The teachers are fine. The problem is the assistant principal and it’s a serious one.

Everything of consequence runs through him and that’s exactly where fairness dies. He never stops preaching equity yet under his watch the results look like calculated favoritism. Certain students and families always get the soft landing and the benefit of every doubt. Everyone else especially those who don’t fit the currently preferred profile starts every interaction already behind already assumed guilty already on the losing end of the scale. Discipline in his hands is a joke. Some kids skate. Others get the full weight of the code based on little more than his assumptions.

Parents who dare to question him leave feeling worked spun gaslit and quietly managed. Facts are optional when they don’t serve the story he needs. The county even sent him to training last year. Waste of time and money. Nothing changed. The same unethical tilt is still running the show.

This is not leadership. This is a man in the wrong profession who keeps lying and manipulating his way upward anyway. He should not be the final authority around other people’s children. Trust isn’t just missing it’s been actively spent. Until that office is emptied of him treat every interaction with extreme caution.

Leadership Concerns Under Principal Ms. Stacee Huffer
Under the leadership of Ms.Huffer, there appears to be persistent concerns around accountability and academic standards.

When student issues arise that require decisive administrative action, the handling can feel inconsistent and lacking transparency. Clear communication and strong follow-through are critical in a school environment, yet responses often come across as defensive rather than solution-oriented. Instead of building trust with families, the approach can leave parents feeling unheard.
When concerns are raised, parents expect collaboration and ownership — not minimization. Unfortunately, that has not consistently been the experience with Ms Huffer.
Academically, the school also appears to lag behind neighboring districts such as Fairfax County.
Strong schools require strong, accountable leadership and Principal. At present, that is an area that needs meaningful improvement by replacing the principal.

This school is absolutely horrible I was badly injured and hurt from a basketball incident last year and they did nothing about it. This school is horrible don’t go unless you want people that don’t care about you.

The school administration is fully incompetent, untrustworthy, unprofessional, intimidating, and most concerning the school administration at principal, vice principal, and dean levels all lack self awareness and perpetuate inadequacy.

My daughter has complained many times about Harper Park. There is constantly bullying and a lot of hateful speech going on from this school and the administration won’t do much about that. My daughter has been called many rude and hateful words but the same people and she has told the administrators about that person and they said they would talk to them. They did talk to the person but all they got was a “do no do that again” speech. My daughter is about to attend her last year at this school and she can’t wait until she leaves because of the hateful words, violent fights, and the teachers lack of teaching right. I hope this helps anyone with their child going to this school.

I’ll miss this school and my teachers, but I did not learn much, the curriculum is just straight flawed. The safety is questionable. We’ve had shooter threats, hate speech (racism, catcalls, antisemitism), underground bullying that tends to be brushed off, and violent fights. Although some of this is not the staffs fault, bullying has changed and admin and counselors don’t notice, so a lot of people end up taking a mental toll to this neglect even when it is obvious there is an issue. It is a good community however... enthusiastic place with a lot of events trying to engage everyone. It’s sweet.

The bullying is to much here, the food taste like garbage, and the learning is unprofessional and when you forget your agenda the teaachers get mad they wont let you go back to your lockers if you forget something also most the teachers are bad

At this school, there is a lot of fights, on average 2 fights a day. The teachers do nothing about the fights and do not pay attention at all. The food here tastes horrible and tastes like trash, it does not make sense how if a student refuse to wear a mask and then gets in trouble, but it supposedly does make sense that a student does not get in trouble at all for starting a fight.

Excellent school where our child has thrived academically. Socially there is a good amount of bullying and class/ethnic tension but I suspect this is just the reality of affluent suburban middle schools. Anyone reading these reviews from outside the Northern Virginia area should understand the rampant attitude of entitlement and culture of complaint among parents living here so take everything with a grain of salt.

They say that they are for together thing but are gonna start difference ethnic clubs next year also have a LGBTQ+ Group that is not together that’s separating everyone is making school unhealthy and very one sided and dividing. Also I’ve never been on school campus to meet anybody that works for the school not very welcoming. This is the worst district that I’ve ever been to or my son has learned very little here because they are too busy pushing a agenda on kids and relying on YouTube. very sad get your stuff together. very unprofessional for a school district and teachers.

I absolutely could not wait to get out of Harper Park when I went to school there. The bullying from students is horrible and the administration did little to nothing about it, and the bullying had become so bad for me, I had to transfer to another middle school in the county for 8th grade. They have removed all honors classes, which is absurd and no other school in the county has done this, all in the name of making everyone feel equal, which isn't typically the case for education since everyone is at different levels. This is just an unwelcoming school that is disappointing all around from the administration, the teachers and the students. Don't waste your time by considering this school, you will regret it.

I have been to 10 different schools. Yes, 10. I was born in Bulgaria and moved to the USA when I was 8. I didn't know english, and all the schools I went to didn't offer anything good. When I came to Harper Park, I learnt english very quickly. The teachers really know how to teach a student. As you can tell, Harper Park has improved my english spectacularly! For the parents, ask you child what they think and how they are learning before you add a review. You don't learn there, you don't really know how good it is.

Since the departure of the Principal, Mr Shipp, Harper Park has begun a slow downward spiral. Current leadership is lacking and the open door policy with the new Principal is virtually non-existant. There are a few excellent teachers however there are some serious ego issues with many leading to what appears to be power struggles over who is better than who. And it's so unfortunate because when Mr Shipp was around, everyone was on board providing a fantastic educational experience. Quite different than it was before.

I have to agree with the parent submission on February 19th, this school does lack vision and direction. My daughter has 3 honor classes (english, science, history) and receives no homework, while peers in her youth group receives constant homework at different middle schools. I have personally experienced teachers not responding to emails when requesting homework or more challenging work for my daughter . Unfortunately the majority of the students are on the honor roll yet the test scores does not reflect intellectually challenged students...... Most students receives a "Honor Roll" bumper sticker!! I have decided to homeschool my daughter.

Harper Park Middle School is a wonderful place... Two of my three kids have spent three years of their lives there. The staff is committed and are great teachers and administrators!!!
