This school has been going down hill for a while. A lot of teacher are there for a paycheck. They cuss and yell at kids and nothing is done about it. The principal does the same and if a parent is involved she yells at them too. The principal is never involved and very lazy. I hope something changes but the Virginia Beach public schools don’t do anything about the issues either.

They do the least amount possible, completed assignments go missing to where you have to send physical pictures to show proof of completed assignments, communication with many are non-exsistent, and a multitude of other factors. I would steer away from this school completely. Go to Salem High.

I’ve had 2 daughters graduate from Landstown. Both were challenge academically by their teachers and pushed to become more than just a name or number on a sheet of paper. They both had teachers that had profound impacts in their lives which they still talk about today. Both of my girls are studying medicine in college and the foundation of how to become a great student started at Landstown High School.

There are only a few bright lights when it comes to the teaching staff. Those teachers love what they do. Most are there to collect a paycheck.

The simple fact of the matter is that kids that are not the gifted students or in the Technology STEM Academy are ignored. Good luck if your kid is a middle of the road student. If your child is into sports and it is not Football, Basketball, track or Soccer you will get horrible coaching. They are teachers that have no clue what they are doing and are there to collect their extra $3000 pay. It does not matter how many students or parents go to the Athletic Director. It never changes. Many sports have many consecutive losing season. In fact many great athletes go to other HS academies just so they can play for a better team. All student athletes deserve the opportunity to have a good coach that can help develop them to the next level.

Classes are divided into A and B days. Each class is about an hour and a half. There are many kids that cannot sit still in a classroom environment that long and not get board out of their mind. Classes that are hands on are the exception of course. If teachers do not make it engaging enough, students loose interest quickly.

There is so much room for improvement. This school as many schools these days are so focused on passing the state tests that actual teaching of information that is needed in the real world is excluded. The required classes in order to graduate are pretty standard. How about a required Financial Planning class so students understand how to balance a bank account, how credit cards can get you in trouble and how a student loan works. We need a better staff in the administration, teaching and coaching. ALL students need to feel encouraged and supported. Not just the gifted few.

The teachers don’t care about students at all they will write you up for just about anything they can think of or kick you out of class for asking a question they feel to be challenging to the info that they have given.

If you go to the administrators they do nothing to help with anything. I was a transfer student from Norfolk and I instantly was wrong with anything I said. I went through all the channels of get my schedule fixed even before the school year and they changed nothing and after the first quarter even tho I was passing I was told to drop out that they make places for people like me.

Over it is bad because when I started here in 10th grade we had good administrators and they worked with the students when teachers caused issues. However those administrators are no longer here and we have assistant principals who were security guards just last year so they really don’t know what they are doing and they don’t care. So my experience started off good and has only gone down from there. To the point we are considering home school for the remainder of my senior year.

Best High school In Virginia Beach , Way better than green run. People always say landstown is for snotty rich kids but twin canal kids go to landstown as well. they have no racial problems unlike green run and my little cousin goes to green run now and gets bullied for being the only white kid in his math class. i wish he could experience the joy of school i did.

Great teachers and staff. new building, my daughters test scores are off the chart. Active parent involvement in the sports community. My son went to a different high school in Virginia Beach that is ranked high but I am so pleased with Landstown for my daughter. I feel she is better prepared for college having attended Landstown High.

This school is the best in the city. My first year was Awesome thanks to a guidance counselor and a great teacher. I will have the best 4 years at Landstown High! Thanks Landstown for being the best! Go eagles! Upcoming 10th grader!

School is very good, second child going here. One went during football years and she did well. Second just came over from different academy and feels better education at home school and more welcome. Not seperated by academy or place and teachers are good. You have college course's and get that out of the way now-great! School has order to it and is safe and students are nice and welcoming at events. Feel nice coming to events people talk to you here. Nice school and teachers are good and classes are in order.

Great school! Beautiful building, great teachers and principal. Lots of different types of kids in the student body. Many AP offerings, its a Govenor's STEM school, and they have the Techonology Academy there.

My boys have had an excellent experience at Landstown, the teachers always offered to stay late & help them or let them make up missed work. They care about the students! Security is excellent! The teachers & staff are excellent! So much that every year for Christmas & the end of the year, I'd buy a bunch of gift cards to different restaurants & give them to staff! My youngest is a senior this year, honor roll all 4 years!! He couldn't have done that without teachers going above & beyond!

My child attended the academy. School is very large so children can easily get off track, few of the teachers will intervene to help. Guidance is overwhelmed and mostly impossible to get help, or anything that will assist the student. Some teachers care but most are just putting in their shift. The academy coordinator is the least helpful of anyone I have ever met in the VB school system. Worst part is that the students don't like her and avoid dealing with her. Wasted position as kids do need support in such a big school. Can't recommend this except for a very mature, self motivated student but of course most 15 year old aren't there yet. The focus is very much on after school activites, which may be difficult for out of zone academy students. High turnover in administration areas

In Virginia Beach, High Schools have Academies attached to their HS. The students zoned for a specific HS go to that HS or they can test or apply to go to a different HS and be in their Academy.

Academies attached to HS are:
1) OCEANLAKES HS- Math Science Advanced Academy – students must test to get in
2) PRINCESS ANNE HS- International Baccalaureate (IB) Advanced Academy- students must test to get in
3) FIRST COLONIAL HS- Legal Studies Academy- students accepted by application
4) BAYSIDE HS- Health Science Academy- students accepted by application
5) SALEM HS- Performing Arts Academy- students accepted by application
6) TALLWOOD HS- Global Studies Academy- students accepted by application
7) LANDSTOWN HS- Technology Academy- students accepted by application

Schools without Academies are:
1) COX HS
2) KELLAM HS
3) GREEN RUN HS
4) KEMPSVILLE HS
