to value concerns that are brought to her. She gives canned responses rather than honoring requests.

Also, this past summer, I witnessed a teacher of an apparent elementary-aged child belittle the girl--the girls was crying and said "I want my mommy," to which the teacher replied "Well, I want my mommy too" as she marched the girl through the cafeteria. How is that kind and caring?

I'm not sure that they deal any better with it than elsewhere. I've noticed children bothering others, and while mine stand up for themselves, I'm not sure that all do. It's not Disneyland, but I'm sure it could be worse.

Our three children get up so easily for school in the mornings and feel accepted and have more friends than they could have dreamed of at their past Christian School. Shepherd offers so many great subjects, electives, competitive sports, events and fun family activities. The curriculums are top notch and the teachers love being there and love your children. This is demonstrated by the lack of staff and student turnover. We prayed and prayed for a school like this where we knew our children were safe, happy and learning good morals, academics and about God. This was an answer to our prayers and we love how they have handled any normal student conflict, which is extremely rare. There is a reason this accredited, blue ribbon school has existed so long and will continue to grow and thrive. We thank God for leading us to Shepherd and helping us instill the Christian values we have at home and keeping our children young and faithful. If you take a tour or shadow, attend a chapel, or a Sunday sermon, your decision will be made!

After reading all the reviews and having a child enrolled at SHLS. I have to agree with most of them, both good and bad. I have seen behavior problems go uncorrected. I have noticed some bullying. A few students are kind of rough. But overall most are not. I also have to agree that a couple of times my child was the victim of a bully and I wasn't notified. But that same day received a note about handwriting. The teachers & administration do really care. They try very hard. But as a past reviewer stated, they do over pressure small details and fail to see bigger issues or the "whole" child. Bottom line is its a good school with a staff that does care. A child could do well there, but be prepared to advocate for them.

My daughter Attended this school from age three through the 8th grade she graduated in 2014. My daughter is very motivated and smart. The teachers allowed her to thrive and reach her goals. There was also good presence in sports and she had opportunities to participate and made significant improvements in basketball and track and field. My daughter also really enjoyed having spiritual values in the school. Shepherd prepared my daughter very well for high school and she now attends TMI episcopal school after being awarded a very competitive Alkek Scholarship.

Our daughter has been going to Shepherd since pre K and we have loved it from that time on.From the principal,teachers,pastors,lunch room personal and day care everyone is so very caring.Our daughter is an exceptional student and they have encouraged her to keep this up through everything we as a family went through in the last 2 years With their help and encouragement she has managed a 4.0 grade point average throughout all her years there.Even though I know she worked extremely hard for this I know her being so happy at the school she attended and being encouraged by such great teachers has been a big part of it. She applied for and received a full four year scholarship to St Mary's Hall {Campbell Scholarship}.We know she will blossom there thanks to her great experience at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran School.Thank you Shepherd family for a amazing 9 years.We will miss you all.Blessings and love The Cooper Family.

My children love going to school every day. I'm very happy with what they are learning. The whole school did an International Study for their Open House that was fun and all of the kids were excited to show off what they learned. I see happy kids and happy teachers. The Children's Chapel service is wonderful.

I'm a grandparent of one of the Pre-K children, but my daughter also attended Shepherd of the Hills. This school was great when my daughter was here, and even better now. I love that I still see some of the same teachers, and the love for teaching and learning is wonderful. I'm so happy my granddaughter gets to attend Shepherd.

My grandson attends this school and I am thrilled at what he is learning and the environment in which he is learning it. Everything is centered on Christ, and the curriculum will prepare him far better than the public school in our neighborhood. Every teacher and staff member is so helpful and seems to want to do the best for every child. I love this school!

I heard the kids in this school were a little rough, especially on the fields during games, but I thought maybe they were really competitive. We signed our 7 and 5yo up for camp this summer to test the water. On her 3rd day there my 7yo witnessed 3 girls bullying another. When she went to check on the girl she was grabbed from behind & held by one child while another kicked her! Teachers never mentioned it. We spoke with the director who assured us they would talk to the "one" who kicked her. I begged them to remind all students about bullying and how to report it. Two weeks later picking up my kids I heard chanting coming from the playground. Every kid on the playground (mine included) were surrounding a boy sitting on the floor chanting Cry Baby. Two teachers sat nearby chatting. I scolded my kids loudly and made them apologize, but walking away I realized the teachers never looked up and the kids were probably going to start up again. I had to go back & tell them to check on this boy. How can teachers ignore a child being bullied? In a Christian school! Again, director was unaware of it. I didn't feel my children were safe or being taught Christian values. That was our last day.

Great school for my children. I have my 2 children sent to this school for 4 years and we loved it and will keep them in. Teachers are great and they did their best to help each child and treat them equally.

This is the best school. The teachers are awesome. The teachers are always happy which they are not in other places. I love the curriculum and the hands-on education.

SHLS has been the best educational decision we have made for our children. With so many private school choices in San Antonio, we choose SHLS year after year because our children have made great strides educationally and spiritually, and the school supports the same values and ethics we have at home. SHLS is an extension of our family, from caring school and church staff, high credentialed educators, to well run cafeteria, sports, tech, and extracurricular programs, all helping to ensure my children become the best they can possibly be. For me and my family, there is no other choice.

Both of my children attended Shepherd of the Hills from preschool through 8th grade. Shepherd of the Hills provides a well-rounded education, focused on the whole child...spiritual, academic, social, and emotional development. Children attending Shepherd of the Hills are provided with many opportunitiies to develop their own individual strengths and abilities through strong academics, daily Bible lessons, weekly chapel, and varied extra-curricular activities such as band, sports, academic competitions through PSIA, scouts, and after-school clubs such as martial arts and jumprope, to name a few. Students are encouraged to be service-minded through supporting and encouraging a children's home in Haiti, and participating in student led service projects. Even though my children have completed their education, Shepherd of the Hills would still be my first choice in selecting a preschool through 8th grade program of education.

Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran School and Childcare has been home to our granddaughter for 3 years nows. She began in preschool and is currently in first grade. The faculty and staff put forth their very best effort everyday creating a warm, Christian environment. If you're looking for a school that lives up to their Mission Statement: "Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran School and Childcare is a community of parents, students, and staff working together to foster Christ-like qualities in all we pursue: spiritual growth, academic excellence, social, emotional, and physical development," then this is the campus for you.

Excellent christian school with excellent teachers. I have one child who goes to Shepherd now and loves school.Teachers are caring and supportive. Chapel on Wednesdays are AWESOME!!!! Parents are always encouraged to get involved with there class.

Nice nice Christian enviroment, but that's about it. Principal, very weak, not a strong leader or problem solver. Vice-principal even worse. Not a strong teaching staff, although there are a few outstanding teachers. My daughter, who went to Shepherd for three years, told me that Shepherd did not prepare her for high school. Have talked with other parents who share the same feelings, especially with math. Cafeteria food--forget it! With all the negatives, no wonder the number of students has dwindled. If a Christmas enviroment is what you're looking for, which was at the top of our list, then take a look at Shepherd. If not, do your child a favor & look elsewhere.
