I can only speak for the Head Start/STEP program. However, what I will say is that our child started on a Thursday, and by Monday his teacher, the case manager, and Vice Principal had already decided to push our child out of the school without any prior communication with us. We feel this school is not well-equipped to handle young special education students.

We moved from India a year ago with 3 kids. The oldest joined grade 4 and my daughter joined Kindergarten. We could not have asked for more or been any happier with our decision to move to this area and have Legacy Elementary as our school!
The school is amazing, really great principal, teachers and staff.
The teachers do such a great job with how they teach the kids. My son scored 600 on his SOL for VA studies. Impressive for a child who has been in America less than 10 months. Goes to show how dedicated the teacher was with teaching and revisions.
By the last day of school, the kids did not want to have a summer break and just wished school would continue. That speaks volumes about how enjoyable school was to them.
Would highly recommend Legacy Elementary to all parents looking to move this side of town.
Even before we moved to America their review on Great Schools made them my number one choice of schools and I am so glad they are here!

Generally strong but there is room for improvement in teacher quality. Very supportive admin staff for student and parental concerns.

Legacy is a wonderful school. They have a great team of educators and an excellent special education program. We’ve felt very supported throughout our 4 years there and our children love going to school every day.

I've had 3 kids at Legacy over the last 7-years and we've been very happy there. The staff is pleasant and helpful, and the teachers care about their students' success. In our neighborhood, where the majority of residents hold bachelors and graduate degrees, students are expected to behave, have manners, and do their absolute best in their schoolwork. Parent involvement is high. These are great kids and I'd strongly recommend Legacy ES to anyone.

I volunteer a couple of times a week and I see first hand how much Mr. Dickershied is involved in his school and staff. The kids feel comfortable around him and hold him in high regard. It's wonderful to see such a good leader and amazing staff to support him.

While I haven't seen any bullying first hand, I have discussed these types of issues with some of the teachers and staff and feel everyone is on the same page regarding behavioral tolerance.

Excellent! We feel so lucky to be a part of this school family.

Posted: January 22, 2018

The homework is given at the beginning of the week which makes it so much more manageable for students and parents.

We just relocated here from the west coast and I was worried about the transition for my daughter. She has adjusted well to the teachers and classmates and has great affection for her homeroom and math teacher.

While we're still in our first year at LES, I've been so impressed with the kindness, politeness and care I see demonstrated from the students. Again I'm there a couple of days a week and see this first hand.

Love that my boys left LES, being unaware that some of their school mates had different ethnicities or abilities. They loved being “buddies” for students that needed extra support in PE, the hall or class. One of my favorite things about LES.

Posted: January 19, 2018

Love that Mr. Dickershied is out front EVERY morning giving high fives and hellos! He is out and about in the school all day long and not behind a desk. It is obvious that the rest of the school is happy to work with him, which then trickles down to the students.

Having one with an IEP and one with a health related 504, we know that they went out of their way to see that they were successful and well supported.

Posted: January 19, 2018

Love the zero tolerance policy that they have and actually live by!! Guidance counselors and teachers are quick to step in when needed. They dont just talk, they have action.

Posted: January 19, 2018

Love that there is an appropriate amount of homework for each child’s grade or ability. They were flexible with when things “came up” or were willing to let students have their homework a week at a time, so that they could work ahead for nights when we had practice or special events.

Posted: January 19, 2018

Every teacher my three kiddos have had at LES, was exceptional. Even now that one is in college and another in HS, they have fond memories and are willing to stop by and say hello! Those exceptional teachers helped shape who my boys are.

Legacy is located in a well to do area however don't let the area fool you. Educationally the school is ok. However, the school needs more minorities as it is unequally balanced. There are children that are bullies and parents are as well, especially if their child isn't performing on the same level as higher performing students. Rumors, back biting, exclusion from events exists heavily. Communication between teacher and parents are poor and needs improvement. We are supportive that the teachers handle issues such as bullying that's why the rate of the school 3 stars.

Both of our children went to this school and they both had a great experience. The school is very well managed.

We have two boys in this school and could not be happier with the dedication and support the staff show at every turn. The sense of community is carried through in the school and the principal is approachable and very open to suggestions/recommendations. When the PTO was in danger of not having a president this year he reached out personally to the parents to fill the position. Yes, the school is over-crowded and our oldest has struggled, but his teacher has communicated every step of the way and the support we have received has been outstanding. The staff has come up with creative ways to help both of our children learn and I am particularly impressed with the different levels of teaching material offered based on individual student ability. Brambleton is very fortunate to have such a wonderful school.

I love this school. There is a strong emphasis for parental involvement by volunteering. The principal is ever present throughout the school, not sitting behind the desk all day. He knows the kids and the kids know him. He is highly regarded throughout the county and it shows in his staff. The only downside is that it is currently the largest elementary school in the county with grade overflow every year. But, that is due to the tremendous amount of community growth in the Brambleton area. The school still manages to run efficiently and effectively. I can only say positive things about Legacy ES.
