In the 24-25 school year, there has already been school and student threats on a monthly basis, more than once a month. We're only two months into the school year. I am tempted to pull my child out of that school. There needs to be something done. I don't feel enough is being done due too so many threats. Just talking to the patents and giving little discipline to the accused is not enough. There needs to be more displinary actions taken. This is unnaccetable!

This school was a hot mess. The teachers either don't show up half the time or barely teach. Half the time it felt like the teachers just gave us reading material then sat there doing nothing. They barely cared about our emotions and opinions and would put stupid restrictions like only having 3 bathroom trips per-day. The bathrooms, of course, were disgusting and rarely nothing came of it. The teachers are so out of touch and have unrealistic expectations of doing dozens of assignments per week. COVID was the worst of it with teachers quitting giving us "Permanent Subs" who barely knew how the grading app worked which led to many of my completed assignments being labeled as missing. Being sick was basically a sin there, with teachers blaming the kids when they missed school sick. Plus the amount of fights at this school was crazy. Teachers would always threaten referrals or suspension yet do nothing with these threats. It feels like the administration lost grip on the students and just let them go wild. There were some good teachers, but most of them obviously didn't care and just did the job for the money. It felt as if the teachers rushed their job just to get home faster. The only good part was in 8th grade when we went on a field trip to Dave & Busters, but that was a fraction of that 3 year escapade. This is definitely a time of my life I WONT miss.

My child was sexually assaulted by another students and the school deemed it inappropriate touching. The VB School Board parent liason use to work there and they're buddy buddy so that was no help filing a complaint against them in the handling of that situation. Since then, my student has been labeled the problem by the administration. My child had been bullied ever since the incident and no one has stopped it and whenever my daughter stands up for herself, she's given a punishment not the other student. My students has been threatened to be jumped numerous times. She goes to school scared every day. I've tried to work with the school to come with an appropriate solution bit all they worry about is the equality for the student in the wrong... even the SRO there is terrible. The administration and front desk just gossip about my student and I'm quite sure other students as well. They're childish. Some of the teachers there are too. Some are actually cussing at students. There'sittle to no communication between the school and parents. It feels like they intentionally want to keep the parents out but solely blame the students for the climate of the school. The climate starts from the top down. The students are only a reflection of the authority there. Like I said official complaints won't work here. They're all in this together smh. Don't send your children here. I have no clue why they all still have their jobs.

We have never seen such lazy teachers!!! The teachers are always out and all they do is take everything from the internet off quizlet! Work is due "whenever" and there is no homework. Most of the teachers are nice and kind but wow, they stay home for weeks if they have a little sniffle. No homework at all!!

I feel like the only good part about this school is that I have friends there, and after school activities. activities... the school is also REALLY bias.

Most of the teachers don’t even check the homework you did. They just see if there is writing on it then the mark it correct, how am I supposed to learn if I got something wrong

I feel so sorry for the teachers, only decent ones, who have to put up with terrible students, who constantly get into fights, yell out profanity, disrespect their teachers and do nothing but fool around in class. Some classes have students who are few years behind their years that 8th graders still don't get it - learning 4th grade math. Just pathetic.

After 3 years I am not at all impressed with this school. Practices and clubs are often cancelled at the last minute with not even one hour notice given to parents who transport their kids to and from school because the behavior on the buses is out of control. Disappointed kids expecting to go on a field trip adventure are let down at the very last minute (multiple times) because transportation was not confirmed. The secretary inside the school office (data tech) is condescending and consistently rude to both parents and students. It feels like a prison when you are there, even as a parent. Lots of fights almost daily. I could go on and on. Amazingly, most of the teachers are really good, if you can put up with all of the other stuff. So glad my kid is almost out of there!

I would honestly rate it a zero if I could. This school is so unorganized, and unprofessional. I have had 3 field trips get canceled because transportation was not set up right. Things like this happen all the time at our school.

My child has just finished the first quarter of 6th grade at LMS. I am pleasantly pleased with the quality of teachers, after school enrichment opportunities/clubs and the administration. The transition from elementary school to middle has been pretty seamless. As a parent, I am relieved to NOT hear stories of out right bullying or "bad kids." Of course kids are kids, so I am sure there are cliques and groups and not everyone is "nice" however my child has not come home talking negatively about any kids, and actually, I hear quite a few good things going on about kids being caring and helpful towards one another. During the summer, 8th grade leaders put together a mock day program for rising 6th graders, which was a fantastic event to help quell the nerves of the kids and since school has started, they have maintained friendships with the kids, which I think is fantastic! Leading by example! As a parent, I also have been pleased with the communication from the teachers. It is not elementary school, I do not have the same kind of relationships with the teachers...however when I have had questions, I have had near immediate response from them and am confident that my child is not being "forgotten" in class. My child has thrived in the classes, been challenged and when needed a touch more help, the teachers have been there. I can say nothing but positive things about our experience at LMS, straight up the pole to the administration. Every interaction with Dr. Hoyle has been pleasant and I have personally witnessed her in the lunchroom with the kids and I have been impressed with her interaction with them. She is in there with them everyday. Lunch looks like a fun place to be and while the kids mostly sit with their homeroom class, they do earn freedom Fridays and opportunities to mix it up and sit as they chose. Dr. Hoyle has a committee of kids throughout each grade level to speak on behalf of the "student voice" and they propose new ideas/ways of doing some things. Again, I think that is such a great example of leading by example. My child is happy...I hear good and similar things from other parents currently at LMS...and I couldn't ask for anything more.

All the teachers I have encountered in 6th grade have been wonderful. On par with the best teachers my child has had. I was not expecting to like the teaching style of 4 different teachers, nor have my child like each teacher but I have been pleasantly pleased that we both like them all. My child's grades reflect that.

Having two kids who both went through Lynnhaven with vastly different experiences gives me mixed feelings about this school. My son was in advanced classes and had a very good experience for the most part. My daughter, on the other hand, had an awful time at LMS. Big difference between the kids in advanced and the kids in core. Not thrilled with some of her teachers, who seemed to see her learning disability as an inconvenience and treated her as such. Some, however, were good advocates for her. I don't think the "trouble" kids were given the discipline they deserved and they were very disruptive to the kids who actually wanted (and possibly struggled) to learn. My daughter flat out refused to go to First Colonial because she couldn't bear the idea of being around those same kids. I know middle school kids can be a difficult bunch by nature but feel if discipline were better and more consistent at LMS, it would not be as bad.

Not pleased with the administration. Guidance, Mr. Oberlander, is unavailable in times of crisis and class scheduling. The principal, Dr Hoyle, is unapproachable, unpleasant, and condescending. I don't expect warm and fuzzy from her but I do expect respect when I am attentive to the needs of my child and his teachers. Teachers are not responding to time sensitive emails. Nurse assistant is unpleasant and difficult to work with for both parents and students. The RN is approachable and understanding. Zero problems in elementary school and now it seems like nothing but problems. Looking forward to having both of my children in high school!!!

It's a great school I loved going there for 6th grade but in 7th grade there was a new principle and it was very poor at that point. She had the teachers walk the kids in single file lines like we were in elementary school! I am kind of glad I moved and am not going to this school. I felt that if I did I wouldn't be prepared for high school at all if I continues here if the principle didn't change her ways which I doubt she wil. I doubt she even cared about the students.

My daughter has been going to this school for 1.5 years and is about to move on tonhigh school. My opinion of this school is not a good one. There are always fights, like a ridulous amount. The principal seems to not care about the students at all. At one of the sports awards nights. She spoke a minute and when she was done she pointed to her watch, looked at the athletic director and left. She did that two out of the three times in one year at the sports awards. At the city finals track meet, she left before it was.over when the girls team had already had an undefeated season and also took 1st place in the city championships. There was no plaque made with the girls name on it, no big sigh hung in the gym . NOTHING was donr for all of thier hard work. She is also the type of person that tries to speak articulated to make herself sound smart, when actually it sounds like she is make up words that no one had heard of. If I was given a choice my daughter would not have gone to this school

My child loved going to Lynnhaven!! The teachers are caring and my child really enjoyed school here. The only negative is that the teacher/parent communication is lacking. I really wish the teachers would send out a weekly email with assignments. I think this would help my child be more organized and help parents be more involved.

Not too pleased with this school. My oldest child entered 6th grade this year. The parent-teacher communication is lacking. It has been hard going from such an awesome elementary school to this middle school.

This school was ok for my 6th and 7th grade year but my eighth grade year it went downhill. Most of the teachers are amazing at this school and they are blessed to have them. The administration has a prison-like approach to working with kids. For example, in eighth grade, the new principal started having the teachers walk the kids single file down to lunch. These are kids that are supposed to be getting ready for high school! After school activities are the worst. The groups that kids try out for select only a few people each and the same people get into all of them. The school does not recognize how many amazing people attend the school. Also the blocks (classes) are about two hours and you learn the entire time with no breaks. The lack of school spirit is amazing at this school. Almost everyone seems to hate coming. As a student I am surprised how low down a school can go in a matter of months. I hope that most will have a better experience than I have had at Lynnhaven Middle School. I usually don't write reviews but this school has made my 8th grade year horrible and I dearly hope some changes will be made at this school.

Lynnhaven middle is a good school with very kind teachers that are very nice and helpful. I have been there for 3 years and I am about to finish the 8th grade. This is a good school but the only bad thing is all of the drama and the fighting . About a month ago there was 5 fights in one day. I saw all of them and there were about 8 kids that were in OSS
