Sent four children to this school. All of them ended up in good colleges, with great friends and wonderful memories of Sanders Corner.
What else could you ask for?

Sanders Corner is a great school. The Principal is great, he takes the time to learn everyone's name, and is always at the school events. The teachers are very nice and supportive. There are lots of fun activities and experiments in class. It is a fantastic school, I had a wonderful experience at Sanders Corner, and I would definitely recommend it.

The principal of this school is terrible. He is rude to literally everyone, from the front staff to parents and everyone in between . He is often times yelling at staff in front of students and staff. Such a shame because the teachers are great but leadership it’s lacking and it’s shows through every interaction he has with students, teachers and parents. I’m so glad we moved because he is truly a terrible Principal that ruined this school.

I have 2 kids at Sanders Corner. Teachers are wonderful and very nice. My daughter loves Mrs. Zarate, she is awesome, patience and encourage kids to improve learning. Also, she speaks English and Spanish, very helpful if you child speaks English as a second language. Mrs. Brockway teaches in Kindergarten, she is so patience, nice and gentle, kids loves to be in her classroom. Mr. Jacques is our principal, he is very open to talk to you anytime that you need him.

10 minutes of reading and some times addition and subtraction problems was the only homework for a 4th grader until March this year. During the distance learning (thanks to COVID-19) from March through June it was only loads of homework without any teaching.

Ineffective teachers who are mostly lackadaisical make up the staff at this school. Some of them who are up for retirement just try to be strict and seem to care more about discipline over teaching and studies. Difficult subjects like Math and Science are not taught methodically, instead children are asked to watch Youtube videos and Khan Academy videos to learn Math and Science lessons. A few have also know to be biased and practice unconscious discrimination.

The Principal and the County should conduct anonymous surveys to know what's going on in the class and get some feedback about the teachers.

This school takes the easy route and teaches to the middle. The high achievers are not challenged. It is such a shame.

I think there should be minimal to no homework at the elementary school level. Kids feeling "stressed" over too much homework is a sign of lazy teaching, and unfortunately, that happens quite often at Sanders Corner.

Some teachers are fantastic, but most are middling. Some, including my son's teacher this year, are downright awful. They create overly rigid learning environment that don't allow for fun and individual discovery. My son entered this school loving learning and now has a sour taste in his mouth about school. I only hope that next year is better.

Again, the current administration apparently wants the kids to be competitive and rewards arbitrary "good" behavior while not placing ANY emphasis on academic achievement. It would be comically backwards if it didn't involve actual children's education.

The principal is the prime source of problems at the school. He has instituted programs, such as the lunch cup system and the Dazzling Dolphin program, which only serve to make students feel bad about themselves and create an unhealthy environment of competition at the school. This school is in crisis and needs a new principal (and let's get rid of the rude front office staff, while we're at it).

This is a school on a steep downward spiral. We heard wonderful things about the previous principal (and the ratings reflected that). Now, the good teachers are leaving in droves, the culture is one of competitive and stress, and the high achieving students are not given proper challenges.

Homework assigned is sporadic, at best and homework philosophy varies by grade/teacher. Some years, our child has had homework in multiple subjects several nights a week and other years no homework at all.

Principal has put focus on rules inside the school and out(including traffic flow for cars/detailed pickup locations/rules for after school club pickup) with less of an emphasis on academic curriculum/progress. Principal is not approachable.

The school tends to treat these incidents as "learning experiences" for both parties, having both speak to the counselor to "resolve differences" rather than dealing with the bully/behavior directly.

This school used to be fantastic and has gone downhill with the current Principal. Based on test scores, we are very surprised that Loudoun County hasn't intervened to help improve the climate/academic progress at this school.

This school started to slip miserably whrn Mrs Hwang passed away. Time for a change. Just look a Belmont Station, blocks away. Same demographic, much better school. This is a leadership problem.

Absolutely not. This is your typical public school that teaches to the middle. The spelling words my 3rd grader gets (oh and there is NO word study brought home!) Are laughably easy. How long is he going to have to learn to spell because? He had that down in first grade. The curriculum is dummed down.

My daughter spent Kindergarten and 1st grade at another school in the district. That school was heavy on homework and testing. She hated school and performed poorly. Since transferring here, she has rediscovered her love of learning. The teachers are phenomenal, and encourage critical thinking and creativity. Homework is reasonable, and students are given choices, allowing them to be more invested in their learning. I was deeply surprised by the difference between the two schools, when they are in the same district. I am glad we are at Sanders Corner.

2nd teacher Vastardis is a great teacher. She helped kids continuously growing and learning knowledge. She encouraged kids to read and write and appreciate their work. However the new 3rd grade teacher does not know how to teach normal kids or high IQ kids.

It used to be a great school with principal Hwang. Now the new principal does not encourage kids to learn or to read or to write. They are free like wild animals and have a lot of "fun". Several good teachers left school recently and new teachers are very relaxing in their positions.

It is our first year at SC and unfortunately we are not impressed. Leadership and response have been non existent when we express concerns or have questions. Also, the front admin office is unpleasant to work with and seem to dislike their job. They are not welcoming and have been quite rude to our kindergartner. When we asked for a conference after 2nd quarter for no other reason than to feel involved with our son's education and to ask how we can help nurture his education we were greeted with a 'well you called the conference so why are we here'.

It seemed good during our child's 1st and 2nd grade years, but seemed to take a nosedive in year 3. We attempted to communicate with him as promptly and courteously as we could about our growing concerns with our child's teacher (recognizing that he is a human being trying to manage 600+ adolescents and personnel), but he seemed disinterested and inclined to give the teacher in question the benefit of the doubt on every occasion. Understandable, perhaps, but unhelpful. Great at fundraining and other Twitter-ready activities.

SCES teaching seems to cater to the norm and is either incapable of or unwilling to deal with a wider range of learning differences.

Our child experienced instances of emotional or psychological bullying that teacher and administration did not effectively address. The onus usually fell on our child to justify a complaint rather than discipline the perpetrators.

Starting Fall 2016, SCES (as far as we know from our child's class year) either adopted a policy of not forcing teachers to assign homework or dropping homework altogether. Our child brought home virtually no homework the entire school year. Great for the teaching cadre!

Our child had overall positive experiences in the 1st and 2nd grades, but a terrible time of 3rd grade. 3rd grade teacher brought all kinds of personal issues into the classroom and couldn't manage the ensuing chaos and bullying issues that followed. Teacher communicated via e-mail or take-home notebook very sporadically and was frequently absent, once in spring for nearly 3 weeks. Academically, she was competent and friendly on the surface, but her class got worse and worse as the year "progressed."

Some teachers do that, but not our child's Grade 3 teacher, so I'm not aware of anything special the school was doing with respect to instilling these values. They avoided the worst, but didn't achieve the best.

I don't entirely disagree. This school is not necessarily going to aid in compromising your child's character but you just need to guide your child in making smart choices in the friends they are choosing and in who they spend their time with.

The AP is a real problem here at SCES. In my experience I have witnessed both 1st hand and 2nd hand her acting fraudulent, manipulative, deceptive, and incompetent. It just trickles down from there.

There have been highs and there have been lowes with SCES. Many of the highs have been due to teachers who no longer work at Sandras corner. I've been told by school employees, as in more than one, that all the good teachers have either left, are on their way out, I wore are so close to retirement that they don't feel that they can make that kind of a change.

Leadership has fallen off significantly. The percentage of not-great teachers is growing. I've had two kids there and new principal does not seem to have a good handle on how terrible some of the teachers are.

Not recommended.

Our first 2 years at Sander's Corner has been absolutely wonderful. The staff is excellent, the class sizes are good, the PTA is active and they have great events for our kids to attend. I couldn't be happier.

This is the best school that I could have wanted for my son. We moved to the area when my son was in grade 2, now he is in grade 4 and thoroughly enjoys his teachers and school environment. I volunteered throughout his grade 2, teachers were amazing and never made me feel unwanted.

Sanders Corner is a great school. We have been at the school for two years and have nothing but positive things to say about it. Our children are now in First and Second grade, The Principal really sets a positive leadership tone and is extremely visible and accesible to the students and parents. I am impressed that she knows each of my childrens' names in a school with over 600 students. Our class sizes this year are under 20/class which is much better than our old school in Loudoun county. Also, one of our children has an IEP and the Special Education staff/resources are top notch. So glad we moved into this School area!

My daughter started kindergarten last year. In just one year of kinder she has improved a lot. Her reading , vocabulary and Maths skills are par to Grade 1 students. Miss Brockway is a dedicated and loving teacher and she has helped a lot in grooming my daugther.
