For the most part most of the staff is amazing. Have not seen much from the art department ( other schools have art exhibits or art around school building) the same goes for music ( others school have many events for all grades not just 5th) plus my children do not enjoy music says its more of an all over class and teacher can be rude one is glad they soon will enter middle school the other stuck for couple more years..when it comes to bullying one has an amazing teacher that has been able to deal with bullying within her classroom the other seems like is a constant issue yet my child says you are not suppose to address the bully as a bully they should have parents pick up their child if they keep disrupting class or their child keep hitting others or name calling. I get it they are children but should be enforced both at home and school. Some children seem very entitled and parents as well

I have three children that have had the pleasure of attending Algonkian. All three have had wonderful teachers that have been kind, supportive and motivating. The staff and administrators are also exceptionally caring and always front and center to say hi each morning and make your kids feel seen each day. One of my children has special needs and he had a wonderful team to support him through his unique learning journey. Another of my children is currently in an advanced math track in middle school and tests above the 90th National percentile for his reading scores. Cant say enough good things about this school.

My child was bullied, discriminated against and this was not brought to the principals attention. My child was scared of the teacher because she would bang her desk loudly. I would never recommend this school to any child. They truly try to foucus on tearing students confidence. They seem to target minority kids especially. My child never felt welcome or comfortable there. Shame on all of them!

We are under special permission, and thankful for it. I can see my child thriving ! I do wish the school did more stem related activities sooner for children and specially girls, to encourage stem. While the parking lot is small the parent and staff work together great at pick up drop offs.

Within my child's first two months at this school, she was bullied, discriminated against, picked on by her teachers, and learned next to nothing. Her guidance counselor was supportive, but that can only go so far when her own teachers did not provide her with the support she needed. The other children at the school have also complained about certain issues such as these, and if it weren't for my daughter's new friends, I would have her transferred out immediately.

Absolutely. Teaches our kids to be part of a community.

Mr. Blubaugh (principal) runs a tight but fair ship. He takes the success of his teachers and students personally.

Because Loudoun County is changing so quickly I feel like we are unprepared. Still, teachers strive to accommodate and go out of their way to make sure no one is left behind. I know special ed parents who requested Algonkian because the staff is amazing!

No tolerance but the school is more of a community so any time there is an incident the school isn't the only one addressing it.
Posted: August 25, 2019
yes they don't believe in a ton of homework if any at all. It alleviates the added stress on the kids and students and allows for time to play learning games and learn to socialize instead of non stop paperwork with parents after school has ended for the day.
Posted: August 25, 2019
Yes! They make sure to keep up with the latest teaching methods and are constantly modifying curriculum so that even though the county has a hard time keeping up as we grow so quickly are kids leave the school prepared!

I have 3 kids... Small school feel that you don't see in this area, Involved PTA, responsive and responsible staff, caring families trying to build a community not just send their kids to school. I can't say enough good things about Algonkian! They are inclusive, fair, open to change and informed. Basically an over achiever school. Or maybe it's just the principle, staff and teachers. :-). I always remind people, you can't get better evidence about how amazing the Algonkian school is than to see how many teachers live in our community and if they don't, bring their kids to the school. This school is that good!

My son goes to Algonkian and he loves it. The teachers are great as well as the administration. Every morning, you will see the principal, administrators, teachers, and volunteers standing outside helping students get out of their cars and into class. It could be pouring down rain and they're still out there helping kids.

We have been so happy with our experience at this school. I've had three children attend and each of their teachers has been great. The administration is fantastic, the office staff is friendly, and the support staff has been so so helpful. I have two children with special needs and I really feel the staff has gone above and beyond in helping my children find success in the classroom. As a prior elementary teacher myself, I have been impressed by the professionalism and kindness we've found in this school. Really, I could not say enough good things.

My experience with this school was primarily with the special education program. I was very disappointed with the treatment I received. The teacher provided inaccurate information regarding students performance and progress as she took the request for additional assistance for my child as a personal affront. Part of being a good teacher and educator is recognizing kids who need additional help. I wish GreatSchools had a section for rating the Special Education services of schools, or allowing parents to comment on them specifically.

The school uses a positive reward based behavior modification system. I feel that this provides a safe environment where a kid feels comfortable being honest (without fear of getting into trouble) and then rewards good behavior .

Everyone at the school has been welcoming and wonderful with my son. The school has a small, homey feel. The new leadership is stellar. My son is getting a great eduction that I am confident will prepare him for success in middle school and beyond.

This is a great school with dedicated teachers and very involved PTA. My daughter loves going to school everyday. New principal Mr. Blubaugh is excellent.

Teachers were so unhappy with the principal that there was a mass exodus. Morale is low there. The teachers seem to teach to the mean and do not individually challenge or motivate the students.

We have great hopes for the new principal of the school, as the last one managed to practically kill it. The teachers were unhappy and left in droves. The good points for Algonkian are that the teachers do really care, and they have fantastic support staff.

Sadly, Algonkian has been declining the past few years with our new principal. Our ranking on "greatschools.org" has gone down dramatically, we have lost fantastic teachers and the moral at the school is an all time low.

So happy with the education that my child has received, the dedication of the teachers, the plays and all of the activities that Algonkian Elementary provides. Fantastic job and thank you!
