My experience has been nothing but wonderful transitioning into Collegiate. The staff are kind and always open when I have questions asked about what is going on inside the classroom and hallways.

Lots of fun and engaging community events for parents to meet others that may be new to the area.

As an Alumni who attended all 12 years and a parent of two kids who have attended since kindergarten (11 and 9 years), we use to love and be heavily involved with this school, however sadly the school has lost its way in the past five years or so and the administration at the upper school is incompetent to say the least. If you go there don't ever dare to question or advocate for your child or you'll be canceled, which is funny since we were asked to advocate on behalf of the school year end and year out. They will tell you what you want to hear, but dig deep in your research, ask around, buyer beware. They are no longer the Mighty Oaks. Oh, and they have the audacity to charge Norfolk Academy tuition levels for far fewer academic opportunities, support, and extracurricular activities for your children. We are the McCoy's and hopefully I just saved you some money.

I attend the school a few years ago. and I can promise you not much is changed. Worst experience of my life. Do not ever send your child here unless you want them to get bullied, harassed, and or assaulted. administration is awful to you unless if you have money.

This school has taken a complete nosedive in the last five years. There was always a strong sense that if you not an alumnus, child of of faculty/admin., and/or a donor, you are an outsider and thus your child is treated unfairly - Despite that you pay save as or more than those other people. (Because they receive a price break for having multiple students or being a teacher there.) The educational quality is very poor. We have to constantly follow up, be vigilant about and argue with administrators over the failing state of affairs. There is no parity with sports- they recruit AAU basketball players and discriminate against actual paying students. All focus is exclusively on basketball and soccer to the exclusion of all other sports and activities. Uniforms that are old, nasty and used for everything else, except the two chosen sports. Food is abysmally nasty. Again, many complaints but they refuse to take ownership and fix it. Rampant vaping and bullying to the extreme. Curriculum and pure extremist CRT agenda was funded secretly and has caused such a toxic environment where the students are largely miserable, little to no value and meanwhile they attempt to indoctrinate your child. The leadership stubbornly refuses to follow the law or listen to parents. My advice: Keep looking as there are several other private schools that are a better investment where your student will receive an actual education and feel empowered to be successful.

Ill keep this brief, three reasons you should not send your child to Norfolk Collegiate:

1. The children of the faculty will bully your child without consequence

2. The 9:1 student teacher ratio is misleading. Kindergarten is actually 16:1you can get that kind of ratio at the public school across the street. For free.

3. In one weeks time you will receive a letter from the head of school stating tuition is increasing +10%, a reenrollment contract and an invitation to participate in their day of giving (as if the $20k you pay a year isnt enoughwell its not when 45% of the school are children of the faculty)

Excuse me, the other review put me as a staff when in fact I am a parent. I am a mother of 4 youngsters, the two oldest were in NC. My experience at NOCO was excellent, I cannot complain from the administration to the janitor, they make you feel like family, the warmth and helpfulness of NC is like no other. Before accepting NC we went to different private schools, couple of the schools made us feel not well received. My children shadowed the ones we were interested in, including NC in the other schools. My children could notice the division among the students, there was no camaraderie among the students, only competition among themselves. until we arrived at NOCO the very friendly and helpful students a unique companionship, the excellent and helpful teachers, the wonderful employees. My oldest son was from 9 to 12 in those 4 years my son who was an introverted boy who did not dare to stand in front of the classroom to give a report because he got nervous to the point that he could not even speak, among his classmates and teachers They helped break his fears by giving him support. my son managed to get out of fear of him and was part of plays at school, he participated in various sports now he is a person who has no limits to achieve his future new goals. Thank you NORFOLK COLLEGIATE you will always be in our hearts.

We are very happy with the middle school curriculum, teachers and general environment for our child. The faculty seem to be genuinely concerned about the kids learning the material, rather than just regurgitating back to them on a test which so many schools do. Their assignments are often project based and not just text book questions and answers. Their teachers develop well planned units around the concepts they need to teach and make the material engaging to the students through the creative ways they ask the student to demonstrate what they have learned from the material or novel read. When my child has been ill, there are open lines of communication and realistic deadlines for work that was missed during their absence. The facilities and grounds are well kept and very clean in general, but with covid they are even better according to my child. We have no experienced any bullying and if you have a concern for your child, the staff is QUICK to respond.

Definitely not. My African American daughter STRUGGLED here. She complained SEVERAL times about racism, nothing was done about it. They even allowed someone else to use her store account without checking ID. The experience was extremely hard for both her , and myself as a parent.

This school is absolutely terrible. The staff at Norfolk Collegiate is highly ineffective and tend to go after kids for the wrong reasons when they should be dealing with important things such as bullying. There are a few good teachers but I can only think of about 3. The other teachers just teach stuff that wont help us later on and have insanely strict rules. A lot of students a stuck up and spoiled and have obviously have never been told no before. Th final thing is the head staff tend to kiss up on the students and the students parents who donate the most to this crappy school and the kids and kids parents who dont arent treated as well. Also the school spends a lot of their money that they get on stupid things when they should be spending on more important things. Overall this school will be happy to take your tuition money but wont give you the safe and strong acedemic environment your child deserves.

This school has a hefty price tag and definitely not worth the money. It has totally turned into a focus on intersectional politically correct indoctrination. The grades and colleges attended by graduates reflect the poor results. Two students were asked to leave due to drugs this year. The assemblies have been turned over to the various social justice causes and any student who is slightly conservative will be bullied by students and a few teachers. The teachers are, for the most part, wonderful but they are slowly being dominated by the champions of social justice as they are turning this school into a re-education camp. The leadership needs to realize parents send their children to this school for education, not sports and indoctrination.

I really hate this school. I was bullied by another student earlier in the year, but that was never dealt with. I have also had a ton of bad experiences with a teacher, who has sent me out of class for things like reading, aggressivly diagraming(this is not a joke), and putting away LEGOs disrespectfully. In addition, 2 students that I know of have been physically harmed by teachers, and some students have dealt with racism. There was also a drug dealer who was expelled and was not mentioned to anybody, even those who had classes with him. And then there are the classes themselves. There is very little focus put on academics, and a lot put on athletics.

Just to say- this is all at the middle school. I have never been a student in the upper school, and the lower school was great. However, this school crashes in middle school.

We had a fabulous experience. Our oldest went to a top 50 college in the ACC on a 75% scholarship. Our youngest was diagnosed 3 different times with learning disabilities. With Norfolk Collegiate great Learning Resource Center she was able to overcome the disabilities. She went to George Mason University and graduate with a 3.2 GPA and in just 4 years.

I switched my son from one private school to another.
Because of that people often ask me why and what I like about the school. My response is not just that I believe my child is getting a premier education, but in addition, I have never seen a private school make diversity and community a top priority. Those two elements are prevalent and make this environment one of the healthiest places I've seen in a long time for a student to thrive in.

Unfortunately all the reviews that rate this school one and two star are very accurate. You (the student and parent) only get the interaction that every parent deserves if you are from the area and an alumni of the school, you donate money to the school, or you are a child of a teacher at the school. This environment is very toxic if you are not part of the established community. Everyone pays the high tuition required for their child to have the best education and experience. Therefore, everyone should receive the same attention. Additionally, the "cliqueyness" of this school is disheartening. The environment is toxic unless you are one of the special few! Don't send your child here!! Spend your money doing something beneficial to your childs future.

I deeply regret enrolling my children in this school. I could have saved a lot of money if I had just sent them to one of the good local public schools or gotten a better value for the money at one of the other private schools. For the money spent, I expected my children to receive a better educatoinal experience and to have a more responsive teaching and administrative staff but such was not the case unless you are major donor to the school.

Bottom line is this school isn't worth the price tag and if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't send my kids here. For the upper school, there has been too much turnover in recent years in key administrators and a number of faculty which has taken the heart out of this school, in my opinion. Most of the teachers seem interested in doing only the minimum. Small class sizes are not an advantage when a teacher doesn't make the material interesting or accessible; the mark of a great teacher isn't how hard it is to get a good grade in the class but rather how the teacher makes difficult material seem easy. If the school really wanted to do better, they should have both students and parents give feedback on teachers, courses and facilities annually. They seem to not really care beyond getting the check.

When we moved to Norfolk 14 years ago, my oldest son started kindergarten at Norfolk Collegiate. His years throughout the lower, middle, and upper school have been a wonderful experience, as they have been for his siblings. NC has offered them challenging academics in an environment that is caring and nurturing. The teachers are excellent and the variety of course offerings is amazing. There are many leadership opportunities, whether in school or through the many extracurricular, sports, or arts programs offered. The college counseling office offers tremendous support and guidance. Now with my oldest a freshman at UVA, I realize that he could not have been better prepared. I can confidently say that NC is the best choice you can make when looking for a school!

After attending this school for many years, it is clear that Norfolk Collegiate provides an excellent educational environment that encourages students to think for themselves. While it can be challenging, students quickly develop a strong work ethic at a young age. Additionally, teachers frequently go out of their way to support students academically and beyond. There are plenty of leadership opportunities and great college counselors. Collegiate combines innovative and traditional teaching methods to produce the most well rounded students in Hampton Roads. Over the past few years, the school built a new Center for the Arts and introduced smart boards into the Lower, Middle, and Upper schools. This year, the school will be using 3-D printers and students in grades 6-12 will each have an iPad. On a more personal note, the students at Norfolk Collegiate are genuinely kind. This bond between the "NoCo" community is one that cannot be found in other schools throughout this region.

Norfolk Collegiate I recently moved to a different part of Virginia and was finally introduced to the real world. Norfolk Collegiate has clueless parents, spoiled children, and an over sheltering staff. Some of the teachers are good, yet when I took math 7, my math teacher taught us NOTHING. She showed only us completely useless power points, so I had to rely on my parents to teach me the subject. It was not a very challenging school except for the 7th grade science teacher who taught the material extraordinarily well. If you are planning to go to this school I advise against all of these "five star reviews." Unless you want your child to attend a school that is "cliquey", has poor education, and you plan on buying your child top of the line Abercrombie&Fitch and Hollister clothes, I advise that you buy a house in Virginia Beach. Your child will develop better social skills, more confidence, and he/she will have more competition in sports not to mention the better education. If you are stuck living in Norfolk I wish you luck in finding a truly, good school, I hope that my review will assist you if you are trying to find a school for your child. The way you want school to be!!!!!! Happy empowered teachers challenging kids in a variety of learning environments. Small classes (20 or less THRU high school). Children gives choices in assignments to fit their learning style. PE everyday. Awesome healthy lunches. Great resource and elective classes. Nurturing environment where teachers are accessible and stay in touch. Can't say enough great things. The school keeps getting better and better.

We have a 1st grader and a 3rd grader at Norfolk Collegiate Lower School, and they have attended since kindergarten. In this area, choosing a school can be a daunting task. We chose and have stuck with NCS due to the community of the school. Our children are not just one of many, they are an incorporated part of the school. Each child knows and interacts with students from all grade levels - both older and younger than they are. The teachers and faculty know each student's personality and watch him/her grow. There was some re-organization at the Lower School of teachers this past year, and it has been for the best of the students and parents. There are many opportunities for the students to become involved - from SCA to violin to science club to tennis. NCS emphasizes the entire student, not just the academics, but also the citizenship of the child in the world.

Academically tailored to our child with a warm caring environment, our child loves Norfolk Collegiate. She has been to other schools over her academic career and this one is the tops. Teachers who care, a staff who knows each child individually and an administration with a vision for the future. Parent involvement can be whatever level you want it to be.

We have two children in school at Norfolk Collegiate and have loved it! They have a very caring and nurturing environment and a true "family" feel. The teachers have been incredible at personalizing instruction an have truly inspired success. For a school this size they have a remarkable number of unique opportunities in the classroom as well as extra-curricular offerings.

My oldest son has been at Norfolk Collegiate since kindergarten, and is now a third grader. My youngest has just started kindergarten. They are both thriving in the warm, caring environment provided by the faculty and staff. The small class size allows the teachers to work individually with the students. They can provide extra challenges or extra assistance as needed. The teachers are always available to talk with my husband and I about any questions or concerns that we may have. Most importantly, my children are excited to go to school and feel part of a community there. They have made wonderful friends at the lower school, and have also had the opportunity to interact with older students at the middle and upper schools who have become role models for them.

My son is a third grader and has been at Norfolk Collegiate since kindergarten. We have had such a great experience at this school - from the smiles and enthusiasm that greet him daily, to all of his amazing teachers, who have challenged and cared for him, to the amazingly warm and approachable staff. When I drop my son off at school each day, I know that he is in a safe, caring environment. When I pick him up each day, I always leave with a smile - it's a happy place where my son is surrounded by the best teachers and staff we could ask for. We look forward to having our daughter there next year!

Norfolk Collegiate has provided a challenging and personalized educational experience for my three children. The teachers have tailored lessons to fit each of my children's abilities, pushing them when necessary and aiding when needed. I have also been amazed at the warmth of all the staff, not just the teachers. They greet the children and me with smiles and hellos. Once the lunch room worker said she told my son he would grow up to do great things because he was so smart. I was amazed that she had gotten to know my child and had conveyed such a positive message to him. When your child is surrounded by people who encourage them, from teachers to staff to lunch room workers, the odds of them succeeding in life are tremendous.

Like several parents, I have been underwhelmed by NCS. Moving from out of state, I expected the school to have a high level of academics, especially given the lip service by the admissions representatives. I have continually tried to address issues that my child is not being challenged and despite platitudes by the principal and the teacher, it has not been adequately addressed over several months. My daughter loves the environment of the school, but her preschool was more rigorous.
