This school is owned and operated by some.of the dirtiest, money hungry back stabbers in Virginia Beach. First they tell the families they're dedicated to educating our children and beg us to please 're enroll for the upcoming school year. Just 2 weeks later they tell their teachers and staff they've sold half the school property to one of the dirtiest builders in Virginia Beach (no surprise that his name appears on the parent advisory committee) and that the school will be closing so they can ride into the sunset debt free. Just 24 hours after that announcement came the announcement that the school will be open. And now again 2 weeks after that announcement comes a phone call that the school is indeed closing. They've signed teacher contracts and taken thousands of dollars from families that would have been looking elsewhere for schools for their children if they had been honest from the very beginning and said they wanted to take the money and run. They're no more dedicated to educating children than my lazy house cat. Shame on all of them for misleading innocent children and families and making us all believe there was something bright and hopeful waiting to happen at BLP.

I have been going to Baylake Pines for 4 years now and I love it! I have excelled in all of my subjects and love all of the teachers. This is my 5th school and by far the best. All of the teachers are willing to help with problems. We just got new computers that are fully updated. Almost all of the middle school students participate in sports. It is a loving environment and everyone feels like family.

My son and daughter have been going to this school for over 6 years. The self esteem, and level of confidence that they have received from the teachers will follow then for the rest of their life . The family within the school gives the kids a chance to flourish and come out of their cocoon to become the butterfly that they are meant to be. The fact that every teacher at the school knows both of my kids by name really means something. The P.E. teacher Mrs. Beasley really encouraged my child to join a sport team while he may not have been the best player he was willing to give it a try. To have a school where the teachers actually take the time to really get to know your kids and to only help they excel means the world. My son was sick for a month of school which was stressful on its own the teachers really went all out to help him catch up. Mrs. Stearney was willing on her own time to tutor him and helped him with what was missed in class. Each teacher has giving my kids something special along the way to make them excel and become the wonderful kids they are today.

My son has went to this school for 8 years. I can't say enough about BayLake. Great teachers, great programs, summer programs, traditions, classes, teachers and just an all around A+ school. BayLake is the best school in the VA Beach area.

Wonderful school. The negative reviews are only because this is anonymous. I have taken my son to almost all the after school functions, to school, summer camps, programs and school for the last 11 years. I can say for a fact that this school is great. The faculty is amazing. Although our son is about to graduate, we will be back with our daughters. We love Baylake!

I have gone to Baylake Pines since pre-school and it has been an excellent experience. There are great teachers and great students. Baylake pines is a well educated school and will go on for many years to come.

We love this school! He was nohappy at his previous school and felt that he didnt fit in! This school gave him self confidence and made him feel like he was part of a family! Extremely caring and compassionate staff and students!

We love this school. Our daughter loves this school. I must admit I was hesitant to send her to Baylake Pines School since we live in a decent public school district (and we could use the money...). However, after two years at Baylake Pines I am completely sold. The education and "life" values taught at Baylake Pines are simply priceless. You will not find anything that compares in any public school (or more expensive private school, for that matter).

The teachers at baylake are amazing! They are the most loving and encouraging! They take the time and effort to recognize and applaud all accomplishments! The one on one time and education and guidance that is given is priceless! The faculty and fellow parents at baylake make ya feel like family from the first time you walk in the door! Hands down baylake is the best thing tpo happen to my daughter and our family!

My wife and I have had four children go through various levels of this school. We have had one, or more, of our children enrolled in BLP for 15 years, continuously and during that time have over 28 years of childhood educational experience with the school. It is an AMAZING school! The teachers are committed to caring for, nurturing and teaching your kids. They operate at an accelerated rate that is above the local public schools, even though we live in an area with "very good" public education. Some of the comments stated and repeated here are silly. The administrator pours her heart, life and love into the school and has the best interests of the students and their families at the center of how she operates it. Parental involvement...if some haven't felt like their involvement was encouraged, then they had their heads in the sand. My wife, especially, has opportunity to involve herself almost daily...and the teachers and administrators LOVE it! Two of our kids are in college now, two are in elementary school. No school locally can compare. If you are thinking about it, and have the chance, enroll your children. They will thrive, and be loved and encouraged. AMAZING SCHOOL!!!

My children have attended Baylake Pines since they were in preschool at 3 years old. My daughter will be graduating from 8th grade this year with Honors as she has maintained throughout her career here at Baylake Pines and moving onto the Health Science Academy at Bayside High School. My son is in the 5th grade and will be coming back to Baylake for his middle school years. He is an excellent student, but has a few subjects that are a challenge and the family at Baylake pines exceedingly meets his needs with love, compassion, and the one on one attention that he requires. The class sizes are small and all the children's needs are able to be met by the teacher's. The teacher's are the best in the beach, they really LOVE what they do and truly enjoy being with the children and watching them blossom into well educated and well rounded individuals. I highly recommend Baylake Pines to anyone looking for a great place to entrust your children's education and well being.

My two children have been at Baylake since the three year old program and my son is now a seventh grader and my daughter a second grader. The reason I initially chose Baylake was for the small class sizes but my kids have gotten so much more than just that. Baylake is a loving and wonderful place to be. The curriculum is challenging and the teachers treat each student like their own. The teachers are always accessible and available to speak to parents and will help in anyway to make school a positive and successful experience for kids. I have watched my children thrive and really come into their own identities because of the nurturing environment at the school. They have a quiet self confidence that shines through in everything they do. If you're looking for a state of the art building and grounds type of school, then Baylake is not for you. But if you are seeking a school that considers the whole child and encourages them to grow in each facet of their personalities, then Baylake is the right choice. There is no "perfect school" but Baylake has been the perfect place for my family.

We have had our 3 children at Baylake Pines School for going on 5 years. We have absolutely fallen in love with the teachers and staff at this school. Both the upper and lower schools have the most caring, compassionate and approachable people you can imagine. We feel that the academic programs are fantastic and teachers work hard to offer challenges for the gifted students while encouraging those who need extra help in some areas. There are wonderful after school programs at the lower school. We love this school and are so excited to be a part of the future here. A very special place!

Our children have been at Baylake Pines for four years, ever since we moved back to the area and it has been a godsend! The teachers have mastered the art of being caring and yet academically challenging. Everyone in the school knows both of my children by name (as well as us parents). Middle school has given my daughter a superb foundation in math, Science, composition, grammar, music, French, and art while allowing her personality to bloom in a small, caring environment. This school has given my children an education but in a way that they are better people for having been there. We just love this school!

Bay Lake Pines School This school has been a mainstay in Va Beach for over forty years. Thank you BLP for the education you have provided my four children over the past eight years. I am very appreciative of the staff, teachers, and coaches that have positively influenced my children. Special thanks for Ms. Beasly for loving and teaching the kids like they were her own. Thank you for the dynamic duo of Ms. Waite & Ms. Sterny for the best one two punch in elementary education. Thank you Mr. Taylor & Mr. Hall for teaching the middle school young men core values that are in such supply in todays society. The education you have provided countless individuals in our community has been priceless. Brett Kassir

Baylake Pines is a fabulous school. The teachers are amazing and the "family" feeling permeates throughout. If what you want is an advanced education that also fosters character, then this is the place for you.

BLP is a wonderful, caring place for children to learn and grow. I agree that the facilities are not state-of-the art (but not nearly as out of date as some posters would lead you to believe), but I am more interested in my child getting a great education in a loving, supportive environment than I am in "shiny things." My child was at a school that had all the bells and whistles previously, but the school was more interested in selling that aspect of the school than caring for and educating the children. I can attest that my child's well-being and education are the primary concerns of her teachers at Baylake Pines. Don't judge a book by it's cover!

This school is a treasure in this area. Both my children are flourishing here, and I agree that the new director of the lower school is phenomenal. The teachers care about their students and give them challenges based on their abilities--- kids who need more attention get it, but kids who are gifted and need extra challenges are connected with them as well. The school cares about the character of the kids, recognizing that that part of education is learning how to become a good citizen and part of a community. I am pleased that parental involvement is encouraged but parents are not forced to take on unreasonable tasks (as is sometimes done at other schools). Come inside and meet the folks who make this a wonderful place to educate children, and talk to the parents who love it-- everything that's truly physically needed is there--from a great outside area to run around outside to brand new computers-- but it's the people and teachers that make it wonderful.

My children and I have been a part of the Baylake family for the last three years. Both of my children have flourished there and the teaches are amazing. The new director of the lower school cares a great deal about parental involvement and the small class sizes promote constant parent/ teacher interaction. I know every child in my children's classes and most of their parents. BLP is a family that I am truly proud to be a part of!

Not a great experience for our family -ancient workbooks for EVERY child. No independent teaching at all and for what we are paying, I expect more than that. Same homework, boring worksheets for every child. We will not be returning. My child has not been challenged at all and I am afraid is behind academically.

This has been a fine experience for our children. The kids have been treated fairly and have been given an opportunity to learn. We fell very fortunate to have found this gem of school in the Hampton Roads area.

This review I read posted below was true for me. I went to Baylake for two years and had the most self-esteem crushing time of my life: "Past reviews I feel are very important now- "Principal is VERY controlling.. Minimal parent involvement encouraged" - "disappointed in the principal.. amount of control & power she has" - atmosphere of intimidation among staff & director - warned 'not to get on her bad side!' Wonder why the upper classes are small? This "atmosphere" isn't confined to staff, a caste like system filters entire school. A child can also be on the "outs list" which = psycological damage & pain" SO TRUE! PLEASE DON'T PUT YOUR LOVED ONES THROUGH THIS!!

My nieces and nephews attend this school and they absolutely love it! The teachers are friendly and enjoy teaching!

If you're looking for an accelerated curriculum, a nurturing environment with individualized, student focused teaching, an award winning foreign language program, PE and recess daily, music and art instruction/appreciation, as well as open communication in a non-institutional environment, this is the place. We live in the "top rated public school district" (quoted from our Va. Pilot newspaper) but not every place is for every child. Its the parent's responsibility to determine what that is. Our experience (over 6 years with 2 children) is that the lines of communication are wide open between the teachers, administration and parents, family involvement and input is encouraged (and should be required- after all, its your child) and there is a ton of love at BLP. Its hearbreaking to hear about any child having a negative experience at any school. Hopefully the Oct. 2010 poster found a better fit for his/her child. Would be curious to hear about the rest of that story (what drove the initial school change, etc.) By the way, I went through our VB public schools and turned out just fine.
