Our family has had the pleasure of attending St. Pius X Catholic School for 10 years now and currently have all 4 of our children enrolled. Our kids have felt loved, encouraged, and appropriately challenged throughout their time there and have consistently *enjoyed* going to school. As parents we couldn't ask for more than the solid foundation St. Pius offers. We started our oldest (now 7th grader) in the Pre-K program years ago with the intention of determining whether St. Pius might be a good fit for elementary school. She (and the other siblings) haven't wanted to leave since! Our kids appreciate the close-knit community including their teachers and friends. We are a non-Catholic family (Protestant) and have always felt welcome. As our 3 oldest kids are now part of the amazing athletics program, our love for St. Pius has grown tremendously. Any child in grades 3-8 has the opportunity to participate in team sports and additional activities which significantly enhances their overall experience. Regarding academics, St. Pius is remarkably appropriate for any level student. We've watched Pius grads go to colleges such as the U.S. Naval Academy, Duke, etc. It would be equally beneficial for the student wanting to pursue trade school after high school graduation. St. Pius X is a local gem. We could send our kids to any private school in Hampton Roads and choose this school for the emphasis on Christian values, diverse student population, and the supportive and friendly environment.

I am very thankful to have started my career with St Pius X Catholic School. They began renovations when my career began and I cannot agree more with how much improvement it has made. Halls are brighter, classrooms are cozy, ready for a great day of learning. Teachers are provided with various trainings and development options. Students are provided with a great deal of learning and “specials”. The community with the Parish and Church is remarkable. They really give you the feeling of a second family. If you are looking for a great education for you child(ren), please inquire about a tour of our school!

Avoid. Agree with previous review. My son is much happier since we pulled him from this school. Issues literally vanished overnight. He was punished harshly (frequently). The last straw for us was when he was punished for something he did on a Thursday and was not allowed to attend the Christmas party the next day because of it. He was 4 at the time. I believe he should have been given the opportunity everyday. They literally had no idea what to do. When we looked at the school the teacher was different by the time we actually started. She tried but I believe she had no support and just literally had no idea what to do to support my son the way he needed. He’s at another catholic school now and thriving!

Avoid. The principle is inexperienced and has no idea how to run a school. The teachers are either fresh out of college or old enough to retire. My son had to repeat the grade At a public school after going here. I can’t believe we actually paid for such a subpar educational experience.

Both my boys go there currently. Awesome staff very friendly always have been helpful. School offers before car and after care program. ( extra cost ) the kids love going to school. Highly recommend by two busy parents!

I taught at Pius for years. Overworked, underpaid by 25% compared to public schools. Little teacher professional development courses compared to public. special ed but expected to deal with it. Worked weekends, nights, called in over summer for what should be done during school year. Teachers hired to teach in fields not licensed for. Worked through lunches, no breaks some days at all. Ate .lunch in the classrooms every week and would then have recess duty quite often. Lack of leadership and poor communication. Compters rarely worked in the classrooms but nothing would be done for months on end. Yet, teachers were expected to use technology. Teachers had to teach computer/technology lessons without knowing hw ---Esppecially teachers not up to date in the technology requirements who are way past retirement age. I would never teach there again.
Teachers set up, cooked, served, and cleaned for auction but not permitted to eat the food unless ticket was bought!
Teachers are.not respected bt leafership or office staff but made to feel inferior.

First let me start by saying I was not looking for a private or a Catholic school when we decided on St. Pius. After a brief experience with the public school system here in Norfolk I knew we needed something different. Surprisingly the financial aid program offered was enough for us to make the switch. As the school year progressed my child showed us in every way the benefits of the structured education he received. In addition to now reading a full level above his grade, he loves school. Over the past 2 years we have seen him grow into a little man with integrity. Something extra that is worth every penny we have spent to send him there.

We have tried 3 Catholic schools in 3 years and St. PiusX is the best for our family! Very friendly, caring and supportive administration. Sister Linda, the Principal, is an amazing leader. Our child is so happy and is receiving an excellent education!

I was a student at St. Pius from pre-k through 8th grade. I was in no way the top student in my class at Pius and still I entered into all honors classes in high school. I was shocked when throughout last school year we learned what I already learned and mastered in 6th grade. I looked into the extra curricular activities that most colleges want and am able to fill my applications with extras and AP courses now. I had no idea I was getting such a great start through my St. Pius education.
