There are some great things at this school. The majority of teachers really care about their students and provide a strong educational foundation.
However , the administration , particularly the superintendent ignores issues , rather brushing them under the rug for appearance sake. Including when it is reported a teacher is mistreating students. Teachers are overworked and taken advantage of to add another “checkmark” on the list of what is done.
That said , the teachers here really care about the kids to be able to work here. So for many kids it is a very positive experience.

Subpar at best. Great teachers but no administration support

Posted: October 28, 2020

Students are moved to the next grade level regardless

Zero administrative support unless there’s money in it for them

The worse experience ever, I wouldn’t and won’t recommend this school, because I know I didn’t care when they lost my kids ip pen when they thought they needed it I had to rush from work to take the one I had and they said well we would of used an expired ip pen they had, they lost her prescription cream, again didn’t have it when my daughter needed it, in my kids medicine they mix expired pills with the new ones, they never reported any incidents the kids had I had to find out through the kids. They got hit, bit, scratched, spit on, slapped several times and nothing ever got done they wouldn’t take the kids out of that class expected me to be ok leaving my kids with a teacher basically letting me know she can’t handle her class. She said that they have a lot of kids and can’t watch everything that happens, teacher lie, overall I can keep going on but basically they don’t do anything to defend your kid and just let them get hit. I was told well she didn’t cry so I guess if the kids don’t cry when they get hit it doesn’t hurt them and doesn’t matter.

Teachers themselves are bullies, and intimidate the students and expect the student to feel comfortable to go let them know when someone does something to them, how when the teachers themselves are basically bullies themselves

Posted: April 25, 2018

How can they teach something when they don’t even follow it themselves

Posted: April 25, 2018

How are they leaders when they are contracting their own rules and have favoritism, and they are lairs and cover for each other

They don’t care, all year my kids have had issues and I have addressed them with the teacher, the dean, and everyone I could and they can’t give me answers and do t do anything about it, they don’t even report the incidents to me I find out when I pick up my kids. I have let them know who is hurting the kids and they don’t care they just say no we don’t have sick kid here when I identify the kids to the teacher/ I was forced to withdrawal my kids out of school since they don’t do anything about bullying

If effectively dealing with bullying means hiding bullies- both students and teachers, then sure, they love bullies.

My daughter currently attends Odyssey Academy but it is not working out. She has been bullied by kids and her 1st grade teacher (teacher made my daughter clean up another student's feces and nothing was done) and I am at my wits end. I have had to continually fight the school on a few issues, the most recent is her being made to walk laps around the playground in high heat a few weeks after having surgery. My attempts to make the school understand my concerns as her mother is met with sarcasm and patronizing tones. I am in the process of sending my daughter to an alternative school. I refuse to allow my child to continue to bear the brunt of a poor excuse for a charter school. It's such a shame because it started out with such promise and a child that loved school. Now I am left with a sad child that hates school and is afraid of teachers.

This school is very, "Click-ish". Majority of the hispanic staff act very unprofessional and they all have their own children there as students; their spouses and boyfriends also work there. There's alot of bullying and favoritism. They favor each others children for clubs, activities & sports. They are not very friendly to new people who come to their school, because they are used to the same children (their own), year after year & year. The front desk secretary is very unprofessional when she answers incoming calls. She always shouts over the phone when she picks up and as you are trying to explain to her why you called, she is laughing and carrying on a conversation with someone else there next to her. (Very rude) These staff members kids are mean and ugly towards other kids who are not in their same league. When I went to check on my 11 year old daughter one day, I saw & heard a group of kids during PE calling my daughter ugly, curse words in spanish as the PE coach was looking away, talking to another female coach that was there. These people think that I don't know what is being said or understand, but I do. I am mexican too and I understand that kind of language. There is no reason for other children to be acting like that to another. This school does not set good examples by allowing faculty & staff to all be related to each other thru work and as a student. Because they all cover for each others children and each other. There ought to be rules against that, like all other businesses, where your spouse and children cannot be in the same place that you work. My daughter will not be coming back.

Their single, school printer is always down and so kids donot get much homework or print out sheets. Also, this school does not have books for their students. (What kind of school does not have school books for their students!?)

Not unless you are the child of one of the staff members that work at this school

My child s teacher at the day care strongly recommended Odyssey. We visited several schools, including GISD and private schools, and met teachers before starting. My child chose Odyssey. My child likes the teacher from day 3 of the school. Odyssey has small number of students each grade. It has a family-like atmosphere. They have chance to play together. The students know each other even they are in the different grades. We meet school friends everywhere on the island, stores, churches, and events. Odyssey has an after school care at the school. We don t have to worry about the child taking a wrong school bus to go after school. We can meet and talk with the teachers every day when we pick up. We revisited the other schools during the first year of school for their festivals. The larger school had larger parent participation and more fun things to play. It was attractive for me. But, my child still likes Odyssey the best!

Odyssey Academy is a great school. It has an amazing family atmosphere and the teachers truly care about what happens to the students.

My son has attended Odyssey from PreK3 through 5th grade. The teachers and staff at Odyssey treat him as one of their own. What other school has a faculty who greets their students upon arrival each morning and sees them to their car each evening? Odyssey's core values match those my husband and I have instilled in our child and he thrives there. We were instantly drawn to the family type atmosphere of the campus and feel it has been a wonderful school of choice for our son.

Odyssey is now known for expelling children who cannot pass standardized test for "Behavioral Problems" CHECK THE RECORDS. This school is a complete joke - There is favoritism across the board, and trust I'm no brown noser. You are there to teach and protect in your time. My child has been bullied and told to handle it on their own. Assaults happen daily during RECESS. Teachers pay no mind to these kids. I have been several times and children are running the halls during class time which is absurd. NO GOOD.

Aweseome teachers and staff that care for the well being of our kids. Their family type atmosphere gives us parents comfort that our kids are learning in a safe environment.

My son Samuel started a few years ago. This school seems to be a good starter with informative knowledge over many academics.

Odyssey has served me and my family since my daughter was 3 she is now 12 and in the 7th grade. Odyssey has come a long way and Mrs. Goodman and her staff has done wonderful things for the school. Most of the teachers are great but the problems I am having with the school now is that they are hiring these teachers that don't have kids, so they don't know how to handle the children, also the other problem is some of these parents have no clue what is going on with their child and they have a lot of bullies now at the school. Also last but not least they are not in a school zone so the the traffic is horrible and the school is in a bad location and also a dangerous intersection which makes it hard to get in the parking lot to drop off and pick which makes the kids miss breakfast (the most important meal of the day) cause they only have 15 minutes for breakfast. In closing we have had great memories of the school but this will be our last year at the school. Sorry to say it but it's time for us to move on.

Odyssey Rocks!!!!!! I have taught at two other schools and wasn't as happy with teaching till I came here!

Odyssey scores 5 stars. I have been in education for over 20 years. Never in all that time have I seen a more dedicated faculty and staff. We are all one big happy learning community.

Give me 5 for a five star school such as Odyssey Academy. We have excellent teachers, wonderful leaders and an outstanding academic program for each student to learn their best and be successful in all settings in and out of school.

Odyssey Academy is an excellent alternative to other schools in Galveston. Our teachers are dedicated and really go the extra mile for all students. We work hard to bridge the gap between home and school. We offer many extracurriculur activities & electives including: cheer, sports, chess, science olympiad, math olympiad, art, world cultures, engineering, yearbook, choir, drama, future cities competition, robotics, web design, game design, and more. We have placed in state competitions for Science Olympiad (State Champs 2011, 3rd place 2012) and recieved honors in Robotics, Future Cities, County Science Fair, and Cheer. We take our 8th graders on a Washington D.C. trip each year. Many of our teachers have been featured educators and recognized in the Top 50 Effective Teachers in Galveston. Our school works hard to give our students every opportunity to experience success. We love our students and our school is a "family". We truly live by our motto, "We are all in this together." Students at Odyssey are well adjusted and well rounded and truly LOVED.
