For my older two children, the school is fine, but that is because they are the kids who listen, fall in line with behavior, and do not need extra help with learning. My youngest does need just a little help that neither the teacher, the school administration, or the county is willing to provide.

If achieving good scores on state testing is effective, then yes. Nothing beyond that.

The expectation of having kids behaving perfectly is perpetuated by notes coming home describing, in my opinion, kids acting their age. Not all teachers are this way, but there seems to be no expectation of the teachers correcting behavior in school and would rather have parents deal with supposed incidents with no context.

Leadership at SCES seem against having volunteers that would help teachers with kids who may need just a little extra help.
Posted: March 14, 2019
The school would rather work with the county on just passing children with learning differences so they do not have to provide the extra support needed.

I have been so pleased with this school. The teachers are all very caring and the staff cares so much about my kids as well. My children love their teachers and have made plenty of friends and really enjoy going to school.

This school works hard at this. However, being a former teacher and now a parent myself, I think this is really the job of the parent and I don't place all my hopes in the school to teach these character traits.

This school is the worst in Leesburg! really. There are few good teachers
but overall it is poorly run and not supportive of kids that need a little extra.

We love this school so much! My son has been at Sycolin for 2 years now and he loves it. He has an IEP and receives both speech and occupational therapy, his teacher and the assistant teachers are wonderful. They communicate very well especially if you ask them to communicate with you on a regular basis. The leadership is great and I highly recommend this school. The whole special education department is a blessing!

There is total lack of communication from either the Principal or teacher. Children are not allowed to be children - they would like them to be little robots to pass the SOL. Nor do they actually want parents in the school. So very sorry we were transferred to this horrible school.

Sycolin Creek is a wonderful school. All the teachers and the principal, Mr. Racino are great. They are very responsive and are always looking out for their students.

Sycolin Creek exhibits a feeling of community. The children are safe and happy. Many of the teachers have stayed even after a new principal joined the staff. If the teachers are happy at work you know your child will enjoy the school. All parents must remember the education provided to your children doesn't come from only the teachers, but 50% is the responsibility of the parent at home. Remember to be a parent by being involved in your school.

So far, so good! We have had good experiences with the teachers and the communication with parents is excellent! The school is nicely maintained and newer than some in LoCO. My only concern is that classroom sizes seem to be fairly large for the younger grades. My daughter had 27 in her 1st grade class at one point! Overall we feel at home with SCES.

If your child is not a perfect student and does not follow the teacher to the letter........RUN!!!!!! This school will let your child fall to the wayside! Only the cream of the crop will thrive here cause they are low maintenance.
