This has been by far the worst experience of my life and my childrens life do not move your children in the area. They have to go to Somerdale. If you have to ask Hodges Manor of elementary for a school zone waiver your child will be bullied by teacher and staff as well as their peers. None of the teachers up there have a passion for tension. They dont like the children they dont protect the children and leadership does absolutely nothing about it. They praise the kids with a bad behavior probably because theyre scared of their parents. Dont send your child to Simondale elementary in Portsmouth, Virginia.

As a former parent of Simonsdale we had a wonderful experience. The Principal King and staff made the experience great for the children and Parents.
I was a bit apprehensive about the change from my childs elementary school in Chesapeake to Portsmouth. However, I was pleasantly surprised about the facility and overall environment. The Principal and front office were patient with all my questions and communicated any concerns. They held parent - teacher conferences, PTA meetings, and other events that got the community involved.
My child is never excited about school but one Teacher incorporated Hamilton into the curriculum which was excellent and got all the kids excited to learn. I can go on and on about this school. Even the measures taken during and after an isolated safety concern showed safety was and is paramount.

I took my child to Simonsdale K-6 and I am highly disappointed. Its one of the better schools in the district and its great if you have a younger child. For children in the higher grades (5th and 6th) thats where the main drama and bullying starts though the administration does nothing about it. Kids get mentally and physically bullied and the administration does absolutely nothing. Kids get switched classes because of this but its the victims that get switched and the bullies simply get no punishment or if anything, ISS. Its incredibly chaotic there in general. They have great staff, just not the ones in charge. They simply have favorites and wouldnt recommend this school to anyone I know currently.

They are very involved. I ran into one at one of my sons baseball game. She came to support him and the other kids from the school. Very thoughtful.

Kindergarten was a little heavy on the homework, but our son was struggling a bit too. 1st grade was reduced dramatically.

We have had ONE issue in the two years our oldest has been there. I reported the issue to the office at 9am, before 1030 I received a call from the counselor saying she had talked to the boys individually and together to resolve the issue. I love their quick and thorough response.

Great teachers. Staff is always front and center where they see a need. I have a son in kindergarten and another son in second grade there. I know when they are there that they are safe and cared for.

Great School!!!! My child transferred from private school, and it has been a great transition. The staff is great. This is one of the best schools in Portsmouth, not to mention that it is a newer school.
