My student doesn’t feel excited about attending this school.
The bus schedule keeps changing in the middle of school and I have to drop them off everyday now. Not sure why the schedule is so inconvenient to students. For a public school this is bad planning.
Substitute teachers have no understanding of how to take over and make the most of the day. They are there for a paycheck and clock out end of he day.

This is a terrific school especially in consideration of the diversity of the student body. The school administration and teachers work hard to ensure that all students get an opportunity for a top notch education. My three children graduated from Dominion and participated in a range of AP classes, sports and other extra curriculars. They took different paths, but each was successful and had a sense of belonging at this school. The education they received prepared them well for entry and successful performance at UVA and other Universities. I highly recommend this school.

All three of my children either have or are attending Dominion. Dr. Brewer, faculty and staff truly care to make a difference and keep Dominion H.S. among the best in Virginia in the Public School System.

My son couldn't learn any of the curriculum due to the the horrible teachers, my husband and I are outrageous and don't recommend your kids to go here, sure it might have better college prep but not after Brewer was put on leave. This school is worse than Park View and Potomac and those are both schools that get bashed on for being "worse". The administration at Dominion try to cover things up that can damage their reputation as a school.

My biggest issue with the school is that the teachers refer eachother to tutor each other's students for a fee. The fee is not cheap and the principal condones it. The problem with this policy is that it disincentives the teachers from actually doing their job. My son was having trouble in math and said his teacher was not helpful when he asked questions. I spoke with her and she referred me to her colleague tutor my son for a fee. Apparently, his teacher tutors her colleague's students. I made a decision to use C2 education which is unaffiliated with the school so as not not give a dime to his teacher's colleague and not contribute to incentivizing these teachers to essentially not do their paid job, TEACH!

Both of my now young adult children attended Dominion all four years and my son now has a Doctorate degree and daughter has acheived just what she has set out for in the international affairs area. The principal and teachers at this school were excellent and always were able to encourage the student to acheive their goals. In fact, both of my young people stated they worked harder at Dominion then in their four years of undergraduate work at a highly respected VA University. The principal goes way above and beyond to take an interest in the students and their individual success. This school should be rated a 10. I question how a school of this caliber could ever get this rating and I think the model must be wrong.

Ive had nothing but positive experiences from the teachers, staff and students at Potomac Falls Highschool. A high level of respect and achievement is the standard there.

Excellent school, principal, faculty and staff. The principal goes above and beyond academics. He tells parents he expects their support in teaching the students to advocate themselves (hence, no helicopter parents allowed), as part of what is needed upon graduation is knowledge of academics AND how the real world operates. My daughter would have gone to Potomac Falls and thank goodness she did not because the principal has not control over the students. Additionally, there is an amazing array of activities and clubs for Dominion students to participate in. Cannot say enough spectacular things about Dr. Brewer and the school!!!!!!!

This school is a horrible one and I say this as a student. The teachers are sub-par, apathetic and ill-disciplined as most tend to play on their facebook and assign busy-work. The administration is without a doubt, one of the most frustrating and ill-conceived heavy weight bureaucracy ever assembled in a school system. They have a fetishism for punishing kids and the focus of the school is on minority and at-risk kids. Teachers tend to pick favorites and the education is sub-par with a focus on rote memorization and testing. Only a handful of teachers care about their jobs. The kids are rich, well-off and spoiled and the social life is dry as it is very cliquey. There is absolutely no school spirit as most if not everyone who goes to this school doesn't care about it and dislikes it. Athletics, clubs and organizations are under-represented as the administration only condones strict discipline. Overall it was a horrible high school and I wouldn't recommend the experience at Dominion High school to anyone. Go to Potomac Falls

Dominion High School is truly a wonderful school. I would say that the administration did the best that they possibly could do given that this school takes from such a "special demographic" (the neighborhoods are not quite as homogenous as the rest of Loudoun). Dr. Brewer, and the Vice Principals put their heart into this school and it was very obvious to me and everyone else. The one problem I personally had was that the teachers would consistantly give unreasonable amounts of homework. I would stay up past midnight almost every school night trying to get all of it done. Although, now looking back, I can say that the massive workload definitely prepared me for college. Its very interesting to me that Dominion takes students from a middle school that is set up for students to do poorly, and yet DHS is STILL able to fill in the gaps and have their students perform well academically. IMO, I think Dr. Brewer should take over as the principal at SRMS the next opportunity he gets and run both schools if at all possible. DHS is a small school with a big heart. I just hope it stays that way.

I wish I could give Dr. Brewer 10 stars. He is an outstanding leader, mentor, and principle. I had concerns about my daughter going to school there and actually thought about moving back to FFAX. We are so glad that we did not move. I actually wrote Dr. Brewer a long email and he immediately responded back. He addressed all of my concerns and lived up to all of his promises. How many principles know every kid's name in their school and can actually have a conversation with them. My daughter graduated this year with honors and is going to VA Tech in the fall. We could not be happier with the school and most importantly the principle!!!

I think what a previous review meant to say is that the principle micro-manages quite a bit. Teachers have said that they feel constrained at times and have little freedom to use creativity in their classes. School spirit was extremely low when my two kids went to school there and the quality of the sports programs for the most part are lacking in support from the administration and funding to help build that. The principal would not allow a sports booster club until last year as the county decreased their funding and there was no choice.There have been, at the least, over a dozen students that have switched to other public schools in the district to benefit from superior sports programs and academically Dominion ranks about the same as the those other schools in the district. My son and many of the former students I have talked with over the years felt that college was a breath of fresh air when it came to expression both by students as well as teachers. They said they felt like they were treated as if they were still preteens at Dominion. That is not to say that Dominion didn't have it's share of good teachers- but they lack the freedom from the ones I've spoken to.

I have to laugh at some of the reviews. The principal is "too over involved"? How is that even possible? Don't you want you principal to be involved in your child's education? My favorite: They installed "escalators" at Dominion? There are no ESCALATORS in Dominion, only an ELEVATOR for those that are in wheelchairs or can't manage the stairs due to disabilities. And all two story high schools have them. It is the law. Get over yourself. This high school is STERLING! From an informed, involved administration, to teachers that truly care and want to teach. My children and their friends, which are incredibly diverse - have enjoyed and benefited from their experience at Dominion. I have a freshman now and I am busy sending gift boxes to our daughter and several of her friends that went to college. [They are sophomores now.] If the review you read is poor it is probably because someone, or someone's kid broke the rules and they just aren't happy about it. You can't beat how organized, up to date and wonderful this school is. If you take the experience they are willing to provide you, you can only thrive and succeed. I have seen it with my children and their friends.
