Former student of Stony Point. So if you're looking on here to evaluate whether you should attend this school or send your kid here, then read this. I know what I'm talking about, I went here for 4 years.

The teachers and classes here are great, however I rated it 1 star. The school administration is horrible. If you ask around with current and graduated students, and me, they will tell you they do not have generally good opinions about the administration and how the school is run. The administrators treat most students terribly and you can really tell most of them have a feeling of superiority to the students and look down on them. They pick favourites and then just ignore everyone else, or are generally rude and unwelcoming. I never felt supported or welcomed by them during my 4 years. Their management style and general way of running things at most times make no sense and events are very chaotic and poorly planned. When there is school-wide information that they want people to know, they are miserable at letting students know or emailing anyone about it.

Again, the teachers themselves are mostly fantastic. But it's hard to feel accepted and welcome when the administration is this bad. They genuinely need to just fire all the higher-ups in that school and start over from scratch.

There are rumours that the student population is quite crazy and generally not great. They don't call us "Stoners Joint" at other schools for nothing. Yes, I'll admit, many of the rumours are true. But it's not as bad as people actually think or say. Again, I really think it's a problem stemming from the administration, and several other factors out of Stony Point's control. The school is not "relaxed" with rules. Rules here are very strict. I mean hell, they literally have people circle the school in golf carts during lunch to make sure no one leaves campus when they're not supposed to, and shut down certain parts of the building to some students during the day. If you're looking for a school that LITERALLY feels like you're going to prison, then by god Stony Point is it! Not all students here are bad, most are not. The good things about the student population get overshadowed by the dumb things a few kids do.

This highschool is not safe for your kids. It has 2700 plus students and classrooms without teachers monitoring. The kids openly fight, do drugs in the bathroom, look up sex on line at school, etc. Walking through the school in what the kids call the mall there is so much pushing, fighting, and so crowded and the students have to go through this everyday, multiple times a day to get to class. The learning environment isn't good either. They lose teachers mid year and do not find a replacement so my child went without an actual AP math teacher from Jan-May. In another class the teacher instead of teaching would play videos of her teaching. She would actually tell the students to be quiet because she was making a video to show to the next class. They also have Tiger Hour for kids to use this time to make up work but kids use this time to wander on campus and off. It is not time spent wisely. Zero hands on learning, zero supervision, and over populated make this school a horrible and scary place to sent your kids.

Stony Point High School is a wonderful school. The demographic of students provides a real world experience. The teachers are passionate about teaching students in a challenging time. The neighboring schools receive far more funding yet Stony Point still shows up for the teachers and students.

There is a problem with this school for not having enough teachers, I've a 10th grader attending, so far, it's almost half of the academic year is getting over, they still didn't bring one. The students were given some materials to self prepare, but, that doesn't go well for all the kids. Just imagine, s 10th grader is self preparing Math with no teacher guidance.

This school does not care about your child’s education. I have had issues getting anyone to call me back for about 2 weeks now! My son is having issues with his teacher being absent & her teaching style and is failing his first class in his entire life and they DO NOT CARE! The principal is horrible! When I called his direct line the first thing he asked me was how I got his number, said he would “look into my issue” and I haven’t heard anything in a week. This school is terrible!

This school is otally unwilling to help children with 504 learning disabilities. The kids leave whenever they want and skip with no repurcussions. I have met with them begging for their help with a 504 child who chronically skips. Their administration is a joke and they just don't care.

My child hasn't mentioned bullying or been involved in any conflict. Anything occurring on campus hasn't affected her sense of safety or enjoyment of her school environment.

We are very pleased with our experience at Stony Point. My child has pride in her school and is offered the courses and experiences available and achieving at the level that I would expect her to anywhere in Round Rock. We have no regrets and are happy to send our second child when he is old enough.

Most of my child's teachers are EXCELLENT and a couple were meh. None were terrible or difficult to deal with, just less than fantastic.

The school does a great job of encouraging strong character. There are lots of club and athletic opportunities for student involvement. The diversity of this school is used as an asset and students are for the most part respectful of their differences. Parents should do a better job teaching character so the school doesn't need to.

Administrators interact with parents and students in a positive way. They do a great job of building traditions and encouraging school pride and spirit. This school has improved a great deal in the past five years.

I have had a child graduate from Stony Point recently and currently have a sophomore attending this school. Overall I have been very pleased with the communication and compassion the staff and teachers have. I have had teachers contact me to invite my child to tutoring when they have seen them struggle but not ask for help during the class. I have three more children that are younger in age and I look forward to my children attending this school. Very happy with my experiences with this school.

They send up daily updates for my child showing what they learned in class and what assignments are due and when they are due.

Great commication within this school. Any time I've ever had a question the staff and teachers have always responded back with the information I needed.

My children have always felt comfortable asking questions if they did not understand and the teachers were very willing to help them out . Also always have before /after school tutoring available if needed.

For those that don't know, STP students are allowed to use their cell phones in class. This was reported to the from office but nothing was done.

We have lived in the Stony Point community for 15 years, and 3 of our children benefit from attending Stony Point High School. High-stakes standardized test scores are only one (and not always the best) measure to evaluate a school and do not always reflect all a school offers. SPHS provided and continues to provide our children with quality academic and extra-curricular experiences and prepared our children to gain admission to top Texas universities and Ivy League graduate school. Our children also were prepared to live in a diverse community much like the global society we work in as adults. All schools have challenges, but not all are reported publicly. You'll know what is occurring at Stony Point-good and bad- and will have administrators and teachers who will support you as you help your student navigate them and prepare for the future.

There are many good things about this school, such as the AP program, the endless options for sports, and student involvement (like the Blue Crew at football games), but there are many things that I do not admire. I've had many of my friends not get a class they really wanted because the other classes were too full and were placed into other classes that did not have anything to do with what they want to do in the future. I've also friends who have gotten their schedule messed up simply because the counselors weren't paying enough attention. I know that there are 2400 kids in this school (more or less), but it wouldn't hurt to at least check to see if the classes that you are giving students are the classes that they actually need or signed up for. My friends have repeatedly tried to ask their counselors for schedule changes only to have no response in return. However, once my friend's parents got involved, their schedules got changed immediately. It seems that most of the staff will only listen to students when their parents get involved. Another thing that I don't like is the emphasis on dress code and how they single students out. I personally believe that the dress code here is too strict, and honestly, who is really going to get distracted by someone's shoulders or legs? And even if you did believe that, it's not fair to put all the blame on girls and say that "boys will be boys". You cannot do that.
There are many small problems at this school that I wish could be solved, but other than that, I think that this school is a fairly average school and I couldn't imagine going anywhere else. - High School Sophomore

I think that the teachers are somewhat effective, depending on what teacher you get. I think that most (as far as I know) of the Academy teachers (health science, business, STEM, etc) are really effective, as they are "specialized" teachers (for lack of a better term), while most of the teachers who teach core classes are not as effective or motivated.

The amount of homework you get really depends on the course and the teacher. If you're in the AP or IB program, you should expect a lot of homework almost every night. In addition, some teachers don't like to give out that much homework, whether it be because of the grading process or the teacher just doesn't want to put any more stress on their students.

This school lacks true leadership. The staff is seems disconnected and ill-equipped to engage the students. Currently the student body demographics is 40% living at or under poverty which adds additional challenges in everyday learning.

Teachers are not required to maintain their websites; so for parents who do attempt to keep their student passing it is a daily challenge to understand what is going on. My student is allowed to log on and play video games when they are suppose to be doing school work. Teachers are aware of this, yet do nothing to address the issues.

There seems to be no formal process for tracking or monitoring students who often fall below passing. In 2015 my student failed 2 classes in their final 6 wks of their last semester, but the grading system was not kept current so I was unable to catch it prior to graduation. My student still was allowed to pass the grade level because the semester grade was passing.

I find it alarming that students and teachers are not held to a higher standard. Administration at every level had and currently has been made aware of these issues, even at the district level, but it remains ongoing and unaddressed.

I would not recommend this school and even if you are living in a white collar / above median income neighborhood please be prepared and explore whether your student will attend this school.

Being an active and engaged parent with a student who states the content is boring and below level for their knowledge poses a challenge. This results in online game playing which seems to be more engaging than doing an English or Engineering assignment.

My child will be attending Stony Point next year. The teachers and staff are making the transition from middle school to high school very easy. The staff has been very willing to promptly answer our questions even though we don't attend the school yet. They have already made my child feel apart of the school and for that I'm grateful. I now have a child who isn't as worried about which school the friends are going to attend and isn't asking for an in-district transfer anymore. Also, I have talked with many other parents who already have kids in Stony Point and they are very happy as well.

We transferred in during the holidays, I thought the vibe of the school was due to everyone anticipating the Christmas break. So far my student says there is a lot of time for socializing and video game playing on cell phones. I was concerned when we were told that some classes were not really actively teaching content and that things were a bit loose. I have attempted contact with the school and have not received a reply. In a school with a population of 2400 students I expect some disconnection from staff but not at the level I see. Take it from me, as a Student forced to go to this school due to where I live, I honestly have to say that this has truly been a horrible experience. Most of the teachers here simply don't care, and the school is overrun with cliques and hate. It's what Stony Point honestly thrives upon. Everyone here has at least seen one fight break out, at a minimum. The counselors and teachers here have literally no time to listen to you, or even your parents at that. This is a school where you can very /easily/ slip through the cracks. They really need to investigate and spend time fixing this schools flaws, Then and only then will this school be a 'good' one to attend, and as of right now, it's very far from it.

This is now my 6th year as a Tiger parent. My oldest daughter graduated 2 years ago and I now have a junior and sophomore here at Stony Point. My kids and I couldn't be happier. These kids take great pride in their school and the parents get really involved as well. The education is great, the teachers are great and we recently got a new principle and you guessed it..... He is great! Mr. Watson was defiantly a wonderful choice for our wonderful Stony Point! The kids all interact with each other so nicely. They really don't care who you are or what differences you might have.

I'm a freshman at Stony Point and i hate how some teachers are treating me by ignoring when i ask for help.I'm also a current band student and they blow you off when you pitch in ideas to make the program better,like i know they have lots of trophies but where's the state ones?I'm the person who wants to go far with the school and Cedar Ridge has been open only for 3 years and made it state along with Round Rock high that is old as our school.Another thing the violence at the school is way out of hand and they just let you off with a warning.Oh and we are called a IB school but heck,no one wants to do,might as well get rid of it.I know I'm only a freshman and people say "oh it will get better"but this is the worst first experience i ever had.

Awesome school. The teacher rate is more like 15 to 1. Those numbers are old1 My daughter graduated with Honors, scholarships, Tigerss in Service. Just an amazing school!

Where to start? The transfer to this school has been a nightmare. The special education process of enrollment is a huge mess and NO ONE communicates. Someone even meet us with an attitude of "we don't do that here". I have been very disappointed with every detail since we enrolled our child. I'm not a hard to please parent or asking for things that he's not legally allowed. His teacher is new and seems kind.
