My daughter has attended Atlantic Shores from K-3 (since 2012) and will be a senior next year. We have absolutely LOVED our experience at Shores! The care of the teachers and administration have been excellent. My daughter has had strong academics that are setting her up for success in her college years. She also participated in sports, the arts, foreign languages and cultural experiences, student leadership, and spiritual growth. We would highly recommend Shores for students who would like a well-rounded experience taught from a Biblical world view. I have been very engaged in the school throughout and have not experienced or heard the negative experiences shared in other reviews. In the last 5 years, we have expanded our space to accommodate more students and families, increased safety in meaningful ways, and expanded our curriculum and extracurricular offerings. Couldn't find another better school. Love our Shores family!

The teachers and parents are very stuck up. Most of the students that attend come from wealthy families. The ones that don’t are looked at very differently. The staff and administrators pick at little things like sideburns 1/8 inch too long.

So my kids went there a while ago one left after middle school and the other half way through HS. I’m not certain why there are bad reviews here. I allowed my 2 kids to try typical HS. The workloads were the same if not worse but it was covid craziness . Shores was a wonderful Christian, God centered environment for my children and I regret allowing them to leave. Nothing is perfect it’s a fallen world but the staff tries to put students and God first.

My son had a hearing impairment and their resource center worked so hard with me, the staff, and my son to make sure his learning needs were met. Also, the cost of resource help was 1/10 of what another Christian school close by charged. I also had regular 504 meetings will all my sons teachers and principal together.

We’re there a few bumps, yes but, have they gone through changes- sure, but we are all a work in progress. It’s a rough out there, your kids are fortunate if they can attend a christian private school before going off into the world.

If your child has any type of learning disability save your money and send them to a different school that is more hands on with learning. They push you to get your child tested, placed in their resource program only to not adhere to recommendations provided by the physician nor provide additional work to help with grades as done in the regular classroom. Resource programs are not a one size fits all model which is why students are pulled out of the regular classroom. As a result retention becomes a factor for the student when the administration should take into account - where did they drop the ball for students with disabilities and how can it be corrected in the future. More specialized training is needed for the resource educators especially if charging additional fees on top of tuition and students are being retained.

This school is a disgrace to the name of the Lord. It smells horrendous and the people there are terrible. My child is overwhelmed by homework and sports practices. I get that my child should try to manage but how can they constantly be expected to wake up so early and have HOURS AND HOURS of homework that keeps them up till 1 IN THE MORNING!!! The people are so rude and the teachers cannot handle things well such as bullying and they can't console students when they need help. I don't recommend this school at all for anyone whose child has special needs or an emotional disorder.

Average. We enjoyed it at first, but as time went on, found certain things to be annoying. There is quite a bit of favoritism as well which can happen anywhere, but seems to be more apparent in this type of school environment. Administrative focus seems to be more on making money and recruiting new students than on quality education.

When my child was there, I felt her homework was a bit excessive for an elementary student. I was even overwhelmed at times and I have a postgraduate professional degree.

My child had mainly pretty good teachers while attending. She did form a good foundation for learning.

Near the end of my child’s time there I felt that the administration was more focused on raising money for their new elementary campus to the point of praising those who raised more and somewhat “guilt shaming” those who didn’t.

My child did not have any major academic difficulties, but you have to pay more tuition if your child needs Resource to help them academically and if they are involved in the new STEM Academy.

It was very positive years ago, but now, its makes you wonder what direction the school is going in. Im not even sure the administration is degreed. Additionally, I heard the upper school campus is now taking in a lot of public school kids.

I strongly disagree with the direction the school is taking regarding HW: Unbelievable. The school just got rid of HW?? My child already comes home with nothing to do and low grades, and now she has no HW on top of that. Where does the school get its ideas? This is why I pulled my child! Unbelievable!

The teachers are very nice people, but I have to wonder if they even have degrees. Bullying is excessive, and teachers tend to blame the student being bullied. Teachers should be trained to teach, and not discipline all day. Sensitivity training should be required, especially if the child has a disability.

My child attended the Elementary school for 6 years. If your child has ADD/ADHD please DO NOT consider this school. They will develop a 504 plan but quickly abandon it. The majority of the teachers and staff do not have practical knowledge of either disorder and will quickly label the student as a "problem". For example, a teacher suggested spanking my child on several occasions to correct behavior. Your tuition dollars are WASTED if your child requires any type of resource. The once loving environment of of this school has become judgmental and condemning. The once Christ centered school is now more concerned with the accolades of man, winning awards, increasing enrollment and collecting tuition. Again, if your child has ADD/ADHD save yourself the heartache and enroll somewhere else.

My children attended ASCS for many years but I must say I wasn't terribly impressed once they reached the upper campus but didn't want to take them out because they were comfortable and had developed many friends there. I don't feel AS adjusts and grows, all kids are different and require different attention. For example, if a child has ADD you may have to tell them something more than once not write them up. The discipline seems be completely ridiculous, kids are not dealt with just written up and by time it gets back to them they don't even remember what happened. Why not handle situations when they occur. Very little positive reinforcement is provided, at a Christian school no doubt. I was saddened to hear that 2 of my friends are not sending their kids back next year, Looks like they they would get better.

I am so happy that my children are not only receiving an excellent education, but that they are in an environment that encourages diversity, pushes them towards excellence, and cares for them as individuals. I couldn't be more pleased with the teachers, administrators, range of programs and opportunities. The best part of this school however, is the fact that God is put first and is the foundation for its excellence.

Our 3 children have attended Atlantic Shores for many years now and have received an excellent education. Two of them have graduated and gone on to successful college careers, the third will be taking Dual Enrollment college level classes soon. They have received a well-rounded, Biblical education, with their faith being integrated into every aspect of their lives. The teachers invest in and challenge each student and strive to bring out the best in every child. When there are problems, they are handled with discretion and sensitivity. No school is perfect; the math and science classes at the high school level could be a little stronger, but overall the academic program is excellent. The fine arts and athletic programs are also strong. Our family highly recommends Atlantic Shores Christian School!

Atlantic Shores is one of a kind. My 3 children have blossomed and grown academically, spiritually and emotionally from their time at Atlantic Shores. As a parent, I know that every day my children are being loved and taught from a Biblical perspective. They are exposed to multiple opportunities daily to learn in Specialty classes from experienced educators. Every teacher invests in the lives of my children and the joy of the Lord fills the school. Atlantic Shores values excellent education, Christ centered learning and family relationships. They are excellent communicators and value parental participation. I am blessed to be secure in the fact that my children are gaining more than an education, they are growing in character. Atlantic Shores is an amazing school.

I have four children that span in ages with two who have completed college and two in middle school. Atlantic Shores has done an amazing job with partnering with us as parents with the goal to build Christian character and providing an environment for our children to thrive academically to their fullest potential. The teachers sincerely care about each of our children's success. It says a lot when our kids love coming to school each day. Teachers and Administration are always available and open to discuss questions and concerns. We are super blessed to have a local school that strives for excellence in every way. You cannot find a better, more well rounded CHRISTIAN school in the Tidewater area.

We put our three younger kids at Shores this year and have been so thrilled. We have been to different private schools, public school and even home schooled. This is our "home" and the kids are very happy and thriving. What we appreciate the most about Atlantic Shores is the leadership. We have experienced a humility, vision and strength in the leadership that is not seen at all Christian schools. It is a truly positive learning environment where the teachers and staff genuinely care about all the kids. There is strong discipline without the legalism. The academics are challenging, and the school accommodates different levels of learning. For example, our kids are able to take duel enrollment college courses while at Shores. We are also very happy with the proactive college planning that Shores does. They have great athletics too. Two of our kids are in varsity sports and have really enjoyed it, done well and most importantly continued to grow in their Christian character. We would highly recommend Atlantic Shores.

Atlantic Shores Christian's elementary provides a loving Christian environment that will help your child develop a solid Christian foundation. We were very happy in grades 4-6. Once our child transferred to the secondary campus it was a different experience. The behavioral problems which surface with "preteens" and "teens" are not dealt with appropriately. Discipline is far too lenient. The school is expanding so the need to keep enrollment high is probably will not serve families well. The school is not highly selective in the admissions process; if you can afford the extremely affordable tuition, and the child has no documented severe behavioral or criminial behavior in their background, you're in. At the high school level the academic rigor will not prepare most kids for top tier colleges, but is a more a prep school for Liberty University. We had planned to transition into public schools after the 8th grade, but with all of the factors above including a very bad experience my daughter had where discipline was not administered appropriately, we made the transition after 7th grade. In math and science, the curriculum is quite a bit behind the public schools of chesapeake.

My daughter attended this school last year and we liked the school. There are a few cons I would say about this school though. The tuition is extremely high and when you apply for financial aid, they barely give you enough off to even consider it financial aid. Also they are constantly charging you for stuff. They took pictures several times, created crafts and did other activities and for all the money we paid in tuition I didn't realize we'd be spending a whole lot more throughout the school year. The worst was the Kindergarten graduation, they sent an email saying you could pay $300 to reserve the front row. They are money hungry at this school for sure. The class sizes are pretty big, there were 22 children in my daughters class so I didn't feel like my daughter got the attention she would get if she went to a private school with smaller classes. Lastly, they are teaching common core math which is what public schools are learning and I think that curriculum is horrible. I felt that for all the money we paid in tuition, the curriculum would be different. Overall, if you have money to spend and can afford it, this is a good school.

Great school! Faculty and Administration are warm and inviting. We love the dual enrollment option for our children. Each of our kids have been a part of the fine arts program and love it! Athletically, our student-athletes are challenged and cared for. Couldn't ask for more!

The administration and office staff are organized, accessible, and encouraging to both parents and students. The administrator, Gary Carlson, is a visionary who has cast a multi-year plan, including acquiring additional land, and expansion of school and athletic facilities. The Dual Enrollment and Advanced Placement classes are wonderful under the guidance of Dr. Lyons. Our student now has college credit, while in high school and the GPA advantage to attend the college of choice. The academic faculty, for the most part, communicate class objectives clearly and are accessible to both parents and students.

No school is perfect, but Shores is pretty close. Teachers who love and care for their students. They are willing to go the extra mile to help their students especially teachers at the middle and high school. I have been associated with this school for many, many years and it keeps getting better. You want your children to get a quality education, send them to Atlantic Shores Christian!

I have one child graduating this year, and one promoting to the secondary campus as a 7th grader. This is the only school my two have ever known. The teachers have given them not only a great academic foundation but an amazingly strong spiritual one as well. My oldest will go off to college in the fall, and I am positive Atlantic Shores has prepared him in all aspects, not only to succeed in the classroom but also stand on the christian principles that we, along with the Shores' staff and faculty have taught him. I look forward to see what God has in store for ASCS in the future, and so blessed that my youngest will continue to develop the same qualities as his big brother.

Are you looking for an excellent Christian school? YOU WILL FIND THAT and SO MUCH MORE at Atlantic Shores Christian! The academics are challenging, preparing your student for the rigors of college course work. The athletics department molds children with Christian principles, while creating opportunities for them to shine. Coaches emphasize their strengths and push them to success both on and off the playing field. My student's friends encourage her through prayer and time together in the word, prompted further by the great spiritual team of leaders (teachers and chaplains) that are working together to bring the kids closer to the Lord. The students enjoy missions work, planning trips and activities for Community Service, and they have great Chapel services with a worship band and praise team. Our daughter enjoys Atlantic Shores because of who they expect her to be, she has risen to the challenge. It has been a great fit for our family.

Baseball program is way beyond unethical. Coaches are "horrible" head coach repeats this mantra to ALL the players. very degrading and abusive to the players. Lot of favoritism towards coaches family "friends," regardless of how many errors they make on the field....and if you play on his off season team (which you will pay a lot for) it might help... Stalks the kids if they talk to another coach and threatens them with no playing time. Coaches stayed in rooms with players when out of town. Lot fraternization and socializing--one coach went to prom with several players at another school. don't go here for baseball if you value your child's self esteem. Coach has "yelled" at parents individually on multiple occasions. Administration allows this abusive behavior and conduct.

I love everything about Atlantic Shores! Their staff is friendly. Their administration is great. I have three children that attend Shores from ages 4-11. My children are loved and cared for all day long. They are shown the love of Jesus in all areas. I am so blessed to have my children at such an amazing school !

Overjoyed! That is how we would sum up our experience with Atlantic Shores! The teachers are such a blessing in our lives. They take time to fully communicate with the parent AND the student, providing spiritual and educational guidance and support. The Secondary Campus Guidance Department, Dr. Lyons and Mrs. Graham are incredible and such a benefit to the families they serve. They make it their personal goal to see our children succeed, while in school and in life. When selecting a Christian School, you want to know that your child is surrounded by believers who "walk the talk" and THEY DO! We have been blown away by the academic offerings and spiritual life programming. Mr. Peters, Mr. Glissman, and Mr. Jones are strengthening our childrens faith by giving them real life examples of Christ-in-us ways of living. They have open doors to address situations like bullying, friendships, parent-child disagreements, and how to deepen their spiritual walk. These men invest in our children and genuinely care about their spiritual grounding. We are so happy we came to Shores. The Lord has blessed our family in so many ways!

I pick up a pk student 3 days a week from the after school program. The staff is very friendly and the student I pick up loves the people working there. He always brings home some sort of project or activity that was worked on. I have come away very impressed and thankful that this child is being brought up in a loving, christian atmosphere.

Been at the school a few yrs. Really disappointed in the leadership. BULLYING is out of control; as in other write-ups in this file; among the students, teachers; selective targeting by administration once a kid is labeled. School is driving kids past their limits and have no mercy on putting them in such unhealthy positions. Another write up mentioned teachers write up a kid and never tell them why. It s true. Parents are often not consulted prior to action being taken. I have found teachers at the "Lower Campus" to have little control/supervision of classrooms. Kids allowed make fun of different kids and bully them even worse due to lack of oversight/supervision.

As a mother of two sons who recently graduated, I can say they were well prepared for college! The dual enrollment program gives them access to freshman courses and a great understanding of what college will expect from them. I highly recommend Shores for preparing your child for college!

I love ASCS! The dual enrollment classes are wonderful in preparing students for college. The advanced classes at the elementary level really prepare students for honors, AP, and dual enrollment classes at the upper campus.

Our daughter had an excellent year at ASCS this past year. The quality of education was excellent, and she acquired an outstanding group of new friends. She was able to earn college credit for her AP Literature class. She was able to qualify for dual enrollment courses, so that at the end of her senior year, she will have earned 16 semester hours of college credit.

As a seventh grader, my son is being challenged academically and also helped spiritually through great teacher support and student friendship. He has grown so much this year and his self esteem has soared because of the older students that mentor him and the teachers who take the time to listen and help him with his academics.

As a parent of ASCS graduates I have been thrilled with the spiritual impact the school has made on my children, and the impact it has had on the way they parent their own children. I have watched the school grow over the years, but not compromise in teaching and modeling a Biblical worldview in all areas. Top notch academics too!!

Atlantic Shores Christian School is a great school. We visited all of the Christian schools in the area before selecting ASCS. It is wonderful to have a school that is academically challenging and holds the students spiritually accountable without being legalistic. All of my kids have attended through high school. Two have graduated from ASCS and are now achieving at a very high level at two of the most challenging universities in the country. The teachers care about the students and challenge them to be the best they can be. It has made a hugh impact on my kids. Thank you ASCS.

My children have been going to Shores since K4. My eldest is at the upper campus and youngest the elementary. Both have had excellent experiences thus far. Spiritual and academic excellence drives everything they do at ASCS. Teachers and coaches are experienced and deliberate in their efforts to challenge, improve and (most importantly) love my kids. Atlantic Shores is awesome!
