I was bullied daily in the school, assaulted with little to no response from staff.
I’d never go back, never send my children there and would recommend everyone stay away from this dilapidated building and the staff that doesn’t seem to care.

Maury high school is by far one of the worst school I’ve attended and I’ve been to several high schools. For starters there’s clearly a race issue not among students but the teachers. They tend to have lower expectations for African American students. I’ve never been to a school where most of the black students are not in the correct grade and the school does nothing but recommend dropping out or getting a GED. I’ve noticed that school Administrators really aren’t doing their job at all not concerned about the students at all unless a fight happens. I’ve been here almost 2 years and I’ve only seen the principle 2 times and some students don’t know what she looks like at all. My parents sent me here because a teacher here knows my mom telling her Maury was the best school in Norfolk but if this is the best I can’t imagine the others. School lunch is terrible and the bathrooms are always dirty and it seems like there’s always a bomb threat. When you’re enrolled in this school you have to go through guidance which is new to me but the staff in guidance is beyond rude and guidance counselor are useless unless you’re lucky enough to get Mr.Price. All the teachers are unorganized and all over the place handing out papers and expecting students to keep them until the end of the school year. Some of the teachers are entirely to Buddy Buddy with students. The amount of time to get to class isn’t long enough since the hallways are overcrowded and students skip freely which is a terrible thing. Overall I wouldn’t recommend sending your child to any school in Norfolk.

Parents beware....the doors to all classrooms lock as soon s the bell rings. Kids are not permitted ANY freedom in this school. NO bathroom usage the first 15 or last 15 mins of each class...which only leaves them the middle of the class hour when the teacher is instructing and does not want to let them interrupt. Kids are not allowed to leave the school for any reason - including lunch. Some of the teachers teach by handing out paperwork both in class and as homework - they do very little to really interact with the students. And the contact I have had with the guidance office and Asst. Principals has been horrible. The ceiling tiles in the cafeteria are either filthy or missing and the school in general has been let go. I chose to send my child here out of district, and am pulling her out as soon as the year is over. Horrible, horrible school.
