I am currently going to this school and honestly, it's an ok school. Some of the teachers are very nice and others aren't as nice. My current counselors and deans are very nice and understanding but the teachers I have can be scary. Most teachers just throw projects at us left and right and then don't tell us how to accomplish our goals. Teachers just continue to talk and now no one pays attention to what they are talking about. I think the kids at this school should be able to have their phones in the classroom because what if there is a lockdown or fire drill and we need to reach our parents? I think this school is great for kids with disabilities. Everyone is really kind to them and understanding. Some of the teachers yell at some students for no reason. Also, this school has a 5th lunch which is from 1:18-2:03. That should be illegal because by the time it's lunch my whole class is starving, getting light headed and can't focus on the lesson. We should be able to eat snacks without being yelled at. Also, this school is very supportive of lgbtq. However, my history teacher this one time said "We have all white people in here. Oh wait, we have two black people." Which I find racist. Also the history teacher shouldn't have said that because that made one of my friends feel bad and I am mixed and so are several other of my friends in that class. The teachers need to work on not assuming people's races, staying out of drama, and yelling at students for no reason. There's this thing called a gaggle that the teacher gets every single time a word comes up. But then the teachers read through all the drama and then come to you and try to help you which is not ok because it's your business and not theirs. There are some circumstances where that is ok but not when it's drama. Overall, I have made a lot of friends in this school and most of the teachers are very kind.

The school is great but there is one teacher sub who we have because our teacher is in surgery right now who took me out of the hall way and told me to reschedule all my appointments to B days because Spanish is the most important class I was out at first block because I had to meet my prescribing doctor because one of my medicines that is used to save my life (asthma) wasnt working well and we needed it fixed. I feel genuinely disgusted about him and a lot of other students share my sentiments. I am not in control of my schedule and even if I was my home life is none of his business. I feel ashamed when I have to walk into his class because I worry what he will do today. Another issue is that racism is rampant, not among the students but among the teachers. I am not saying all of them are it is just a weirdly larger amount are then there should or just be none at all in my opinion

Project based learning is really just the same amount of tests with stressful projects that ruin your grade

I've sent two of my children through Harmony, with one there now. One of them is autistic, and their SPED program with Ms. Bosse has been a real blessing for him. We moved to the area mostly for the school system, to support our autistic son, and the result has been wonderful to see. My other child does very well here as well. The Principle is firm and on top of things, the office staff are quite professional and efficient, with appropriate concern over security. (ID at the door, buzz in) There are really good extracurricular activities, particularly Chorus in our experience. The school went virtual when it was required to, and made the best of that situation, and is now back in person full time thankfully.

I am so disappointed in this school - the staff is not worried about teaching the kids they just want to brag that they are a project based learning school. All that means is the kids have a ton of projects to do all the time, not a lot of real teaching is going on at this school.

Posted: December 19, 2019
My child is not adjusting to all the projects that this school requires the kids to do in EVERY class so his grades are slipping. Not one teacher has reached out to me regarding his grades, they just pile more projects on.
Posted: December 19, 2019
My child says that when he asks questions the teachers get mad and yell at him, that does not show respect or compassion.
Posted: December 19, 2019
If a child can not keep up with all the projects and work they are not going to do well in this school. The teachers forgot that all children learn at different paces

I mostly agree with this. There is alot of homework in general and projects for different classes seem to be due at the same time. But they allow you to spend the Resource Block doing homework and some teachers let you work in class.

My sons teachers have been incredible. Good communication and willing to help before school with concepts hard to understand.
Posted: March 21, 2019
You do the best you can, as teachers and parents, to raise kids this age to be kind and respectful. Any time we have had an issue with another student, the teachers and leadership have been quick to help us resolve it.
Posted: March 21, 2019
I find all Principal and all of the Deans to be very responsive and quick to assist. They want their kids to succeed, yet not be completely stressed out.
Posted: March 21, 2019
I am neutral on this because I have no knowledge in this area.
Posted: March 21, 2019
We have had bullying issues and leadership was very reasonable with watching out for situations that may arise. They did not escalate things quickly. Calm in resolving problems and in talking with the students.

I love this school. My son is in 6th grade and they have really helped him adjust. The school counselors are great, the nurse is wonderful. Everyone I have come across has been caring, enthusiastic with teaching and sharing experiences, and willing to work with us to help our son succeed.

Teachers, administration, the entire school care about their students. Thorough;y get to know them. They are all so compassionate and grateful when parents volunteer their time as well. So refreshing!
Posted: June 22, 2018
They have wonderful projects that give kids the opportunity to think on their own and accomplish things with the help of the teachers but its on the student alone. They get to see what they are capable of and how their ideas impact the community.

We couldn't be happier with this school. Just wish my other two would have had the opportunity to go here as well. It makes my daughter feel so good how the the teachers, counselors, administration, principal all know her. They know her name, her likes and dislikes, her passion, her personality. They actually get to know the individual child which makes learning and teaching an amazing experience.

Overall, consider talking to your staff about respecting parents as well as their own students. They are not above anyone.

House B Staff are rude to the parents of the children, especially if the parents is of color.
Posted: May 30, 2018
They do not advertise the act of respectfulness to others & adults. Staff is also disrespectful to anyone other than their own staff.

Both of my kids were significantly injured during gym class. No structure, its more like recess and survival of the fittest with kids running wild!
Posted: January 24, 2018
If I could do it all over again my child would never have gone here & next year I'm going to see about the other middle school or even homeschooling. This school is so damaging that everyone there should be replaced with someone who knows how to do their job because at that school the only experience you will receive is a BAD one!
Posted: January 24, 2018
The amount is ridiculous and the teachers all making projects due at the same time is wrong. Even if your child is in honors classes burdening a child so much is wrong
Posted: January 24, 2018
7th grade English teacher constantly bullies his female students & threatens them daily including telling a female student he would rip her ponytail off or tell her how easily he could cut her hair off
Posted: January 24, 2018
With how bad the administration is I can only imagine how horrible the kids will turn out. Bullying- fine with administration, compassion- there is none, refuse to help those with special needs & if you ask guidance to help with bullying it just makes it worse!
Posted: January 24, 2018
They love to make school for those with learning differences so intolerable that as a parent you feel like you need to homeschool or pull them out & take them to a different school!

best school nice teachers no bullying my son loves that school there principal is the best in London county

The teachers are rude and the school does nothing about bullying. My granddaughter comes home every day crying from boys making fun of her. I am very disappointed in this school, I sent her here since we moved it was a big mistake I am making her go to blue ridge now.

Harmony has been a middle school for just three years. They earned School to Watch the first year they were eligible. The Principal is awesome. Knows each of his students by name. Inspires the best in his teachers and staff. Encourages and consistently supports parental involvement.

The teachers are enthusiastic and dedicated. My daughter looks forward to going to school each day. Excellent facilities with a community that really cares about students and family.
