Im writing this as parent with a child that had been recently enrolled, because I wish I had more current reviews before deciding to enroll my child in The Court House Academy.
This school is not what it used to be. Years ago, it had a strong reputation and long-standing teachers who had been there for 20+ years. Unfortunately, since the administration changed, there has been a clear decline. All those experienced teachers are gone, and the turnover now is extremely concerning.
The biggest problem is the constant teacher turnover during the school year. Teachers leave in the middle of the term, and the classrooms never seem to have stability. This has seriously disrupted the curriculum and, more importantly, it has made my child feel uneasy. Children need consistency to feel secure and ready to learn. When my child kept seeing new teachers every few weeks, it created confusion and a lack of trust in the classroom environment to the point that drop offs went to a happy and smooth process to a nightmare because she didnt want to be there.
In our case, my child had five different teachers in just the first quarter of the school year. Since then, the Spanish teachers were continued rotating with no clear continuity. Because of this, my child did not learn Spanish at the level the school promotes. Honestly, she learned more Spanish during a one-month visit with her grandparents than she did the entire year at this school, which was very disappointing.
What makes this even more frustrating is the lack of communication from the administration. Parents are not properly informed when these teachers changes happen. We always find out after seeing the new teachers when we drop off, which does not build trust and leaves us feeling out of the loop.
Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this school. The instability in staffing, poor communication, and overall decline since the administration change have had a real negative impact on our childs learning and sense of security.

Would not recommend unless your child is perfect and fits in a box. Not supportive of children they deem and inappropriately diagnose as on the spectrum. In fact, they will give you zero notice and tell you not to come back the next day, leaving you to scramble for childcare.

When we first started coming to this school, they were consistently rotating through staff members. They also don't know how to assist children who are on the spectrum and send them home if they are too disruptive. It doesn't matter what you pay a week, you wont see that money again once its charged. They charge you an absurd fee if you are a few minutes early, starting at $30. They will call you to have your child picked up if the teachers cannot handle child like behaviors. I was once asked to bring in a box of activities for my child to do when he doesnt want to participate with the group. He has ADHD and has a hard time sitting still and concentrating, his old teacher would outcast him leading to him losing friends. They say they will charge half price on holidays, when they always charge full price. Snowed in? Too bad you're still paying $300+ a week for daycare that you are not receiving. The teachers we had that didn't up and quit were fantastic, its the admin that are the problem. If you look at the schools job website reviews they are treated poorly by management/owners of this school.

Clean environment and wonderful teachers. My daughter loves coming to school and comes home everyday telling us all the new things she is learning and fun she has in class. The director is approachable and always has the best intentions for the school and all children who attend it.

Courthouse Academy has the best teachers and front staff I have ever experienced. They are all so welcoming, kind, and extremely personable.

I paid a weekly daycare bill of $302, my son attended this place for a month and a half. Unfortunately, I randomly received a call with a voicemail attached stating "I am sorry we can no longer watch your son. He stood on the tables and chairs here, you need to come get him now!" I was extremely surprised by the voicemail because I never received a negative complaint about my son before, we literally never had a problem with the school before. We then received a message through the school app that said they would charge us $12 every minute he's there plus $50 every hour he's there. I obviously dropped everything I was doing at work to get my son, but he certainly will not be returning to that school. My son is 2 years old and they treat him like he was a 10 year old who should know better. I would not recommend this school unless you are a person who can handle the possibility of receiving a call in the middle of a work day to hurry and pick your kid up for no good reason at all. To add icing on the cake, when I did come pick my son up, he was laying on the floor in the nurses office. I feel disgusting for ever sending him to that school.

Courthouse Academy is great bilingual school that not only teaches language, but also customs and appreciation of other cultures. My son loves to go to school everyday, and he comes home telling us everything that he is learning. His academic and social growth have thrived due to the lesson plans and all activities his teachers plan and execute in the classroom. Most of all, the teachers and staff are friendly, and they go the extra mile for the whole school community.

We love Courthouse Academy! Two of my grandchildren attend this amazing school and we couldnt be happier with the caring, gifted staff. Courthouse Academy has been wonderful for our children! Both of our kiddos attended Courthouse for the preschool years and then we moved on to public schools when they were old enough. When Covid hit and the schools went virtual, Courthouse Academy welcomed us back with open arms and treated our children as if they had never left. My son and daughter are getting a good education from caring people. We are very happy we discovered Courthouse Academy!

My oldest now 7 and in public school went to courthouse for 5 yrs. when he started VA Beach public he killed it and was invited to gifted school 1st and 2nd grade. I attribute this to his backbone learning at courthouse. With that said I now have my 2 yr old there and I expect the same results. Cheers to courthouse academy.

The teacher to student ratio is great for your kids actually getting a great teacher that also turns into a mentor for this young kids. The kids just adore their teachers.

We couldnt be more happy with both our kids attending this school. Hearing all of their school adventures, stories and friendships they have developed are amazing. Its amazing how each class has bi-lingual teacher who teaches them a view from a different culture. We could not be happier with Courthouse academy

I love Courthouse Academy. Both of my little girls attend school here. The staff is welcoming and know who all the kids are by name. As a parent I feel safe dropping off my children at school. The hours are 0700-1800 which is great for working parents. They use an app which will send you updates and pictures of your child throughout the day. We are very pleased with Courthouse Academy

My experience with Courthouse has been absolutely amazing. As parents we suffer from guilt and always worry about our children during the day. While at work I am very happy to have a place I completely trust with my child. Her confidence shows through her education, and how she is excited to go to school everyday. I am very happy to have found Courthouse and look forward to the future education they are able to offer my daughter. I truly believe that every teacher has a strong heart for all the children there. My daughter knows all of the teachers by name and they know her. They have all been apart of her learning experience and the consistence staff trainings keep them all consistent with all the children's academics.

Decent teachers and curriculum - the most frustrating part is seeing and hearing how staff is treated and how no one will do anything to help them from being bullied, screamed at, and belittled by the director. Clearly the overall well being of the staff is not a concern of the owner as she worries more about one person, the director - who several people have had issue with.

The leadership is horrible. The way the director speaks to her staff is disgusting and degrading and just short the definition of harassment. She doesnt understand why staff doesnt come to her with concerns or when they feel overwhelmed - but when youre yelled at and belittled daily, staff doesnt feel shes approachable. I would never send my child there after seeing and hearing how she speaks to her staff. I know others have expressed can concern; how many times will this class concern be expressed before the owner does something to protect the rest of her staff?

Staff has reported demeaning behavior to the owner and online reviews in the past, but nothing is ever done. Staff co to use to be belittled and bullied by the director of the school.

Our experience with Courthouse Academy has been excellent! All three of our children have graduated and progressed on to an honors and AP curriculum. Two are now in high school and one is attending a large university in their honors program, studying chemical engineering. Their success is largely attributed to the solid foundation they each received at Courthouse Academy. Most importantly, they were treated kindly and with love, and nurtured in this environment. We couldnt ask for a better start for our kids!

Our oldest son was a unique learner, and had a very early aptitude for math. Courthouse Academy allowed him to progress at his own pace, even though it was sometimes more accelerated than others in the class. They treated all of the children as individuals. I believe this is a big reason why our son is now in college studying engineering, this love of learning was fostered at a young age.

Courthouse Academy is affordable compared to other schools within their caliber. CHA has been a key element in the growth of my son; academically and socially. The school is very multicultural. Each teacher and staff member interacts with your child creating a it takes a village.. atmosphere. My son has been in their Spanish Immersions programs (from toddler 2s to PreK). CHA uses Appletree which is an app that allows teachers to post information and pictures of your child during activities(daily). Safety is a priority at Courthouse Academy as each person is screened prior to entry into the building.
I highly recommend Courthouse Academy!!

CHA is a school unlike any other. Our daughter Madelyn has been attending for 2 years and you can really tell the values that CHA instills Im their students shining through in Madelyn.
Public schools should take note, send some public sector teachers to shadow CHAs because CHA is GETTING IT RIGHT! Thank you for all you do for our daughter .

Miss Pam is my sons pre-k teacher. She provides 2-3 worksheets a week at the beginning of the week that are due on Friday. This allows us to complete the assignments at our own pace and accommodates our familys busy schedules!

We love Courthouse Academy! Jackson started at Courthouse when he was just 3 months old, and Emily started when she was 7 weeks old. Their teachers have always been amazing, and they love going to school. I love that Emily has had all of the same teachers Jackson had. Jackson is such an inquisitive, smart, happy little boy. Emily is such a bubbly, funny, and sweet little girl. I know my kids are getting the greatest early education, I cant thank Courthouse Academy enough for taking such amazing care of my kids!

Courthouse Academy has been the absolute best school for our three children. We enrolled our oldest daughter at Courthouse when she was 2 years old. She is now in 1st grade and reading at a 4th grade reading level. Our second child started at Courthouse Academy in the infant room and is currently in the Spanish Immersion Pre K class. To see her writing her letters and numbers and communicating with her teachers at school in Spanish is quite remarkable. Our youngest child, also started in the infant room and is getting ready to advance to the transitional twos class. For parents who work outside of the home, choosing the right place to care for your baby is a difficult decision. We knew that we made the right decision for each of our children. The infant and toddler room teachers have been so warm and loving towards our babies (now toddlers and big kids). From the infant room up, we have always felt as though we are leaving our children with others who truly care for them in a safe and nurturing environment. Each day when I drop our youngest off at school, he immediately runs towards his teacher to give her a big hug. This warms my heart and confirms to me that although he cannot verbalize it yet, he truly feels safe and loved when he is at school. Our oldest children have developed strong friendships that I believe will last for years to come. I could go on and on about all of the other wonderful things that this school has to offer including art class, music class and multiple enrichment opportunities. We have watched each of our three children flourish developmentally, socially and academically while attending Courthouse Academy. The foundation that this school is giving our children will surely set them up for a bright future ahead!

I can not say enough great things about Courthouse Academy and their staff. The approach to bilingual learning is a beautiful thing to see day to day. The growth of my daughter in the Spanish Language and Culture has been immense over the past 2 years at CHA. The qualities that they instill and teach the children is something that I have a great respect for. Raising independent, respectful, courageous, and determined scholars is a very hard task, but all staff at Courthouse does this effortlessly. Thank you to all the staff for your tireless dedication to my young scholar, Madelyn!!!

When I drop off my son in the morning the interaction I have with the teachers, other parents and children is heartwarming. It's a very happy place and I feel great heading into work knowing he is in the best hands. When we toured other daycare facilities and then Courthouse Academy there was no question! Not only are the hallways happy and bright but the children seem so enthused and cared for! All of the teachers (regardless of grade) and even the Admin know the students by name and interact with them on a daily basis. What sold me initially was the art and music classes. I love when they send artwork home. I recommend this daycare / school for anyone looking for a safe haven for their childno matter their age!

My son is almost 9 months old and has been at Courthouse Academy since he was 3 months old. I'm a working mother and was reluctant to go back to work when he was just 3 months old. I was nervous he wouldn't develop as fast or feel lonely or even miss his mommy. I am proud to say that my fears couldn't be further from the the truth with Courthouse Academy. He has learned and developed at an accelerated rate. A lot of his firsts were AT daycare and not at home. When he first sat up on his own, first crawled backward, first crawled forwards--heck the first time he bounced in a bouncer was after watching another child do it! One day I picked up my son and the teacher handed him to me and he wanted to go back to the teacher. Although my heart sank a little, I was ultimately happy he was loved on in the way I would if I was home with him. He has the sweetest teachers ever and the communication with them throughout the day while I'm at work is OPEN. I love it! I update my coworkers on pictures I receive, post them to my social media, and go back to work with immense peace of mind that Knoxy is dare I say better off at daycare than at home with me. He's interacting with other kids his age on a daily basis (watching their every move), participating in art and music classes, going on stroller walks, listening to christmas music, and living his best life! I couldn't ask for a better daycare situation and I'm really looking forward to entering him into the Spanish immersion program!

My 4yr old son Noah is in the Spanish Pre-K and was really shy when he started at Courthouse! This is his 3rd year there and he has came out of his shell tremendously! He can speak and sing in Spanish! He knows stuff that even surprises me and his dad! He is thriving and learning so much and Im so thankful for Courthouse for giving him a solid early education!

My child started at Courthouse Academy last summer. Since then, she never wants to leave school, always looking forward to going back the next day, and is overall a very happy; well-rounded child. They have music and art weekly. My daughter always has so much to tell me about her day! I feel that this school is very personable - saying good morning, good night, have a great day, etc. They also greet my daughter by name. I love how well rounded this school is!

Definitely a 10!! This is my daughters fourth year at Courthouse Academy and all of her teachers have always been amazing! They genuinely care for their students and work so hard to bring out their potential. My daughter is learning more than I ever thought at this point. I had no idea that she would be conjugating verbs in Spanish in the first grade!!
The leadership is amazing here!!! We love the principle!! Ms Julie is always right there in her office every morning as soon as you walk in with her door open and a smile on her face!!! She is so personable with everyone that comes through the door!!! We love her!! Everyone is always so friendly and happy to be there!! That really makes a big difference!
I honestly cant say enough good things about this school!!! I recommend it to everyone i know!!!! We cant imagine her at any other school!! She loves it here!!

Our experience has been great so far. Our two kids started at the beginning of last year and are now in PreK and Kindergarten and we can already see the development in each of them. We have been very satisfied with our experience at the school and can really see a their growth in their Spanish vocabulary. At this point we would give a positive recommendation for the school to parents looking to enroll their children in a school with an immersion program.

They expose the students to not only a fantastic academic education full of specials like art, music, & p.e., but they also help shape the children socially as well. They have a trait that they work on each month and learn how to be respectful, compassionate etc to not only others but to themselves as well.

I would recommend this school to anyone. We just moved to the area and my experiences with some of the schools in my past were horrible. They allowed bullying and did not promote a positive learning environment. Since coming to courthouse academy my son is excited about learning and he gives me Spanish lessons everyday. Hes more articulate and confident.

I always highly recommend this academy above others in the surrounding area. They provide a safe & nurturing environment for my kids to excel in. I saw a dramatic improvement in my kids articulation, cognitive & social skills. They provide the homework at the beginning of the week for pre-k and up. It comes with detailed instruction. Parents and children can work at a pace suitable for them. The homework includes all subjects: writing, reading, math, Spanish, science, and depending on grade sometimes history. I have a 4 and 6 year old so the history doesnt come often but the others are consistently there. And the children are encouraged to be creative.

The culture established by the founder is maintained and executed effective through a collective of administration and teachers. I cant say I remember what the mission of the school is but Ive met the founder a number of times. Ive found her to be modest, personable, caring, knowledgeable, and passionate about education and the development of a well rounded child and community.

Im not sure to what degree of learning differences. But my son has speech challenges. They partner with Va Beach public schools and his IEP to teach him and encourage him in ways that have been recommended. He is flourishing now in his 2nd year with an IEP and speech therapy.

We have been at Courthouse since my daughter was 3, she is now 7. All 3 at my kids are at the school ranging from 1, 3 and 7 year old. We absolutely love the school, the teachers and staff. I never imagined that I would find a place that I would fell comfortable leaving them at. They are nurturing and care for the kids with so much love. My kids have been exposed to so many different cultures, traditions and have learned to value individuality because of the explore they get at school. The teachers are excellent in keeping parents informed of any problems at school. Both of my children have attended this school. I have always been notified if something happened to my child or if my child was not making good choices. They take the time to pull the student to the side and talk to them about making better choices.

My son has been going to Courthouse Academy since he was six weeks old. He is now in Spanish Immersion Pre-K. (He comes home and teaches me Spanish) All of his teachers have been excellent. Great communication between the school and parents. (His current teacher uses Appletree) The Online Parent portal is very convenient. This is my daughter's first year at Courthouse. She is in the 3's Spanish Immersion classes. At first, we were nervous that she wouldn't adapt as quickly to a school setting; however, her teachers and the admins are so great with the kids. She loved it after the first day! She says everyone in her class are her best friends including her teachers.
They work on the basics with the 3's: numbers, letters, colors, cutting with scissors, hand eye coordination, writing/tracing, and music and art (I'm sure there's more that I didn't cover.) My daughter is in the Spanish Immersion class. Two months in she knew how to count to 10. Now she knows some of her colors (red, green, blue, yellow, black and white.)
I love that they offer a variety of after school activities such as Mini Med School, Soccer Shots, and Rock-It Science...just to name a few. When you sign up for any of these extracurricular activities, they send you a weekly update on what they did that day.
I'm not sure if all teachers use the Appletree app or something like it, but my daughter's teacher sends us daily updates on what they did in class that day AND pictures of all the kids. She also keeps us informed of future events, like if there is a bake sale, book fair, class party or school closings.
I would highly recommend Courthouse Academy to any parent looking to enroll their kid.

We have actually never had the bullying issues that we had in our one year of public school. Public school was a nightmare for our child. He would come home defeated and broken hearted. It was like a light went out in him. At courthouse he comes home so happy!! He feels heard by teachers when a rare squabble happens. In our three years of being here we have only had one major incident and it was dealt with quickly and professionally.

Our child attended courthouse for kindergarten and first grade. For second grade we thought we would try public school. It was hands down the worst mistake we have ever made. My child was bullied, bored (he was VERY far ahead from his years at courthouse) and often commented that his teacher never knew him that he was just a seat filler. He was in second grade and this is his words. There was no classroom discipline, very rare parent teacher communication and we never knew what was really happening in the classroom. He was doing the same type of math homework for MONTHS! It was like they never moved forward. Now that he is back at courthouse for third grade he is happy again, he is rising the higher bar his teachers hold him to. He is excited to tell us about the fun activities they are doing. I cant say enough how much we truly love this school! It is what I would wish for all children to be able to experience! They US school system could learn a thing or two! The homework assigned is a small review of what is taught in the classroom. I think it gives parents a first hand glimpse at what their children are succeeding in or having problems with. Teachers are very agreeable to adjusting tasks on a student by student case as well. Some children dont need review where others may. With the classrooms being so small it is easy to adjust for the student not the other way around.

My son has been attending Courthouse Academy since he was in the infant room, through four classrooms and each room has gone above and beyond expectations. He is currently in the two year old spanish immersion class, which is impressive in itself. The experience he is getting is priceless. The staff, teachers and assistants make you feel like you are dropping your child off with family, because they are. This is my first year with Courthouse Academy and I am SO glad I found it! The school is a wonderful learning environment filled with happy faces! After teaching in Portsmouth Public Schools for the last two years I was run down and needed to find somewhere where I could be happy and rediscover my joy and love for teaching. I want to take a moment to express our gratitude on how well the transitional has been putting our daughter into Courthouse. Having to put your child in daycare has several anxieties alone but having a great team at Courthouse made it much easier for us. I especially want to recognize all the teachers in the infant room- Last night I received a call from one of my friends frustrated at her daycare and their inconsistency with her babies teachers. It made me realize that we are very happy with ours! It gives our family a peace of mind when we see Emily smile and recognize them in the morning. We like that they provide us a lot of feedback with Emily and what she may need, even on days that may be more rough. I believe in the importance of a great team and I wanted to recognize that you have a great one in the infant room. Even the ladies on the other side of the infant room. They've all been very warm and approachable with us and you can tell they work HARD keeping the babies happy throughout the day. I know it's a hard job so I wanted to let them know we appreciate all of them!!!!

My son was at a half day program for preschool before Courthouse Academy and I felt he was not getting what he needed. We moved him to Courthouse Academy and it was the best choice we ever made. He started in their Pre K and now is in private Kindergarten! He loves going to school daily and it makes me feel so secure knowing all the staff loves him dearly! Courthouse has been a great fit for me and my family. My kids are excited to go to school each day and are happy when I pick them up. Their teachers are friendly, communicate with parents often, and my kids love them. We are greeted every day by a smiling face at the door, which makes us all feel welcome! First I would like to thank all of the staff here at Courthouse, they have truly been a pleasure to be around. I first enrolled my youngest daughter Adalia in the 2 year old class with Ms. Alison after my niece attended this establishment as well. This was the first time Adalia had been in a school/daycare environment. She is a very timid girl. I could not have asked for a better placement for her due to the fact she and Alison clicked and absolutely loved each other. As any mother would feel at ease if it is their first time. She has now moved up and will be attending the 4 year old class this fall. They also have an outstanding summer program that allows kids to stay year round if needed for working families.
My youngest daughter Eliza whom is 3 months will start next week! I am so proud to say I am sorry free when it comes to my children's education and care. Thank you courthouse!

My daughter is currently in 1st grade but has been a student of Courthouse Academy's since she has 2. She as always looked forward to coming to school and I believe it's because of the warm, caring and fun environment the teachers and staff provide at Courthouse. She's always loved her teachers, especially Ms Meaghan, Maestra Jamily, Ms Liz and Maestra Fanny. These teachers are truly focused on the advancement of the kid's education and they teach in fun and creative ways that make it effective for the kids to retain what they've learned. She always came home with exciting news to share about what she's learned that her little brother could not wait to go to school. This year, our son is in Pre-K and because of all the wonderful stories our daughter shared with him, he adjusted quite well and was just ready to learn like his sister. Our son loves his teachers Ms Joy and Maestra Michelle. They are attentive to all the students and truly care about their academic developments. They are very kind and patient, which you need when teaching 4 year olds, but mostly, they are compassionate people who love what they do because they're great at it. With the current teacher there is no homework. What she does is if there is unfinished classwork or if she needs additional help on a subject she will send things for our child to work on at home. This method has really decreased the stress of homework time in our household.

Our child has attended Courthouse Academy since she was 2 years old. She is now 7 and we couldn't imagine sending her to another school. The quality of education is like no other. The teachers really pay attention to the child's strengths and weaknesses and are able to tailor the curriculum to meet the child's needs. We really appreciate the small classroom sizes, so there is no one size fits all when it comes to academics. Another benefit of having our child remain at courthouse academy is the Spanish immersion. She has now started using her Spanish in public to communicate with others she hears using the language! Each year we find ourselves attached to her current teacher and wishing we could keep her for the next grade level only to find the next teacher just as awesome!

Personally, most studies now indicate homework is inappropriate for elementary aged students. Students should simply read for 20 minutes when they get home. Ms. Lisa mostly assigns reading homework and I appreciate it being her priority in the evening with her guided reading bags.

My son has attended this school for 2 years and loves it! His current teacher, Ms. Lisa, is AMAZING! She is very talented and invested in him doing well. My biggest concern and reason for not giving the school 5 stars is lack of technology for student use. I find it surprising that the school does not have any technology for student use considering many of the major divisions in the area pushing a one to one initiative for students k-12 in the next three years. I understand it is expensive, but even an overhead projector could enhance instruction and increase student engagement significantly! More investment in 21st Century Technology skills is my only concern, but other than that, great school!

Courthouse Academy is amazing! From the friendly welcome at the door to the friendly welcome in the class. The kindergarten spanish program is truly wonderful. The children learn so much! From everyday vocabulary and even how to have a polite conversation with others. Children come home speaking new spanish phrases daily! Parents are definitely motivated to learn as they sit down each night to work on their spanish homework. The academics taught in kindergarten are so much MORE advanced than any other school. The teachers go above and beyond to make sure the students truly get all the knowledge they need for the coming years.

Courthouse Academy is a wonderful school! My child is enrolled in the toddler program and he loves it here.Every time we enter the school we both are greeted by EVERYONE with smiles. My child is learning how to count to 10,his letters,colors,and shapes. He always brings home tons of artwork that I enjoy displaying on my fridge. I have two children who have attended this school for 3 years now. We love walking in to the warm and welcoming front office staff each morning! They always notice something fun about my kids and it makes them smile.
The children's teachers have been amazing! I have watched thier confidence grow as well as thier knowledge over the years. The teachers of all ages make learning fun! My kids are excited to go to school and love to tell people that "Courthouse Academy is my school!"
The extra specials are great too! They music programs are great and the p.e teacher makes fun games for them to play. I also have framed art projects! We love our special school and all the people that make it a special part of our lives.

Courthouse Academy administration and staff are always willing to help me whenever I have a question. They do more than required of them. The administration and staff have a lot going on throughout the day but are always smiling and stop what they are doing to greet me when I come in. The academics in the school are above and beyond what other schools are doing. My daughter is learning on a grade level higher and the amount of Spanish she is speaking at home is insane! I like that the front staff knows all the children in the school as well as who picks them up and drops them off. Safety is one of my main concerns and I feel that my child is safe when I drop her off. I know that she spends more time with the Courthouse Academy staff than she does me and I am grateful to know that they care for her like she is one of their own. I would and have told my friends about this school.

My son attended for Pre-K and I have to complement the school for preparing him well for regular Kindergarten.
However, I don't think this school is a true Spanish immersion program, which is why I paid more for this school and drove way out of my way to bring my son there every day. It was only after my son was enrolled, that I realized neither his lead teacher, the principal, nor the receptionist actually spoke Spanish! (His lead teacher told me she knew some basics.) Only the assistant teacher was fluent in Spanish.
I also recall occasionally hearing some of the staff speaking in Spanish to eachother in the hallway, but I think in an immersion program, the children should hear native speakers conversing all the time, not just occasionally. Non-native speakers should at least being using greetings and basic phrases in conversation.
Ultimately, I don't think my child learned much Spanish.
I did feel the school was more of a for-profit operation, but I think I would have been okay with that approach had it been a true immersion school.
I also disliked that for every drop off and pickup, parents had to park, walk through the front of the school and go all the way to the classroom. This was tiresome, especially with other kids in tow.
In contrast to other reviews, the receptionist was always warm and welcoming to me and I don't remember her being on the cell phone too much. She was actually my favorite out of the front office staff.

This is my daughters 2nd year at courthouse, and we love it so much!!! She adores her teacher and really looks forward to going to school everyday! I am so amazed at how much she is learning at 5!! I especially love how loving and friendly everyone is! On the second day of school when she started last year she was already being greeted at the door by name! Another thing I love are all of the fun things they randomly bring to the school. A couple days ago she came home telling me that they brought in all different animals and she got to touch a baby alligator! I love Courthouse Academy! The teachers are wonderful with the children. They really connect at the kids level. My daughter has been a student there as a 2 year old, a 3 year old and a 4 year old and has participated in the Spanish immersion program each year. She loves going to school, loves her teachers and friends and has learned so much through her years there. I am impressed with the amount of Spanish she has learned over the 3 years and her accent when she speaks is spot on. Every week in addition to the regular curriculum, the children also participate in gym class, art class, music and computers.
The management team is also easy to work with. Everyone there really seems to enjoy what they do and it shows.

I absolutely love this school. Our 3 year old son is in his 2nd year at Courthouse Academy and has learned so much there. The Spanish immersion classes that are offered are fantastic. My 3 year old counts up to 40 in Spanish, knows his colors and teaches me new words every week. The teachers and staff are so kind and actually care about the families attending (our son was admitted to the hospital and the welcome he received from his class when he returned was so heartwarming). I cannot say enough about this school. Thank you for making our son's first school experience a positive one- it will set him up for the rest of his life!

What really matters to me are my kids love for their teachers. My daughter is in the 4 year old class and has been attending since she was a toddler. She has had great friends for several years and talks about her teachers and friends all the time. My son is in the 2s and is having the same experience. I look forward to him having the same experiences as my daughter.

I have two children at Courthouse Academy, and choosing this school was/is the best educational program available. Courthouse Academy gives my children opportunities to create art projects, make new friends and learn appropriate social skills, and provide them with the foundation to learn. My son is in the all-day Kindergarten class, and hes learning to read, write sentences, and speak Spanish. My daughter is in the 3-year old program, and shes learning to write, speak Spanish, and gets opportunities to play and socialize. I cant say enough about Courthouse Academy, but I highly recommend the school and commend the staff for all they do every day.

We just started our second year with Courthouse Academy for our 3 year old twins and we absolutely love it there. The staff is friendly, and they always go the extra mile to answer your questions and they take the best care of our twins. We have loved all of our teachers and the kids do too. The staff are friendly and provide excellent care for the children. Best of all, the administration is open to hearing parents' feedback and suggestions and respond very quickly if ever there is a complaint or problematic situation. This is our 5th school year at Courthouse. Our daughter has really enjoyed her all of her classes and her teachers. The class sizes are small and she is able to get more one on one with the teacher. I know this is the reason that our daughter has excelled in reading, spelling and every aspect of school. We appreciate the office staff and how helpful and accommodating they are. We like that they know all the kids and are always available if you have a question.

We currently have two children enrolled at Courthouse and we have been extremely happy with not only the care they have received but the love the teachers have for them. Both of our children love going every day and enjoy learning! I am always impressed by what our children are learning! Superb preschool in my opinion!

My child has attended Courthouse Academy since he was one and a half years old. He LOVES it so much he looks forward to going to school every morning, and we love it too.
The Spanish emersion is really working, and there is nothing cuter than listening to your three year old sing songs and say please and thank you in Spanish.
Additionally, the school has a lot of enrichment programs for the children, and while these may seem costly because they are above and beyond tuition, they are excellent and my child looks forward to them each week.
Finally, on the rare occasion I may have had a concern, the director and the teachers were always quick to address my concerns or correct the issues.
This is an excellent program with lots of hands on learning and play experiences.

My child attended Courthouse from the time she was 2. When she reached elementary school, she was assessed well above her peers that came from various other preschools. I am beyond pleased with the progress she made at Courthouse, as well as with the professionalism of the teachers there. The teachers and staff were always helpful, courteous & caring. I would recommend Courthouse Academy to everyone!

My 4yo daughter has attended Courthouse Academy for 2 years. I am very pleased with the staff and the facilities. I did not originally look for a language immersion program, however having seen the results with my daughter I'm sold. What I was looking for, and what I found, was a quality program that provided more than the babysitting that the typical dump & run daycares offer. There were other schools that I looked at, some of the more well known locations in the areas, that were more expensive, but didn't give me the same sense of caring that Courthouse does. I'd like to mention some specific staff and teachers by name for recognition, but unfortunately it's not allowed on this site. The staff that I deal with all know how grateful my husband and I are for the wonderful experiences that are providing our daughter!

I was employed at Courthouse Academy for quite some time and like the other reviews stated it is all about the money for them. Teachers are mistreated by the front staff and they don't communicate well either. Everything is very unorganized and the front office doesn't seem to know what they are doing. Also, most employees do not have their degrees. It has taken a turn for the worse and I don't see it getting any better. They will accept any student good or bad behavior as long as you can pay your tuition. When walking into the school you can see the lack of profession since most of the time they are on their cell phone or gossiping. The staff up front are very rude and don't like to be bothered by anyone. The teachers work very hard and are there for your children but management creates an environment that teachers don't want to return to.

Having been previously employed there I have to 110% agree with the previous review about the "behind the scene" outlook on this school. Money is what they seek... your child is just another dollar bill to them.

I originally loved Courthouse Academy and know they were working towards teacher/child interactions; however, the new front office staff is rude, on their cellphones, gossiping and unhelpful to the teachers and parents. Several of the teachers use very negative tones and language, are not trained in the proper development of the children within their care and they send home progress reports that are not age appropriate. Finally, the biggest issue I have noticed is that on several occasions the classrooms are not within ration. This school is again all about the big classroom sizes to funnel in money instead of the enrichment of the children as they claim. My child will not be going back after the school year.

Being involved for this school for 2 years I have realized the "behind the scenes" attitude towards the facility. Front offices are very unwelcoming. Most "teachers" do not have their degrees. This school is all about the money and not the children unfortunately.

We made the right choice by keeping our child at Courthouse Academy thru Kindergarten. She is now in public school attending first grade where she is above grade level on everything academically. The administrators as well as her teacher have asked where she attended Kindergarten and I am proud to say Courthouse Academy.

I am so glad I got my child out of there!!! While I thought Courthouse Academy was going to be great for my child, I find out they let my son cry all day and absolutely NO parent / teacher communication on their part. We would have never known he was crying all day until I asked. The front staff and director aren't organized at all. Everytime that I took my child in, the front desk was ALWAYS on the cellphone. She didnt even make sure that kids were signed in - very unprofessional. I would NEVER recommend Courthouse Academy to any parent.

I don't normally write reviews, but this place has bona above and beyond. After countless tours of different schools, my family and I finally decided on Courthouse. When touring, the front desk was extremely helpful and answered any questions I had, and when I came back with my husband, we spoke to the director who was extremely knowledgeable. My child has been there 3 weeks and loves it - he actually cries when he has to leave! He loves getting Spanish, Music and Computers weekly, as well as fun "extras" like Soccer Shots! It is like a family there, I am always greeted and asked if I need any help. The front office is extremely attentive, I have seen them monitor who enters the building, and ID people they don't recognize to make sure they are authorized to pick up children - I feel better knowing they have such security in place. No place will suit everyone, but I am happy I gave this place a chance. The school is huge - there are going to be unhappy families regardless of if it's a public or private school. Give the school a chance, we were apprehensive, but I am so glad we gave it a chance! We love it so far and cannot wait for what the school year holds!

I have 2 children that attend courthouse academy, one in the nursery and one in 2nd grade. I have nothing but great things to say about the programs, teachers and staff. My oldest struggled with behavior but excelled intellectually and Ms. Julie ( the director) went above and beyond to help him. The Spanish immersion program is amazing as well, I've never seen anything like it. I'll be sad to see my oldest leave next year but I'm excited for my little guy and the awesome experience he'll have. Keep up the great work courthouse!

I agree with most of the comments with regards to the front end staff, price increases, and board of directors. While my child did well (we did a lot of teaching and extra work at home), I'm happy that we made the right decision to pull our child out and send to public school.

My 2 children have attended Courthouse Academy starting in 2010 to the present. I would not recommend this school! In the recent years, it has changed for the worse! Our early experiences were it was a school that felt warm and inviting and very child centered. It now has lost that feeling and seems more about money than the kids at all! Their curriculum is lacking (I know of several families who's children entered public schools In our area behind academically and were told CHA has the reputation by TEACHERS!) They also did do away with the enrichments like computer, music and Spanish for the younger children although they sell that as a perk when paying their high tuition. Lastly, the administration and office staff is rude and incompetent! I would not recommend this school and my children will NOT go back! I'm sorry I didn't withdraw them sooner!

Would not recommend this school at all! My child went there for Pre-K and K. We loved it for Pre-K but during her kindergarten year, they increased prices in the MIDDLE of the year, they removed all the enrichment classes (such as art, dance, gymnastics), her kindergarten teacher i was not happy with most of the time, they send soo much homework out but do not do any of it during afterschool care. The new "board of directors" do not have the children's best interest in mind. After talking to most of the parents in my daugther's class, and in other classes, we all feel the same and will be sending our children to another school. Courthouse is NOT worth the money they charge for tuition.

Courthouse Academy is going downhill fast, especially with the new director. The front office staff is very rude and unprofessional. The new "board of directors" is a complete joke! This school has turned into nothing more than a money making business. The class sizes are ridiculous too, but they do have some amazing teachers! I loved my childs teacher for the two years we were there.. They need all new front office staff or I see this school losing a lot of enrollment in the very near future.

Horrible! 16 children in the 2 year old room, teachers can't keep track of student lunches and snacks and can't determine where the mixup happened and which kid got the others food, teacher taking pic of children on PERSONAL cell phones! No care or action taken on the part of "administration". They increased rates and established a "board of directors" to make it look like someone cares but it's still the same owners and same junk service. I wouldn't send my dog here.

My child has been attending Courthouse Academy for two years now. She has been enrolled in the Spanish Immersion classes and I am in awe! She is not only excelling in her regular subjects, but she has learned so much Spanish too! When I try to say words in Spanish she tells me,"Mommy, that's not how you say it". I am so pleased that Courthouse is now offering a Spanish Immersion first grade; I know where my daughter will be next year! Couldn't be happier!

My daughter and I had the opportunity to have our one year old spend the day at the school. It was the very first time we had ever left him. While we were both in tears when we left our hearts were lifted when we returned to see him having the time of his life. The teachers were incredible and so loving. We had a detailed account of his day and it sounded like he had a great time. Miss Julie and Miss Vicky couldn't have been nicer to us. We were treated so kindly by everyone. I was amazed at the cleanliness of the school and especially the rooms in which my grandson was staying in. Many thanks for the love and caring you showed to us and to our baby.

Don't be fooled by all of the recent positive reviews (also note they are right around the same dates). This WAS a great school until this past 2011/2012 school year. I had two children there and were quite unhappy with the class sizes (22 kids in one class and almost 20 kids in another). The construction that went on during school was a huge safety issue for the kids while they were there. Constant emails and corrections of emails by administration were quite frequent and quite frustrating after a while. Not what I would expect from a "professional" organization. Money is the primary concern of the administration and not the children. Sad because it used to be a great school. I can quickly name 15+ families not returning next year for a lot of the same reasons. Please ask people who have gone there or go there their opinion- don't solely base your choice on the reviews.....anyone can write these glowing reviews.

Growing at a great rate!!! My little one has grown into such a smart happy little person since starting school at Courthouse Preschool. I was looking at some of these negative reviews and I have to say it is a shame that some people get a 'mission' of negativity in their minds and ignore all of the positive experience they have had. We, as a family have had great communication, and understanding and my child is moving forward in her learning and social skills by HUGE strides. We have had an issue here and there,as with any relationship, but it has always been addressed quickly, and in a kind, compassionate manner by the owner, director and the teachers, and to everyone's satisfaction. I recommend this environment for anyone looking for a well balanced, happy place for their child, and would enroll my kid again if I had to do it all over again. That is the best accolade I can give:-)

We love this preschool! We have searched all over the Hampton Roads area for a reasonably priced yet well rounded program for our children. I can send my children to any daycare but I really feel like our kids are being prepared for Kindergarten but also having fun! Thanks Ladies for doing an Excellent job!

Courthouse Academy is our second family. When my son turned two in 2007, I researched many schools. When i walked into Courthouse Academy I had no doubt this was the school for us. I love this school, is truely a preschool, from the way it is set up to the teachers. I didnt want a daycare for my son, I wanted a school and that is what i got. We stayed with courthouse all the way through kindergarden which was the best years of our lives. My son now tells me he misses courthouse. This year I enrolled my daughter who is two and she has learned so much its amazing. I feel the staff is always there for me and will work with me on any of my needs or concerns.There are so many good things i can say about this school. The academics and extra activities this school offers, no child won't succeed here. Courthouse Academy has so many originalities to them, they even share their mascot with us. The kids love him and he is so great with them. He sits and greets the families every day. Courthouse Academy is an amazing school when we are there I feel at home and I know and see how much my kids are learning. I know my kids are safe and very loved. I recommend this school to everyone!!!

LOVE THIS SCHOOL!!!! My Daughter loves everything about place. From the director to the teachers to the aides. Everyone is friendly and encouraging and is always happy to see her. I have only had good communication with everyone and feel that each time my little girl leaves the building she is a happier person. My youngest daughter is completing kindergarten at Courthouse. She started at age 2. My older daughter is now in grade school having completed kindergarten two years ago. The care and education provided by the teachers at Courthouse has been superlative. If the school offered higher grades, I would certainly enroll them instead of public school. To my mind, the school offerers just the right mix of age appropriate education, fun and structure for the children. In my experience, ALL of the teachers and staff have the best interests of the children at heart. The enrichment classes such as Spanish emersion, dance, etc. were outstanding and are a big plus over other local private preschools. The facility is great. It's bright and cheery, and more important, clean! To be honest, I'm hard pressed to find anything wrong with school. I guess the parking is an issue for some, but they are in the process of expanding that now. I cannot recommend this school too highly.

BEST PRESCHOOL IN VIRGINIA BEACH!!!!!!!!!!!! The teachers and directors are so nice. We are excited about the new infant and toddler center and Spanish Immersion classes coming in Sept. 2012. They even have a school mascot "scout", this is great for children that don't have pets at home. All the children seem to love "Scout". The school offers so many different programs, part time, full day, and extended day, 2 day,3 day and 5 day. You get so many extras included in the tuition. This is a great school for children to learn and feel safe. I have told all my friends about this great school.

My child has gone here for two years. She has grown and blossomed so much but unfortunately the people running the school have turned it into an entirely different school from last year. The first year was wonderful but this past year, the school has done a major turnaround and I've registered my daughter elsewhere next year. While the teachers are some of the best, the administration is awful. The director and her assistant are concerned only with the money and fees they receive and lack any consideration for the children and families. If your child is attending full-day next year, you'll be required to buy a $35 sleeping bag and pay a credit card fee for any payment you make. There is currently construction going on and last week when I entered the school early, the front door was left wide open with not one person standing watch. In fact, she was several rooms down the hall. While I'm sad to go because I've had such a great experience with her teachers, I'm happy to leave the greed behind.
