I can't imagine having our kids at any other school. NCS is the most loving environment and community, even for us as parents. I was terrified when my oldest reached middle school age but found that even at the upper levels of the school, the teachers are fantastic and honestly care about their students. I now have a grad, a high schooler, and a baby in middle school and I am so happy we chose this as the place to ground them academically and biblically. The education is comparable to the much pricier prep schools in the area but with the advantage of a Christian worldview and a safe environment emotionally, spiritually, and physically. It has been life-changing for all three of them.

NCS has gone woke. Guys cant dress as cheerleaders for the powder puff game because they are worried about the perception. There are pictures of guys from last years game wearing them posted all over the website, social media, and yearbook. So hypocritical.

NCS has had so much turnover the last several years in both teachers and administration. A lot of long time families left due to the weak administration. A new Head of School was finally just hired but it will be an uphill battle for him to turn this school around. The damage has been done by the outgoing head of school Dan Tubbs who stayed in that position far too long. The board is out of touch with the community of parents and let it get to this point where enrollment is the lowest its ever been. Mr. Tubbs continued to put inexperienced leaders in place with no guidance or monitoring. Currently have an interim high school principal, also with no experience or training for this role. Hes continuing down the same path of his predecessors in alienating parents. Theres been no communication to the parents on if he will stay in this role. He doesnt respond to parents emails and clearly showed favoritism to several Senior male students which was clear at graduation and unprofessional. He is not open to hearing concerns from parents and is very defensive anytime an issue is brought to him. He pushed for sexually graphic novels in the classroom, and when the books were removed he got a promotion. There is a vape and drug issue at this school and the favorites are given chance after chance, while others are kicked out. The school is more critical of girls and very strict on them worrying about how short their skirts are while boys get away with anything. The majority of administrative leaders that have left have been women. Two excellent female middle school principals left due to being so frustrated and not having a voice in making decisions. There is no leadership in the school, no oversight or accountability by the Board. This school loves to throw around the word partnership, but its very one sided. They just want your money and blind trust and to not question them. If you are looking at this school for your student, you should wait a couple years to see if things change with the new Head of School and a permanent High School and Middle School principal is put in place. I wish this school the best as our time has come to an end here.

Very positive! Solid academics coupled with a very caring and compassionate environment for the students. Teachers and faculty show a high degree of interest in their students. Opportunities abound for what is a relatively small school. Is NCS immune from the challenges faced by society and schools more generally? No...but they tackle these challenges in an open way and Christian environment - something we appreciate!

100% positive. The level of caring, concern, and commitment to the students is unsurpassed in the Hampton Roads area. Norfolk Christian Schools has dedicated teachers and staff with tremendous talent who could make more money in public education and administration but choose to use their talents to serve God. They have a very efficient reporting system updated on a daily basis and challenge the students to engage in discussions. One of my child's teachers voiced concern about her lack of participation and we worked together to help my child become more active in class.

We have had 2 children who attended NCS from Pre-K 3 to graduation from high school and a 3rd child in the school now and I can say that bullying is roundly condemned and not tolerated in the least.

I have a Second Grader and a Kindergartner that love the friendly teachers and staff. Great Christian school that is centered in Christ and has provided them a great education. We just re-enrolled for our third year and highly recommend to anyone with children or teenagers.

My husband and I wouldn't want to send our children to any other school. We both graduated from Norfolk Christian and are so excited to have our children be Ambassadors as well. It is a wonderful environment for our children and family. Excellent academics with a Christian World View. The teachers and administrators really care about the children and work so hard to meet all of their needs. We love Norfolk Christian and give the school our highest recommendation.

Honestly, we have struggled at other schools. We actually came to NCS at the end of the first quarter as things got bad at our daughter's last school. I have been really blown away by the leadership in all the key areas. Great teachers, and more than anything, a great culture in the school. Another girl tried to bully my daughter and said some really bad things, and before any teachers could correct her, most of the class (students) confronted her and shut her down. What an incredible thing that was for my daughter to see. We love NCS!!

Enrolling my child at Norfolk Christian was the best decision we have ever made. He is in high school at the Upper School and the administration, teachers and classmates are wonderful. The administration stays on top of issues and policies that affect the students and make sure they are safe and respected. They are truly guiding these young minds and hearts to be Ambassadors for Christ and upstanding citizens in our community. Administration and teachers lead with true passion and compassion for not just the students, but also the families of students. I encourage everyone to enroll their child/children into this school and can say without any hesitation it is truly the very best private Christian school anywhere in Hampton Roads.

I am a senior at Norfolk Christian and have been here since 6th grade. I have had a wonderful experience here. My fellow students are all encouraging and loving towards one another. We all genuinely want the best for our classmates. Our teachers are wonderful as well. You can tell that they genuinely love us and want the best for us. It is easy to get help from them if you are confused on an assignment or topic discussed in class. They are always willing to talk if you come to them about personal matters, no matter how big or small. The administration is very involved with the community and they work hard at making the school the best environment for students and teachers to thrive in. Norfolk Christian is full of love and welcomes anyone and everyone.

All schools have their good qualities and weaknesses and Norfolk Christian in no exception. Our kids have been in public schools and several private schools ranging from "elite" college prep academies to small Christian schools on both coasts, and NCS has been the best experience by far. The classes are just the right size and the teachers have a genuine fondness for the kids. It's a very family-like atmosphere and Christian faith is openly embraced and practiced without pushing the kids away from it. The athletic department works hard to ensure kids engage in sports and have fun doing it. One of my kids plays a varsity sport and would have never had a chance to play at a large public school. To be fair, weaknesses include a very confusing parking and drop-off process. But their space is limited and the staff pitches in to make it safe. Overall, we highly recommend NCS to anyone looking for a solid Christian school that emphasizes character and strong academics.

My son has been at Norfolk Christian since Kindergarten and I just enrolled him for his Senior year. Every day of his schooling has been spent under the guidance of the amazing staff and teachers at this school. The reason we first enrolled at NCS all those years ago was for the Biblical education and it is top notch. The way the curriculum is arranged, it really provides all the knowledge the kids need in order to know who Jesus is and then they wrap up in their last years of high school with subjects like issues, ethics and apologetics to help set them into the world. Its been a priceless education. To say the teachers are exceptional is an understatement. They are mentors, educators, spiritual advisors, and friends to my son. Also, the school has amazing sports and coaches but our experience has been in the Fine Arts department. It is such a blessing for my son to express his creativity with theater and music with directors who teach and guide with a Christian worldview. NCS has been worth every penny of tuition. I know after my son graduates next year, he will look back on his years here with great joy and fond memories.

I heard a parent say to another parent that Norfolk Christian is not a perfect school. No school is perfect, but boy do they work hard on being excellent. I have found that the leadership is always available to discuss any topic and to handle any situation in a timely manner. They are really open to hearing all sides and finding solutions that make sense. I like that this school has a student peer lead council for when another student gets in trouble. They hear the case, deliberate and then decide the consequences for the student in question. The teachers are very committed to the students. When my child was struggling academically, there was so much support and grace. It was so reassuring and kind.

Do your research on this school. This school has been declining over the last few years under the current administration in both quality of education and strong leadership, yet tuition continues to increase. The current administration is running what was once an excellent school into the ground by their poor decisions. Both families and long term teachers are choosing to leave, even in the middle of the year because they are so frustrated. Due to the decline in enrollment, the school is now facing financial hardships yet the board does nothing about it. The board does not even engage with the school community or address what are glaring concerns.

The high school principal has forced out long time teachers only to replace them with teachers who lack the experience and credentials for the job they were hired for. The high school principals only experience in the classroom is that of an Art teacher. He hired a teacher without verifying any of his credentials, who did not even have a degree from an accredited college. Once this monumental error was brought to light, he remained the principal and continues to make poor hiring decisions. The school is supposed to be college preparatory but how can that be when teachers are hired to teach a class they dont even have the background to teach and arent certified to teach that subject? Now the school is pushing their online school which costs even more.

The school cant afford to pay teachers a reasonable salary, yet they continue to add new unnecessary administrative roles. The middle school currently has their third principal within three years. The current one works for the parents and is respected by the parents and possesses much experience, but it remains to be seen if she will last under the current leadership. There is no longer any consistency within the school and the instability is unsettling to both parents and teachers.

The school lacks a clear discipline policy and even if caught doing something serious it will be forgiven and grace extended over and over. Bullying is not dealt with effectively. Again chances are given over and over and the victim is never taken seriously and treated like they are the problem.

One thing that I love the most about Norfolk Christian is its community. When I first came to the school, people come and talk to me and actively try to include me. We had a school trip to DC for a weekend. I did not bring a coat because I have no idea how cold DC can be while the snow is melting. A friend offered me her coat because she does not want me to get sicker (yeah I had strep and had no idea). So I end up had her coat while she walks in 35 degrees with only a sweatshirt on. This is truly a community of Christs ambassadors. Its not to say we are a school saints. Surely there are still dramas from time to time (because we are human and we are teenagers). But in general, the NCS student communitys atmosphere is genuinely kind and loving.

I am currently a student here and the things I have experienced and the ways I have been treated by the upper school principle are just sad. Norfolk Christian is a public school with prayer. The kids have their cliques and do not allow other kids in. The way they treat the kids who struggle with their faith is everything but biblical. They are judgmental and hurtful towards non-Christian students, they make them feel like an outcast. The upper school principal is not equipped to work with high schoolers and he makes us feel looked down upon and judged if we do anything that is not "Biblical." Yet the way he treats the students is wrong and definitely not biblical. The school is all about money. If 2 different students 1 rich and 1 not rich commit the same "crime" the way they deal with it is totally different. They will barely do anything to the rich student while the poor student is being punished badly. They do this so they can keep the rich happy so they keep giving them money. Overall NCS is not what they say they are and I strongly recommend to not send your kids here.

My experience is mixed... which makes me state that this school or any school is not for everybody. My older son who has attended NCS 8th-12th loves NCS and has thrived here. He is an exceptional student and has played 3 sports. NCS has definitely prepared him for college, and he was accepted early decision to VA Tech. My younger son has struggled here in middle school with complaints of too much homework, "it's too hard", too many rules, the teachers don't teach, etc. For him, the environment is too small, as he has a big personality and wants to transfer to a much larger public school next year. I feel the Christian base does instill leadership skills and integrity.

I love Norfolk Christian Schools. It is more than just a school, it is family. I have gone there since third grade and I feel so close with all of the teachers, staff, and students there. Also, the fine arts program is amazing! Our chorus is such a blessing to everyone and is taught by only the best of the best, Mrs.Nachtigal. Over all, it is just one big family and you will immediately fall with Norfolk Christian Schools.

The statistics on this school need to be updated. It is now a very diverse school with great students who are overall respectful and kind. The administration has tightened up on academics and discipline (the review that stated that all a child had to do was apologize is completely false) and the principal, Mrs. DeMik, mentioned in another review has been fired. It really is a shame how many great teachers and families were lost under her administration, but she should no longer be a problem. The only sub-par area of this school is the food. The quality has been up and down throughout the years, but it has improved. Overall, great school, and great community.

The academics at NCS are sub-standard. If you are interested in your child/ren merely memorizing and regurgitating information, this is the school for you. If, however, you are looking for an academically challenging curriculum, look elsewhere. More troublesome is the lack of Christian values imparted NCS. There is absolutely no discipline at this school. The children are rude and disrespectful. They lie, cheat, and steal. If they are caught misbehaving, and that's a big IF, they are only required to apologize and ask for forgiveness, regardless of the infraction. The students are not learning that they are consequences for their actions. The majority of the staff talks the talk and but does not walk the walk. The teachers are lazy and unresponsive. They come by it honestly as the administration is wholly unresponsive to parents' concerns as well and outright lies. NCS is run by nepotism; if it is a family, the best way to describe its hiring practices is incestuous. The number of students who have parents who work at the school and attendant problems that causes with the lack of discipline and academics means NCS will never rise above mediocrity. While there are a few good teachers scattered throughout the school (upper and lower), they do not justify the tuition. Even if this school were free, it would be a waste of your and your child/ren's time. I would ask you to inquire about the decline in enrollment, but the administration would lie to you as it does to the current parents.

My daughter had attended Norfolk Christian since she was in first grade. She is entering 6th grade this year and we have had a wonderful experience thus far. NCS is so much more than a school...it is more like a family. The teachers treat the children with love and respect and work to discover and celebrate each child's unique skills and talents. The environment is nurturing and my daughter is thriving. I consider my tuition money well spent as my daughter is learning in an environment that is supportive, builds her character as well as her knowledge, and is free from some of the distractions in other schools (bullying, fighting, drugs, etc.).

My daughter, who is 11 and entering 6th grade, has been at Norfolk Christian since 1st grade. During that time Norfolk Christian has been much more than a school to us. The teachers and faculty treat the children with love and respect and we have never had an issue with the children mistreating each other. Character development, knowledge of God's word and a solid academic underpinning make Norfolk Christian a wonderful place for my child to grow, learn and thrive!

My children are well prepared for college and for life; academically, physically and spiritually. The children's maturity and grounding in the Lord has developed far beyond my expectations largely as a result of the education that they have received at Norfolk Christian Schools.

They are amazing and are completely dedicated to helping the kids receive an excellent education in a Christian environment. We LOVE Norfolk Christian. We have three children, all whom have attended NCS since they were elementary school age. All three have different learning styles and all three have thrived there. The academics are top-notch but, by far, the more important factor for us has been that all three have grown exponentially in their faith. Most faculty members go above and beyond to nurture their students and hold themselves to a very high standard. Over the years that we have been a part of this community we have seen a lot of changes but most have been for the good. There are still a few teachers who are not as strong as others but that is true in every school. I am really surprised by some of the negative reviews on this site...what the have said has not been our experience at all. I suggest visiting the school and take a tour. It is a special place!

After two years, I can no longer recommend this school to anyone. They care more about money and competing with schools out of their league, than they do about their families. They have made some drastic decisions, terminating excellent teachers, and forcing assessments and strict performance. It used to be about family, now it's just about money.

NCS is a good school that still needs to grow and embrace diversity more in the student body, staff, and faculty. As a member of the NCS community, it can be very difficult for new students who have had no prior affiliation with the school to fit in and feel at home as well as employees who come more diverse ethnicities or from outside the long-time alumni and parent base. NCS is also be a very loving place where children can grow deeply in their understanding of and love for Christ. It is also a school community that can alienate and be judgemental without seeking to understand or accept the truth about the schools shortcomings. Overall, NCS IS A SCHOOL TO BE PROUD OF, and like anything built by human beings, still is a work in progress.

I dislike the school, I currently go there and they have a mindset of how a christian should be and if you are not how they think you should be they are very judgmental and hurtful. The children their are very rude and it is hard to make friends because its such a small school and the majority of the kids have been "besties" since pre-k so its hard to fit in and feel at home.

I am not only an alum of Norfolk Christian (after all 12 years), I am now a parent of 2 students in middle and high school, and I could not be happier. I was a little shocked at a couple of the reviews here but I guess there will never be 100% love for anything! They are certainly not representative of the parent body. I also went to school when there was no ac in the high school but that was fixed in the 80's so I'm a little puzzled by that odd rant. And I can only think of one reason a parent would not receive a report card and that is because money is due for something. I have worked with all three principals at NCS and no one would ever be denied their children's grades, especially for 3 years running. Norfolk Christian was a great place when I was there (even un-air-conditioned!) and is even better now. Loving teachers, awesome curriculum and AP classes in upper grades, great athletics. I wouldn't dream of sending my kids elsewhere.
