Huntington Middle School has dedicated teachers who genuinely care about their students and work hard under difficult circumstances including navigating instruction while their classroom technology (Chromebooks) was removed and secured by an individual who does not appear on the school's faculty or staff directory, yet was still entering classrooms to direct teachers on how to conduct their lessons. That kind of disruption to the instructional environment is unacceptable, and those teachers deserve recognition for continuing to find ways to reach and remediate students despite it.

Unfortunately, the strengths of the teaching staff are significantly undermined by serious administrative shortcomings. Planned student activities such as field days were cancelled, reflecting a lack of organizational capacity and follow-through at the leadership level. Assistant principals were often unresponsive to time-sensitive or straightforward concerns, leaving staff and families without timely answers or support. Disciplinary responses were inconsistent, which erodes trust and creates an unstable environment for students and teachers alike. Basic operational duties such as sorting and filing staff mail were handled carelessly, suggesting a broader culture of disorganization within the front office.

For the school to improve, several changes are needed: clear accountability standards for administrative staff, transparent and consistently enforced discipline policies, better event planning infrastructure, and a formal review of who has authority to enter classrooms and direct instructional staff. Parents and the community deserve a school where strong teachers are supported not undermined by the people above them.

Overall being at this school has been a terrible experience. Threats of violence, racial comments and jokes, and a lack of any real challenge for my student. I am looking to transfer my student at the end of the year. The bus ride is almost 45 minutes each direction. I will be continuing my search for a house in a better school district throughout the coming months.

What Homework? According to my student, the homework is so easy that it can be completed within the first 10 minutes of the 45 minute bus ride.

The teachers have to structure their lessons for the students that struggle to keep up, which makes it difficult for my student to actually have an effective educational experience.

Unfortunately, it seems that this school breeds more racial inequality and disrespect across racial lines more times than not.

Time and time again my student has had issues with other students threatening them or slinging racial comments at them. Not to mention, the leadership states that they have a very robust Gifted Program, but it is a joke so far.

My student is a Magnet Student. They have gone from being around the 50% mark for intelligence, not the smartest but not the least intelligent (in previous grade), to the top 3% and constantly gets made fun of or questioned about getting good grades. Next to no challenge, and the challenge that is present is due to a lack of comprehensive instruction.

I don't honestly know how to answer this question. I have been told that the kids who threatened my student were dealt with, but it has happened more than twice this year so far. It is ridiculous.
