The Boyd School (Reston) is a warm and caring environment where children learn to thrive and develop in ways no other school can. Our daughter started the program with an expressive speech delay and several other issues. Within a very short period of time, she transformed into a bright independent little girl with a thirst for knowledge. We feel the Boyd (Reston) has been instrumental to our daughter's progress. They care for each family and treat us like family. We cannot thank them enough for the encouragement, support, guidance, and care they bring to each child in the school.

It's inconsistent in how they distribute the sound bags each week for the primary kids. The teacher lost master list for kindergarteners for four months!

My daughter started the Boyd School during the summer of this year. Since then, I have a seen a drastic difference in her learning and particularly her speech improvement since joining the toddler program. The teachers, director and the whole environment made her and our whole family very comfortable. We are extremly pleased with her progress and with the school's program. Many thanks to Diana P., Ms. Desiree and Ms. Monica for having made this a smooth transition for our daughter and family.

My child started in the toddler program almost a year ago. I am very happy with the quality of care my child receives from both the teacher and classroom assistant. I am constantly kept in the loop of how my child's day went. Weather he was fuzzy, out of sorts, or simply had a great day! As a mother of a toddler communication is at the top of my list. I have been at this school for a little less than one year but all the staff has always been very welcoming and warm to my family. I highly recommend Boyd.

My child started at The Boyd Schook in Reston a few months ago. We have had such a positive experience. She joined Boyd after attending another local Montessori school. We knew right away that Boyd is a better for us and her. The Director is very welcoming and extremely responsive. Ms Effie and Ms Rosalind are a fantastic team! They both are extremely approachable and routinely communicate to us about the details of her day. I'm excited to see how our daughter will grow at Boyd over the next couple of ears.

My son has been at the Boyd School-Reston for almost three years now. He began in the Toddler program and is now in the Primary program. In choosing a Montessori school for my son, I couldn't be happier with my decision. The teachers are warm, caring and supportive of my son's success. His teacher has helped him to develop independence and a love for learning. He is always excited to go school and never wants to leave. There is never a lack of communication between parents and teachers. I receive weekly emails pertaining to special events or what the children learned that week. His teacher often sends photographs of him working and learning something new. Even though the school may seem small, it maintains a real sense of community between teachers, the director, and even parents. I would highly recommend this school to others.

My children have been in the toddler and primary classrooms for many years and I am disappointed in both. Their kindergarten program has not properly prepared many of their students for first grade whereas the toddler program is a glorified daycare. Many students now leave Boyd to go to public school kindergarten versus staying for Boyd's program. In the primary classrooms the children do learn but the curriculum is far from structured. In other Montessori programs there are typically two certified teachers whereas Boyd only has one certified teacher and then an assistant that is not certified. There has been quite a bit of teacher turnover as well as a considerable amount of turnover in the director role. They have had four directors in a short period of time. In addition to save on costs, the slot was left vacant for quite some time. While this was once a prestigious school in the area, it no longer seems that way. In June, they shut down a classroom and dispersed the children into the other two primary classrooms. At this time, there are only two primary classrooms and they aren t even full. I recommend looking elsewhere for a quality program.

With a common NOVA Type A personality I created a spreadsheet that contained a long list of criteria I wanted for my child for full-time care (e.g., teacher experience, teacher personality/demeanor, cleanliness, schedule options, facility, location to home, student/parent ratio, program, playground, personalization options, menu lunch options, nutrition, activities, parent involvement options, etc.). We had a nanny full-time, so I recognized this was going to be a tough transition no matter where my child would be. However, I've been pleasantly surprised with how this program exceeded my expectations and how kind and talented the teachers and administration have been. The classroom ratio is around 8 kids for the 18m to 3 year old room for two teachers. The only reason I give a four stars instead of five is because I have not been with the school for very long and need more time for a full-assessment.

I've had two children in two different Boyd schools (Broadlands and Reston). Both have HIGH teacher and director turnover rates. There has been scandals at both location about how the teachers are going to competitor schools or starting their own schools. The schools are clean, nice, but VERY expensive for what you get. Some teachers are good and you will see them caring for your child and others are just there for the paycheck and can be a bit saucy/bitter. Both my kids were done with it after 1-2 years. Just too many kids in a young class (22+ kids in a class of 3-5 year olds). No parent involvement or class comraderie.

I have been a parent at the Boyd School for over eight years and while I haven't always been happy with the leadership/management, the teaching has ALWAYS been exceptional. My has been very well prepared to handle anything a traditional education has thrown his way. There is a new head of school this year who is extremely motivated and making one positive decision after another. I would not hesitated to recommend this school to anyone.
