I would rate my child’s experience as great. She loves going to school and mostly has good things to say about her teachers. I find that the teacher experience changes year to year. We’ve had some great and and some not so great classroom teachers but the principal, counselor, and other staff members have been great for my daughters experience. The school really cares about our kids and if there’s a problem they are quick to work with us to solve it. The community is quiet and my kid is getting a good education especially compared to neighboring counties who don’t give much attention.

I would not recommend this school. Communication between teachers and parents is very poor, and it often feels like important information is not shared until the last minute. The classrooms are overcrowded, and students don’t seem to get the individual attention they need. The building and facilities are outdated, and maintenance issues go unfixed for weeks. I also felt that the administration was not very responsive to concerns, which made it hard to trust that student needs were a priority.

I am very disappointed with the school, my children have been here from Kindergarten to 2nd grade. Our teacher, 2nd grade, is retiring this year. Feels that she is really done with her job.
She prefers girls and doesn’t really care about boys. The girls in her classroom think that they are better than others and bully boys.
The teacher doesn’t treat students equally.

As a parent I feel very helpless!

Only the ESL Teacher in our 2nd grade and Kindergarten teacher seem to be adequate, nice and kind.

I am very disappointed with the school, my children have been here from pre-K to 3rd grade, I used to think that some teachers have problems and lack of ability. Now it is found that there is a problem with the overall education model of the school. Teachers discriminate against students and cannot treat students equally, which makes us very helpless!

Homework for Kindergarten and First grade was optional, and it was more focused on spending time as a family and getting outside or reading.

We were so sad to move away from Hutchinson Farms in the middle of the year due to a job change. My son was a valued member of the community and the teachers were always providing valuable feedback and finding different for my son when he needed more help or had already moved beyond a concept.

I rate my experience at HFES as outstanding and excellent. With an active PTA, effective administration, and stellar faculty, HFES is a great school.

Posted: January 14, 2019

The homework assigned to our student is grade, age, and ability appropriate. When she is ready for more challenge, there are opportunities to extend, including solutions to combat the summer brain drain, after school enrichment, and appropriate assignments for snow days.

We see different styles of teaching at each grade level with our student learning tremendously from each experience. The faculty coordinate and collaborate between grade levels, supporting consistency and the feeling of a learning community.

Posted: January 14, 2019

The Reading Buddies and other peer learning programs within the school develop strengths like integrity, compassion, and respect.

Posted: January 14, 2019

I am surprised to see some of the data points about HFES highlighted by the Great Schools website. If the issues represented by the scores here are real, they do not reflect our experience of the school and its administration.

Posted: January 14, 2019

I see faculty members whose jobs are dedicated to supporting students with learning differences, learning groups within classrooms that support ability and learning style differences, and dedication to building a learning community from every faculty member that I have met.

Posted: January 14, 2019

Proactive, positive community building efforts by the school effectively deal with bullying by combating its roots.

Best teachers, best programs and activities and wonderful staff. LCPS are the best. We moved to Loudoun from Fairfax last year and I am very happy we did. Now both of my kids will be going to Hutchison Farm.

I would definitely have to agree with the last parent. I am a parent of a kindergartener who truly enjoys being a HUSKY. As an administrator in an elementary school, i am delighted to have my girls call HFES home!

What a phenomenal school with caring teachers and administration. My kindergartener enjoys going to school each day. As an educator, I am ecstatic about having my children call HFES home.

I love this school. Teachers are great and they have a lot of activities for the kids.

I really loved this school. Miss Wilkes and Miss Fellows were wonderful with my kids. Miss Wilkes helped my son to become a better student. Wonderful teachers.
