Awful place if your thinking about sending your kid here think about their mental health first. This school doesnt care about the students at all, they dont listen to student concerns, they dont care about reports of teachers either. All the admin cares about is the dress code and phone policy, not the kids own wellbeing. The counselors pretend to care but do not do anything to actually help the student. My friend got bullied and I left due to the overwhelming attendance policy. Please think about your children's wellbeing first before sending them here.

The teachers at this school have ZERO communication!! It’s like they’re scared or they just don’t want to talk to parents they constantly ignore parents and won’t talk to us. I haven’t talked to any of my child’s teachers in months. I’m the one reaching out to them and most of the time I’m ignored or there extremely short answered like I’m annoying them. They never reach out to me. When the academic dean reaches out to me about grades it’s like how would I know what’s going on the teachers don’t talk to me. If 6th grade is this bad I’m not sure if I want my kid here for the next couple of years. The rave reviews of this being a great school doesn’t seem so true when you actually see what happens behind closed doors. Just another typical nisd school with a lot of issues.

The principle is blissfully unaware of the way the school is. She’s happy and cheerful but I would say uninvolved with what is really going on. The assistant principals both are NOT good at this school. They interrogate and victim blame. They twist the truth and words so the school doesn’t get into trouble. Less incidents less problems for the school. They both have no sympathy and start blaming the victim to get anything on the child even if they’re innocent. It’s almost like they want kids to admit to something they haven’t done just so they don’t have to put consequences on the other kid. The few talks I’ve had with both went horrible I’m not sure how they’re still with the school except that the principal is in lala land. This school has a huge problem with bullies but to the school they say it’s just kids playing around. I would suggest be involved and sit in with any talks from the assistant principle to your child. They will intimidate and interrogate your child and pressure them

My time at this school was honestly one of the worst experiences I’ve had. In sixth grade, I was bullied repeatedly by the same group of students. I reported it multiple times, but nothing was ever done about it — the bullying just continued, and the administration acted like it wasn’t their problem.

My ELA teacher constantly targeted me for no reason. My parents and I reported her more than once, but her behavior never changed. It felt like the school didn’t care how students were treated, even when it was clearly unfair or harmful.

There were also serious safety and hygiene issues. Once, on the way to a volleyball away game, our bus broke down mid-drive, which could’ve been dangerous. The school itself is dirty and poorly maintained — there are bugs everywhere, and a lot of the stall doors in the girls' restroom don’t even lock.

Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this school to anyone. It felt like students' well-being and comfort were never a real priority, and when problems came up, they were ignored instead of solved.

We are moving into our third year at Rawlinson and have been very happy overall. There was an administrative change a year or two prior to our family’s enrollment and from what I’ve heard it’s been a welcome one. Currently all members of the admin team are women, and their approach when managing common middle school issues such as bullying, harassment, social media rumors, conflicts, etc, seems to be one of not just zero tolerance but also empathy and a consistent atmosphere which engages social and emotional learning to be more proactive. They are also responsive when it comes to parent concerns and communication. Middle school is a tough age - both to be a student and an educator/administrator - and there are bound to be conflicts and issues. But as a parent with two students at this school I do feel that my kids are safe, supported, well-educated, and will be prepared for high school.

My only experience is as a substitute teacher. I noticed that students are respectful to each other and to teachers, including subs.
I had heard about previous problems at this school.

For the 2018-2019 year, there is a new principal. Perhaps she's the reason for the positive change.

My daughter rarely has homework, but I also wonder if she's learning much. There are so many distractions and so much disrespect here, it's unreal. I think the teachers waste so much time correcting bad behavior there isn't time to give them any.

There are teachers there that I honestly don't know how they stay. I think most of them COULD be effective but they don't have the backup in administration demanding respect. I can't believe the things that are allowed to fly here, even in class.

No. Way. But this needs to change. This school basically allows the kids to decide what they want to do and how they want to do it. Walk down the halls during any class - you'll see kids skipping class all over the place. Kids talk back to teachers, so the teachers just don't pursue them. There's bullying all over, teachers sleeping on couches during class, kids disrespecting substitutes right in front of them.

I wish I could agree more, but I think this school is headed in the wrong direction and fast. The leadership needs to tell the kids and families what they expect to see, like actual rules, and then enforce them. Seriously. Enforce them. There are way too many crop tops, tongue rings, cell phone issues, and BULLYING. out. the. wahzoo.

They do a good job of dispersing the ALE kids into classes, but I have heard myself how the other kids treat them (and I cannot imagine).

Nope. My daughter was bullied constantly last year by this one boy, and when she stood up for herself to him in a respectable way she was called into the office and told not to bully that child back. That's unreal. The kids were also taken into a series of 6 lectures on bullying. The kids were shown a video about a kid that committed suicide and SO MANY KIDS WERE LAUGHING!!!!!! Unacceptable.

I wish it was better, but it hasn't been. I have two more kids, though, so I want to see it improve. My husband has signed up two years in a row to volunteer with the WatchDogs program for dads, and no one ever called him back. They need to fix this school. Higher up administrators need to be aware of what is really happening in here so they can fix it!

I've spent a whole day here, and LOVE it! The staff was very friendly, and bullying seemed much lower than the amount at my daughters private school. In fact, bullying seems no exsistant. Everything is top notch. Would defietly recommend!

I've been here 1 time and it'll definitely be my last. Rude students, not behaved. Teachers & definitly admimistrators are very rude. You can tell it's just a job for them. Need new staff asap

Rude administrators. From me trying to give my child medicine because he got injured, to trying to sign him out and help him gather his things for the day, they gave me a hard time, were very sarcastic, and rude. We went from a private school to a public school transition just to try it out and I'm highly disappointed. You truly don't get the same care you would in private school. You can tell it's just a job for them here.

Rawlinson middle school was a terrible dangerous situation for my daughter. They did bulling 4 times in one month ! My daughter was very unhappy and afraid every day ! The counselor and the principal do NOT took action in her case , the majority of the children in this school do not respect the teachers , there are fights everyday ! This school is like a jungle of children behaving very bad ! I took my daughter out of this school , now she is safe and happy in a Christian school .

Rawlinson is a great school to be in. I've read a lot of reviews about being popular, etc. was needed in order to "survive" but is actually not true. I started going to Rawlinson in 8th grade and I was the new kid I thought I was going to be bullied but it was the opposite. You could say they "open the doors for me" everyone made me feel like I was at home. They're really nice the staff, and most of the students. There might be bulling in that school but it happens every where. But the thing I liked the most is the flex time it was like you're free period!!! There was dance, soccer, football, basketball, chat room, etc... a lot of fun activities. Thanks to that period my grades were high because you need to have a passing grade in order to be able to have your free period. So if you're planning in attending this school I really recommend it! Plus there's going to be a new principal starting in the school year of 2014/15. So a lot of things might chance!!! Good luck!!!

My grandson's school - Rawlinson - and its outstanding teachers, are doing a wonderful job with its students. How do I know? Because my grandson makes good grades, is motivated to go to school every day, and is excelling in every way. Keep it up Rawlinson.

This school is excellent. The teachers treat the kids with respect and vise versa. Education is highly emphasized as a way to further yourself in life. We have been so impressed with the teacher/parent interaction we have experienced. Our child is enthusiastic about school and has excelled. We attribute this to the great teachers.

I LUV THIS SCHOOL. If you are a nerd, not the school for you. Bullying occurs daily, as well as dhalls and iss. Also, we hav to occupy three rooms for dhall. But i still love the school cuz it is the only school in nisd that acts like a traditional middle school. You gotta hav friends to go here. I fyou dont got friends, you dont got a chance to live at this school. yeah i luv it still cuz i got homies, BYE!
