The car rider line in the morning are extremely long due to other parents getting sports equipment out their back trunk or the line moving extremely slow. Also if you drop your kids off on the side of the road you can risk getting your car hit by incoming traffic going to the high school. This is my only complaint overall there needs to be a faster drop off in the morning because some parents have middle school and high school that need to be on time for school at 7:40 am

Our student started NKMS in 6th grade this year.
This has been by far the worst school year of his academic career thus far. Multiple teachers have been fired for various reasons. We struggle to get teachers to follow the 504 plan. We have had teachers refuse to have a conference with us because they didn't know what to say that our student was doing 'fine'. (He barely hovers over a D in the class). Our student does well in most classes (a's and b's) but we have struggled with two classes in particular and don't seem to get any resolution.

The administration and guidance team mean well; there just doesn't seem to be any follow through for kids with disabilities.
If you have a child who is gifted WITH a disability; forget about it.

We loved the elementary school in New Kent. The Middle School has been a complete nightmare. It really feels like a free-for-all where the students are just left to their own accord on their devices all day. No ownership from teachers or the school as to what is happening in the classrooms.

Nice staff and students but the food here is disgusting. I forgot my lunch at home and I got school food and felt sick the next day and also the food had plastic in it. I recommend you pack your lunch!

This school needs better disciplinarians. The one they had for 2022-2023 doesn’t discipline according to their handbook. The principal is no help either and doesn’t know the handbook nor does he enforce it. I can see that it starts at the top as even the superintendent doesn’t enforce it and doesn’t hold disciplinarians or principals responsible. Even the schools ratings have dropped with the current superintendent. I can say it’s a reflection of his leadership or lack their of.

This school it's the wrodt I have been to one of my parents are from Costa Rica and because of that kids of my school treat me different they make fun of my accent the teachers treat me like English was my first language and they give a bunch of homework then they don't actually teach I got good grades but I don't know pretty anything from eight grade next year I'm going to high school I haven't learned anything my older sibling test me the other day and I ended up don't knowing anything and I Blame all to the school on my old school Everytime I was tested I knew everything now I don't also I know a lot of kids who don't have friends on this school and teachers see them seating alone on the table and they act like they don't care. This was this girl which she didn't have any friends but two and then the principal told her to set on her original table even though she was alone for the rest of lunch and then I saw her running to the restroom crying after she got to set alone. There is too many kids who don't have many friends and people act like they don't care which is a big problem.

Good school in a great community. Staff and faculty have been great. New school administrators have done a great job improving the environment over the past couple years.

My younger daughter is in eight grade here and started in New Kent County schools in her 6th grade year. We moved to NK from the west end of Henrico, and having had an older daughter go to private and Henrico county schools until she graduated a few years ago, I can tell you that New Kent schools have been a God send compared the Henrico County schools. The teachers are awesome and the administration has been great too. My daughter has been a lot happier at NKMS, than she ever was in Henrico schools.

The school facility is very nice, redone gym, bright, large cafeteria, but more than that the teachers are very engaged and interested in their students. Guidance & Administration are very helpful and address your students needs & concerns. The option for multiple honors classes (English, math, science, even art), create great learning environment & options for students to excel! Sports programs and coaches are encouraging. Wish they had an orchestra, but over all terrific institution of learning!

The band program at the middle school use to be amazing my child loved it then they got a new teacher this year. From what I can tell she is a flutist who only understands flutes she creates testing and actually gives grades it an elective extracurricular activity! I told my child that band was a safe place where you will always be accepted and as long as you do your best and give it your all you will be fine. Mind you I could have at least been contacted or given some kind of explanation instead im left with a child who wants to give up. What kind of encouragement and assistance does this school offer when even in band you are marked a failure. The new teacher is terrible so if bandis an important activity for your child this is not the middle school for you. The high school program on the up side is incredible!

My 8th grade student doesn't know what naive, detrimental, and many other common words mean. She claims to have never heard of Newton, Aristotle, or Socrates. She makes A's B's and C's; judge for yourselves.

the facility is good. teachers some are great. most are dreadful. the principle main job from what i can tell is to micromanage and handcuff the staff. he is a control freak who likes to go by the book when its convenient for him. teaching is spotty at best. over all this is a bad school . but the problem starts at the top . and remember this is my opinion.
